gone. welcome to mornings on 2. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it is friday, february 10th. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked an overnight fire at a lumber store just before 3:00 this morning at rafael lumber and building supplies. paul chambers is live with how firefighters were able to get the flames under control. >> reporter: good morning, tori. within the past hour, the crews have actually left the scene. as you can see, they have turned it over to the people that work inside the building. they are cleaning up the inside and outside. they had to go in through the front door but you can see they are now cleaning things up. it took about 35 firefighters to fight the flame. then the flames were leaping 30 to 40 feet in the air when they arrived. crews were able to get this under control within an hour.

there's paint and lumber inside the building, highly flammable pees of equipment. investigators say things could have been much worse. >> it was quite a bit of lumber and storage on the outside of the building. we're not sure how it started. about 35 firefighters are here knocking this down. they are starting to investigate the fire. >> i thought it was a lot worse because the whole roof was smoking. but it was just smoke. it was a small rear corner of the building, lit plastic on fire and that was it. >> reporter: the fire was quickly knocked down thanks to the accommodation of the interior sprinkler system and firefighters working together. there's mainly smoke and water damage to the main for the of building. no firefighters were injured at that time. things are moving to an investigation and they expect to have fire investigators out here later this morning.

morning, no prostitution allowed, the oakland police department frequently patrols this property. we found these at both motels. the city says that's not enough and they are going to go to court and try to get this shut down for at least a year. >> are you an owner here? >> reporter: we tried to talk to the woman behind the desk this morning. she turned around when she saw we were with ktvu and went behind a closed door. a man leave to go hotel claimed he was visiting a friend and didn't know anything about the problem. another gentleman told me that up until about a year ago he used prostitutes frequently an says he still recognizes the girls he used to pay using this lodge. he doesn't think there's much the hotel can do about it. >> if they catch them, they call the cops. aye seen the cops in there before at least on several occasions. >> and you said the girls still use the hotel?

>> yeah. i drive by, see them coming out of there. >> and you know who they are? >> yeah. they're the one that is work here all the time. >> has the problem gotten better? do you think there was a problem? do you think this is working? >> reporter: we also paid a visit to the economy ilan nissim this morning. that employee says he thinks the problem is getting better. but the city says the economy inn has been a problem for years and last december both were sued under the california red light abatement act. so what happens this morning, they go to court dealing with the national lodge, trying@it shut down. next week they go to court against the economy inn.

year, reelecting president obama and regaining control of the house. it is 7:07. the plan to extend bart into livermore is moving forward despite a lack of funding for the project. yesterday the board of directors approved and engineering and ryership plan for the five-mile extension. it also agreed to form a partnership with livermore and local transit agencies to split the cost of the $1 billion project. the board is still considering alternatives to the extension, including express buses and diesel commuter trains. there was a new crash on the peninsula. what happened? >> there's a new crash southbound 280 as you drive to west bro boulevard. it's the avalon drive onramp. watch for traffic to start slowing down as you head down

to south city. a lot of people go that way to catch 380, then get over the 101. if you can get yourself on the freeway somehow after 380, you can use skyline maybe or get just past the accident. getting out of daily city is going to be tough. northbound 280 not affected yet but it could be. let's take a look at westbound highway 4 coming in from the bay point, not bad. slow traffic only highway 4. this morning we have a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, backed up for about 10 minutes, no major problems. we have sun breaking through the clouds. it will be a cooler day today, temperatures after yesterday sunny and warm, 60s an 70s, but not today. already light rain near santa rosa, then a quarter inch up in parts of lake county.

hospital in norwalk, california one week ago and there is still no sign of him. he was sent to the mental hospital after he was convicted of stalking and threatening madonna several years ago. he's also threatened halle berry and other stars. the piedmont man accused of shooting a federal customs agent will return to court this morning. the arraignment for robert bagwell will continue as it's reported he taught the victim's wife at a bay area school. now it's suggested he became obsessed with the wife and wanted an intimate relationship. time is now 7:18. san francisco's outside land festival is making a lot of money for the city. new report shows it brought in more than $60 million last year alone.

time now 7:30. students have set up several tents at uc berkeley and this is not the first time they have set up and encampment on campus. >> reporter: that's right, this is wail the three-month anniversary of the last time they were at this spot. interestingly, the dean of students came out here last night and told them to leave. they asked him to leave. he came back two hours later with police officers and told them they had to leave or they would be subject to arrest. this is on the three-month anniversary of the november 9th protest on the same area. yesterday about 20 students pitch add half dozen tents and students say they have allis of demands, mostly dealing with education. their number one priority is getting tuition lowered. >> we want the resignation of the chancellor because of the responsibility that he needs to take for the people, the students beat up on november

force by the oakland police. protesters held a forum last night at the grand theater. about 200 people were there. including members of oakland citizens review board. they also invited police to that forum but no one from the police department showed up. and police have arrestedden occupy supporter for violating his stay away order. joseph briones was issued that order after the january 28th protest. police say he returned to the plaza this week and was later arrested. 7:33. the chp is investigating whether or not alcohol was a factor in an overnight crash. a man was driving around 11:30 last night and swerved, overcorrected and went handoff the roadway. before the man crashed, other drivers had called 911 to report his car swerving on the road. he was the only person inside

the car. no word of his condition but the chp says his injuries are not life-threatening. officials are encouraging congress to restore pre-tax benefits to commuters, allowing employees to deduct money to pay for public transit like bart and muni. last year the amount was reduced by more than $100 per movant and pre-tax parking benefits rose. earlier this week a committee approved legislation to reverse the benefit cuts. it requires congressional approval to go into effect. 7:34. one man says nine deputies beat him up at the san francisco county jail. darrell hunter says he has the tape the prove it. the judge ordered the release of this grainy video taken at the jail a year ago. it shows a disturbance while deputies were booking hunter only charges of making threats:

other employees are now the subject of an investigation. police release add sketch of a man wanted in an attempted sexual assault on the stanford campus. he's described as latino, in his 20s, 5'11 with an average build. he was wearing a gray baseball cap, red flannel shirt and blue jeans. police say this man entered a female student's unlocked room on sunday, climbed into her bed as she was asleep. she woke up to the man trying to take her clothes off but she was able to get away. an arraignment is scheduled today for the san pablo man accused at shooting at people in front of an elementary school. police say 31-year-old christopher trinn fired several shots on tuesday and prompt add lockdown at riverside elementary school. police say they had trouble capturing him because he was

northbound 101 coming up on the 80 split, traffic looking good. let's go to steve. up north, we have mostly cloudy skies then light rain, partly sunny. this system coming in looks to be the first of many for a cooler pattern. our 10-day outlook is looking good for rain. this week a little system won't do much but will give us the leading edge of a cooler pattern. there's been light rain near lake county, couple reports coming in napa county as well. there's a little bit out there. south of that not much. this is the rain forecast and the computer model forecast. i think this is just the clouds and little bit of drizzle closer to the coast. towards san jose, fremont south, i think you'll have more sun here for a while, then turning partly cloudy.

then i think saturday morning we get very light drizzle, and saturday evening that's on the way out. it will still be on the cooler side. the cloud cover really just 46, 47, few areas little cooler there. for san francisco yesterday it was 66, lows 45 to 53. officially it's 51 right now. local drizzle, then cooler and breezy today with partly cloudy skies. mostly that's a low cloud deck, not much in the way of rain here. the next little system, they're not very big but may be setting the stage for what looks to be a change in the pattern that's long overdue. today breezy, westerly wind and easterly wind with more sun south and east. 50s for some, 60s for others. at noon we'll have updates on drizzle or low clouds increasing throughout the day.

counts, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. a biggic driver is in jail this morning, accused of a road rage incident on the bay bridge. the big rig driver threw a large metal object at a veterans affairs van as the two vehicles were crossing the bridge yesterday morning. that object shottered the van's windows but the van driver was not hurt. the driver thinks he was attacked because he refused to go over the speed limit. >> trucker comes around tailgating me, comes around, giving me the finger. i go around him and i heard a shot, loud sound, a my window shattered. >> the rig driver was arrested there shortly after the incident. john cordova is now facing

welcome back. a local teacher accused of abusing young special ed students and new developments now. >> eighty teachers are on leave while the district investigates how they handled abuse allegations against a special education teacher. we are at roosevelt elementary school this morning t. teacher who was accused is not a teacher at roosevelt. she's a special education teacher for rainbow preschool which uses the campus and classrooms. we caught up with roosevelt's

principal heading into school and she was very upset about the confusion. >> i have a great school and wonderful teachers. >> reporter: electa bogdus is accused of kicking, slapping and withholding food and drinks from 3 and 4-year-olds. the district says they only learned habit the allegations last week. she turned herself in after the incidents were reported by assistants in her classroom. the redwood city school district is investigating this case along with the san mateo district attorney. the accused teacher is due in court next month. 7:54. now let's check in with sal. >> we have a problem in south san francisco. that's the biggest problem

investors agreed to plead guilty to real estate fraud. the charge stem from the past few yore and prosecutors say the men conspired to pick a winning bidder during auctionings. new details about a shooting involving undercover police officer. police officers followed 48- year-old steven moore to castro valley as part of a drug investigation. investigators say two officers were trying to take him into custody when he pinned one of the officers between his car and the police officers' unmarked car. that's when another police officer shot moore. investigators say they found a half pound of cocaine in a house a couple blocks from where that shooting occur. cal tran is get to go word out about the planned closure to the upper deck of the bay bridge set to happen one week

in their health plans. instead, the obama administration would order health insurance companies to provide that for free at no cost to women who want that birth control contraceptive coverage. i'm sure there will be some republicans that will argue this is no different than what it is now. you're just going around technical using big government to order health insurance companies to do this. we'll hear from mr. obama in an hour and get all the details. for now, they are moving it away from religious institutions and saying to health insurance companies they have to provide this birth control coverage instead. >> just to make it clear, the catholic church itself is not required to offer birth control to their employees and also the original plan that was in the obama administration's health care is already in effect in california and over two dozen

other states. >> reporter: there are a number of states that require it but there are also varying exemptions in states. i know a number of states provide religious exemptions either for churches or for religious institutions as well. it's sort of a patch work that's out there. the controversy i think is for republicans, it fuses together a number of their hot button issues. one is the opposition to the obama health law. two is the sense that the government is ordering people to do things they may not want to, and three, the whole issue of religious freedom. this issue would get huge cheers from the crowds at republican campaign events. that's a big thing there. for democratic women, it's outrageous to deny women the coverage. we'll see about the middle of the road play announced by the

officers clashed with students using batons. students here hope this protest turns out differently. last night the dean came out and told protesters to leave. they told him to leave. two hours later he came back with police officers an told the state of the unions they needed to leave or they would be subject to arrest. they say they are basically developing this hand-off attitude. new this morning, livermore police are looking for whoever attacked a police officer this morning with rocks and concrete, sending that officer to the hospital. this happened before 2:00 a.m. this morning on north pea street near railroad avenue. that police officer stop today clear debris off the road and that's when three or four people attacked him with rocks and concrete from an overcrossing. some of the rocks used in the attack were about 14 inches long and that officer was hit

in the head. he's in the hospital now being treated for moderate injuries. it is 8:32. eight redwood city school district employees are on leave while the district investigates how they handled abuse allegations against a special education teacher from rainbow proo school. the school use it is campus and classrooms of roosevelt elementary school in redwood city. she's packed of slapping, kicking and withholding food an drink from 4-year-old children in her class. the alleged abuse happened between december and january. but the district says they only learned about the allegations last week. the district is now investigating whether employees followed proper procedure. one parented wanted to distance roosevelt from the controversy. >> i know the teachers here, they do a phenomenal job. this is a district wide issue,
