pam cook. >> let's check weather and traffic and let's first go to steve paulson who is right here. temperatures a lot of 30s out there some patchy fog as well, partly sunny skies and partly cloudy skies as well, diving south along the coast, highs upper 50s to near 60 degrees, here is sal. westbound bay traffic looks good coming into san francisco with no major problems and on the other side of the island heading over to the city, we are also looking at san francisco himself. it looks good in downtown, 6:01 let's go back to the desk. vallejo police are searching for two gunman after a terrifying shootout. five people including a three- year-old girl were hurt and it all happened on springs road near maple. tara moriarty joins us live

with all the investigations, good morning tara. i just finished cleaning up the blood that you see right behind me and it was his niece who will be three soon, she was struck by bullets in the knee and twice in the stomach and she just underwent surgery and is expected to survive. police described the shootout as a rolling gun battle. just after 7:00 last night -- 7:00 last night, he walked in and his target, a female customer. he shot her, left and returned to apparently finish the job. that is when the customer's male friend returned fire, the grandmother and two women and the child were shot. >> there was a lot of bullet holes in the glass and chairs annuals there is a lot of bullets and stuff in the walls.

>> reporter: investigators recovered dozens of shell- casings, now an innocent -- innocent people were caught in the crossfire. police did arrest the gunman and police are searching for two men gunmen and that initial gunman who walked up was not alone. we will show you a tool that police officers will be using in trying to crack this case. live in vallejo, tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. homicide investigation is underway in alameda this morning and it could be linked to a domestic dispute. christian captain has more from neighbors. >> reporter: police confirmed there was a homicide investigation underway in alameda. let's give you an idea, this is the intersection of walnut and

alameda and witnesses say it happened right there at that home. we are just across the street from alameda high school and in just the last 15 minutes, we spoke with a neighbor who heard gunshots yesterday evening and then a woman screaming. >> i heard, bang, bang, bang and i was just thinking kids were playing with fireworks. >> reporter: they reported this was a domestic violence shooting and when police arrived they found the woman dead and a man critically injured and that man was taken to an area hospital. last night alameda police tweeted saying there was an ongoing investigation and to make room for vehicles. this morning i did speak with the dispatcher with alameda

police and with a sergeant who confirmed this was a homicide investigation and they will tell me there will be more information they will be releasing and we will have that information at about 7:00 this morning. for now, christian captain, channel 3 news. two people safely escaped their burning apartment. it happened just before 12:30 at the intersection of 4th street. fires came from the bottom and spread to the attic. it took 35 minutes to put out that fire and the cause is still under investigation. 605, the 15-year-old accused of killing his parents, he will be in court for his arrangement. moses cayman killed his parents before hiding the bodies inn sued the -- inside the family car. as a result the 15-year-old is being charged as an adult.

the court hearing will be underway at 2:00 this afternoon. a crash killed a doctor last year and he is due in court today. wallace richardson is scheduled to be arraigned this morning. he is charged with vehicular man slaughter and he was driving a shuttle bus and collided with a big rig. 52-year-old kevin rack a passenger on that bus was killed. china's vice-president visits and he is set to become president next year. coming up, the biggest challenge for them, it will happen in southern california later this week. and president barack obama in southern california features an impressive lineup, the band just won five grammies and they

get back to unemployment. >> reporter: they are dismissing the call from rick santorum and other rivals but he said he rallied back every time. newt gingrich has won one contest so far and that was the south carolina contest last month. he is being charged in a terrible case of animal cruelty. he is accused of killing and eating cats. he has been capturing them and using them as food. police arrested him after getting some tips from suspicious neighbors. new this morning, a moderate earthquake, a few hours ago, 5.1 magnitude break happened/10l1thl0 a.m. right now there are no reports of any damage or injuries.

the south bay nightclub owner is charged with raping one of his patrons. she claims she was raped by [name redacted due to court finding of factual innocence]. his lawyer denies the allegations and he said the woman asked to be taken to the home after a night out at the nightclub which is owned by [name redacted due to court finding of factual innocence]. according to documents she woke up to find her clothing being pulled off and says she was raped. [name redacted due to court finding of factual innocence] plans to plead not guilty at his arrangement in thursday. facing charges on suspicious of driving a stolen bentley. phillip bentley also goes by the name filthy rich. he was pulled over by police and they routinely ran his

traffic in antioch stop-and-go traffic but i want to show you the area on highway 4 and it is getting slower in bay point. it is not stop and go like it is but if you are going to the bay bridge toll plaza, it is back up for a 5 to 10 minute delay, let's go to steve. okay, we have cold numbers, a lot of 30s, 38 degrees livermore has 36 degrees and fog. quarter of a mile visibility and most locations have a low cloud deck and we will have sunshine here and there is a fast mover which will come in later today. we have partly sunny skies by this evening. a little dancing and it seems to have intensified between 6:00 and 8:00, but so far livermore and napa airport had

. good morning, northbound traffic, still looking good, you can get a pretty decent start on the way to cupertino. and a san francisco woman is presenting her with a certificate of community story. remember, she was driving her daughter to school when she saw a tanker truck burst into flames after crashing on highway 101. williams stopped her car, ran over to the tanker, the driver was on the ground and she pulled him to safety, saving his life. today the city of belmont will honor a man who caught his pregnant wife as she jumped out of their second story apartment while she was pregnant.

this was the last year when she jumped to escape the burning building and was six months pregnant at the time. her husband was able to escape and he was in the parking lot to catch her. alyssa has since given birth to a baby boy. they are looking for whoever vandal iced now students will not be allowed in after several more weeks after windows were broken and the floor was flooded with thousands of gallons of water. investigators say it does not look like the work of kids. >> we are looking at possible disgruntled employee, maybe at the construction site or the project. >> they say it seems calculated and it is the second time in less than a month the school has been targeted. the school says it may take more than a million dollars in

damages to repair the school. a 6.7% drop this year is blamed on budget cuts. they are not able to offer as many classes so students who need certain classes are going elsewhere. and today is valentine's day but some people will not be celebrating. this country is affectively canceling valentine's day and instead they are being asked to celebrate a descend dan of gang gus conn. they should not be celebrating holidays that are alien to our culture. a small town remains at the center of the investigation and

is valentine's day, february 14th, i am dave clark. >> and i am pam cook. police are investigating a terrifying shootout at a strip mall. five people are hurt including a three-year-old girl. it happened on springs road near maple. tara moriarty has more information about the gunman who walked into the nail salon, tara? >> reporter: they believe that gunman did not act alone, he was with somebody else when the shootout began and they believe the duo had an intended target at this nail salon. now the violence erupted just after 7:00. they walked in with a gun, shot a woman and then returned to finish the job and that's when the girlfriend's friend

returned fire. the girl and the mother and the toddler were also shot and a woman next door described the panic they felt. >> i got on the floor to protect my baby, it just got louder and louder. >> reporter: the child was airlifted to a medical center. the girl was shot in the knee and twice in the stomach. she just underwent surgery and is expected to survive. they recovered dozens of shell casings. an innocent by stander was caught in the crossfire and injured. one of the gunmen were also shot, police are not sure which one. police are hoping surveillance video footage will provide them with more clues for exactly who did this. live in vallejo, tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news.

the chase ended right here, a crash on grayson street in berkeley at 2:00 a.m. this morning. the suspects backed a stolen honda into a police car and it caused some minor damage. nobody was hurt but investigators say the police tried pulling over the two women in oakland for a minor traffic offense. they used a spiked area to stop the car. homeowner is shot and -- homeowner shot and killed an armed includer who tried to break into his house. the homeowner was watching television with his seven-year- old child when somebody tried to kick in his front door. the homeowner grabbed the intruder's own gun, shot him three times. police are now questioning the

homeowners. and they are making the state the 7th in the world to mark same sex marriages legal. they are requiring the number of signatures to overturn the new law and if they do the law will be put on hold and wait for an outcome of a november vote. same sex couples will head to county services to request marriage licenses. this is video from last valentine's day in martinez. the request for marriage licenses will be denied because same sex in california is not legal. chihuahuas will soon be on their way to the east coast to find new homes. allie rasmus is live in san francisco where the dogs are

about to climb on board a plane, good morning allie rasmus. >> reporter: they checked in just like any other passenger and they are boarding a flight to new york city and that's all part of a puppy adoption. we were there as the chihuahuas were loaded up for their big trip. now the shelters have an over abundance and apparently they are in high demand for adoption in new york city. shelters in both cities have worked together to bring the chihuahuas to the east coast. they went through a back door security line and they each have somebody traveling with them and they get to fly in the main cabin of the plane. they provide seats for the volunteers for free and they are on a flight to new york so there are some other

unsuspecting passengers on board. >> most passengers are excited and the dogs are incredibly behaved. of course we have medication if they are not calming down but we have not had to use that. they seemed to calm down as soon as they took off and they react better than most babies. i'm sure they enjoy it. >> reporter: now the first flight departs at 7:00 and a second group of chihuahuas will leave at 9:00. the shelter in new york are coordinating and they are keeping in close contact with animal care here and they will let the shelter know here as soon as they get adopted. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. well this morning, the search continues at an abandoned well in san joaquin

valley where a serial killer has admitted to dumping victims in an abandoned well. here is the latest on the search. >> reporter: 300 bone fragments have been found in this well and we are told it is very likely this search will expand and this comes after convicted killer westerly sherman wrote a note to leonard saying there were other fragments in another well and in the last few days they continued digging and crews were 35 feet down when they found the first fragments. now they are 45 feet down and yesterday rain did in fact slow down the dig. they stopped digging deeper however they simply quit looking for anything they could find. back here we want to give you an idea in relation to this

. good morning, here is a quick look at some of the top stories, this morning vallejo police are searching for two gunmen after a terrifying shootout at a strip mall. five people were hurt including a two-year-old girl. the child is listed in critical but stable condition. a search for more human remains, they have been looking in an a dan bond -- abandoned well. he admitted to dumping the victims in an abandoned well with the help of a childhood friend. he is set to become china next year. a deadly meeting in a

normally quiet alameda town, police tell us one person was killed in what we learned might be a possible domestic violence dispute. joining us from alameda with new information about the victim, christian? >> reporter: we got that information literally within the last two or three minutes and alameda police confirm a 30- year-old was a victim. the incident we are hearing happened right in that house and neighbors are telling us they heard a number of gunshots at about 6:30 and then a woman screaming. >> i heard firecrackers and then there was a pause and then there was more bangs so i thought kids were using fireworks. >> reporter: now from alameda police, i am reading it from my e-mail again they are

confirming an alameda woman and 36-year-old man was involved in the shooting and the woman was found here at the scene and despite life saving efforts according to alameda police and fire the woman died at the scene and the man was taken to an area hospital and he died at 1:44. the investigation so far seems to be indicating the oakland man was the gunman and he died from a self inflicted gunshot wound and again this is new information we are just now receiving which appears to be a domestic violence case and it appears to be a murder/suicide that happened here. the victim again, a 30-year-old woman and the gunman a 36-year- old man from oakland. we will bring you the latest details including the identities of the people involved. happening right now in washington, defense secretary leon panetta is appearing at a
