-- we'll give you the new time line for the 49er stadium. well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's wednesday, february 15th. investigators have now unearthed 1,000 bones at grave sites in calaveras and san joaquin valleys. in just a few hours, we'll learn more about this horrifying serial killer case. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us from near the town of lyndon and what's happening? >> reporter: we've seen excavation trucks go up and down the road. the grove of trees over there, that's where the dig site. we spoke to a private investigator who says he believes he can match faces to some of the names. he stafermed to look -- he started to do this after two other women were found, found in another county and

positively identified yesterday. they've found so far 1,000 bones. about 0 miles outside of stock ton, sheriff's deputies have unearthed purses, shoes, jewelry -- stockton -- about 20 miles outside of stockton sheriff's deputies have unarkted purses, shoes -- unearthed, purses and shoes. this is the serial killer, wesley shermantine. he and his childhood friend are believed to have killed more than 20 or more people in the '90s and '80s. herzog committed suicide month. >> not to get family's hopes up, but i do think they are on

planning a meeting. the final straw was monday night's fatal shooting. the city wants more programs and wants to rework the budget to hire more police officers no. date for the town hall meeting has opinion set but the mayor wants to have it as soon as possible. vallejo police are investigating that city's first fatal shooting of the year. 23-year-old daniel le sean stevens was shot several times. a friend had already taken him to the hospital. steven later died from his injuries. so far, no arrests have been made. >> construction. proposed new 49er stadium could start in july. by a 5-1 vote, the city council just approved building counts last night. christien kafton is live with when the 49ers could start playing football in their new

home. >> reporter: good morning. activity is starting to pick up here at the construction site. if you take a look at the -- across the street, there's also construction going on there at the headquarters. in the last couple of minutes we spoke to an individual. we're trying to arrange for -- for that interview for you. santa clara's council voted last night to approve the $878 million contract clearing the way for construction to begin in july. that's six months earlier. that could mean the 49ers would own -- would play one, maybe two more seasons. the stadium had a blackout against an appearance against the steelers. we have new video.

the jail cells and the inmates were trapped. you are looking at new video right here, just got this in. family members waiting to hear if if their loved ones -- if their loved ones survived. firefighters couldn't find the keys to open up the jail cells to save those prisoners. authorities announced they caught a third iranian suspect involved in a series of explosions in thailand. the botched explosions actually blew up this house in bangkok. the bomb squad found and defused two other bombs. police were able to capture two iranians after two of the bombs went off prematurely. one of them actually blew off the deg -- but off the legs of a man. the u.s. and europe, we're

hearing, are considering precedent punishment for iran. they want to stop iran from building nuclear weapons. the latest sanction would vancouver the -- that would involve the possibility of gas prices going up. >> reporter: republicans had wanted big cuts to federal programs to pay for the tax holiday but in the flurry of last-minute negotiations and with the tax cuts expiring, gop negotiators agreed to okay a deal to extend the tax breaks through next year without spending cuts. the white house says it's been kwon fusing to work with them.

. the investigation into whitney houston's death is now focused on the prescription drugs found in her hotel room. the "l.a. times" reports subpoenas will be served on the doctors where whitney houston got the prescriptions. they say the amount of drugs did not seem unusually large. investigators will be looking at whether the drugs were dispensed properly and whether houston was receiving too many prescriptions. and a memorial honoring whitney houston is growing outside the new hope baptist church in new jersey. her funeral will be held there at the funeral this week. no plans for a public memorial. let's go to sal. how is it looking out there,

sal? >> well, the livermore valley traffic is very slow coming up on 580. we had -- we had an earlier crash. there's still some activity on the shoulder. but the damage is done. very slow traffic getting over to livermore. if you drive from dublin to castro valley, not all that bad, 880 is slow. but it gets better in union city and fremont. and santa clara valley, 101, the sign of the accident on the shoulder. 85 is already slow. north of 87 up to saratoga. but at least we don't have anything unusual there. >> let's go to some live picks. that still looks good driving past the coliseum. and the morning drive at the toll plaza is very slow. we had an earlier crash on the bridge. i'm checking to see if there's

. 7:30. will the bay bridge shut down this weekend as planned? well, that all depends on the weather and if the rain is coming. ktvu's claudine wong joins us live from the bay bridge to tell us what's planned and what could change. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we do expect an announcement

sometime today whether the planned closure will go on as schedule. right now crews are acting as if it's a go. we've moved from the original location because they want to get some big rigs in there that will help them define the new path that will be taken. down the road there's also striping that gives us indication of where the new roadway will be once everything reopens. they want to shut it down friday night and reopen it tuesday morning. to finish the striping, the road needs to be dry for six or seven hours, and there is rain in the forecast. so that has caltrans warning everybody, if it's too wet the closure may have to be delayed to another weekend. one commuter said he would like to get it over with. >> i'm a commuter. i chose to move up to fairfield.

i love where i live and i will just do what i have to do to get here safely and on time. >> ready to use the new bridge? >> exact -- yes, definitely. >> reporter: so what exactly will caltrans be doing this weekend? this is an animation of the work. now, the detour is going to give crews a chance to work between the existing bridge and the new bridge and get the eastbound lanes done. right now, caltrans says, look, if we get in done this weekend or the next couple of weekends, the new bridge will completely open six months faster. that opening is now set for labor day of next year. back out here live, the only problems are high winds. actually, you know, in projects past, the wind is not an issue because they've been on high

cranes. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. the highway patrol is investigating an accident near the san leandro/hayward border involving a car and a big rig early this morning. it happened just after 2:30 on southbound 238 right by the 880 junction. the driver of the car tells us he swerved into the side of a big rig to try to avoid another accident. the car sustained major damage on the passenger side but neither driver was seriously injured. 7:33. at 10:00 this morning, investigators will reveal new information about those raids that have been tied to two serial killers. 1,000 bones have been unearthed. they include the remains of 16- year-old chevy wheeler. the teenager disappeared in 1985 after running off wesley

shermantine, the convicted killer who led authorities to those human remains. now, coming up at the top of the hour, we'll get an update from tara moriarty in san joaquin county. in about 90 minutes, joseph naso is due back in a marin county courtroom. a judge may decide whether the 78-year-old murder suspect can continue to act -- to act as his lawyer -- as his own lawyer. investigators think naso may be responsible for at least two other homicides. alameda county's chief probation officer has been placed on leave following allegations of sexual assault and harassment. he calls the charges completely false. the victim filed a claim

seeking $1.5 million in damages. the attorney general's office is handling the case. nadia locker has entered rehab for a substance abuse problem. he's the wife of bill lockyer. she says she was violently assault by an ex-boyfriend. lockyer says she's in repack to heal from that attack and to treat chemical pen dency and chronic pain from a car accident in the past. >> to address this straight on and openly, i applaud her. i think she's doing the right thing. >> lockyer says in a statement "alcoholism and addictions are diseases from which many of us suffer and un-- unfortunately i've not been spared." the city of san bruno will

be holding a news conference today. it's about restitutions gauching as for the 2010 disaster. that ex-- negotiations for the 2010 disaster. san francisco is filing a lawsuit in connection with the pipeline disaster. coming up in 15 minutes what the city is accusing federal regulators of doing that may, according to their thinking, have led up to the san bruno disaster. bay area drivers may be paying close to $5 a gallon for gas by the time summer starts. that is the gas price forecast from aaa. right now the damage price in san francisco is $3.93 for a gallon of regular. in oakland and in san jose, rit 3.87 -- it's 3.87.
