announced the talks have broken off. those talks include the deadly resolution, negotiations regarding that accident last year. christien kafton has more. >> reporter: the mayor toll us that the talks had sold out e was very upset. there were even reports that pg&e had walked out of negotiation. >> the reason we're here today is the pg&e is stalling negotiations to settle millions of dollars of restitution to the san bruno community. we're calling upon pg&e to immediately return to bargain in good faith with the city of san bruno. >> reporter: the city says the talks stalled out in the last few weeks but the maybor would not elaborate on what the sticking points are. pg&e has already agreed to pay

$70 million to pay for infrastructure damage following the explosion. the talks the city is talking about today amount to punitive costs that the city would plan to use for other projects. the city says the last time they talked with pg&e was last monday. one of the negotiators, greg, told us today he was surprised by the news conference saying pg&e never broke off negotiations. >> we have not. we're continuing the gauch-- negotiations, met with them last week. >> reporter: now, again, in the news conference, the mayor did say his office received a call from pg&e at about 10:45. that was just 15 minutes before the news conference. we're hearing from pg&e that the city and the utility company will be meeting again to negotiate as early as this friday. now, my colleague, tom vacar, is continuing to work on this story and will bring you the latest developments on this he

that everyone was safely evacuated, including 2 1/2-year- old twins but they say half of the home was scorched by fire. red cross is helping the family with housing. no word on what started the fire. more than 300 prison inmates are presumed dead in honduras after a fire that left them trapped in their cells. the fire swept through the old and dilapidated structure this morning. 475 people escaped. prison authorities say they couldn't find the key of many of the inmates. we have just learned the fire was started by an inmate. the u.s. state department has criticized honduras for harsh, human conditions. the investigation into whitney houston's death is now focused on the prescription drugs found in her hotel room. the l.a. times reports that subpoenas will be sent to those doctors

a narrowly approved new ban for smoking in mountain view will did into effect in may, 5 feet within windows and doors at any workplace as well as patios. business owners lined up on both sides of the argument. city leaders say the ban will mostly affect castro street in downtown mountain view and add only those walking down the street who do not stop anywhere will be allowed to smoke. a group called save mt. diablo is inviting hikers to check out its latest purchase. the group just bought a six- acre property next to mt. diablo that contains a mini volcano. the hike will take place on saturday february 25th at 10:00 a.m. the group brought its first volcanic dome last year. when we come back, a prediction about gasoline prices that you will not like. and a clash of titans.
