international airport. a small crowd gathered earlier today hoping to catch a glimpse of him. his series of high dollar fundraisers today is expected to generate $3 million. >> i wish if it was the government that funded the elections and there was a set limit. >> reporter: university of california at berkeley professor. >> politicians like president obama are scared right now that the republicans will raise lots of money with super backs and the democrats will be left behind. the president said he was against super packs but recently he switched positions. >> they can raise enormous sums of money. the republicans are ahead of the democrats right now in raising money and president obama says, given at we got a supreme court decision that says it is okay, i got to be on

the president's visit, including a slide show. hundreds of students were turned away today when the state department shut down a bay area medical school. ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar is live where students were left high and dry today. tom? >> reporter: students got an education today but it is not the one they paid for. >> reporter: the state shut the school in san jose. >> stuff like this shouldn't happen. saved coming here for a reason too, get a education. >> they are playing with a lot of people's money. it is not just mine. >> reporter: she was laid off. they helped him get into the school preceive unemployment checks while attending -- and received it'll checks while attending -- unemployment

contact with school officials. consumer editor tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. investigators are winding down their search for human remains linked to the "speed freak killers." they have unearthed more than a thousand bone fragments. it is believed that is where wesley shermantine and loren herzog left their victims. tomorrow the investigation moves to a second well east of the original dig site where more remains might be located. >> we are trying to coordinate this, we will bring the dogs in, they help us pinpoint the area. >> the dogs are on loan. a former san jose police officer is back on the forg, the same week he helped catch three bank robbers. on tuesday he pulled over into a wells fargo parking lot when he saw three men ronning into

the bank. he -- running into the bank. he followed them after they left and gave investigators the information to arrest them. >> lucky enough to pass that information on to the unit who did a great job following up. >> he left the san jose police department in july after receiving a layoff notice. later he found out he would have been spared so he applied to come back. police hope a photo will help them catch a bank robber. he held up a bank of the west branch at 10:00 a.m. this morning. he got away with some money. he was last seen in a brown toyota sedan. the family of a teen who committed suicide is planning a benefit in her honor.

such a rowdy element. >> reporter: weekends have seen fights, including brawls in the streets. >> not a plent thing to enjoy yourself and then cop cars are coming by. you have to walk around people who are fighting. >> reporter: they are trying to crack down on problem bars. concerned about their livelihood, owners had their attorneys draft a letter saying legal action may be necessary. >> they have the fear it could lead to dramatically restricted regulations, which may curtail their business. >> i don't know how you could threaten litigation and main tail we want it work with you. >> reporter: it is aimed only at problem establishments. >> it will allow the city, when the circumstances warranted, based upon an individual bar to take action against the hours the bar has to operate.

>> reporter: all the owners we talked to say they are concerned about being targeted for what they say. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. scientists are looking into two minor earthquakes that hit on a fault in the east bay. the 3.5 earthquakes hit within 15 hours of each other. they were felt as far away as berkeley. they were on the franklin fault, which is flanked by the hayward and concord green valley faults. >> it is a smaller fault, possible that it could have an earthquake with another fault. a fault that could use more investigation. >> the earthquakes did not cause injuries or damage. a group of san jose state students are trying to boost the city's minimum wage. they are collecting signatures to get a initiative on the balt. it would raise from $8 to $10

family damaged the historical kelley house in san jose. it was reported this morning by an employee. the design of the 100-year-old building forced crews to fight the fire from the outside. >> i saw it from 101. i was coming into work and i saw smoke. >> the head of the family was mayor of san jose in the 1800s. officials are not sure if they could salvage the house. no one was hurt. investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire. billboard went up before the sheriff who inspired it is set to go on trial. they unveiled this billboard today. ross mirkarimi has been charged with three misdemeanor

accounts. he called it a private family matter but the group says domestic violence is never a private matter. ross mirkarimi plead not guilty and his wife insists there was no abuse. 26 hours away from the closure of the upper deck of the bay bridge. a live look at the bridge where crews are getting ready. crews will shut down the upper deck at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night, rain or shine. ktvu's jade hernandez is live where she tried to figure out the easiest way to get around the construction. >> reporter: that is right. worried about how long it will take you to get into san francisco? we are live at the bart station and we decided to time it out for you. this bart rider missed the signs indicating a closure. >> reporter: do you have plans? >> not this weekend.

we continued on to 580 and to the bridge. all the while clocking our progress. driving from oakland into the marina on a thursday without traffic. this trip, 40 minutes. but there is no guarantee this weekend. for those stip opting to drive from oaklands in the opposite direction, and past hayward, the trip across the bridge, fell under an hour. bart is posting signs to make sure riders know 14 stations will be open all night long on saturday and sunday. keep in mind, check the website. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. the business relationship between the united states and china was discussed today in sacramento. it focused on california growing its economy by exporting to china. >> quality. to the extent we have quality

products, that bodes well for jobs in california. >> products made here cost more since california has higher labor standards and stricter environmental regulations than china. she thinks quality will entice chinese consumers. today's conference coincide with the viz of the chinese vice president. he arrived in los angeles today after spending time in iowa. he took a tour through part of los angeles today. 60% of the imports come from china. that equaled $120 billion. new figures show the jobless rate fell. applications for unemployment benefits dropped by 13,000. it was the fourth drop in five weeks. 243,000 jobs were added last month. twitter is about to make it easier for businesses to buy
