here is the story. >> reporter: saturday night as police were dealing with a march and occupying encampment. they got a call from pitchers and catchers on their nonemergency line. he said there was a tress passer in his driveway. sources said police only were dispatching officers to high priority calls because of the protests. one officer asked if he could somebody and was told no. minutes later pitchers and catchers' wife called 911 yelling for help. saying she saw the tress passer drag her husband. police arrived but pitchers and catchers was pronounced dead that hospital. >> shocking event. >> reporter: the parents of the man under arrest, daniel jordan dewitt are heartbroken. >> our hearts go out to the

family of the victim. and really sad. i pray everything is okay with hem. >> reporter: they say their son was a model child till he was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic when he was 18 and the system failed him. >> our system is such that you go in, they shove them with all kinds of drugs and put them on the streets again. >> reporter: she saw her son the day before but there was no indication he was violent. >> people need to be mandated to take meds before they get to this point. >> reporter: this statement does not differ from those facts. it confirms the story we just told you. we will say, however, that police say they are continuish their investigation -- continuing their investigation, not into their response but into the criminal investigation. reporting live, rita williams, ktvu channel 2 news.

police released new details about an officer involved shooting last night. plice say anaudia police say an officer responded -- police say an officer reported to a robbery. his injuries are thought to be not life threatening. the second suspect is still at large. the search for human remains has stopped and that is leaving families in lib bow. crews un-- limbo. crews unearthed a thousand bones by the killers wesley shermantine and loren herzog. she says the wait for answers is grueling. >> it is like a roller coaster ride. when i found out they are going to start digging i got my hopes

up. >> authorities say there may be more remains in another well. but it is unclear when or if they will be searched. third marine is set to face trial for the hazing of a fellow marine. he killed himself while serving in afghanistan. ktvu's robert handa spoke to the family about what they call a disappointing search for justice. >> reporter: here at the memorial, he is honored but now his name is connected to a case where many say justice is at stake. [ singing ] >> reporter: when he was a performer in high school, friends and family say they never could have pictured him in a military controversy. three marines are charged with hazing him. >> one reason he wanted to join

the military, he wanted to give back to the country that he was born in. >> reporter: his family is angry the three marines are abused of -- accused of abruising him. -- abusing him. >> we don't think justice has been served. what is hard is to ball three see what is the best outcome from this. and that is that the military changes its attitude towards hazing. >> reporter: a 19-year-old soldier committed suicide in afghanistan in october after hazing. eight soldiers may face charges. >> the fact that that case is progressing faster, is a reflection on the military paying closer attention because of this case.

closed. residents couldn't leave or come back. >> as long as it remains peaceful i have no problem with people being here. >> reporter: among those here were the three american hikers held in an iranian prison. >> i am here to speak outagainst solitary confinement. >> reporter: officials told us they deny prisoners are treated inhumanely. many here mentioned the hunger strike last year over conditions they called torchious and they say there are too many nonviolent felons locked up. >> looking at all of the thousands of folks that ain't got an act of violence. >> a lot of injustice going on.

>> reporter: protesters urged people to contact governor jerry brown's office demanding reform. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. we are getting word of breaking news in san jose where police are looking for an armed robbery suspect. police aren't saying too much but we have news chopper two on the way. what we are learning is the suspect is a 16-year-old. police spotted him near the southwest expressway. he took off and police took off after him. as we get more information we will bring it to you. police searching for an armed robbery suspect, a teenager in san jose. one of two men who robbed and sexual assaulted a woman last fall was booked today into jail. police arrested him in oakland last friday. he is suspected of attacking a woman. police say he is also a suspect

abscab with a family crashed today leaving one dead. authorities say no one was wearing a seatbelt. it happened on highway 101 in san jose. two people were hospitalized. a officer says the family was returning from mexico. a doctor caught in a sting operation pleaded guilty. he received 5 years probation for insurance fraud and improperly writing prescriptions. the district attorney says he was the subject of a two month sting in 2008. he gave pain killers to dea agents. police are looking for vandals to damaged eight homes and a school over the weekend. whoever is responsible used rocks to smash windows and
