heating pad to keep a pair of turtles warm. it was actually kept outside near that garage and it lifts up hey. they -- hay. turtles that were kept in the pen were able to escape into the backyard. we were told one of the animals had gotten burned but it turns out it did not. >> inside they are called hog pads, they are for farm animals to lay on. >> the turtles moved quickly to get out of the fire. >> now one firefighter did suffer overheating and exhaustion and was transported to the hospitalment he is expected to be okay.

nobody else was injured in the fire. six crews responded and we were able to knock out the fire in a couple of minutes. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. a new twist in the ongoing investigation into the central valleys speed freak killers. and allie rasmus is in san joaquin valley county with a confession we are just learning about. >> reporter: one of the speed frees have been found. according to a documentty hundred -- according to a bounty hunter, he says it is a mile away from the original well and the original dig site. now convicted murderer wesley howard shermantine told the bounty hunter in a conversation on sunday, wesley howard shermantine and loren joseph herzog are suspected of killing

as many as 20 people and many of the victims have not been found. in the past couple of weeks, they have already found more than 1,000 bone fragments and other human remains in the first well that was searched. they spoke with k tv u. the remains of their daughter were found and the family says this is now a time for mixed emotions for them. >> you think about it every day, a day does not go by without thinking about it. >> you look, you wait, you know you wait for somebody to walk in that door and maybe it will be our daughter. >> reporter: now the search for victim remains at that first well is now over and that's where critics fine them. they could start digging but we

worst fundraising yet. newt gingrich raised 5.5 million and rick santorum 12 million their best. rand paul brought in slightly less and the new super political action committees collected more for two candidates than their campaigns raised. newt gingrich raised most, a whopping $11 million from one couple and mitt romney raised $7 million and that money fueled the ad wars we saw in the key primary states. and a look at who is raising more in my next update, allison burns ktvu channel 2 morning news. newt gingrich will be here in the bay area this weekend and he will deliver a luncheon address on sunday at the republican party. newt gingrich is the only one

of the presidential candidates which by the way begins on friday. russia may be shifting positions on syria. earlier they vetoed a un resolution to stop the bloody crackdown on antigovernment protesters but russia announced the united nations should send help to help out with thousands who are waiting on long lines just to get bread and food. president barack obama spoke with ahmed wali karzai about rereconciliation efforts aboutel taliban. now the two spoke about ahmed wali karzai's summit in pakistan with pakistan's president and iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad. ahmed wali karzai said he is reaching out to all sides to try and negotiate a peaceful end to the war in his country. >> back here at home, there will be a court hearing for a

former los angeles teacher committing lewd acts against school children. he taught 30 years before being arrested. he is accused of abusing two dozen children. he is charged with groping two students and they have now replaced the entire staff at the school while the investigation continues. the family of a young san joaquin valley victim is celebrating her birthday. the second annual tracy celebrates children event take place march 8th. it will include a magic show. melissa huckabee killed sandra back in 2009 and she is now in jail spending life without

parole. other people were trapped in the wreckage and one man was taken to the hospital. almost a year after floodwaters devastated capitoa, several lawsuits are pending against the city and this is what it looked like last year. a drainage pipe ruptured flooding homes in capitoa village. they claimed they improperly took care of underground pipes. one homeowner is suing for 130,000 dollars. time now, let's check in with sal. are you helping folks at the toll plaza? >> yes, i am also trying to get information that will be delayed from 8:00 to noon and it could affect them as far away as denver. if you have to turn around and come back out you could be

delayed. traffic is going to be moving along well but you could tell there is a lot more traffic on highway 4 including antioch and bay point. and it looks okay at the toll plaza, there is a little bit more of a delay certainly more of a delay than yesterday. there could be a crash right at 280 and we will find out more about this crash and have it for you next time. let's go to steve. a few high clouds are over us and some fog be low. we have fog thick in spots but it is a weak system coming by and it is flying fast. we are on the tail end and you can see it thins out rapidly. a few high clouds, once we get that to burn off, it is cloudy most of the day and it should be kicked out most of the day. low 60s and today we will go upper 60s and lower 70s so

warmer weather kicks in, 40s and 50s in mountain view and fairfield, a lot of fog for most locations, some of that is fog and all rain stays way to the north, what is going on with that pattern, it looks like it will be there saturday or monday and the next hint will be not until then. temperatures are coming up a little bit. upper 60s and as we leave, it is not too bad out. if you are in the sun not too bad but warmer weather will carry us into wednesday. a little bit of a cool down saturday and it is more pronounced as we go from sunday to monday, pam? the american customer satisfaction index shows shoppers spent more than $194 billion online in 2011. amazon remains the top online

final design stages. and the transfer organization says everything is on track for a delivery date of 2013 and 12 cars have been ordered at a cost that will be paid for by the transit company. police in livermore now have a clue in the recent rock attacks that one says could have been fatal for her family. now on saturday, loren who didn't want to give her name saw a hole in the door of her daughter's nursery. it punched a hole into a wall across the hallway. since then she has reranked her -- rearranged her daughter's furniture and said if her daughter had not been at her grandparent's house the results could have been fatal. this is a surveillance video

from another of the homes that were attacked. police believe this could be involved in the van limb. extra patrols are -- vandalism. at patrols are being placed in the area. they will appear in court for a preliminary hearing. as we first told you in december, they are accused of taking prescribes from restaurant employees, both men have pled not guilty and if convicted, they face eight to nine years in prison. this summer, the hamburger meat you eat may be used from left over slaughter houses. he nurtures them to produce trips and they are layered

ktvu channel 2 morning news, it is a tuesday, february 21st, i am dave clark. >> time now 6:30. overnight news, firefighter is being treated for heat exhaustion after fighting an early morning fire which appears to be tied to animals kept in a garage. tara moriarty is out there now, what do you know tara? >> reporter: we spoke to the italian police chief. he said a heater was used to keep a pair of turtles warm. the fire broke outside of a garage located off almond road. the fire quickly spread to the building and the turtles that were kept in a wooden pen were able to escape out to the backyard.

it turns out the cord which led from the house to the heating pad malfunctioned and started some hay on fire and spread to the inside barn structure and spread to the outside barn structure. >> reporter: that barn structure is actually the garage we are talking about and it is detached from the home. one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion. he halled equipment along distance and he is expected to be okay. six crews responded and they were able to knock out the fire in a couple of minutes. the estimated damages are about $50,000. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 morning news. and reports this morning, ambulance company was threatening to shut down its services if employees do not take a pay cut. they have 170 employees and the company wants them to take a 2

5% pay cut and agree to drop some of their benefits. workers are saying if they don't they plan to walk away from their contracts as early as april 1st. they have not commented as of yet. a search for human remains could be expanding thanks to some new information. ktvu channel 2 morning news, coming up at 6:45 allie rasmus will tell us about the new admission made by a san quentin inmate and new reaction from the parents of one of his victims. and this morning a key witness returns to the stand after the suspected killer of a gang member. edwin ramos is suspected of killing tony balogna and his sons michael and matthew bologna. he mistook them for being rival gang members and the shooting was in retaliation of a

shooting from earlier that day. he is denying claims he had been trying to leave the gang life to spend more time with his wife and baby. the police department is responding its defense over a deadly attack in berkeley hills. a mentally ill man beat a homeowner to death right outside his home. the response by police was too little too late but police say the call did not indicate it was a life or death emergency. only a few officers were available because of an occupied protest. >> the fact that there was an event going on with the occupied people and we could still not get somebody to respond here ended tragically and i think there is a statement -- i think that is a statement of where our resources are going and priorities. >> reporter: he lived in the

berkeley hills home with his wife and the accused killer is daniel jordan death. they are offering sympathies and they say -- due which the. they feel the mental health system failed their son leading to this tragedy. chances are if you filled up recently you paid more than $4 per gallon. we find prices may be going even higher, i hate to hear that alex. gas prices are around $4, up over $4 per gallon in the bay area this morning. here in walnut creek, regular gas $4.19 and we want to show you some video. how about this for sticker

for mileage. good morning everybody, let's -- or you can wait until the drive is over and you can have that option. it looks like we may have a problem on highway 4 westbound just near the port chicago area so we are trying to run it down for you but the traffic is slow and it is coming to a standstill. the collision is right at willow pass road, a four car crash, 2 vans and other vehicles, so it's right near here and we'll see if we can get the camera turned and boy, you can see all that slowed traffic. also if you are driving at the bay bridge toll plaza, no major problems and the drive will be okay in san jose northbound 101, northbound 280 but there was a car accident which is on the shoulder. let's go to steve. thank you sal. there are some pockets of fog

investigators have not said yet if they have determined a motive. there is now another well that needs to be searched. allie rasmus just spoke to the bounty hunter who has been helping out in this investigation and joins us now from san joaquin valley. allie? >> reporter: one of these speed freak killers has revealed another location which may reveal more remains. he said there was a third well located on this fenced in property we are standing next to. according to wesley howard shermantine that third well is somewhere in the vicinity of that tower and this tower and that third well is within a mile of the original excavation site which is where san joaquin valley officials have been

working to dig in the past couple of weeks recovered more than 1,000 bone fragments and other human remains. the excavation on the original well is now over but wesley howard shermantine and loren joseph herzog are suspected of killing as many as 20 people and many of the victims' bodies still have not been found which is why this third well is of interest to authorities. they described wesley howard shermantine's didn't mean more when he gave them that information. >> very meaningful, he was not panicking or trying to be a con artist and he was very straightforward. there is also a well by the tower he says. >> now it is not clear whether the search for remains at this third well will start any time soon and we will try to get more information directly from san joaquin valley authorities and we have put in a call to them and we are still waiting to hear back, allie rasmus ktvu

channel 2 morning news. time now 6:47, sal is back and he will get you where you need to go, sal? >> yes, we found a crash this morning on highway 4 and we have a truck fire on highway 780 eastbound interstate 780 west i'm sorry at south hampton, there is a truck on fire and part of the truck is on fire and they are causing a little bit of a backup heading towards 680 now i want to move the maps and move them all the way to the south bay. there is a crash at delacruz -- della cruz right near the airport. a car crash westbound and you can see traffic is slow coming to concord. this is the concord side of the world and as we move to the left, it is coming in slow from

bay point and that was in the lanes at one point and that's why it was very slow. taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a 10 minute delay here. >> we have some fog and carlos just tweeted me, awesome spectacular sunrise, let's take a look, there is too much fog. if you don't have that fog, these clouds are making for a beautiful sunrise but there is a lost low clouds, and it will list, it is now out of the north and it is northwest but it is leaning more northerly. you can see from the northeast, it is drifting over us so 40 to 50s on the lows. clearing, breezy, especially in the north and east bay hills, 62 to 70 and temperatures are starting to rebound after yesterday's cloudy cool day.

. welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news, take a look at the big board, we are really close, one of the stocks to watch home depot, better than expected earnings and warm weather is bringing people out to start their spring projects early. remembering the three men who died in that avalanche at washington state they were all expert skiers. they were among a dozen skiers spending their sunday at stevens' pass. but one of the skiers triggered an avalanche and set the group thousands of feet down the mountain. >> they have done this hundreds of times without any issues... >> one of skiers who survived
