power outage transformer fire has affected traffic here so certainly if your commute takes you this way it will be a major impact. pg&e crews are on the scene and this whole area, pg&e on the scene and they are trying to get a handle on this transformer fire. when we first arrived here atville lense why -- at the area, we can show you what it looked like earlier. again pg&e is telling us that the fire here started at about 3:54 this morning and they are characterizing this as a transformer failure. we spoke to pg&e this morning and they called it a transformer failure and top of the poll is on fire. they tell us when they arrived

there was still sparks and there were still flames. >> the transformer was still parking and it was burning at the time we arrived here. pg&e was already on the scene so they were shutting the power to the area to the polls. why they were shutting the area, a power poll fell down and then it sparked again. >> now i just got off the phone a few minutes ago and they now say crews are managed to restore power to all but 130 customers at this time. they say the last of the customers should have power restored by 8:00 this morning and this does have traffic implications so if the commute takes you to this area it will affect your commute. for now live in san francisco,

christian captain ktvu channel 2 morning news. it has been a busy morning for firefighters in the east bay. a fryer broke out and at first the situation looked far worse. they saw a plane looking out of the roof and they say it was just a piece of art and nothing to do with the fire. red cross is helping some people following an early morning fire in oakland. they were called about 4:00 a.m. and achieve said a resident tipped over an oil lamp while making a snack. oil spread and curtains caught fire. the resident try to put out the fire but couldn't and everybody escaped and nobody was hurt. toll collectors are on

alert after two armed robberies on the bridge. you can tell us how they may pro pride some valuable crews. >> a person pulled out a gun and robbed one of these toll booth operators. they tell us they do have some good leads and now this is one of two armed robberies here on the bridge and there are plenty of surveillance cameras but chp investigators will not say what they collected on the suspect's vehicles. this is not the first time they have been targeted here. according to published reports, they have been robbed three times in december of last year. one computer told us, he has not noticed a lot of officers patrol here. >> maybe one time i have seen a cop there. >> and we just learned there

are extra people on actuality here because of these robberies. lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 morning news. a man is recovering after being pistol whipped and shot. he was coming home with his family when the gunman approached him. he demanded money and his truck. the victim resisted and he was taken to the hospital. the gunman is described as somebody in his late teens. just before 7:00 last night officers received calls about numerous shots fired at shields reid park. when they arrived they found a man in his 20s who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the stain.

surveillance videos show him throwing a knife at the officer and toxicology tests show he was high on drugs at the time. the officer acted lawfully and in self-defense when he shot hill. the governor's new consumer watchdog agency is launching an investigation into overdraft fees by banks. they tall a racket that earns billions for the banks each year. coming up, which bank customers are more often hit. tim geithner will spell out the details of a new plan to call the corporate tax rate. they want to cut it from 35 to 28% in exchange for ending dozens of loopholes. the new tax work would offer a

mostly cloudy, most of that fog should be wiped out. fair and warm, breezy at times later on. wind on mt. diablo is picking up at 60 miles per hour and that's an increase in the last few hours when it went from 51 to 69. the wind advisory starts tomorrow morning and now it goes 4:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. thursday. there are still gusts 25 to 30 but so far it is about above 1,500 feet. still it is a blustery day. 51 oakland, 53 san francisco. livermore at the airport is 60. yet temperatures around livermore range from 46 to 60 and it depends on where you are. lower 40s, napa and all the

. welcome back time now 6:14 they just released a 2008 shooting of a sheriff's deputy. you may find these pictures disturbing. you hear the sound, you see the video, this is video from a police squad car taken on a remote dirt road. that gunman fired 17 shots at the lieutenant deputy and he died right there at the scene.

his killer was convicted earlier this month and is now on san quentin's death row. a woman facing charges in abbas czar murder -- bizarre murder plot. she tried to kill a random person wearing if you are in what she called a protest. they stayed in contact with her for several months through facebook. she was arrested yesterday. they are launching an investigation into whether big banks are setting you up to pay overdraft fees. you may be paying more than you need to, allison? >> pam, that's right, ahead of the new consumer brewer row -- bureau, big banks like bank of

america and jp morgan were accused of making tricks to have customers pay overdraft fees and they paid big payments first and it is misleading marketing about how overdraft protection works. they say customers should look for small banks that don't charge you when you go into the red. young customers seem to be hit the hardest with overdraft fees and this investigation could read that new rules about how big banks operate. allison burns ktvu channel 2 morning news. nobody was hurt but that was after a student used pepper spray during recess. the incident happened yesterday at the element trail school.

-- elementary school. the student sprayed pepper spray and parents were called to pick up their children. police say it appears the incident was an accident. time now 6:16, a student who was on a hunger strike has died. alexander gomez died six days after refusing to eat. he along with 31 other inmates were protesting conditions. officials are making no comment on the cause of death. they are waiting for an autopsy report from the kings county coroner. gomez was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. the chronicle reports a couple is claiming negligence saying the coroner's office allowed an ambulance company to remove and dissect their son's brain after he died in a car crash. it was following a subpoena

order to turn over the brain tissue which was also sued by the man's parents. well it is a classic symptom of heart attack, chest pain but a new study suggests women are less likely than men when suffering a heart attack especially if they are under the age of 55. younger women with no chest pain were more likely to die than mail counterparts. he was bay area football coach known around the country as a friend of quarterback tom brady. tom martinez died of a heart attack at a redwood city hospital. it was his 66th birthday. the former football coach helped to guide tom brady

. traffic is moving along relatively well, those metering lights are working and we'll see if they cycle traffic properly. yesterday we had a bit of a problem and we had a backup of about 15 to 20 minutes. strong winds are making it tough to drive and the winds caused this tractor-trailer to flip over. the driver we can tell you was not heard, and more windy weather is expected out there today with 100 mile-per-hour wind gusts. those are old but they are getting a face-lift. they approved a $21 million plan yesterday to make improvements to about 80 of the city's diesel buses and that includes the breaks suspensions and transmissions. they are hoping to get that

joining us and it is the middle of the week february 22nd, i am dave clark. the news right now police in oakland are searching for a suspect near 45th and telegraph. alex savage tells us this search is closing down several streets, what is going on alex? >> reporter: i am being told this is an active search for a shooting suspect near 45th street and telegraph. we will look at what we have seen and officers have their guns drawn and we see several officers going door to door in this neighborhood. there are several in the neighborhood even a jack in the box, but this all started where they got reports of gunfire in this neighborhood. police say they heard gunshots and officers came out and they are now looking for a shooting

fire broke out at a home in berkeley. they made it out safely and at first the situation looked far worse. firefighters arrived on the scene and a small plane was sticking out of the roof and it turns out they had nothing to do with the fire. >> everything is going really good. it was right next to -- i had a fire box where i had some things and it was outside of the range of the fire but just before i left i could hear it. so it probably blew up. an investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire. art supplies and some flammable liquid, some made it difficult for crews to battle that fire. time now 6:33 more than 100 people have no electricity after another fire involving a

transformer. christian captain is there near the district where pg&e crews are trying to deal with all this. good morning christian. >> let's give you a live look, this is a pg&e crew monitoring the scene and this truck and technician is still trying to work on that can up there. that is transformer up there. at its height that transformer was on fire and there were sparks coming out. it knocked out power to 2400 people and right now that number is about 130. i spoke with pg&e about a half hour ago and that's what they were telling me. it all started with a transformer -- transformer failure. pg&e is calling this a transformer fire which happened shortly before 4:00 this morning. san francisco fire crews were called to the scene and they

proceeded with caution. they described the scene with sparks and flames leading to the top of that utility pole. one person told me it would take pg&e all day to restore power to everyone but pg&e is saying that may be a little bit pest mystic. -- pest mystic. >> [inaudible] >> reporter: now one of the career affects this has coming back to our live look is not just a power outage, you can see that traffic is still shut down betweenville lense why and mission, we will continue to monitor the situation but we will go with more of a look of traffic throughout this area. you know that street is busy in the morning and i think

people are going around and let us know when they reopen that street. otherwise we have a problem in other areas and problems in other areas. the bay bridge, let's go right to the mcarthur maze, for the second morning in a row the bay bridge back up is better than it is. traffic is backed up around the corner of the mcarthur maze and as you can see let's go to alive shot of the toll plaza and it does appear traffic is moving through. yesterday looked at -- yesterday we looked at this shot and it appeared to be at a standstill. it does seem to be a little improved. if you notice cars are moving through at least in the fast lanes they are. the other cars are not moving through quite as quickly. let's look at the south bay commute. we are off to a decent start here. there are really not a lot of

incidents so if you are a valley computer, take advantage -- computer da come outer -- commuteer take advantage now. you can see a big old ridge of high pressure with high clouds and high clouds in the morning, 40 to 60 on the low, it is really 48 to 62 and most of those high clouds should be out of the picture sunny and breezy by this afternoon. temperatures yesterday, santa rosa was one. 66 in san francisco, 73 concord, 71 san jose, and the wind is already picking up in mt. diablo. the national weather service is issuing a wind advisory tomorrow. that will start thursday for you but it was already 35 to 60

in some of the higher elevations. more wind likely tomorrow and that will help temperatures continue to warm up. 37 in napa. temperatures around livermore. 46 to 60 and they are 47 to 71. and in the financial district, 47 so they are all over the place. a lot of 40s and most locations in the 40s. a high of 72 in downtown oakland getting a little bit of that easterly breeze. high pressure, there it is, just building in and everything is going up and over. here along with some very warm temperatures this time of year. probably not record-setting but mostly sunny it will be warmer and we have windy conditions in the higher elevations. livermore has an airport 16 miles per hour and hence those

60-degree temperatures. a lot of high clouds, looks like sunnyside up, we will take it to friday and more pronounced on sunday. sheriff ross mirkarimi returns to court for the final hearing before friday's trial. today would likely be the day that lawmakers would announce a deal to avoid a costly trial in this highly publicized domestic violence case but prosecutors and defense lawyers say they are eager to present their case to a jury. both have denied their charges. arrangement is scheduled for 2:00 this afternoon for a man accused of beating a berkeley hills homeowner to death. jordan dewitt is ill and he killed the homeowner outside his home saturday night is where this helped. -- happened.

police are defending their response time. they were called to report a trespasser on the out the complaint because they were monitoring an occupied protest and police went to the home after his wife called 911. lake county investigators released this photo and a suspicious man tried to lure two children into a truck late saturday afternoon. you can see it here, it is an olive green pick up with a light canvas top. the investigation continues. well east bay mud worked late into the night to fakes water-main break to fix a huge sinkhole in lafayette. a mother and her daughter were driving around selling girl scout cookies when their car got stuck. their van had to be towed.

fire. two firefighters suffered minor injuries and the government's consumer watchdog agency is launching an investigation into expensive overdraft fees by banks. they will investigate how the banks charged those fees which earned them billions of dollars every year. bay area toll collectors after two recent robberies on the carquinez bridge. joining us from the bridge they will tell us how cameras will provide some valuable clues. there are employees out here this morning and because of the two armed robberies that happened in just a week, if you take a look behind me you can see it is business as usual on the carquinez bridge. you can see they are in plane view but chp investigators will not tell us what they collected

activity is what we have been following, sal what can you tell us? we are looking at the activity from news chopper 2 in this oakland neighborhood near 45th and telegraph. a lot of police cars tell us it was a shooting suspect for this crime which happened just before 6:00 a.m. this morning and just a lot of police officers, as a matter of fact, there are a lot of police officers kind of waiting around so if you are in this neighborhood, the big street you can see is telegraph but this is saturated with police officers and there on the freeway is chp officers. now they have not shut down the off ramp at 51st but the police officers are there nevertheless. let's go to interstate 880, traffic is moving along relatively well getting up to the bay bridge toll plaza and by the way, the backup is a

little thick. not as bad as it was yesterday but it is a little thick. and south bay 101 and 287, you still have time to jump ahead of the crowd. a big sunrise over the big city here, a few high clouds and the wind has cranked up some of the higher elevations but temperatures are very mild yet no breeze at all, 30s and 40s but that's textbook. you can see everything is pushed off towards the east and temperatures will be on the way up today. santa rosa 76 and san francisco, although it is 53 right now and 61 in twin peeks. 71 in san jose, we had a cool cloudy monday, remember? fog on tuesday, although some areas did get the sun and warmed up. set for a few patches of fog and we will warm temperatures up today and also tomorrow.

well microsoft has logged a formal complaint with moat role la. they have tried to block sales of windows pcs and other products. moat role la is also trying to stop them from using standardized patterns needed to connect with the internet. and apple lodged a similar complaint against moat role roller. and they are going deeper into junk status. they believe greece is highly likely to default on its debts in the near term even with that second bailout. a san jose mother arrested in connection with a stabbing, what police are accusing her of doing. and major trouble ahead for the cell phone industry it could mean a slow down in service and more dropped calls.

arrest accused of being the getaway car, margaret is suspected of attempted murder. her 15-year-old son stabbed a 13-year-old boy last week and she drove him away afterwards. police say the attack was gang related. her son is also in custody and police are still looking for another suspect. congressman george miller is adding $2,500 to the reward funds to catch the vandals of a richmond elementary school. they shattered more than 30 windows and threw paint all over. the damages could take up to a half million dollars to repair. dublin high school will welcome two stars part of a panel hosted by the school's engineering academy and will answer questions about science. last december they sent a canon
