received an emotional phone call today. >> hi -- oh my god -- >> monica kenny and supporters celebrated after receiving a call from fannie mae. the agency told her it was delaying her eviction by two weeks. kenny said that fannie mae will look into whether or not wells fargo will work with her, allowing her to keep her house. >> you just need to reach out. don't be ashamed. that was my problem, i felt ashamed. and without them coming to me, helping me, i don't know where i would be. >> kennedy lost her job two years ago and was scheduled to be evicted this morning. and sunny skies in the bay area all over, in fact it was so warm today that some places logged new records for warm weather in february. ktvu's chief meteorologist will tell us more. robert handa has more on the parker impact felt there by the heat. >> reporter: well right now the

concern is the wind picking up, causing concern about fire danger and allergies, but many are benefiting from the warm weather here in the valley. and in the santa clara valley it is even boosting the economy. it is definitely not a sight you see very often in san jose in mid-february, a full-fledged construction project going on, while others are under way in the city. the south bay council says it is a complete turn around from last year when heavy rain kept hundreds home, and stalled thework on the site. >> it is a benefit for all of us, the log book, if they had any, they can go out and bid for more work. a big benefit for all of us in the construction industry. >> reporter: a lot of industries that usually lay low in the winter are usually flying high during the stretch. the aviation airport is riding it full tilt. >> and this weather is just fantastic for that.

scheduled to begin friday with the selection of a judge. and the bodies of a mother and adult son found in the ashes of a house fire in sonoma county. ktvu's mike nebak has more on the evidence that the fire investigators are gathering about the cause. mike? >> reporter: and julia, tonight as the sun sets on this february day, an investigation is starting as fire officials try to determine exactly what caused the fire at a house up on the private driveway. a fire that killed two members of the small pen grove community. >> there was a beautiful old woman who was blind, and she passed. >> reporter: the group gather along the 1300 block of tiny west gate lane, where this afternoon they watched as the coroner's van drove away two 3w0eds -- >> we're treating it as a crime scene. >> reporter: the detectives have not released the names of the victims. but they identify the son and mother as elsie grant and

gordon grant. the battalion chief says that the fire, the small 900 square farm home found it difficult to fight because of the debris and much more. >> the crews came in, and had a couple of issues of power lines that fell due to the fire . so they had to come from different sides. there were no fire hydrants. >> reporter: one resident said he smelled what he thought was an electrical fire just moments before seeing the flames and calling 911. fire investigators are looking into the report. >> whether it was electrical or what they smelled was the plastics type of burning, which came from a normal structure -- this fire seems to be at this point, an accident in nature. again, the investigation is still continuing. >> the victim's family members were at the property late this afternoon, and they declined the comment for the story, asking to respect their privacy, reporting live tonight here in the town of pen grove, mike nebak, ktvu.

and in fremont, the hunt for armed robbery suspects leading police to lock down three schools. the police chase started at 11 11:30 after the report of a home invasion robbery. all three suspects caught within half a mile of three schools that were on lock down for about an hour. an oakland elementary school evacuated today after a neighbor spotted an armed man across the street. police say the 22-year-old man was seen with a rifle right in front of a house that was just across from maxwell park international academy. the school evacuated the students to a nearby park. officers got the man to surrender, and students then were returned to class. police say the man told officers he was upset about something going on in his personal life. and the pilot of a small plane forced to make an emergency landing in the south bay, happening at reed airport in san jose, at about 10:45 this morning. the fire officials say the

pilot had radioed he lost power to the engine. by the time fire crews had arrived at the airport, the plane had landed safely. the pilot was the only one on board the plane, and was not hurt. and san jose police say 14 people taken into custody at a mardi gras celebration last night. no reports of injury or property damage. the sheriff's department added another 30 deputies. last year authorities arrested 26 people during mardi gras celebrations. and 19 uc davis students and alumni filing suit against the university over the controversial pepper spray incident that made headlines last year. the group protested the tuition hikes last november when you probably remember this, the university police tried to break them up by using pepper spray at very close range. the lawsuit, filed by the aclu, accuses the police of using excessive force. uc davis says that the university has not yet seen the lawsuit. and president obama leading

his presidential challengers by a wide margin here in a new exclusive field poll. residents here say they prefer president obama to mitt romney, 35%, it doubles that of santorum and he leads newt gingrich by 23 points. ron paul was not included in the poll. and california today taking out a billion dollar loan to help get through the cash crunch. state controller john chung says that they will help the state make it through april without issuing any iou's. california is 3.3 billion in the red. the state controller covered the rest of the deficit by delaying payments to universities, and other organizations. and bracing impact of the proposed tax increases in november. the district says that if this measure fails it will lose nearly 1.3 million in funding. officials say the district has reserves to help get through

tough times and does not expect to lay off or furlough any staff. the district's budget is due by the end of june. and san francisco voters will decide in june, whether to limit private events. supporters say they're planning to kick off their campaign on april one. the measure qualified for the ballot last week. the initiative would strictly limit the commercial activities on telegraph hill. breast cancer a risk for any woman, but the evidence we found is that female firefighters could be at an even greater risk, and at a younger age. and openly gay members in a church, making an exception. the protection they want if same-sex marriage is legal [ crickets chirping ]

remains beginning tonight at new sites in san joaquin county. sheriff's investigators are looking for abandoned wells, looking at areas drawn on a map by death row inmate wes shermantine. and last week, investigators dug up more than a thousand bone fragments. wes shermantine along with the late loren herzog are believed to have killed more than 20 people in the late '80s and '90s. and a man charged with the beating death of a homeowner. daniel dewitt was arraigned in oakland after killing 67-year- old peter cukor after hitting him in the head with a ceramics planter outside his home. the dewitt family says their son is a paranoid mentally ill person. and women with breast cancer, getting it at a younger age. john sasaki has more from san francisco, with a call to action to protect the ranks of female firefighters.

john? >> reporter: this is station 26, which lost two firefighters last year. the station captain is part of a very large group in the department. she is among 16 firefighters who heard the words you have breast cancer. it was a quiet afternoon at home for san francisco fire captain anita pratley. but on her mind is the disease that ambushed her when she was 46 years old. >> i didn't think about cancer. and to me i'm more afraid of any fire that i've been to. >> reporter: a few days after she got the tests, her partner delivered the news. >> she said honey, you have breast cancer. and i couldn't believe it, me? i don't know -- no, no. >> reporter: among all women, one in 69 will get breast cancer in their 40s, that is 1.45%. in the san francisco fire department, with 117 women in their 40s, there are 16 cases of breast cancer, or 13.67%.

>> that is always in the back of my mind. because i know that i have been exposed to toxins. >> reporter: others say fire fighting is dangerous, not just because of fire. >> we try to keep ourselves protected, as much as we can. but the skin absorbs toxins, so there is only so much you can do to protect yourself. >> reporter: along with the san francisco firefighters cancer prevention foundation, they are calling on medical researchers to start to study the dangers faced by firefighters. >> there is a product of combustion, and women have been firefighters for more than 40 years now. >> reporter: tomorrow, the firefighters women service is giving money to help in the fight against cancer, live, san francisco,s john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 action news. and the veteran's affairs clinic has re-opened following an outbreak of the norovirus.

a spokesperson says the 120 bed center went under quarantine on february 9th, more than two weeks ago. doctors wanted to stop the virus from spreading, patients generally stay at the clinic to recover from surgery. we're following breaking news right now. all we know at this point, a police chase is going on in san francisco. there are reports the driver is moving from freeways to streets. now the latest word, he was on southbound 280. now we're told that the chase is moved from surface streets. last word, on iowa street, no word on what the driver is wanted for. the chase is reaching speeds of 80 miles. again, in parts of san francisco, a chase going on at high speeds. we're learning more and will update you. and a bank in delaware approving loans given to solyndra employees. they wanted to give bonuses to

21 employees, and then scaled back the request. the judge today approved the bonus request of 370,000, solyndra says they need to keep key employees to help during the filing of the assets. and hp recording record low profits. hp's net income fell to 1.45 billion, down from 3 billion a year ago, the palo altocompany's revenue fell, with stock below 89 today, a 1.3% drop. and san francisco lawmaker mark leno introducing a bill on an exemption regarding the same- sex marriage layoff. the religious freedom bill would protect clergy from being forced to perform a marriage against their faith, and protects their tax exempt status. >> even the opponents of marriage equality realize it is

in our future, and makes sense for us to put it into statute, and to put it there now. >> the move comes as supporters of prop 8, california's ban on same-sex marriage, asked a federal appeals court to re- consider a recent decision to strike down the law. and a warm day, bill joining us where the tracking is. wind possibly for tomorrow? >> the wind advisory in effect for tomorrow. late through tomorrow, the winds in the hills above berkeley, about a thousand feet is where the wind advisory is cut off. at sea level, most of us wouldn't notice much wind at all. going to the golden gate bridge, i checked the winds out of the west at 26 on the gusts. that direction will go away. we'll clear it out. the direction will switch to northeast tonight. that is the wind advisory direction, as that high pressure builds in, in the areas most affected, they're the areas here outlined above the campus, above the sky line boulevard. you will see very strong winds, 25, perhaps 30 miles per hour, maybe even 35 miles per hour. and that also warms us up,

because the offshore winds, i say it all the time, it makes sense, the winds go offshore. that disposes of the fog, but the air sinks out of a high pressure zone, when it sinks, it warms, when air rises, it expands and cools, when it sinks, it compresses and warms. that is what we have today. the forecast lows on the mild side, a bit of wind in the hills, you will notice that 10- 15 above average today. and tomorrow. temperatures out of the high pressure zone will be well in the 70s and low 80s. here is the warmup wednesday and thursday. temperatures are going to trend down after that. hard to go up after that, isn't it? so the wind advisory, in effect late tonight, into early tomorrow morning, and you can see -- probably early tomorrow morning into tomorrow afternoon. you can see right in the airline outlined, the east bay hills, stronger wind. i don't expect this to be a major event at all. but it will reach wind criteria levels. so 25-30 miles per hour. you know where you live. up in those hills, it will be
