well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's monday, february 27th. we're coning to follow developing -- continuing to follow developing news from ohio a shooting has left several children injured at chardon school. the officials have confirmed the lone gunman is in custody an it's believed to be a student. the shooting apparently happened in the cafeteria just at the start of the school day. the lockdown at the school is now over and students are being taken to another school to be reunited with their parents. stay with ktvu "mornings on 2." we'll bring you any updates from ohio as soon as we get them. we're following overnight news from oakland. investigators say a bad

extension cord is to blame for an early-morning apartment fire. it started about 3:30 at a 16- unit building not far from interstate 580. firefighters got there within minutes and immediately saw the flames. >> it was located in the back of the apartment. so when the first crew arrived, there was no initial on the scene but then they were able to locate it quickly. >> the fire left several families out in the cold for about 90 minutes. an overnight fire in san jose fire destroyed a backyard shed. this fire started behind a home on south 7th street about 12:45 this morning. on the the other side of the -- on the other side of the of the fence, firefighters were able to keep the fire from

spreading. the cause of the fire is under investigation. 7:02. palo alto police are increasing patrols. thieves targeted eight residents in one day recently. paul, do police think the crimes are connected? >> police are not ruling it out. three of those burglaries happened at an apartment complex on gront avenue where all -- grant avenue where all three u mights were -- units were hit. the areas where the crimes occurring are a neighborhood near middlefield road, a home on puerto law avenue and three more on sheridan -- portola avenue and three more on sheridan avenue. the thieves will knock on the

door before breaking in. the thieves got away with jewelry and electronics. police are looking for the possibility they are connected. >> i would think that there are multiple crews working in town because of the geographic differences of where these occurred would indicate it's probably not the same people. >> there was also a burglary attempt at another home when the person tried to enter through the pet door. police are urging you to make sure all of your windows and doors are locked. and before answering the question ask who it is. police are dedicating more officers for patrol on the north side of town. 7:04. new this morning, vandalism at the state capitol in sacramento. police have arrested the cung man who caused -- young man who caused a lot of damage. they say he did it by throwing

rocks. the suspect is behind bars. this morning lawyers in the domestic violence case of san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi return to court for a hearing to decide if the jury can see a 50 had second video taken by the neighbor of lopez and her arm. lopez told the neighbor that her husband inflicted that injury during a fight on new year's eve. the defense is trying to block that video. new details are emerging about the growing scandal involving an -- an almeda tape.

tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: this happened earlier at this hotel called the homewood suites. police were called out here after lockyer received head injuries after arguing with a man she was supposed to be having an affair with. according to "the chronicle." a tape was given to bill lockyer. he has indicated that he might make that tape public if forced off to break off -- if forced to break off the relationship with nadia. the investigation didn't get far because prosecutors felt that nadia and the man were engaged in a consensual relationship. >> regarding the hotel incident, the man gave us a

. the fbi is now part of the investigation of a school shooting outside of cleveland,

ohio. these are live pictures from chardon. the shooting started at the start of the schoolday in the cafeteria. sheriff's officials say a lone student gunman opened fire hitting four other students. a lockdown immediately followed. but the student gunman is now in custody. no word on the extent of the injuries of the four victims. parents are picking up their children at a nearby high school. we have more of our video showing the interrogation of convicted serial killer, loren herzog. he committed suicide just as authorities in the central valley uncovered humane remains tied to him and wesley shermantine. allie rasmus has more. >> reporter: well, this video dates back to 1989, shortly after the speed freak killers

were arrested. detectives questioned herzog for 19 hours over a period of five days. and in the interrogation, herzog implies that shermantine is the ringleader e calls him a -- ringleader. he calls him a cold-blooded killer and his friend killed 25 people. one of the killed this woman. he says he was there but never did anything. [inaudible] >> the woman was killed more than a decade ago but it wasn't until earlier this month that authorities found her remains. other remains have been unearthed in san joaquin valley. the new leads are coming out
