"mornings on 2" begins right now. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, march 6th. a house fire in pinole has sparked a criminal investigation. we're live from the scene with new video of what was discovered after firefighters put out the fire. alex? >> reporter: good morning, pam. yes, the police investigation has been launched out here in pinole after this early-morning house fire. we'll get you a look at fire investigators. this is a fire investigator beyond us taking a look at the house, trying to figure out what caused this fire. they to believe there was a marijuana growing operation. the fire broke out on ramona street. we'll show you video of what we saw. some plants, it looks like in the back of the rooms.

firefighters knocked the flames down and that's when they found equipment and plants used to grow marijuana. they say no one was home at the time time of the fire and they believe this place potentially could be a vacant home. we did just a short time ago talk with a woman across the street and she tells us she doesn't think anyone lives here. >> my husband says somebody is out cleaning the house outside yesterday, they were sweeping. >> reporter: when was the last time someone lived there? >> i never know somebody lived anymore. >> reporter: right now, fire investigators are trying to pinpoint an exact cause for this fire that broke out and trying to secure the house. police from pinole are here on the scene, and they are gonna go inside and launch their investigation into what they believe is a marijuana-growing

operation in pinole. back to you. >> thank you, aim lex -- alex. we're tracking another house fire on rose court around 2:15 this morning. police helped three people get out of the burning home. one of them suffered smoke inhalation. the red cross is helping the victims. the firefighters had the fire under control in 20 minutes. the cause is still under investigation. it's been a violent night on the streets of oakland. police right now investigating several shootings. it includes deadly gunfire in east oakland that led to a car crash involving children. paul chambers is at children's hospital in oakland with the latest. paul? >> reporter: dave, this is becoming an all-too-familiar incident -- children being injured as a result of fire. the police say the call came in about 6:30 last night when they responded to shots fired in east oakland. once arriving in the 8700 block

of bancroft avenue, officers found several cars were involved in the accident. police say the driver of a bentley had been shot about a block away and tried to get away. that's when his vehicle crashed into several vehicles including a monte carlo which had a mother, two children and another adult inside. firefighters had to use the jaws of live to remove some of the people in that vehicle. the two children were transported to children hospital with minor injuries. the driver of the bentley was taken to the hospital where he died. oakland police have very few details on it. if have you any information, call oakland police. we're trying to find out if they have anyial dated information. as soon as we find out, we'll pass it on to you. >> okay, paul. police rushed to a shooting in west oakland. two people were injured in the attack on 13th and peralta. police responded to this

incident, they just left the scene of another shoot right near the intersection of fairfax and bancroft. that's where a man was shot in the chest. we don't know his condition. police are trying to determine if the final shooting of the night is connected to the earlier gun violence. police found a wounded area on 48th around 9:00 last night. the young victim refused to answer any questions about how he was wounded. he's being treated at highland hospital. the polls are open in the ten states holding super tuesday primaries and caucuses in the republican race today. coming up at 7:15, we'll have a live report from washington, d.c. with what is at stake for candidates today and the key states where rick santorum and mitt romney are running neck and meck. in a few hours from now, president obama will hold his first news conference. year. the white house says it's just

well, senator john mccain wants the u.s. to start bombing syria. he says president obama's stand against president assad is too soft and that american-led airpower is the only realistic way to protect the people in syria. the united states shall lead the effort, through air strikes on president assad's forces. vladimir putin's spokesman is defending the arrest of hundreds of protesters in moscow. they were protesting the results of the recent election. despite those who volunteered to work as poll observers, some say the election was rigged in

our newscast during the day and tonight and on ktvu.com. 7:17. back here at home, an oakland man accused in a deadly bar shooting near jack london square last year is due in court this morning. 292-year-old could get life in prison for april's shooting at sweet jimmy's on broadway. two people were killed, five others were wounded. police continue think any of the seven victims were the intended target. they think this stands from a -- stems from a dispute with two gang member rials outside of the bar earlier in the evening -- rivals outside of the bar earlier in the evening. the city control estimates the night-time industry generates 4.2 -- $4.2 billion in consumer spending. it crow eights $48,000 and pays $55 million in taxes.

it is 7:22. a mother in indiana lost both her legs after sheeding her kids from a devastating tornado. stephanie decker successfully used her body to shield her 5- year-old daughter and 8-year- old son when friday atornado tore through marysville, indiana.

here. the judge is considering the request. now, the sheriff faces the domestic violence charges for an leaked fight with his wife -- alleged fight with his life on new year's eve. 65 protesters were taken to jail on trespassing charges after refusing to leave the capitol building. police moved in around 7:30 last night. one by one protesters were handcuffed and removed from the rotunda. the arrests capped a day-long protests over cuts to higher education. >> the money is there. the politicians can fully fund this by taxing corporations. >> governor brown says the protests highlight the need for the tax increase that he's proposed for the november ballot.

nasdaq is down 43. s&p is down 17. the rumors that yahoo will lay off thousands of employees by the end of the month continue to circulate because they are looking for ways to cut costs. yahoo remains profitable but it continues to lose market share to its rivals. one-third of the employees are in sunnyvale. apple fans are excited about the expected announcement tomorrow about a new ipad. some business owners are worried. they have accessories for the apple products. and since apple is so private about their products, they they have -- they have to basically guess what they will come up with. the apple industry cops $2

classmate. investigators say they did not keep the loaded weapon in a secure area at the family's home. police are expected to take the moi -- expected to take the boy's mother into custody. a new study to be released today by the u.s. education finds minority students at schools across the country. more than 70% of students involved in arrests are either latino or african-american. the study also says that african-american students are three times more likely than their white peers to be suspended or expelled. later today, arne duncan is expected to discuss the full report. the chief is defending his department after a deadly attack that occurred in the berkeley hills. the homeowner called berkeley police last month and reported there was an introwedder on his

in pinole and now there is a police investigation. alex savidge is live at the scene with what firefighters found out once they put the fire out. alex? >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes, we're learning more about the scope of this marijuana- growing operation. we just spoke with an investigator from the pinole police department and he said what they found was 300 marijuana plants. investigators say they found several rooms inside, all of them filled with marijuana plants and growing equipment, lights and all of the other equipment needed to grow. this was all discovered just after 4:00 this morning when a fire broke out in this house. it wasn't a huge fire. firefighters knocked down the flames and that's when they discovered marijuana plants inside that house and they saw the growing equipment. obviously, at that point, police were called in. as far as if the cause, fire investigators looked into that. they do believe the cause of the fire was electrical.

this started in the floor and it did start with the -- with the wiring system here and police are looking to see if it possibly is connected to the growing operation discovered inside this home. live in pin nome, alex savidge, chus. 8:00. an overnight police chase led to a crash, one that injured an innocent driver in san francisco's bayview district. this happened about 11:00 last night near hudson and mandel. police say they were going after two men escaping a crime scene when the suspects crashed into yet another darr injuring the driver. >> we dent nope that driver's can be. police -- we don't know that driver's condition. police did arrest one. they are still searching for the other man. and a 15-year-old boy was arrested after a high-speed chase. authorities caught up with him on alamo drive in vacaville last night. the chase started in fairfield about 8:30 after a hit and run. but fairfield police called off their pursuit because they say the teen was driving

erratically, going up to 90 miles an hour. with the help of the chp, the 15-year-old finally stopped and surrendered. police say that car was stolen. 8:01. it's been a violent night on the streets of oakland. police are now investigating several shootings and that includes deadly gunfire in east oakland that led to a car crash involving children. paul chambers is live with more. >> reporter: good morning, tori. oakland police rae leased -- released limited information. there was a car accident and that ended up with two children here at children's hospital. just before 6:30 monday even, police responded to a 911 call of shots fired in east oakland. once arriving in the 8600 block, officers found several cars involved in an accident. police say the driver of a bentley had been shot about a block away. as he tried to get away, his

homes. police had evidence they were involved. police believe the two boys attended the school at one time but now they attend other schools. last month, someone shattered more than 30 windows and damaged a new multi-purpose room at neilstrom school. the west contra costa county superintendent is recommending the school board approve the $10,000 offer in the meeting tomorrow. that would bring the total $2,000. opening statements are now underway in the murder trial of four alleged gang members in sonoma county. they are accused in the shooting of vallejo musician, dewey tucker, two years ago. he was shot to death while driving on interstate 880 near the carquinez bridge. prosecutors say he was mistaken

for a lival gang member. well, two parks will be offlimits for the next two months. the parks will be closed until september. in november, san francisco voters will be asked to approve a bond measure with the funds going to fix up park, playgrounds, restrooms, athletic fields and the waterfront. the port of san francisco hopes to get $0,000 and use it towards several projects -- 40,000 and use it towards several projects including a cruise terminal. the total amount of the bond measure has not been set yet. san rafael officials will start to research a possible

band on possible food containers. the proposal had been put on hold after there was a lawsuit to stop the ban without an environmental impact report. san rafael leaders had been waiting for the legal ruling but last night the city council voted to move ahead despite the ongoing action. taxpayers who paid $125 million for a new carpool lane may also have to pay to rip it up and move it. we're talking about the eastbound carpool lane on 580 between pleasanton and livermore. if current plans for a b.a.r.t. extension go through, the carpool lanes on both sides of 580 will have to go to make room for train tracks and platforms down the freeway immediate up. it's still not clear when that would happen. but i know a lot of commuters would like to see b.a.r.t.

super tuesday is underway in ten states. a lot is at stake for the four presidential candidates. 419 delegates are up for grabs. police still at the scene of a house fire in pinole after marijuana plants were found in the house. alex savidge joins us live. what are neighbors saying this morning. >> well, neighbors say they saw some strange behavior from the people living inside this house. this was a morning house fire that turned into the discovery of the marijuana grow. if you take a look inside the garage behind us here, you can see some of the plants that police are pulling out. at least 300 plants found inside, with equipment, lights and other equipment. it was all discovered around 4:00 when a fire broke out inside the house. the flames were knocked down. firefighters saw this growing operation. police are telling me it -- this house appears to be vacant

house fire in concord that happened about 2:15 this morning. police helped three people escape from the burning house. one of them did suffer smoke inhalation. the red cross is assisting the victims now. firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. in santa rosa overnight, firefighters rushed to a house fire on ashton avenue. when they got there, just after midnight, neighbors said there could be a woman and two kids independent side. but after police -- inside. but after police searched the house they determined no one was home. they put out the fire within about ten minutes. that fire is also being investigated. in san francisco, 1,000 dui convictions are being reinvest -- reinvestigated. that's because police will accused of not properly checking screening device. jeff adachi says a random check of the callie braing of tests show -- calibration of tests
