all those winds. this is what it looks like right now. flags are being blown from the wind. these conditions are exactly what our chief meteorologist bill martin told us to expect yesterday at 5:00. let's go to what bill has to say. >> right along the coast point rays the winds are howling. san francisco airport 40 miles per hour, it's blowing out there and it's going to continue to blow for the next few hours. the wind advisory stays in effect until midnight. and winds currently outside we go to point rays, and you can see the winds gusting to 45 miles per hour. that is significant wind. now the winds are going to die down. when i come back at 5:18 i'm going to show you how cold it's going to get tonight. because in parts of california there's freeze warnings and

wind advisories. i'm going to tell you how cold it's going to get when you get going tomorrow. it's super tuesday. voters in ten states are casting their ballots. ken wayne is here now with some of the early results and what's at stake. ken. >> reporter: polls have just closed in eight of the 10 super tuesday states. mitt romney is already the declared winner in virginia, massachusetts, and vermont. newt gingrich is the declared winner in georgia tonight. that's one of the two states with the most delegates at play. we want to show you what's going on now. ohio is the closest battleground state today. it is the state where 63 delegates are at stake. we want to pull up ohio for you. 63 delegates here. polls show this to be a toss up between mitt romney and rick santorum. right now with just 1% of the precincts counted, santorum is leading 39% to romney's 37%. the other big state at play is of course georgia. this state has the most

delegates here today on this super tuesday 76 delegates at stake. it is gingrich's home state. he needed this win to keep his campaign alive looks like he did it. newt gingrich is the projected winner in his state. so in all there are 118 delegates at stake. 1144 delegates are needed to win the republican nomination. as it stands right now, mitt romney has the most delegates with 220. rick santorum has 86, newt gingrich has 39, ron paul has 46. more numbers are coming in, we'll have an update including the battle in oklahoma and tennessee. a lot is at stake and the republican candidates for president spent super tuesday looking for last minute votes. in some cases casting their own votes. mitt romney and his wife arrived home in massachusetts after campaigning in ohio. they headed straight to their hometown of bedford to cast

we're continuing to poll low the super tuesday reports -- to follow the super tuesday results. ken wayne is tracking those numbers and is back again with what they show. >> reporter: what we know right now is there's not going to be a clean sweep on this super tuesday with different candidates winning different states. polls closed about 15 minutes ago. and there are three more states that have closed. massachusetts, oklahoma and tennessee. in massachusetts mitt romney was the governor there he's been declared the winner as well. and he's also won vermont and virginia. we're still waiting on numbers to come in from oklahoma and tennessee even though the polls have already closed there. we have updated numbers from ohio with 2% of the precincts reporting. romney is now leading rick santorum. that's a turn around in just the last 15 minutes. newt gingrich has been declared

the winner in his former home state of georgia. coming up at 5:30, we'll update the numbers for you in the race to become the gop nominee for president and where each candidate stands, back to you. tennessee is considered among the most conservative of the 10 states holding elections today. in the past week the top candidates have ramped up their attention to tennessee. and the latest polls have that race now neck and neck between romney and santorum. tennessee has an open primary which allows anyone to vote regardless of party affiliation. voters in oklahoma also went to the polls to cast their primary ballots today. rick santorum is hoping his brand of social conservatism will bring him victory in oklahoma considered to be the reddest of the red states. and much of the focus is on the key swing state of ohio where both santorum and mitt romney have spent the most time campaigning ahead of soup tuesday. polls there also show the race

neck and neck. no republican presidential nominee has won the white house without carrying the state of ohio. here at home, san francisco is trying to figure out how to handle wild animals that show up in urban areas. rob roth now with what's being discussed and some video of a coyote where people don't expect to see any. >> reporter: over the years, people have spotted coyotes in this state park. a wildlife official is putting together a campaign to help coyotes and individuals coexist. nobody is sure how many coyotes are living in san francisco but there are enough that a member of the commission of welfare is proposing a plan.

gingrich has won georgia. there are still three more state where is the numbers are still coming in. the polls have just closed. massachusetts, tennessee and oklahoma. we know romney won massachusetts. he used to be the governor there. in tennessee there are 55 delegates at stake and right now as it stands, rick santorum has 91% of the votes there. and newt gingrich has 18%, ron paul has 6%. in oklahoma with 40 delegates on the line. santorum has 34%, romney has 28%. ron paul has 9%. newt gingrich has 25%. ohio was the real battleground on this super tuesday in early returns, romney leads santorum with 42% of the vote. paul has 7%. in some cases we're only getting for instance in oklahoma just one precinct has reported. so these are very early numbers in some of the these states

pinol police tell us they are following up on leads after a early morning fire unveiled a marijuana operation. inside that home fire crews discovered 250 marijuana plants and grow equipment. police say the plants have a street value of about $750,000. now the home appeared to be vacant and police are trying to determine who owns it. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. in petaluma a police arrested two people suspected of vandalism and hate crime at a junior high school. the 14 and 15-year-old boys sprayed the walls of a junior high a week ago.

the boys were arrested at their homes yesterday where officers say they found evidence of the vandalism. it appears both boys attended that school in the past. clean up costs are estimated at $5,000. the west contra costa school district is hoping a bigger reward will help catch the vandals that caused $9,000 in damage. they speared paint on walls and floors and they broke a valve on a water heater. tomorrow the school board will consider a proposal to add $10,000 $10,000 to the reward. federal officials have been defending the product of pink slime. it's made from left over animal parts that would other wise become pet food. after being treated with

rick santorum is trying to keep this a two man race. ken wayne is here again to update the delegate count for us, ken. >> reporter: polls have closed in eight of the 10 super tuesday states. we're getting a clearer picture of the winners and loser. we want to add up the delegates each candidate has won so far today. none of the states is a winner take all. that means the candidates get a percentage of the delegates based on the number of votes they collect. after winning virginia, mitt romney now has 249 delegates. rick santorum has 89 delegates. newt gingrich won the state of georgia and now has 39 delegates. ron paul has 49 delegates and is counting on a win in idaho where the polls count in 52 minutes. 32 delegates are up for grabs there. tonight has been mitt romney's night to a point. there's still a very close race going on in ohio as well as in tennessee and oklahoma where numbers are still coming out.

we have really short weather memories. it was warm yesterday. temperatures were well above the average. and today it really does feel like winter again. it's cold, it's breezy. temperatures 15 degrees cooler than they were yesterday. wind advisory in effect. everyone had a few showers last night. a few light sprinkles. winds offshore right now gusting to 45 miles per hour a mile. here's the great highway here in san francisco. there's a cliff house, and all along here i have to tell you these are all sand dunes. in all this area. the sand is whipping, it's blowing. the highway closed for a time today. i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get it open until tomorrow in some cases because the sand is flying around out there. the winds are heavy at the cost, and right along the bay. the winds will die down. they're starting to set down a little bit but it's still windy out there. that's the way it's going to go until about midnight. the wind advisory does get dropped at mid-night. when the winds drop it's going to get cold. temperatures are going to drop. it just depends how early those

winds fall off. if the winds fall off the next couple of hours it's beginning to go 29 degrees in santa rosa. if the winds stay breezy which i think they will into midnight and 1:00 in the morning then temperatures will be mostly in the 30s. suffice to say. tomorrow morning the case scenario the winds stay going until 12:00 or 1:00. you can still see freezing or below freezing temperatures. you're going to see plenty of frost. the system blows through here. we will see one of the cooler mornings we've seen this week. the winds will be lighter tomorrow. the daytime highs will be normal. but you start off real cold. the long range computer model there's wednesday, there's thursday, there's friday. this is winter now. there's saturday. rain staying north and east and west. and then sunday, and monday. this is not a winter forecast by any mean. they're coming up a good five to 10 degrees. highs again as we go into the 10 day forecast we'll be significantly warmer as well.

san rafael officials aren't getting a court date get in the way of researching a plastic bag and container ban. a lawsuit brought by the save the plastic bag coalition against a similar measure passed by marin county is working its way through the courts and could one day make such bans illegal. mayor ed lee said he started by visiting districts and simply listening. >> i walked with carmen, chu supervisor chu throughout the terivale district. got a good sense of some of the challenges and listened to the coffee shop owners, insurance company owners. >> reporter: mayor ed lee said today his recent push to bring

back business may have overshadowed the other districts. his new invest in neighborhoods program was introduced today. the portola district has led the way with new tree, underground utilities and refurbished store fronts. >> this corridor along san bruno experienced an 8% increase in sales tax. just because the people believed in this neighborhood and continue to come in here not only if -r the coffee shops, for all the different clubs. >> reporter: the new initiative would partner neighborhood leaders with city employees to map out plans to revitalize their corridors. that could mean sidewalk cleaning, fresh awnings, even new parks. initiatives would come from existing resources like community grants and small business loans. coming up in a few minutes, a newly renovated youth center may soon be shut down.
