off the coast. those winds here we go. those winds showing up just offshore here. there's a gust of 45 miles per hour. the area of most concern really has been right along the great highway and south of pacifica. strong southwesterly winds blowing sand up over the great highway. they have issues, the highway has been closed. it could stay closed for a number of hours. strong winds across the coast and down the hills. we have a wind advisory that remains in effect until midnight tonight. a windy night. when we come back at 6:18 we're going to look directly at your bay area forecast because it's going to be real cold tomorrow. right now let's go to john fowler at the golden gate bridge, john. >> reporter: it's because israeli president peres is right now coming down that ramp in a limousine. he arrived about 15 minutes ago and is now finishing his tour of the bridge. as you can see from the flag up

above, he was experiencing about 15 to 20-mile an hour winds here. most of the people we talked to today really enjoyed this breeze. >> cold, windy. it's nice though. >> despite gusts of 25 to 30 miles per hour. >> it's windy but it's actually feels kind of warm. usually you need a jacket on. >> reporter: this sailboat drifted at noon, coast guard rescuers told us no one was inside, they are investigating. slow winds slowed installation of a near by home solar power unit. >> we're in the garage today. so tomorrow hopefully it'll calm down and we'll be on the roof again. >> reporter: wind surfers were out. >> i had to take off work. >> reporter: some pined for the mild and still air we've had so much of. >> it was like summer two days

clean sweep. ken wayne is here now with the latest returns. >> reporter: mitt romney has won massachusetts, vermont and virginia. newt gingrich has won georgia. the polls just closed in idaho where 32 delegates are at stake and we will bring you those numbers when they come in. idaho are small potatoes. it's a close battle in ohio between romney and santorum. 63 delegates are at stake there. mitt romney has 25% of the votes. santorum 37%. gingrich 15%, paul 7%. let's take a look at two other states that are just coming in now. tennessee and oklahoma. rick santorum is looking good right now in tennessee. in fact, rick santorum is just won tennessee with 44% of the vote to mitt romney's 28%. in oklahoma, with 40 delegates on the line, santorum is ahead with 36%, romney has 29%. paul has 9%, gingrich has 25%. so again the real battle no

president will give be attending a temple. security is high in the area. 50 potential jurors were dismissed today and another 150 have been called for tomorrow. as the jury selection process moves forward. mirakrimi's juror want as change of venue. they want to show the pretrial publicity has soiled the juror pool. the defense and prosecution teams met with the judge to discuss a change of venue which legal analyst gym hammer tells us would be very rare for a misdemeanor case such as the one against mirkarimi. oakland's vice mayor is under fire for funding a youth center for at risk teenagers. john sasaki live from city hall in oakland with what's at the center of the controversy, john. >> reporter: frank, city council is meeting right now and the youth center will be discussed tonight on the hot

someone shot him several times. jerels crashed into another car. taxi drivers are protesting outside an mtm board meeting in san francisco tonight. munni tells us specific taxi issues aren't on the agenda but drivers are testifying against a rule that allows cab companies to take 5% of the fare when a customer uses a credit card. they're discussing monthly fast passes and plans to speed up service. federal drug enforcement agencies say three people arrested in one of the largest meth busts in u.s. history are linked to a mexican drug cartel. three were arranged yesterday. all three are being held now on $3 million bail. after the dea says they were found with $34 million worth of

meth last week. a tip about stolen i pads led police to the san jose apartment complex where they found a staggering 750 pounds of raw meth and a lab to convert it into a crystal form. also in san jose it appears a homeless encampment underneath a busy interchange is back. about a week and a half ago we told you about caltrans crews removing the encampment from the area. where highway 87 and interstate 280 intersect. the february 28th clean up came after repeated complaints from neighbors who said they were concerned about drug use and about people crossing the freeway ramp to get to the camp. average uniform, it may not have gotten a second look. how that all changed for a young soldier home from afghanistan and the surprising thing he told us. a specially equipped van stolen. now a bay area woman has it

one application kills weeds and puts down a barrier to stop new ones for up to four months. roundup extended control spray once. stop weeds for months. ktvu has learned that only one of 72 people taken into custody during demonstrations at the state capital yesterday is still in jail tonight. the sacramento county sheriff say it is 22-year-old southern california man armed with a cane sword is being held without bail. the remaining 66 were cited for trespassing and released. lawyers for the police union argued the report

contains personal information that state law prohibits making public. a hearing is set for next week on whether to make that temporary restraining order permanent. a happy homecoming in the south bay where a young soldier got an unexpected welcome home. eric somerville has the surprise that awaited him. >> reporter: he knew his step dad would greet him with a few people. he did not know the swarm of people that would surprise him. >> reporter: it was a heros well for jeff holla. home from a war some have called forgotten. a group of veterans who make up the patriot guard riders joined holla's brother and stepfather to change that perspective. >> it's a little overwhelming, i wasn't expecting it.

homecoming even sweeter. we brought you the story of christian round tree last night after someone stole her van. round tree is paralyzed and her van is modified to handle her electric wheelchair. a tip led police to that van a couple of blocks from roundtree's home. still no word on who took the van. it is a real cliff hanger. ken wayne is updating the return and has some updated numbers for us. >> reporter: the polls are closed in eight of the 10 super tuesday states. the big battle as you mentioned is in ohio where it's been back and forth between mitt romney and rick santorum. right now with 23% of the vote in the two are close but santorum has moved ahead with

38% of the vote, romney has 36%. now to oklahoma where rick santorum has just been declared the winner. he has 35% of the vote there. newt gingrich and romney each have 27%. so, romney, santorum, gingrich all have victories tonight. we'll continue tracking the results as they come in. we'll bring you an update coming up in this newscast. the stock market's rally took a hit today with the dow jones industrial average. dropping more than 1-1/2%. the dow closed down 203 points it's biggest drop of the year. the nasdaq was off 40 points to a climb of 1-1/3 point. the first of three coast guard meetings for the american cup is just getting under way in san francisco. the coast guard is holding the meetings to lay out their proposed rules for the san francisco bay this summer and

next summer. again that first meeting is taking place tonight at the precidio. the second will be tomorrow and the third thursday night in oakland. the clothing store slated to take over the space now occupied by san francisco's historic gold dust lounge has reportedly moved into the space next door. express is the name of the store, the san francisco business times reports the plan is for it to expand into the adjacent space when the bar moves out. the bar owners have signed a lease agreeing to the plan but now they are suing the landlord and seeking landmark status. a construction accident cut off cell phones, and credit card machines. people could not get cash from atms and gas station credit card machines would not work. one station said it lost $2,000

at 26, sustained winds at 29. temperatures plummeted today. highs tomorrow, they're going to warm up another five to 10 degrees. so a roller coaster in temperatures. there were a few showers this morning. those quickly moved through. now this ridge of high pressure is building and this pattern keeps repeating itself. all winter long. i mean we had, that was a weather system that went through here last night. that's why there's wind. the pressure difference but it wasn't much of a weather system. that's not enough to make it then. up in the mountains i have a report of six to 8-inches to a foot of snow from this. the last couple of storms have done the mountains a lot better than they've done us. that means frost tomorrow morning, warmer tomorrow afternoon. back into the mid-60s. as we get into thursday and friday, warmer still. the long range model i'm just going through it because you know it's going to happen. we're into friday, no rain. we're into saturday, no rain. sunday, rain close but no rain.
