have been underneath the black cloud that just couldn't lift. >> reporter: they say when a child with special needs becomes an adult, there are day programs for them, but it sometimes is hard to find the right one. and there are other worries as well. >> it is frightening. you don't know -- you know you're not likely to out live your child. then who is going to take over when you're gone. >> reporter: now those women say their hearts go out to lester, a devoted father now left without his wife and their only child. reporting live in sunnyvale ktvu news. >> and autism includes brain development disorders, those with autism with struggle with social actions, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repeating behaviors.

one spokesperson said that one in 10 children are on the autism list, and boys are likely to be diagnosed one in 70. >> and as she mentioned, elizabeth volunteered for the group, parents helping parents. visit ktvu.com for more information on the organization and the support it offers your family or those who you may know who are raising children with autism. just go to web links on the home page. and a hayward man pled guilty to dwi charges in a hit- and-run charges involving a nine-year-old boy after a san francisco giants baseball game. prosecutors say this video shows 22-year-old andrew vargas hitting a taxi while driving through the financial district last august, the same night he hit ryan white at mission and new montgomery streets. ryan white is now back in school on a temporary basis and is still recovering from his injuries. vargas will be sentenced later this month. and prosecutors say he will get credit for time served. and a walnut creek man pled

not guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with the deaths of a danville woman and her mother. 32-year-old john harris was accused of negligence in the accident, running a red light at brookside drive. they say he hit a vehicle carrying a 51-year-old and a 72- year-old. harris said he had a seizure just before the crash. he is due back in court on april 12th. and protesters rallying in san francisco this hour over birth control. ktvu's rob roth has been talking about the message they're trying to send. >> reporter: right now, about two dozen people are rallying in front of st. mary's' church? support of maintaining women's rights to abortion and birth control. over the next hour they are making speeches and candlelight vigils. now all of this is on the eve of international women's day. >> it bears kind of a perverse interest in women's health

right now. it is regarding women's sex lives. and i think we need to focus on other issues that are a lot more pressing in the country. >> reporter: about an hour ago, the group rallied across the street in front of the archbishop's house. we were told he was not in the office at this time. this comes on the heels of a bitter debate in washington over the insurance coverage of birth control. the republican lawmakers tried to pass an amendment that would have allowed the employers and insurers to opt out of parts of the president's law, based on the birth control. the pope's proposal had the support of the catholic church, which said it was an expression of religious freedom. supporters say such matters should be left to doctors and patients to decide. >> the religious liberty is not threatened by our reproduction. they don't have any say on how we govern our bodies or why we choose to have abortions or use birth control. it is none of their business.

>> reporter: we're back live, we tried to get a comment from the church. we were unable. the protest has been peaceful. and is expected to last until about 7:00 this evening. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 action news. and israel president making another high tech visit to the bay area with a stop at google. ken pritchett is live at mountain view where the meeting is continuing. >> reporter: yes, frank, right now you can see the police blocking the parkway as we wait for the presidential vehicle. the president, perez, at google's headquarters meeting with the president. what exactly they're talking about we don't know. that meeting is closed. the israeli president's vehicle arrived at about 4:45 with streets blocked off at rush hour. heavy security dotting the google campus, in what was a meeting close to the media or public. the president had a much more open event this morning in san francisco, where he opened the

launch conference. where high tech investors seek to win start up money by showing off their ideas. during the visit, mr. perez stressed the importance of working with silicon valley, with this being a major exporter. he held a town hall meeting that allows him to reach out to young people in middle eastern countries, citing that as an important part of the peace process. at the san francisco launch conference this morning, mr. perez spoke with tensionings of iran, but spoke primarily about israel and offered encouraging words to many, regarding the videos and text. >> as a young start up company, what a great moment to talk to somebody who gives support. >> reporter: well, we expect the vehicle to leave google headquarters any moment now, the exact timing we don't know. in fact the rest of his schedule after he leaves google, that remains under

tight wraps. in mountain view, ken pritchett. and the city of oakland filing a lawsuit against an occupy protester. the lawsuit claims 24-year-old broke in the windows of a police office with a folding chair. oakland is seeking more than $6000 for repairs, and unspecified punitive damages. aduerry has not yet commented on the lawsuit. and a whale sight in san francisco bay prompting a warning tonight, we got calls all day about the gray whale and her calf seen. news chopper 2 spotted the whale there as you can see in this picture. a marine sanctuary spokesperson said there was a report of a boat harassing the whales. officials say that they can face penalties for disturbing the whale. and union care givers looking at the contract talks, the national union of health care workers agreed last summer to do without a raise until the parcel tax was approved in november to help pay for it.

the union says that management offered a 1% wage increase which is off set by cuts to health insurance. workers say that is not fair. the hospital administrators had no public comment on the matter. and college students keeping up the pressure in sacramento today against cuts to a state scholarship program dozens showed up to protest the cal grant award for students attending colleges. grants wouldn't change for public universities. and san francisco 49ers management announcing today the death of former defensive lineman roland lakes, drafted by the niners in '61, playing six seasons before retiring in 1971. lakes died monday of undisclosed causes. he was 73 years old. and we're learning that

. a $7000 reward being offered today for a missing hayward man who has alzheimer's. investigators say that tushio was last seen at the residential community about 5:00 on monday. police say his family is very worried. and they hope for any new leads. toshio is 5'6", weighing about 135 pounds, wearing a brown shirt and gray sweat pants. and the contra costa district attorney filing attempted murder charges against an oakland man, stemming from a shooting in antioch last month. the 20-year-old man was the alleged getaway driver, due in court friday. police are searching for two men in connection with the february 11th shooting that left two people wounded. and the pleasant hill police officer's association says it is dealing with a disturbing jump in violent crime. the group says just last month, officers responded to a fate

fate drive by shooting, along with an alarming number of armed robberies in a city of 33,000 people. the association says that crime overall is up 6%, and violent crime is almost doubling. there were 51 violent crimes this past january and february compared to just 27 in the same period last year. and a ground breaking meeting set for this hour in san francisco. members of the police and youth commissions getting together for the first time at city hall. the purpose is to try to improve relations between the two groups. the seven-member police commission sets the police department policy while the 17 members of the youth commission range from 12-23 years of age, and make policy recommendations about youth issues in the city. and a golden eagle rescued at a park in san jose, may never fly again. new at 6:00, ktvu's robert handa live in gilroy where a crucial examination was happening today. >> reporter: well as you will see this eagle is a magnificent

looking bird. and today, the injured eagle was brought here to the gilroy facility to see if it will get a chance to fly again. the powerful flapping of this golden eagle's six foot wing span was examined closely by the doctor, of prince valley hospital today. the adult bird was apparently injured in a type of collision, and found by a san jose park ranger last week, then cared for by work. the wildlife education and rehab center of morgan hill. >> came to us in pretty bad shape really on that. and so we have been working very hard with it. >> reporter: the doctor says a wound on the left wing is healing well. but as they examined x-rays, a troubling image turned up on the wing. >> you see this black line here? it is possible he has a fracture. >> if the fracture is there that could hurt its ability to be released. that is a very important bone to birds that fly, because it is what allows them to bring their wings back wards. >> reporter: the doctor says

the bone is too small to perform surgery, so he wrapped the wing for support, and will let them continue the rehab program. the golden eagle returned to begin the program. >> there is pain, we have him on the special pain medication, the medication, whatever this bird needs we are giving it to him. >> reporter: the group work says it will be about three weeks before they can test the wing in a limited way, and another two months before it can be released into a larger facility to see if it can fly. live, gilroy, robert handa ktvu. and apple taking orders for the new ipad shown today. the tablets will hit stores next friday. the ceo says the new model has a faster processer, higher screen resolution, a better camera, and voice dictation. they said that it proves tablets are the future of

computers. and coming to cable tv, a source says that cable operators would include netflix as an on-demand option. they told the conference last week that they see the move as the natural direction of the company's business. the first partnership could come by the end of the year. facebook saying the number of people who connect to the social network on the mobile devices is changing. they say 432 million users regularly accessed facebook on a phone or tablet at the end of 2011, that is an increase of 50%, the new numbers came in an updated sec file, and as facebook gets ready to go public. and the city of el paso backing a plan to raise resident's trash bills starting this summer, if they're given approval, the track fees would go up by 5% each of the next

rosa, 65 in vallejo high, the freeze warning in effect. north and south bay valley, i said it earlier. it is a big deal, a low grade freeze warning, when we say that typically this time of year we're talking mid-20s. that is not happening, looking at the forecasted overnight loss, it will be cold, freezing temperatures, not in the big cities, oakland not freezing, san jose, above freezing, when you get the freeze warnings that is what you worry about. the homeless people in the big city, people who don't have the right shelter in the big areas, most of the temperatures will be cold. not that cold, as cold as we can often see this time of year, thursday, friday, warming up. today was nice, tomorrow nicer, fridays really nice as well. a few clouds in the forecast for tomorrow. the golden gate bridge, and eventually we were talking about the story of the gray whale, today's windy -- out on the bay, tough to see the

. well after 14 seasons with the colts, peyton manning had to say good-bye today. and you could tell it was tough. >> oh, definitely, and of course it would be. but even when you're peyton manning, nothing lasts forever. so after all of those great years, the four mvps, the super bowl, thanks for the memories, see you down the road. and he is free to go. if he proves he is healthy, peyton manning will probably be the most wanted free agent were. but of course that didn't help him with his emotions upon his official leaving today. >> i haven't thought yet about where i will play. but i have thought a lot about where i have been. and i have truly been blessed. a few words i want to address, to colts fans everywhere. thank you very much from the bottom of my heart, i truly have enjoyed being your quarterback.
