dozens of people are still evacuated from five buildings at this hour after an apartment fire in berkeley. the fire tore through a building on dwight way. burning for hours and destroying six buildings there. residents of four other buildings can't stay there either. >> reporter: you can see some of the damage here, four surroundings buildings including this one have been yellow tagged. that means residents can't stay here tonight and possibly longer. maintenance workers put up a temporary fencing to avoid passage to the area. >> i have coats and textbooks and stuff. >> reporter: must be tough to be out of your home

say the fire appears to be accidental and the fire seems to have started in a closet that houses two water heater. reporting live, amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. more details now, ktvu news learned the building is owned by bali reddy. we have reported on him in the past. back in 1999 a teenage girl from india died of carbon monoxide. bali reddy served eight years in prison. we have new video of an accident. it happened on 24th avenue near international boulevard. and it involved two vehicles. witnesses calling it a running gun battle.

there's no word on the extend of the victim's injuries. police have recovered a weapon at the scene but have not yet confirmed if it is indeed linked to this investigation. in fairfield, police have identified the two young men shot and killed there yesterday. they are 234-year-old vedell jamar chew. police found their bodies in the parkway garden neighborhood of fairfield. witnesses reported seeing a black man with dread locks with a gun running from that scene. police are looking for him. san jose police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with a parking lot beating that was initially described as a hate crime. 21-year-old emilio romayor is accused of bating lual. at the time he said his attacker called him a terrorist. but police now say the evidence does not suggest the attack was

$58.8 trillion total. students are now taking part of a hunger strike to protest the third year of budget cuts. three seniors said they decided drastic action was needed and it is needed now. after the school board approved cuts. they stopped eating solid food. they said going without food is not so different for what students will be doing without in school. >> no programs, no arts, no sports, no counselors, no librarians. that's how it would be for me. because now i'm on the bare minimum, i'm just on water. >> reporter: the seniors said their class won't be affected much, but they're worried about what will happen to future students. the contra costa times reports the school exceeded a 28 student per class limit which jeopardized a $1.6 million grant. but the state board approved a waiver of class size

requirements so that the district can continue to receive the money. the district has promised to meet class size requirements in the future. and there's word that contra costa board of education says clayton high school has met its conditions to become a charter school. the school board made its finding last month. the school board is now negotiating a position to place the school on the charter board. the richmond city council tentatively agreed a new law that allows more medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. the limit would be increased from four to six store fronts with fewer restrictions on where they can be located. there was concern that pot clubs opening may be next to residential areas. so a provision was added to help that from happening. the new law could go into effect next month. today is international women's day. it was started back in 1911.
