cannot argue the case. we'll introduce you to the domestic violence expert that the prosecution is hoping to use to prove their case against the sheriff. a 44-year-old woman from placer county led police on a high speed chase that went on for more than 100 miles until it finally ended this morning in the bay area. authorities say they tried to pull over jennifer zen for speeding but they said she took off at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour going west on interstate 80, south on interstate 680 then turning around at auto park highway in fremont and heading back north on 680. authorities finally took zen into custody after she ran over a spike strip that blew out her tires on her ford expedition. our cameras were there as tried to ask her why she was running from police. >> because, police are giving

me directions here. >> we were able to successfully use the spike strip, that's the 84th there. she slammed on the tires and she pulled over without incident. moved into the right shoulder and conducted our stop and took her into custody. investigator s say they will test to check if zen was under the influence. we received pictures of a man who cause add major s.w.a.t. operation at a store. this picture was taken by store surveillance camera. the second picture was taken just second later. police surrounded the cvs pharmacy after that man was seen inside the store. it all happened at 6:30 this morning before the store opened. the man approached several employees and they weren't sure if he was armed but they immediately left the building saying they feared it was a robbery attempt.

stronger. >> we just found out that last month in february we added 233,000 private-sector jobs. more companies are bringing jobs back and investing in america. and manufacturing is adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s. >> the president also said he wants to use government funds to set up institutes where academics work with the private- sector to come up with invasions in manufacturing. the jobs report was balanced out by news that some banks could take big losses because of a write down from the debt crisis in greece. the market posted modest gains today. the dow added 14 points but is still below the 13,000 level. the nasdaq was 17 points higher at the close. today republican presidential candidate mitt romney campaigned in alabama where he persuaded one star to

that would be great. but that's not the way it works. you have to go out and earn it. that's what we're doing. >> santorum pitched himself to voters as the true conservative in the state. gasoline prices remain largely unchanged this week after a 39 days of increases. the national average on the aaa fuel gauge report is $3.76. that's up 2-cents from one week ago and up 18-cents from one month ago. analysts say prices have stabilized to make room for the upcoming summertime formulas. work on the long awaited phase three of a highway widening project in the east bay is finally officially underway. ground was broken today in antioch for the largest part of the highway 4 expansion. this will center in the contra loma boulevard and the g street. being widened to increase a car pool lane. it also includes e b.a.r.t.

the shed. the firefighters helped him, if it wasn't for them, he would not be here today. >> reporter: he has no name,. >> apparently there was some singed hair. >> reporter: and tonight doctors say he has to battle to stay alive. >> also depending on the heat that the dog was exposed to. you can also have thermal injuries to the air way that could be a problem and something we'll be monitoring for. >> reporter: it was right here where this dog was found. inside this shed or what used to be a shed when firefighters arrived they saw that black male pit bull laying on the ground. >> this dog was restrained. it has no way of getting away at the time. >> reporter: the shed caught fire around 2:45 this morning and when firefighters arrived they rescued and revived the dog using oxygen. so far no one is claiming to be

these are just some of the unforgettable images that came out of japan on march 11, 2011. more than 15,000 people were killed in what was the fourth largest earthquake in history. two days before that anniversary an unsettling reminder a moderate quake with a magnitude of 4.0. so far no reports of injuries or damage. tonight the bay area is preparing to mark the day that one year ago that massive earthquake and tsunami devastated parts of japan.

tsunami looks surreal. it lay waste to 13,000 miles of coastline and killed 19,000 people. in japan's town peace plaza a sunny afternoon. on sunday there's a community remembrance to remember those lost. >> it means the spring has come. so please help the blood future. so try and we could have the god future. so try. >> reporter: this man's affordable housing organization also raised money for the relief effort. >> we hope this doesn't happen too many more times. but apparently nature's way and really can't do too much.

>> reporter: the tsunami remembrance event. today officials gathered to commemorate the effort. the cost of the damage ran about $26 million. coming up on kdvu channel two news at 6:00. robert handa checking in on some locals in the marina for a progress update. this comes after the costa concorida sank in italy. bookings fell off so much it suffered a first quarter loss of $139 million. that's compared to a $152 million profit in the first quarter of last year. even so carnival says it does not plan to offer discounts to get customers to come back and those who are waiting for a cut rate prices will likely be disappointed. space weather forecasters continue to keep an eye on a solar storm.

rain returns next week. it looks like a significant productive wet weather pattern for the bay area. all next week, perhaps into the following week. so winter may make a real gust here. overnight lows will be in the 30s. it'll cool off rapidly. there's the weather system out in the pacific. this one has got a lot of tropical moisture. that's warmer air. this next series of storms comes in and it's coming from a lower latitude. it's going to be warm and it's going to be wet. that's next week. tomorrow temperatures are going to cool off a few degrees. today was nice. temperatures are going to come down a few degrees. 11degrees in san francisco, 10 degrees in livermore. a big drop off. you will notice that tomorrow. with that said you're still doing mid-60s in the warm spots. so your bay area saturday is going to be really, really nice. overnight lows in the upper 30s, low 40s. daytime highs are going to be in the mid-60s. here's the weather system offshore. everything is kind of coming

the crew of an alameda cruise cutter arrived to a heros welcome. they just returned from a successful mission fighting drug trafficking. >> very successful mission. we're very proud. >> family and friends lined the dock holding homemade signs to welcome home the 165 crew members. as soon as the cutter tied off, family members raced up the gang way to reunite with their loved ones. they spent 72 days at sea working chosely with the panamanian navy to stop drug trafficking. >> these missions are very important. it keeps drugs off the streets of america.

we first showed you last night this video of an african leader wanted for horrible crimes against children. it has gone viral. but tonight there's a backlash against the organization behind that film called kony2012. some students at santa clara are having second thoughts about inviting the group that posted the video. >> reporter: this video has gotten 68 million hits. after watching the video many college students wanted to help

the cause to arrest this rebel leader. but the barrage of criticism is causing some of them to take a step back. it's eye catching and flashy. many have taken time to watch the video. it asks viewers to cover their city with posters and get the government to take action. >> i think the message just stop kony is important. but there's a lot more to it than that. just kind of the political situation in africa. >> reporter: people are criticizing the video saying the nonprofit agency behind it invisible children is simplifying a dangerous problem. the agency does not address the risks of going after kony. >> it's not clear that the best way to arrest a person like joseph kony is through a

while apple computer has its main campus in cupertino it announced it is expanding it's presence in austin texas. it announced it is planning to build a new campus. it plans to add 3,600 more employees doubling their workers there. the jobs report released today was very encouraging for february expect for construction workers. over all 200,000 plus jobs were added nationwide last month.

but the u.s. labor department says the construction industry remains flat. the secretary of labor says that's due in part to stalled plans in congress to spend billions on new roads and bridges. she added there's not a big demand for new homes. >> i don't see that that's going to come back as soon as everyone would hope because we haven't fully recovered but you see other segments of the economy that are starting to pick up. >> reporter: despite alling all those new jobs, the nation's unemployment rate remains at 8.3%. the nation's largest prison company is asking to purchase prisons. in exchange the company says the state's must keep the prisons mostly full and pay the firm to operate the prisons for 20 years. the prison departments in california, texas and georgia have all dismissed the idea. a foster city woman's

a bizarre and unusual situation on a flight in dallas. a flight attendant made a ranting speech, she spoke for 15 minutes then started screaming that the plane was going to crash. some of her rant was caught on cell phone. >> get out of the plane. get out of the plane.
