change of venue that was filed by ross mirakrimi's defense team. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. a 23-year-old convicted killer was sentenced today to 50 years to life in prison for a shooting that took the life of an oakland student. michael heartsman was convicted of charges including first degree murder for killing 17- year-old franklin jr. today heartsman told the court that he was innocent but he also said his heart goes out to the family of the victim. the district attorney's office today announced two care givers have been sentenced to jail for stealing more than $170,000 from an elderly woman. patale and umpulate wrote amounts on blank checks given to them by the victims. california's jobless rate

the unemployment figures in the bay area. marin county's jobless rate is actually the lowest in california at 6.6% among the bay area's county solano's unemployment rate is the highest. closely mirroring the state's rate. there's some good news now about b.a.r.t.'s financial health at least for the immediate future. the agency has more than enough money to cover operating costs without making cuts next year. that's due in part to larger than expected ridership. but the board is recommending b.a.r.t. set aside 40 to $50 million a year for several years to pay for new railcars. phase three of the project will center on the area from contra loma boulevard in antioch to the g street off ramp which is set to permanently close beginning monday. a ground breaking ceremony was held this morning. highway4 through antioch is being widened to include a

california reports 68% of likely voters backed proposition 28. the poll also shows 67% support for proposition 29 which would increase the tax on cigarettes by $1 per pack. that extra revenue would then go to research for cancer and other tobacco related industries. california's crush dropped 3% from last year and that sent prices to a record high of nearly $600 a ton. napa county grapes were priced the highest at nearly $3,400 a pound. a masked man caused a major operation today in oakland. police gave us this surveillance photo late this afternoon. it shows the man entering the cvs far pharmacy on broadway around 6:30 this morning. that man then approached two

employees asking for a manager. those employees quickly called a manager. a s.w.a.t. team surrounded and searched the store but found no one inside. we just received photos of three suspects wanted in connection with a double homicide in fairfield earlier this week. police have issued arrest warrants for 21-year-old blake johnson, 21-year-old darren treyhan and weatherford ii. officers describe as a threat to public safety. they are wanted in connection with the killing of 24-year-old vadel chu and 18-year-old bernard knight on wednesday night. police say a shooting just last night may also be connected to wednesday's double homicide. no one was injured in this most recent injury but bollis did break some car windows. officers say joseph mchenry was last seen at his home last friday. they say that he told people he was going rock climbing and

400,000 tax dollars a year. a national transportation safety board spoke in san jose today to discuss the dangerous of pilot fatigue. this week the federal aviation administration fined colgin air for violating crew rest regulation. national transportation safety board blamed the crash on pilot error from fatigue. when it comes to sleep loss and fatigue we know that those kill, injure and cause billions of the dollars. a pilots association study revealed the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. pose the biggest risk for take off. you will be getten getten -- getting an extra hour of sleep. it's also a good opportunity to change the batteries in your sleep arm. bill martin joins u from the weather center. you are tracking some changes.
