oakland police are investigating two separate overnight shootings. one of the victims is a 13-year- old girl. an american soldier accusedded of killing 16 -- accused of killing 16 afghan civil yubs. a live report from afghanistan on this escalating crisis. >> reporter: we're live in pacifica where a marine has been missing for the past five days. and the police chief controversy in berkeley that sparked a national debate. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm ken wayne. >> i'm tori campbell. dave clark has the day off. it's monday, march 12th. topping our news, more gun violence on the streets of oakland. police are investigating two shootings. one victim is a 13-year-old girl. allie rasmus is live with more. >> reporter: well, the 13-year- old girl is expected to recover. she was shot in the forearm and is expected to be okay. investigators have been trying to talk to her and try to get more information -- trying to get more information about what happened. this is the intersection where she was found, 18th avenue and east 15th street, around 2:30. this morning. it was from there, paramedics rushed her to children's hospital. but investigators say this is

not where she was shot. somebody dropped her off here. police don't believe this shooting was connected to another earlier shooting that happened about two and a half miles away where the 13-year- old was found. it was just after 11:00 last night. two men were found shot from nonlife-threatening shot injuries. one appeared alert and was sitting upright as paramedics loaded him into an ambulance. the police have not told us the identity or the age yet. they are still trying to piece together the circumstances that. back to you. last night police found a man's poddy on the rocks near the hayward regional shoreline. at this point, it's not clear how the man died. investigators say there's no sign of foul play.

the coroner hopes to identify the victim later today. the taliban is vowing for revenge for the 16 civilians in afghanistan. an american soldier is accused of going to three different houses, shooting the people inside and burning their bodies. the dead include nine children and three women. the shooter is identified as an army staff sergeant. there's no motive for the shooting. coming up, we'll have more from our reporter and who will show us -- reporter who will show us photographs. a bay area marine has not been seen or heard from in 10 days. as lorraine blanco tells us live, search efforts are near the sharp park. >> reporter: the missing marine was supposed to go camping for

whereabouts, call police. just a couple of hours from now, jury selection will continue in the trial of san francisco ross mirkarimi. 144 potential jurors will be answering questions today. the judge will also consider a veng of venue address -- change of venue adoctors. he has pleaded not guilty. hundreds of dui convictions in san francisco are at risk because of problems with the accuracy of paste test. but the -- breast test. but the city is not the only one who has had to deal with possible conviction. santa clara and vernt -- and ventura buildings have had to close up. as many as 1,000 facilities

where she's been shown gruesome pictures of the shooting site. sara, what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: we were looking at pictures coming in from the western part of the canada hare prove -- kandahar province. we looked at these pictures. they are absolutely gruesome. there are shots of burned bodies. a toddler with a blood- kooverred face. it appears there was a -- blood- covered face. it appears there -- just grew some on one side -- just gruesome photos on one side. the people were told they could come back home and come back to

their villages and -- they are using this to propaganda. the taliban says they will seek reenveng -- revenge, that this shows the u.s.'s true intention. in the middle of the night, sunday morning, the gunman walked down to the village and opened fire on civilians. a full investigation is underway. this is really coming at a terrible time especially due to the fact that just last month, uc troops to have burned co rahns which created a huge uproar here in afghanistan. this now puts any force on the ground in a very dangerous

situation. >> and we understand that security has been beefed up at military bases in afghanistan. you talked about the concerns, especially after the koran burnings, about -- but how much concern is there there could be an immigrant attack against american forces because of this latest incident involving the soldier who killed the civilians allegedly? >> a huge concern. everybody is talking about it. there is a lot of water that soft targets will be targeted in particular. we've heard from president obama who has said that this is a terribly sad time and a disturbing time and a time when so many people have been

working so hard to try to improve the relationship between the united states and afghanistan but this is certainly not going to help that. it's certainly going to put a wedge in those relations. now we're hearing from afghan lawmakers who have called on the u.s. government to have a public trial with whoever is responsibility or -- responsible or who is a suspect. they are not caughting for that to happen. but they've closed parliament for the day. >> thank you, sara, for the report to. stay safe. we appreciate it. fremont has a large part of the population similar to the

two men survive a plane crash that started this brush fire in southern california. the pilot was trying to land on a road in santa clarita. he wasn't able to make it and crashed on a remote hillside. the pilot and passenger were not seriously hurt. the fire bushed about ten acres before it was put out. investigators are also looking into the cause of another crash of a light plane between two houses in sacramento county. the pilot and his two

the raises reportedly started in 2009 when the two began dating. lity was demoted. her pay was cut from $188,000 to $175,000. it looks like some oakland students will not have to change schools afterall. the reason, apparently a better budget. five schools are still set to close in june. occupy protesters are planning several demonstrations today. this time they are counting -- targeting county recorder afghanistan offices -- recorder offices.

the city of san francisco is making it easier than ever to find information about the city. the san francisco "chronicle" reports the officials have moved the data to seattle in hopes of creating the software applications. mayor ed lee who is hereheading the idea says the move frees up city personnel to handle all other -- other responsibilities. a study by the center for neighborhood technology, found that people in marin county spend 56% of their income on housing.

people who live in san francisco avoid the expense of driving cars because they can ride muni and b.a.r.t. 7:35. homeowners in rural part of california are objects to a state mandate to charge them $150 annually as a fire protection fee. governor brown proposed the fee in part because of the increasing number of people loving to wildland areas. under the plan, 800,000 people will be charged a fee. the critics say there's no new service being provided, in exchange for the fee. you might smell natural gas in pittsburg today but pg&e says there's no cause for

him this morning after the time change. the animated family movie topped the box office. it is 7:53. a new express lane in the south bay opens this week and it's expected to provide some much- needed relief for commuters. some 300,000 drivers use the 880/237 change in milpitas every day. starting thursday, solo drivers will have the option to pay a fee to use the carpool lane. >> this is one way for v.t.a. and caltrans to make better efficiency out of a roadway that's, again, highly could be jested and essentially carpool lanes that are underutilized.

one of the victims is a 13-year- old girl. allie rasmus joins us now from oakland police headquarters with more. allie? >> reporter: oakland police say this 13-year-old girl who was shot is expected to recover. she was shot in the forearm. because her injuries are not life-threatening, investigators are hoping they can quickly gather information about exactly what happened to her. now, this is video of paramedics loading the young victim into an ambulance around 2:30 this morning. we're not showing you her face because she's a minor. but one of the questions for investigators is figuring out where this shooting happened. police found her at 18th and 15th but they say that's not where she was shot. they say that's where she ran to after the shooting or that's where someone dropped her off after she was shot. police have no information to give us about possible suspects or motives. the girl is expected to recover
