the sheriff pleaded guilty to one count of false imprisonment. david stevenson is live with more. david? >> reporter: we've learned the agreement between prosecutors and mirkarimi's defense team was reached last night. the sheriff pleaded guilty to one charge wiping away the other charges in the domestic violence case. now, mirkarimi was charged in january with misdemeanor domestic violence battery after a december 31st altercation with his wife. both denied there was any abuse. the prosecution's key piece of evidence was a 55-second video in which his wife tearfully displayed a bruise on her arm. the deal was announced as 144 potential jurors were set to be interviewed this morning for the trial.

now, here are the details -- an exchange for prosecutor's dropping the original charge, mirkarimi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment from having kept his wife from leaving their home immediately after the altercation. he will be sentenced to three years adult probation, 52 weeks of domestic violence classes, and 100 hours of community service. he will also waive his right to appeal. he spoke emotionally about his plea after court. >> for the last two months, this case has caused my family, my department, the sheriff's department, and the city, great turmoil, pain and disappointment. it's a plea. this plea allows us to move forward. >> the district attorney's office thanks all of the witnesses that were very cure ragous and willing to -- kowr agous and -- kowr courageous.

>> was justice served? >> i believe it was. >> reporter: now, as part of the plea deal, the sheriff apologized to his neighbor who filmed the incident for involving him in this case. formal sentencing for the sheriff is set next monday and within the last half-hour, i just learned that he will be allowed to carry his gun with this new misdemeanor guilty plea. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, david. more details now even though mirkarimi has given no indication he will resign as sheriff, the san francisco mayor and supervisors can remove him from office if they determine he has committed official misconduct. later this morning, mayor ed lee said the law is narrow. >> i have to proceed with the body of law on me to see if it meets the criteria. i have to review this with the

city attorney's office. >> ktvu.com was the first to break the news of the mirkarimi plea deal this morning. you can go to our website for more information. you will also hear more for the -- more from the attorneys. a 13-year-old girl was shot and wounded in the forearm and is expected to recover. because the victim is a minor, we're not showing her face. police found her at 18th avenue and east 15th but they say that's not where she was shot. she's they are still trying to figure out where she was. pg&e announced a settlement late this morning. in september 2010, the blast in san bruno killed eight people and wiped out a neighborhood. new at noon, tara moriarty joined us live from san francisco's city hall to let us know the details of the settlement. tara? >> reporter: what the settlement means, is $70 million for the coppers of the

last half-hour after a tanker truck overturned and prompted a partial chore closure. the highway patrol says it overturned near hercules just before 10:30 at cumming skyway. the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. san bruno police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who has been missing for over a week. search efforts have centered near the sharp park golf course in pacifica. his car was found parked nearby. the missing man, joseph mchenry. he told people he was planning to go rock climbing and camping. an extensive search of the water, beaches and cliffs has been conducted. but no sign of him. any one who has information about -- anyone who has ooftion information about him is asked to call police. a new training program that

focuses on human trafficking takes off today. new at noon, lorraine blanco joins us live from the airport about who will be receiving the training and what they will be looking for. lorraine? >> reporter: airline employees are receiving this training because they are an important line of defense of children being moved from country to country. they received brochures about how to identify traffickers and victims and report them. the organization facilitying this train -- facilitating this training says hundreds of thousands of victims fall victim every year to this trafficking. a trafficking victim told us if we care enough about each other we can all prevent this horrible crime. >> i still do better, though my

south bay leaders have the first big installment for a federal grant that will help keep b.a.r.t. in san jose on track. the authority received $100 million from the federal transit administration. it's committed $900 million to the 2.1 billion b.a.r.t. expansion from fremont to san jose. south bay congressional leaders were at a ceremony a couple of hours ago in nay when the presentation was made. today marks the last step before construction can start on the ten-mile construction to add two new b.a.r.t. stations. >> the people of this valley really have to feel good that their faith of what they want to see here is coming to fruition. >> groundbreaks forel first phase begins -- groundbreaking
