will be there and have details at 10:00. lloyd lacuesta, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we have developing news from the peninsula where a helicopter made an emergency landing. it happened before 5:00. 100 yards off the free way. this is a live picture of -- from news chopper 2. the pilot was not hurt. the chp reported the helicopter was forced to make the emergency landing in this area. you can see the single-seat helicopter slipped over on its side. the crash happened a mile away from the argument. domestic violence advocates are calling for the removal of san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi. they held a rally at sate haul. they want mayor ed lee and the board of supervisors to take action against ross mirkarimi. it comes days after he pleaded guilty to a domestic violence

charge. jury found the boyfriend of tracey biletnikoff guilty of first degree murder in a retrial of her 1999 killing. mohammed haroon ali confessed to strangling her in a rehab facility where they were being treated. mohammed haroon ali was convicted in 2001 but the conviction was overturned. her father is former oakland raider fred biletnikoff and he says he is relieved. >> thank god we will -- it will be able to keep a person off the street and keep him away from somebody else's daughter. >> he wants people to remember his daughter as a brave, young woman. sentencing for mohammed haroon ali is in june. crabber was convicted of catching crustaceans that were too small and too many of them. ktvu's david stevenson has been following the trial in san francisco. and explains how timing is everything for the bay area's

crab industry. >> we apologize. those were the wrong pictures. we have david's report. let's go to it now. >> reporter: if crab fisherman, one of the rules, no matter what you find, leave the females and the runty males behind. >> we set a size limit for spawning purposes. >> reporter: a jury convicted tim lee estes in what prosecutors are calling a egregious violation of state law. tim lee estes brought 45,000 pounds of crab to this fishery in 2010. they inspected the catch and found 991 pounds measured under

6 inches. those undersized males are supposed to be left at sea to breed. >> if the males were caught on a commercial size, the population would collapse. >> reporter: officials say tim lee estes had double the legal limit. tim lee estes faces six months in jail and a thousand dollars fine. he may appeal a pretrial ruling. buyers say they should have been measured and tossed before they were brought to the fishery. >> their first line of checking for this is when they pull the pot up and unload the pot at sea. the hope is to continue the cycle so san franciscoens can enjoy crab season for years to come. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. a meeting will address a

up. >> it is emotional. >> reporter: this morning the school board voted to close down doyle park elementry. the school serves low income students. >> the cost of operating the school exceeds the revenue it generates. the district is faced with million dollars in budget cuts. >> reporter: while doyle park elementry is going away a new school is planning on opening up. it is attracting many students from outside santa rosa. bringing in new money. >> this was a financial decision. >> worst thing happening. >> reporter: he thought in this classroom for 32 years and has pictures from each of the years. >> down to this year's class. >> reporter: next year it will

be someone else's room. >> we are in a state of shock. >> reporter: students from doyle park elementry are eligible to attend the charter school but parents weren't sure yet. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. nurses approved a new contract this week. it gives nurse as 10% wage increase over the next three years. it leaves co-pays and deductibles unchanged and requires the hospital to comply with a new law on safely lifting patients. a group is blasting governor jerry brown's plan. the pax payer's session says the governor panicked and made a devils bargain when he teamed

he was killed on highway 13 at 4:30 a.m. this morning. he was driving with three passengers when he crashed into a down tree. they got out of the car and then moments later a truck hit the tree and then hit him killing him. he won the gates scholarship award last year. heavy rains led to two trees crashing down on to homes. crews from a tree removal service removed a 70-foot pine that fell on a house. earlier a 75-foot tall pine fell across the driveway of a home. no one at the two homes were injured. stay with us on www.ktvu.com for forecasts and ktvu channel 2 news chief meteorologist bill martin will be here with more.

as angels member pleaded guilty today. steve ruiz appeared in court and charged with shooting stanley shootstasy steve on october 17. iraq war veteran scott olsen and his attorney spoke to ktvu about claims police intentionally injured him during a occupy protest. they showed us the hat he was wearing the night he was hit on the head and injured. scott olsen's attorney says police testing on the hat shows that it was a bean bag round that hit him, not a tear gas canister as originally thought. >> they are meant to hit someone. the only conclusion is the officer did what he intended to do. shoot this and hit scott olsen with it.

>> police can't discuss what force was used because of the investigation. an hour ago a demonstration got underway in response to the massacre of afghan civilians by a u.s. soldier. they say the killers are the latest in a series of atrociousties in afghanistan. they are calling for withdrawal of all u.s. and nato forces. attorney agreed to represent the soldier that center of the killing. he says he met with the soldier's family and says unless the sodier is returned to joint base lewis-mcchord he will fly to wherever he is held. afghan president said u.s. troops should pull out and return to bases. during a meeting today with u.s. defense secretary leon panetta he said the civilian killings were a cruel act and caused a loss of trust in international forces. the bay area housing

market is picking mup. new figures show home sales rose 14%. prices fell 3.6% from february 2011. new at 6:00, ktvu's sal castaneda is live with how properties are driving the market. >> reporter: i think buyers are sensing opportunity here in this neighbor in oakland. prices are coming down. >> reporter: the inventory of homes for sale is going down as prices remain low. >> our market, we knew it would pick up. i don't think we expected it to pick up like it is now. many homes on the market are experiencing multiple offers. >> reporter: he says sales are especially obust in the low to moderate price range as buyers and investors see good deals. the median price for a bay area home dropped for 17 months in a

the fire tax, that applies to rural residents and supposed to go to the added costs of fire crews protecting property. but opponents say it is unfair because residents already pay for the service through their taxes. our chief meteorologist bill martin joins us tracking the next in a series of storms. >> nothing like the last couple storms. now we are heading for a colder storm that will drop less rain, drop the snow levels down and give us a break from the down pours. scattered showers in the area. what we are seeing right now, light showers towards livermore, south and east of san jose, light showers and santa cruz mountains, they have received 11 inches of rain. check out the rain.
