good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm ken wayne. >> i'm tori campbell. dave clark is off. it's friday, march 16th. more than two dozen firefighters spent the night putting out a huge fire in napa. it started on mustang road at a home last night. tara moriarty is live with more. tara? >> reporter: well, firefighters are asleep right now. they should be waking up shortly. but napa was not the main agency on this fire, calfire was. but together, about 30 firefighters battled the firefighter that happened shortly before 10:00 last night. officials say an eld man was sleeping in his bed -- an elderly man was sleeping in miss bed and woke up to the crackling noise. luckily, he was able to get out of the house. he was on the other side of the house from where the fire

started. his cat did not survive. officials believe the fire started in the garage. inside was gun powder and ammunition. that set off a string of explosions. it took crews two hours to get the flames contained. after crews did get the fire contained. they had to leave. they will go back this morning and make sure all of those hot spots are out. and once the sun is out, investigators will be on the scene trying to pinpoint the house of this fire. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. in overnight news an early- morning car crash sent a power pole to the ground. it happened around 3:30 at market. neighbors say a nord expedition crashed and hit the pole. the impact broke the pole in half and sent it to the ground. neighbors say the suv drove off. but officers caught up with the passengers two blocks away.

pg&e responded to the scene to help clear the mess. you might have felt it. a small earthquake rattled contra costa county last night. it struck two miles north of crockett. it was recorded just before 8:00 last night. there are no reports of any damage or injuries. in gilroy, police say an iraq war veteran killed his 11- year-old sister before taking his own life. now police are desperately trying to find the mother. police say lucero gutierrez was shot and killed by her 27-year- old brother, abel, yesterday. their mother, this woman, is missing. police say they found evidence she's critically wounded or even dead. christian kafton is live and will bring us at 7:30. the soldier accused of killing 16 afghans is in fort

leven worth, kansas. the attorney says he learned the day before the shooting rampage his client was standing next to another soldier whose leg was blown off and the sergeant was surprised to learn he was being sent to afghanistan. >> he and the family were told that his tours in the middle east were over and then literally overnight that changed. i think that it would be fair to say that he and the family were not happy he was going back. >> coming up at 7:15, we'll have a live report out of kabul, afghanistan on why this morning afghan president hamid karzai is saying he's at the end of his rope with the u.s. we're also learning that a 22-year-old marine in afghanistan was shot and killed by an afghan soldier last month. the marine was shot in the back of the head on february 1st while standing guard at an afghan base. the initial report said only

put the project on hold. it is rescheduled until next weekend, that is, if the weather cooperates. okay. we want to check in with sal on this rainy morning. sal? >> i want to mention a problem we only have in the bay area in napa. a truck was spilled a bunch of wine bottles. those left-turn lanes there are blocked. it would make sense. so be careful if you are driving in that area. it's going to be slow. this is highway 4 weekend. the traffic here looks better than it normally does. if you are taking highway 4, don't use highway 242. stay on 680 and go south from there. there have been crashes. maybe there's something there causing crashes. i wouldn't risk it. i would seuss -- i would use 680 instead. there is a stall on the bridges. there is a vehicle there.

brunt of the storm. we've watched this for some time, right, this little pole that sits off the coast. this is gonna eventually shift in the prayer in time for the weekend. that's gonna lower our snow levels and rain returning this morning. by the afternoon, some of the heavier rain. it takes until the early- morning hours for most of the bay area. for the extended forecast, more showers in the forecast. 59 degrees expected in san rafael. 62 in berkeley today. 63 in oakland. 50s in morning. a lot like we've been. it will feel like a replica of yesterday. 63 mountain view, 63 in san jose, the rain not as widespread as yesterday morning but it will become later this morning and then into the afternoon. the weekend forecast you can get little peaks of sunshine.

says the launches are part of a peaceful space program. this is video released by north korea of a similar launch back in 2009. the u.s. and south korea view the launches as tests of north korea's military missile technology and that's a violationings of the -- violations of the united states ban. a helicopter crashed today in afghanistan. the tish irk officials say it -- turkish officials say it appears the helicopter crashed while trying to make an emergency landing. it clipped one house and crashed into another. hamid karzai says he's at the end of his rope with the u.s. he just met with families of the 16 afghans who were killed reportedly by a u.s. soldier. sara sidner is live in kabul. so what does president karzai want from the u.s.?

>> reporter: well, first, he had to listen to more than an hour of villagers who had come from that province where the massacre happened on sunday. they were yelling. they were very, very strong with what they were telling him, which is what can you do for us? we've lost so many family members. why is the u.s. treating us? we believe this is more than one person. how can one soldier go to one house and do this and then burn them. so there's a lot of ainge ainge ger from -- anger from the afghani people. karzai said they are also investigating but he also said he didn't receive the kind of cooperation it expected from the united states when it comes to this investigation.

so obviously, he's very annoyed that 4eus investigators didn't -- that his investigators didn't get a chance to speak with them. the soldier has been flown out of afghanistan on his way to the united states, days after the massacre happened. he also said he spoke with president obama this morning and that mr. obama was upset because he called for the transition of having nato forces in place to having afghan forces take over, for that transition to happen much faster by 2013 as opposed to 2014. tori? >> what would be the challenges be to try to move up the withdrawal of the troops? >> reporter: the u.s. says they believe the mission was gonna stay the same and then you hear this from pr karzai -- mr.

karzai. he says every time we say this will not happen again or the u.s. says this will not happen again, something else happens. is it going to be difficult to speed up the process? probably. we're talking about training and making sure that the afghan solders why equipped and able to take over their own provinces and that's proven a little bit difficult. there is a lot of work still to be done here in this country. and there a lot to be talked about. certainly a lot of frustration from the afghan officials say and the u.s.'s side. >> and sara, one more question, you've been there for a lom while now. have you had a chance to talk to any -- read on their situation, how they are feeling about this? >> reporter: sure. it's twofold.
