no big surprises inside the courtroom. in fact, the sentencing only lasted about five minutes. outside, though, mirkarimi made a length they -- lengthy may mea culpa. >> i deeply regret what happened. i apologize to the people of san francisco, to my wife for what happened on december 31st. there are no excuses. i except full responsibility -- i accept full responsibility. >> reporter: he is undergoing counseling for anger issues. he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor false imprisonment charge. the judge sentenced him to three years probation, domestic violence and parenting counseling and about $600 in

fines. >> i know how deeply i have let the people down. what happened shouldn't have happened and i'm internally deeply sorry. while this nightmare began before i was sheriff, i want you to know that our department is one of the finest public agencies in the nation has been running right and well. >> reporter: the sheriff still has no access to his wife and only supervised visits to his son. the order will remain in place until he receives counseling. contrary to last week, the mayor made no comments about his sentencing. we'll bring you details later coming up in later snooze casts. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> you can read more about this

at ktvu.com. look on the front page. the man accused of killing and sexually assaulting an oakland girl back in the 1970s is expected to appear in court. oakland police arrested curtis tucker earlier this month for the killing of julie mckinney in 1974. investigators say dna evidence found on the girl's clothing links tucker to the arrest. he has previous arrests and convictions for sexual assaults and burglary. the 9th u.s. circuit court of appeals today is once again take up the case demanding local laws banning gun shows be strapped down. gun shows like this one at the cow palace lass year are foregidden on -- last year are forbidden on government property. a northern california couple is challenging this law, banning the laws fairgrounds -- the

laws on fairgrounds. allie rasmus has been following our top story since this morning. they are searching for the 15- year-old. allie? >> reporter: her mom was the last person to see her before she disappeared friday morning. >> she was in an optimistic mood. she was very cheerful. she wished me a good day at work. i told her i loved her. >> reporter: the 15-year-old never made it to high school on friday. over the weekend, search teams combed the neighborhood and fields by her husband. they have not found her. officials plan to come to the school and talk to about 35 classmates to generate new leads. >> if they have any information, even if they don't think it's important, come let us know. >> reporter: investigators admit they are frustrated so

agent prospect and now peyton manning has collected a team. not the 49ers but the denver broncos. it's not a done deal yet. however, manning has instructed his agent to begin negotiations to complete a deal with the broncos. the colts released manning a couple of weeks ago after the quarterback missed all of last season because of multiple neck surgeries. the 49ers and the titans were the other teams considered finalists. as far as the 9ers go, they may still be shopping for a quarterback. alex smith who played one game last season is now considering other teams, including the miami dolphins. >> there's no question that payneton manning -- peyton maining makes your team incredibly powerful. alex smith has to understand this is business. >> if the broncos do sign

manning, it could lead to more on tim tebow. as far as who pays for upgrading pg&e's power lines, that issue went before the utilities commission. jerry brown went to protest the customers paying 95 cents over the next several years. >> now pg&e wants its customers to pay higher gas bills for 50 years for service we thought we were paying for all along. >> we're not asking for that. what we're asking for is customers to pay for new standards that are being put in place by the commission. >> assemblyman hill says that under pg&e's rate structure, it could actually make a profit from the gas line upgrade. if it is allowed to make rate payers bear 95% of the cost.

apple corporation announced for part of the billions it's been sitting on. they plan to pay a quarterly dividends of about 2.65 a share and it will spent about $10 over the next three fiscal years buying back shares of stock options. combine that with research and that adds up to about $45 billion. right now stock is trading at $590 per share. it's up over 2%. at&t officials announced the plans to donate $250 million to help fight america's student dropout rate. the money will expand a smaller program launched in 2008. among the grants it has already given is $100,000 to gateway high school in san francisco for a program to help high schoolers adjust to high school. proposed changes to san jose state's admission

a fire in hayward this morning gutted the garage and damaged the upper floor of a home on chandler road. investigators say an explosion in the garage woke the five people in the home and they all got out safely. they don't know the cause. one of the people in the house suffered minor burns. firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the house next door. an early-morning house fire in east oakland is under investigation. it started around 1:00 a.m. on e street. firefighters say two adults and

four children made it out safely. there are reports, though, the family's small dog might have been trapped inside the house and did not make it out. crews say the fire started at the back of the house. the red cross is helping the family find temporary housing. a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire this morning outside a jewish school in france, killing a rabbi and three children. police say the gunman fired 15 shots from a handgun. authorities say ballistics show the gun used at the school was also used in two attacks last week that killed three paratroopers. investigators say the motive is unclear. the jewish leaders express concerns over anti-semitism. it's been nine years since the u.s.-led coalition invaded iraq. that invasion occur in march of 1993. now. , followers of -- now followers of al-sadr are demanding better

living conditions. they want the government to provide better-paying jocks, public services and fight corruption now that u.s. troops have left iraq. republican presidential candidates are out campaigning ahead of tomorrow's illinois primary. rick santorum host a -- hosted a rally today in springfield. he told the crowd mitt romney is "uniquely disqualified to beat president obama." this is just one of about 20 appearances that santorum has scheduled for today. romney is also crisscrossing the state and he's telling supporters santorum does not have the ability to help fix the nation's exe. romney is thanking volters after an overwhelming win in puerto rico's primary. he won all 20 delegates. while campaigning there, he said if elected president, he will not the -- require the island to become a state. and while they can vote in the
