tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: well, the city attorney's office is drawing up the paperwork to suspend ross mirkarimi. once those documents are served, ross mirkarimi will be out and the new candidate will be sworn in. now, sources close to this case say it's playing in the legal sphere, but it will most likely be done by politics, meaning officials say this is an election year and supervisors are worried about reelection may cave in to what the public wants. >> we're encouraging individuals to reach out to their members of the board of supervisor, either, you know,

either pro or con, whatever their decision might be. >> reporter: now, within five days, the ethics commission will make a relative humiditiation to the board of supervisors. to get mirkarimi out of office, it would take nine of the 11 votes. mirkarimi pleaded guilty of domestic violence that stemmed from an incident with his wife on new year's eve. he has said he does not believe his actions met the standard for official misconduct. we did try to get a statement from the mayor's office and the district attorney's office. everyone is remaining very tight-lipped about this. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. new at noon, a search for a biker in death valley has come to a tragic accident. authorities found george

president. jeb bush says he's backing romney. in a statement this morning, bush says it's time for the republican party to unite behind the former massachusetts governor. romney won last night's primary in illinois in a field of four major candidates. romney has half of the delegates needed to win the nomination. rick santorum has 236 delegates. nit has 135 and texas -- newt gingrich has 135 and ron paul has 50 delegates. today, new hampshire lawmakers are due to vote on making their state the first to repeal a gay marriage law through legislation. the bill would rescind a two- year old law legalizing same- sex marriage in the state. it would restore a law that allows civil union but not marriage. new hampshire's governor has said he will veto the bill if it reaches his desk. tomorrow, a same-sex couple from orinda will face a judge

on deportation charges. last year, brian willingham and alfonzo garcia were married in new york after living together for ten years. then a simple traffic stop revealed that garcia was in the country illegally. now willingham has filed a green card petition trying to keep his husband in the country. the fan of a giants' fan -- the family of a giants' fan badly beaten outside a game will be able to file a lawsuit as soon as next month whege the dodgers -- when the dodgers emerge from bankruptcy. two men have been charged in the beating. today, the city of san jose is scheduled to serve a compliance order to a woman living with hundreds of birds.

linda stewart says at some point she had 400 exotic birds filling up her home and yard. she says with the help of her family, she feeds, shelters and cares for the birds. she says they are all healthy but a bird rescue group kiss -- disagrees and they've taken their complaint to the city. the city has been coming in to people like myself and doing their best to shut us down for one reason or another. most people leave because they just can't stand this any longer. >> today's compliance order will prevent her from breeding or selling any of the birds, something stewart had planned to do to help cover the cost of their care. this sign that remembers the four oakland officers would were killed -- who were killed

approved a downtown revitalization plan after years of debate. the plan includes seven tall buildings. the height of the buildings has triggered the most controversy. four could be up to 320 feet tall. three others could be up to 380 feet tall. the city will start to receive applications for one of the tall buildings on july 1st. there are two efforts honoring four oakland police officers killed in the line of duty three years ago. today a freeway sign was unveiled on 580 honoring the four officers. the sign is near the keller avenue overpass. a paroled felon, lovell mixon, killed the officers. this morning we spotted another memorial at a small

park on sequoia and oak hill roads. the neighborhood association is inviting anyone who wants to pay tribute to stop by. divers are set to return tonight to complete work on a damaged san francisco night on the embarcadero between mission and howard street. crews have been working around the clock to fix it. the sewer line carries 80% of the waste from the northeast side of the city to a treatment plant. officials say divers were called in last night to do repairs from the inside of the pipe. >> it's a complicated repair. we have to send a dive flew in there. it's a 36-inch pipe. so we had to people crawling in there from the inside. it's not something you can do outside. you have crawl inside and seal it from inside. >> the san francisco p.u.c. says the work so far has stopped the leak, but the drivers will be back -- divers will be back to fix the leak

tonight. crews were busy capping two water main breaks. the largest broke on hollis streets. it flooded nearby streets, a parking garage and a chevron. the other break was at 7th and addison streets in berkeley. there's no word on what caused either break. a 12-hour standoff continues in france right now where police have cornered a suspect in a shooting rampage that left three children dead. authorities identified the man as 24-year-old muhammed moraw. hundreds of police have surrounded a hotel where the suspect is holed up, heavily armed and firing shots. officials say the man is an al qaeda loyalist who shot and killed three jewish children and a rabbi at a school on monday. he's also said to be responsible for the shootings of three freezing rain of paratroopers last week -- french paratroopers last week. authorities are not sure if this is related to the bombing

last week. no one was hurt in that incident. president obama is kicking off a two-day trip during which he is expected to promote his energy policies. about 30 minutes ago, mr. obama landed in nevada where he's scheduled to visit a solar power plant. the visit will allow the president to highlight his administration's efforts toward renewable energy. the president is scheduled to visit new mexico and oklahoma. this weekend, though, the president is going to attend a nuclear security summit in south korea. while there, the president will pay a visit to the demilitarized zone, that's the buffer zone between north and south korea. president obama will also meet with some of the 20,000 american troops stationed in

south korea. north korea is not attending the nuclear summit but mr. obama will meet with china's president at the summit and encourage him to use his influence to stop north korea from going through with a rocket launch planned for next month. an nfl trade this morning is sending quarterback tim tee bow broadway. he was -- tim tebow to broadway. he was traded to the new york jets. in exchange, the broncos will receive four drafts. peyton manning joined the broncos yesterday. the nfl is showing no mercy today for the na lien saints. the league is suspending sean payton and greg williams indefinitely. this is as a result of a bounty program that centered on hurting opposing players.

degrees warmer. inland, 4 to 8 degrees warmer. do we have the chance for rain? it's a slight rain, it will remain over the north bay. but you can see here this rain is sticking to the north, it's burning up against a ridge of high pressure. it will take until tonight before we finally get an opportunity and maybe sop -- at maybe some rain. it looks like overnight into tomorrow morning will be our best chance at seeing a few light scattered showers. it could arrive just in time for the morning drive. your satellite radar, if you pay close attentions you can see it. -- attention, you can see it. the time line shows us exactly when we do expect it to arrive. so we're in between the sun and the clouds for today. temperatures are gonna warm to 70 degrees in the afternoon. it's 3:00 in the morning, and we have wet roads when we wake up tomorrow. maybe a few scattered showers. it's not a lot. but it doesn't take much to slow down that morning drive and then that's it. we're drying out. friday's try. this is the big ef-- dry's dry.

and it looks like it's gonna last all day. snow levels down to about 4,000 feet for the sierra. >> thank you, mose weary. consumer reports says the newest ipad is hotter in more ways than one. the magazine reports apple's newest device can get as hot as 116 -- 160 degrees. apple says the temperature is within the safe range. it adds the reason for the higher temperature is the battery is bigger than in previous ipads. and friday is the kickoff to national unplug day. everyone is being asked to join the tech-free movement. the digital detox is scheduled to begin at sunset on friday and run until sunset on saturday. creators of the event say it's a time to get off your computers and cell phones and enjoy other activities. they see people spend too much time with gadgets and not enough time with family and friends. it's called smart skies, the bay area program that tries to attract students to the world of aviation.

there are reports hewlett- packard plans to combine its personal col putting -- computing and printing position. the wall street journal is reporting they plan to go a massive renovation. hp has struggled to keep its

core pc business profitable. stocks are moving sideways following a weaker-than- expected hole sales report -- home sales report. the three-month winter season overall was the best in five years and analysts expect better numbers as we enter the spring season. the airline industry expects to make a profit this year but it is likely to be much smaller as -- than last year as fuel costs sale. the international air transport association says the world's biggest airlines expect to earn a total of $3 billion. that's down $500 billion from last year. a group of 9th graders from san mateo high school are getting lessons in air traffic control today from the faa and nasa. the students run a field trip at the faa's oakland air route traffic control center in fremont. the trip is part of an

education project called smart skies. it aims to introduce students to air traffic control and get them interested in subjects that could lead to careers in aviation. it's nice, you know, in this computer age that they get to see the graphics. >> the students met with air traffic controllers and took turns directly turns air traffic in a simulator lab.
