a new search is underway right now in the case of a missing teenager. also new information just released. good afternoon. i'm tory campbell. we are following new developments in the search for a morgan hill teenager, sierra lamar. tara moriarty joins us now with the new evidence that was found. >> reporter: we are here at the

command post. they made the release that they discovered her purse. sierra's black and pink juicy brand purse with some clothes folded neatly inside was lying near laguna avenue. the night before, crews found her cell phone off sheller avenue. these discoveries were made less than two miles from sierra's house. >> we're going to concentrate within a three-mile radius of sierra's mom's home, looking for any evidence of a crime, clothing, tire tracks, anything that can help out in the investigation. >> reporter: volunteers are combing the field around this area and officers are using dogs to search clues. sierra is a freshman.

hear the entire -- ktvu.com to hear the entire press conference that took place less than two hours ago. in just the last 15 minutes, authorities in gilroy confirmed that a body found this morning in san benito county is that of a missing mother from a suicide-murder case. this where people living in the area discovered the body of a middle aged woman along highway 156, just north of hollister, not far from casa de fruita. officials say it is that of maureen gutierez his son killed his 121-year-old sister and then himself. they have been looking for martha gutierez believing that she had been wounded or dead. the body had an apparent gunshot wound. we have a crew on the scene and we'll bring you the latest information as it comes in.

>> walnut creek police released the sketch of a man who they say tried to lure a girl into his car. the man is described as call kiss, driving an older model red sedan. the man approached the teen and offered her a ride after she got off a bus near tyce valley boulevard. when she ran off, the man sped away. the next day shall the teen was with her friends near a school and both of them reported seeing the man sitting in his car waving at the girls the walnut creek intermediate school parents have been node fight. >> it's frightening when something like this happens, especially around here, where it's pretty safe. we get e-mail alerts from the principal of a middle school any time there is a stranger problem like this. >> police are asking anyone who recognizes the sketch to contact them. today, suspended sheriff

ross america merkiri mr.i was served papers. he was sentenced to three years probation for the fast imprisonment of his wife on new year's eve. in the meantime, vicki henessey was sworn in as interim sheriff by mayor ed lee. she is the first woman to head the department. a power outage has sapped near vallejo high school. there will be two brief outages near grown cove road and south regatta drive. claudine wong joins us now. >> reporter: you can see behind me pg&e crews hard at work. they have been working really hard to get that new pole in placement you can see the poles they took down. they say these are old poles that need to be replaced.

if you take a look real close, you can see why. work is ahead of the schedule and people say they are just trying to roll with it. >> took the dry ice on torch cardboard. >> when von hardenman found out his ice cream shop would not have power, he put the ice cream with dry ice in the freezer and closed shop. >> there is nothing i can do. having employees here would not be effective. i stayed closed and sent my employees for the day. >> reporter: hardeman said that he was warned two weeks ago that the area would be without power. the new pole sat on ann gvuveia's lawn. >> it last to be done because poles were old. so it's to our benefit in the end. it's just an inconvenience.

its entirety. mr. obama spoke in front of stacks of oil pipe in oklahoma where the southern section of the keystone pipeline would begin. it would carry oil from canada to texas. with an eye toward the november election, the president has focused on energy policy in recent weeks as gasoline prices have gone up. mr. obama's approval ratings have gone down. mitt romney has been on damage control following a comment that suggested the gop presidential front runner could reset his campaign like an etch a sketch. comment by romney's communications director has triggered stinging responses from his critics who say he is a politician capable of shifting positions. romney says that the comments were misinterpreted and he was a conservative republican governor and will be running as a conservative presidential

nominee. and women's groups protested in washington, d.c. romney plans to cut fund for planned parenthood. the protesters chanted we will remember in november. a french suspect was gunned down after a fierce gun fight with police. investigators say that 23-year- old muhammad merah was shot in the head as he jumped out of his apartment window. he was wanted in the death of three french paratroopers, three jewish school children and a rabbi. the gunman first barricaded himself inside a billing. police tried to force merah to surrender peacefully. >> and then at the end, mm jumped from the window with the weapon in his hand continuing to shoot. he was found dead on the ground. >> merah told police he belonged to al-qaeda and wanted to take revenge for palestinian children killed in the middle

east take a look at this video out of afghanistan. a u.s. army apache helicopter flies low over some buildings and doubles back and slams into the snow. amazingly, the two crew moments survived. this happened last month but the video was just released. u.s. army investigators are investigating the cause of the crash. there is speculation that the pilot may have been showing off for his fellow troops. free medical and dental care in oakland. we'll tell you what services are available. part of the bay area saw some sprinkles this morning. mark tamayo is ahead with the forecast and a man who has a very interesting but dirty job.

b.a.r.t. pilots on san francisco bay are involving in a tricky in mover. 12900-foot long msc fabiola sailed under the golden gate bridge this afternoon. pilots plan to turn around the fabiola in the bay shipping channel so it can leave the port of oakland but there is only 100 feet of clearance on

both ends. they have been training for 18 months on how to maneuver the massive ship. a deputy cleared of rape charges now plans to sue the contra costa county. he says he was a victim of a conspiracy because he ran for office. a judge dismissed the charges after ruling the prosecution failed to hand over evidence to the grand jury that could have helped clear grassette. >> volunteers are hard at work this noon time inside the oakland colyseum where free medical and dental services are being provided for hundreds of people in need. lorraine blanco was there when the gates opened up this morning and has more as services are being provide >

at the community food bank. the eggs are being donated by new cal food. it is part of a nationwide effort with the feeding america's network of foot banks. organizers say that fresh eggs are a prized items at food bank for their high nutritional value and lean protein contents. the chp now says that the car they were chasing early this morning was stolen. the chase began when a car failed to yield, just before 2:30 a.m. on castro valley. it ended less than 20 minutes later in oakland when the car finally stopped, both the passenger and driver jumped out and ran away into a nearby neighborhood. police organized a search but the two people were never found. repair crews in san francisco are wrapping up work on a sewage leak. this is video taken above ground at the embarcadero between mission and howard street. several workers spent the night patching up the leak which was first detected tuesday night.

some workers wore protective suits and brought their own oxygen supply to protect themselves against underground gasses. a diver talked about the equipment he broke, including a 2700-pound helmet. >> you have a 2700-pound clump on your heat, in addition to the pipes. so your neck muscles are straining. >> the leak was about 1000 feet below the man role cover. the sewer line airis carries 80% of the sewer. they have a potential to deliver to our customers on relionel and affordability. they have the potential to make a power outage almost as rare as a pay phone is today. >> pg&e and general motors showed off their truck today in

san francisco. it can travel 40 hours on electric power alone using advanced technology, lithium ion battery. the truck also has an onboard generator that can extend the pickup's range and can bring temporary power to neighborhoods while crews repair an outage. starting next month, anyone parking in downtown walnut creek will not have to carry change for the parking meters. walnut creek has installed 1000 new parking meters that will accept credit cards or coins. city leaders hope that the high- tech meters will allow users to use their smart phone to check for available parking spaces and pay for parking. the clouds starting to lift across the bay area. some drizzle, even a few light showers out there, looking towards the oakland estuary and san francisco in the distance. you can see some clearing skies. here is where the rainfall is. it is way up to our north as

light showers into the afternoon hours, partly cloudy skies, winds will continue to crank out of the west around 15 to 25 miles per hour. our next system scheduled to move in on saturday. early saturday morning. we are tracking some rain showers. here is the forecast models showing the dry conditions for this afternoon and tomorrow. you notice this model does increase the high clouds. and here we go. the rain moving on shore first thing saturday morning and keeping it wet off and on and the rain could be heavy at times. this afternoon, temperature, as i mentioned, in the 50s and 60s. san francisco around 5. fair field, 52 degrees. san jose tops out right around 63 and mountain view, 62. here is a look ahead at your five-day forecast with the weekend always in view. tomorrow, fairlily quiet. there is that rain cloud for saturday. like i said, the rainfall gets going first thing saturday among. rain likely into sunday. in fact, it could be pretty heavy first thing sunday morning and shower chances into

signs that china's economy is weakening and hurting u.s. stock prices. and we have reports of a possible global slowdown. the dow down 94. nasdaq down 20. s&p down 12. the news from overseas is overshadowing some good news on the u.s. jobs market. the number of people filing for initial jobless benefits sank to a four-year low. the number dropped by 5000, just 348,000. that's the lowest level since february 2008 and that's a sign that the job market is
