the murder-suicide. police were called to the home on february 29 and march 6. officers didn't think abel gutierrez was a threat. his mother reported that she was scared of her son. she was last seen tuesday, march 13. the next day police found the bodies after a murder-suicide and the mother's body was found today. to the search for the missing 15-year-old girl. the sheriff's department revealed they found sierra lamar's purse and some of her clothes. ktvu's robert handa is at the command most with what investigators are saying about this. robert? >> reporter: there has been a lot of activity here at the command post and investigators say that bag does provide important information but not much progress. >> reporter: volunteer search

and rescue workers spent the day searching fields and hills around morgan hill, for sierra lamar who disappeared friday. investigators ramped up efforts because of a bag found this weekend about two miles from the home. >> there was a bag, specifically a juicy pink-and- black purse belonging to sierra lamar that was found sunday. inside the bag was some of her clothes. paints and a t-shirt, neatly folded. >> reporter: investigators did not reveal the information because they were still confirming it was her bag. they declined to discuss any other items in the bag. >> we have to look for maces where you would conceal things and that is the job to identify those and check them and confirm there is nothing there.

chopper two is giving us a nice picture of the largest ship ever to come into san francisco bay. it is at the port of oakland it will turn around and boy, it is a tight squeeze. we expect it to take 15 minutes to complete that very narrow turn and then it will go ahead and head back out into the bay and off on its journey. news chopper 2 is live over the ship, once it starts moving we will bring it to you live right here on ktvu channel 2 news. president obama set off a war of words over the pipeline. the president pledged to put part of the project on the fast track. >> today i am directing my administration to cut through the red tape, break through the hurdles and make this project a priority. >> president obama spoke to a crowned in oklahoma. he promised to speed up

complete bay area news coverage starts right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. suspended rostare aler going o-- san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi going through a security check point today like everyone else. he has to fulfill his sentence in his domestic violence case. ktvu's david stevenson is here now with video of ross mirkarimi at the haul of justice. >> reporter: this is ross mirkarimi's first public appearance since being suspended. he had little to say.

>> reporter: he underwent a security check by the same deputies that called him sheriff two days ago. we followed him as he attended domestic violence classes. >> reporter: mayor ed lee suspended him and sworn in vikki henacy after ross mirkarimi was sentenced. ross mirkarimi says he will fight for the job. they will make a recommendation on whether he should be removed permanently. >> hopefully they will evaluate the case on the merits but it doesn't work that way, they have their own careers to think about. >> reporter: he met with his probation officer and joined a class a domestic violence
