officer involved shooting. it happened in a residential neighborhood of east 13th street. police were involved in a shooting there at 3:30 this afternoon. neighbors told us they heard police yelling and then they heard gunfire. one person was shot, no officers were injured. we are working to gather more information, as soon as we get it, we will let you know. the bod eof a missing mother was found today -- body of a missing mother was found today. ktvu's maureen naylor is live. >> reporter: we were here at this time yesterday as friends and neighbors gathered to pray for martha gutierrez's safe return, tonight they are mourning her death. >> reporter: this afternoon a friend brought a basket to the growing memorial outside the apartment arch learning the body of martha gutierrez was

found 17 miles away. >> before 10:00 a.m. this morning we received a phone call, via 911, they found a body near the area we have been at yesterday. >> reporter: forensic evidence profited a search here. her body was found under a bush with a gun shot wound. family call it a sad ending but a relief. >> i thought we weren't going to find it. it is a relief. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> closure. get to burry her. >> reporter: the discovery comes a week after the search began for her. police are trying to determine how and when she died. police say the iraq veteran shot and killed his sister and then himself wednesday into their apartment. family says problems with

posttraumatic stress disorder surfaced. >> they should have done something about it. there were so many signs. >> we made sure we had services to get him help. the family was always clear they did not fear for their lives. he did not present threat or danger to them. >> reporter: funeral arrangements are pending. maureen naylor, ktvu channel 2 news. a young man arrested in connection with the killing of a man outside his home will not stand trial right now. a judge ruled daniel dewitt is mentally incompetent to stand trial on murder charges. he killed peter cukor. he is set to be in court on april 13. if he responds to treatment he could still face a trial in the

future. police say they know of one more child who may have been molested by a nanny known as mr. johnny. john walker was arrested last week. he is facing multiple charges. the number of victims is up to 9 and investigators say they could be even more. they are intervug other children he looked after. he is being held without bail and set to appear in court april 10. a key discovery in the search for a missing teen, sierra lamar. ktvu's robert handa is live to tell us what they found and what clues it does and does not provide. robert? >> reporter: here at the command post investigators say searchers found the missing girl's purse sunday but it has not cleared up some of the key questions. the search around morgan hill ramped up today because of

a gag filled with clothes belonging to the teen was found this sunday. investigators say why they know the bag belonged to sierra lamar -- >> no information through forensics or other trace evidence on the bag or clothes leading to a person of interest or a suspect. >> reporter: the search was launched after sheas disappeared friday and investigators say the bag doesn't provide any clues that she ran away. >> because nobody saw her leave the house, we don't know if those were the clothes she was wearing. >> reporter: investigators say a review of her text messages does not indicate she was a run away. the case has become a personal one. >> cases like this where it is -- it is a young person are --

ktvu received documents given to ross mirkarimi today. they must take full responsibility for their act of violence. he was suspended monday. to a historic moment where a very delicate operation is underway. i want toot show you live -- i want to show you live pictures where four tug boats are getting ready to turn around the largest container ship to ever enter the bay. the msc fabiola arrived yesterday. it is 1200 feet long, longer than four football fields and weighs 166,000-tons. you see the area there, looks like a circular area. that is the widest point and that is where the ship will turn around. once it starts the procedure it should take 15 minutes or so. here is what is remarkable.

as it is turning around, there will only be 150 feet on either side to spare. it is a delicate operation. that is why they have been planning this for a year now. we will keep news chopper 2 over head and keep you posted. schools are getting a failing grade for educating poor and minority students. the california district report card ranks 147 school districts. palo alto scored next to last, 1.0 or a d. sacramento county was the worst with a d minus. san rafael scored the high west a c plus. -- with a c plus. the number of people seeking unemployment benefits fell to a four year low. 348,000 people filed for first time benefits last week.

that is down 5,000 from the week before and the lowest since march 2008. this is a sign the job market is strengthening. the new positive unemployment numbers didn't stop hundreds of union workers from rallying today in san francisco. a nation day of action. the economy may be improving for some but not for most union workers. law makers are taking steps to bring manufacturing jobs back to california. a panel met to craft a plan to promote high tech work. the effort is important because the state ranks first in research and development but last in investments and manufacturing. >> alternative energy, medical field, bio medical companies, talking aerospace industry and on and on and on. >> the panel is still working
