coverage starts right now. this is ktvu morning news. >> good morning. welcome to a brand new day. it's friday, march 23rd. >> good morning. thanks for joining us. let's check in on the weather today. >> no rain clouds for today. a little bit of a break in the rain. you'll notice a chill in the rain. temperatures starting out this morning in the 30s and 40s. bundle up over the next few hours. high clouds in advance of the weekend storm. i'll have more on that in a few minutes. now an update on traffic. >> good morning. 80 westbound looks good and the morning commute in san francisco along north bound 101. 6:01. let's go back to dave and pam. >> overnight news. a car involved in a serious crash in san francisco was towed away about an hour ago.

it happened in brother hood way and thomas moore way. the car slammed into a tree about 3:30 this morning and three people were taken to the hospital for treatment. the accident closed off the road for several hours. the wrecked car was towed away about 5:30 this morning after emergency crews were forced to pick up a wide stretch of debris. local authorities have help in the search for a teenager. she disappeared on her way to school one week from today. ktvu's alley joins us now. alley. >> reporter: the fbi child abduction team is now on the case. investigators were in this neighborhood yesterday evening. behind us is the 15 year old's home. this is the home she was leaving the morning she disappeared one week ago from

today. yesterday fbi agents combed through the neighborhoods and went through some of the backyards. there's a lot of farm fields around here and that's where fbi agents were searching for more evidence yesterday. she was last seen a week ago leaving from home to take the bus to school. she never arrived at high school. the sheriff told us investigators now know what she was wearing the morning she disappeared. this is information the sheriff gave us about 4:30 this morning. she took a picture of herself wearing a sharks jersey and tweeted the photo. they've interviewed 150 people and found no evidence she was abducted or foul play. now that a week's gone by the investigators and family are worried about her.

>> we've been suspicious all along. we're not closing any possibility. we don't know if it was a volunteer going away with someone or stranger abduction. we're covering every angle. >> it's baffling because there really isn't something that points strongly to either a run away or abduction. that's baffling and frustrating. >> reporter: now, investigators also found her purse she usually takes to school with her and inside, it was found in a field a mile away from her home and inside was clothing including a t-shirt. the t-shirt is the same jersey that they believe she was wearing the morning she disappeared. ktvu news. >> 6:04, happening right now, a free clinic inside the coliseum

santorum, says romney is not the one to trust. >> u.s. soldier will be formally charged today with 17 counts of murder for the killing of eight is adults and nine children. originally the number was 16 but military authorities changed that to 17 yesterday raising the number of adults killed by one. he was also accused in an incident involving alcohol and violence in washington state back in 2008 but prosecutors did not file charges in that case. we're also now learning about an effort to raise money to help pay the legal fees for sergeant bail. people who support the idea for a defense fund for him want to make sure he gets a fair trial. but the idea of a defense fund for bail also generated a lot of negative comments on line.

>> time now 6:06. video surfaced showing the commander of the narcotics enforcement team making an alleged drug deal. this video of norman welsh, you see him here in court. the undercover video shows him alistening with private investigator alegendly selling a pound of method amphetamine. he stole the drugs from a police evidence locker. they are awaiting trial on drug charges. who says you can't buy a lot with a dollar? a single dollar could possibly net you $290 million if you play the right numbers on megamillions. cathy is going to tell us about the jackpot. i see you, you've got it.

international summitt in south korea focusing on keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. he plans to make a stop at the zone that separates north and south korea and meet with 28,000 american soldiers stationed in south korea. >> thousands of dollars have been stolen at the berkeley campus over the next few months. they have stole monitors, laptops and other computers. since students and faculty work alone in the laboratory late at now say they're now concerned for their effort. an effort to ban bottled water, the store ordered more refillable water containers to encourage students to drink tap water instead. >> scientist say they have solved the mystery.

the booming noises in the wisconsin town, an earthquake hit tuesday followed by smaller swarms of quakes. it was so tiny they couldn't pick it up. the residents felt it. the town is about 40 miles from green bay. normally nobody feels a quake if it's that small but the kind of rock ins wisconsin, it turns out energy very well. >> let's check on traffic this morning. >> i just found out it's still there, there's a problem in caster valley i wanted to show you and i wanted to flip that on in a bit. let's first of all go to san francisco north bound 101. that traffic is moving along well. there are a lot more people on the commute than there were a few moments ago. the commute on interstate 880

between two women was all caught on camera in a parking lot. started with a female pedestrian punching the female driver of the mini van. the driver goes after her and runs over the woman and pins her against the wall. the pedestrian is expected to be okay but pliosaursed the driver. you might soon be able to grab a bite to eat from a food truck. this will be discussed this morning in san francisco. it allowed gourmet food trucks once a week during the summer. a hearing is scheduled today in a case involving a juror posting on facebook during a trial. a state appeals court will hear arguments over this case.

so far, this is still technically considered a missing person's case because investigators haven't found any sign of foul play or abduction. the sheriff told us this morning that the circumstances of her disappearance are suspicious. investigators have interviewed more than 150 this week. they've recovered her purse, cell phone, laptop and investigators still don't know where she could be or what may have happened to her. >> i just want her back. that's the most important thing. i want her to safely return and i want her back in my arms and i want to hear her say i love you and have a great day like we always did every morning. >> it's baffling because there really isn't something that points strongly to either a run away for abduction. it's baffling and frustrating.

>> reporter: yesterday investigators confirmed they found her purse in this field a mile away from her home. they found in it the shirt she was wearing the morning she disappeared because she took a picture of herself wearing that shirt and tweeted it. in the meantime, they are working with the class foundation and reported their daughter to the center for missing and exploited children and thinking about organizing more volunteer searchers in the coming days. live in morgan hill, alley ktvu 2 news. >> an autopsy scheduled today now that the body of a miss ing mother has been found. her body was found yesterday morning under a bush off

highway 156 near the 152 interchange. it appears she died from a gunshot wound. last wednesday police say her son, iraq war veteran shot and killed his 11 year old sister and then killed himself. >> district attorney's office is joining the investigation into a deadly police shootout. it happened yesterday afternoon at about 3:30 near hill crest and east 13th street. officers were looking for suspects in other crimes when they spotted a fugitive in a blue compact car. the police stopped them and a gun battle began. a teenage witness describes what he heard and saw. >> they said put your hands up and he fired shots at police. >> now, the suspect, 26 year

old, was shot and killed. police also arrested a 25 year old female passenger not hurt in the incident. >> time now 6:34. 25 year old is charged with shooting and killing tony and his two sons in 2008. in only son that survived the attack testified that he was the gunman. yesterday they found in some cases stressful situations can result in a made up memory. he claims he was only the get away driver, not the shooter. suspended san francisco sheriff went to orientation for his violence classes. ktvu was the only news camera that captured him undergoing a security check by the very same

the commute now. traffic is getting busier at the bay bridge. i think a lot of people who won the lottery would just give up their morning commute. people like work but not driving there in traffic. it is backed up for about a 15 minute delay getting on to the bridge. once you get on to the bridge it's a better ride on the way into the city. let's move along and take a look at the commute. the pittsburgh and bay point traffic look good. we want to show you video of an earlier crash in san francisco. this video was taken. three people taken to the hospital after their car slammed into a tree near san francisco state university. the crash happened around 3:30 this morning and closed a stretch of the road near campus for a few hours.

of the chucky cheese. they believe he went there to buy marijuana. after being shot he was able to make it to a nearby gas station for help. now, the two attackers drove away in the victim's car. it's in the surveillance video there. it's a 1990s camaro with a black roof. >> time now 6:46. the morning occupied oakland protesters. this is the sixth month of their existence. one says they responding to a call to reoccupy spaces. we don't know if they will go back to the park later today. oakland mayor says police will enforce the city's no camping rule. a free health clinic inside the oakland coliseum is open again for the second day.
