heather holmes. and i'm ken wayne. five people found dead in a san francisco house, and still many questions unanswered. the house was near city college, just steps away from ocean avenue on house street. the investigators spent the day carrying out evidence and investigating. ktvu's' john sasaki as more. >> reporter: as you can see, police guard this home here at 1600 house street. but the investigators wrapped up a second day of looking through the crime scene. for most of day two, crime scene investigators looked through the area where five people were killed. >> i worked with two of them at a company. >> reporter: this man worked with one of the family members who lived there and is presumed dead. >> a real sweet person. one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. >> reporter: investigators brought out bag after bag of evidence, even some from the home next door which we learned was also owned by the family.

>> we really can't discuss anything at this point. >> reporter: police have not released the victim's identities. the key question is whether or not this was a murder-suicide and the killer is dead or if somebody else killed everybody and is still on the loose. >> this crime if it is -- determined to be a crime, it is specific to this address. and only to this address. >> reporter: the investigators are being cagey somewhat in addressing this issue. >> they believe there is absolutely no threat to public safety. so it is concerning. >> of course. even if you -- if you wouldn't be -- well if it is not a suicide, somebody is loose then. >> reporter: this woman lives near the victims and her daughter and grandchildren live across the street. >> it is difficult to see that the children heard that -- would have that atmosphere of fear. >> reporter: the police chief told me by phone today while they still have yet to uncover a murder weapon, they are

looking at leads. live, john sasaki, ktvu news. and oakland police investigating to unrelated homicides in less than four hours. police found a young man with a gunshot wound to the head. the oakland tribune reports the boy was a 16-year-old from hayward who may have been going to a party nearby. he died on the way to the hospital. less than four hours later officers responded to shots fired at 60th street in north oakland, at san pablo avenue. a man and woman were found with gunshot wounds just before 2:00. the man was pronounced dead at the scene. the 18-year-old woman was hospitalized in serious conditions. and those looking for missing teen sierra lamar broadened their search today. we continued with ktvu's noel walker, who is live outside the command post. >> reporter: heather in the last couple of minutes, we've seen trucks like this one pull

into the command post after finishing their day of searching. i talked to a sergeant a couple of moments ago, he told me searchers found nothing today but that doesn't dim their hopes of finding sierra. under any other circumstance, spending the day strolling the blooming fields near morgan hill would be relaxing. but this is no pleasurely walk in the park. >> i need to pay attention to the dog. >> reporter: it is a deliberate, painful search for a needle in the hay stack as nine search and rescue crews look for clues in the disappearance of 15-year-old sierra lamar, last seen walking to her school bus more than a week ago. >> we go back and search for it, to decrease the chance that we have not overlooked anything. >> reporter: the sergeant is putting together the ballet of search teams, a command team making most of us tired, marking where they have been and where they're going over

the 12-mile search radius, the most extensive search yet. >> the more time without finding sierra, the more you worry. but there have been cases where we have found the person after this length of time. >> reporter: so they keep looking, and not just law enforcement. >> hello. >> reporter: today, sierra's neighbors are going door-to- door, passing out fliers and yellow ribbon, hoping to bring her home. >> if there is somebody holding her, hopefully they see her and bring her back if they have it in their hearts. but we just want to show our support and love for her. >> reporter: so these are the posters that they're putting up in sierra's neighborhood. i talked to the sergeant who says there are no plans for a search tomorrow. but that depends on the tips that come in from the public, reporting live, ktvu, noel walker. and looking for another missing bay area resident. why service members were

involved in today's search for a missing camper. we're on storm watch tonight as a slow moving system gives the bay area even more rain. the steady rainfall kept up for for most of the day. tonight, the winter weather advisory is posted for the sierra nevada. here is what it looked like on the san francisco side of the golden gate bridge. gray, drizzle, traffic was moving not high wind warnings were cancelled earlier today of the elsewhere in the city there was just enough rain to wash off some of the pollen popping up lately. not enough to add to the totals this evening. >> and steady throughout the day, ktvu has more on what parts are getting hit right now. and heather, the rainfall rates are picking up, in fact over the past two to three hours as you can see on storm tracker two radar, the bay area is mostly covered with the light shades of green. it is a small difference, but

they indicate more moderate to higher downpours. they're showing up in the south bay, this is the radar loop over the last two hours. bring on the sweep, we'll take a closer look at some of the action right now for san francisco, oakland, richmond, san rafael, and in oakland, still the downpours are just showing you the green map here, indicating moderate rainfall. shifting out to the east bay for concord, livermore, antioch, not picks up as much rain for the afternoon hours. but we'll back this map up, showing you santa cruz mountain, still picking up steady rainfall. and the yellow showing up in the south bay, san jose didn't pick up more until about 2:45 this afternoon. and rainfall will pick up in the south bay in the short term. coming up, the rain pattern you can expect for sunday, the timing of another storm, stronger one developing on a long-range picture map. and for up to the minute

weather news, be sure to visit our website at ktvu.com. and go down to the storm tracker two section for live radar. new at 6:00 tonight, san jose police say an officer opened fire at an arms man suspected in a family disturbance. police got a 911 call from a home on snow berry court around 1050 this morning, the caller said the person carrying a firearm was threatening and pushing other relatives. >> the male suspect exited the house, he pointed the gun at the officers and fired several rounds at the officers. the officers ran for cover. one of them returned fire at the suspect, didn't hit the suspect, and the suspect was able to three back inside the house. >> well again neither the suspect nor the officers were hit by gunfire, the 27-year-old suspect ran off to the back of the house. police caught up to him a few blocks away, took him into custody. and in san leandro, a suspect in the hospital after a

police standoff. >> this is the alameda county sheriff's office. come out with your hands high in the air. >> authorities say s.w.a.t. team members and a k-9 entered the home late last night. officers arrested 125-year-old edgar velazquez in the death of his girlfriend. he is currently hospitalized with dog bite wounds. the victim was found in a car yesterday, her name has not been released. and word tonight that former vp dick cheney is recovering from heart at transplant. an aide says he is recovering in falls church, virginia, the 71-year-old has been on a transplant list now for nearly two years. he suffered his fifth heart attack back in 2010. and had a special pace maker installed back in 2001. and to election news now, the polls just closed minutes ago in louisiana, we're still

waiting for the numbers to come in. but rick santorum now is declared the winner in the conservative southern states. with today's expected win, santorum skipped ahead to wisconsin where one of the next three contests will be held on april third. the pennsylvania senator spoke to voters in milwaukee, targeting the credentials. he trails mitt romney in the hunt for delegates but says he will push on in the race for the republican election. and president obama in south korea tonight for a summit on nuclear weapons. the president arrived in s korea, in the middle of plans to look into the long range missile. and paying tribute to former marin county supervisor hal brown, who decide from

. new at 6, a group of 12 u.s. marines across the country was at the pacifica this morning looking for a missing friend. they met with the pacifica police to talk about organizing new search efforts to find former marine, joseph mchenry of san bruno, earlier this month he told his family he was going camping for a few days but never returned. he was reporting missing march 5. his backpack and other items were found on the beach. those who served with mchenry in iraq say they are not giving up. >> it really means a lot to us, you know he is a brother of ours. so you know, we're not just going to leave him behind. >> and san bruno police and county officials did a search of that area earlier this month, but found nothing.

the group of marines plans to continue searching tommorow as well as monday morning. eight people dead in a house fire that followed a birthday celebration for one of the victims. officials say flames went through the house while everybody was asleep. six children, all of them under the age of eight and two adults were killed. an 18 month-old baby is now on life support. the house did not have any working smoke detectors. and others calling for action after the death of trayvon martin by a neighborhood watch captain in florida. >> put your hoodies on, your marching shoes on. >> reverend sharpton led a rally this evening. tomorrow, jesse jackson will speak in sanford, florida, where martin was shot. george zimmerman said he opened fire in self defense, a grand jury will look into the case next month. and a new group called the

black panther party is looking for zimmerman, and is offering a reward for the capture of zimmerman. zimmerman's lawyer says he is in hiding because of threats to his life, saying he was not motivated by racism. and new details on former penn state assistant coach sandusky. nbc news reports that back in 1998, a psychologist concluded that sandusky's behavior fit the profile of a likely pedophile. the psychiatrist was looking into the allegations that sandusky had inappropriate contact with an 11-year-old boy on the penn state campus. sandusky was not charged at that time. he was arrested in november and has pled not guilty to abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period. and the pope beginning a 10- day tour in mexico. >> thank you.

[cheering and applause] mexican president greeted the pope as part of his first public event in the city. the week-long visit to mexico and cuba was seen as a way to strengthen the church regarding the catholic religion. and going where no website has gone before. fortune magazine says that centerist is becoming more and more popular, doubling their use are base with 17 million signing up. and lobster bisque to be on at least one menu, the golden gate bridge district approving the contract for at least three trucks to park in the terminal, monday-friday. for special games as many as 10 trucks can set up shop there. they're set to begin at 4:00, sticking around until 7:00. the food trucks are expected to generate between 30 and 35,000

a year for the district. and returning again to storm watch, spring showers, giving the bay area quite a soaking. and in san bruno, streets were slick with rain, no reports of any major traffic problems from today's storms. this, though, is what it was like in sonoma county this afternoon, this happened in hillsburg at 3:00 on north fitch mountain road, not far from the russian river. pg&e is working to restore power to customers there. and roads cleared on the way to the sierra tonight. as you can see here at donner summit, this afternoon, interstate 80, problem-free, the storm is expected to bring a few inches to the higher elevations. and looking at the big board, all green, the rain wouldn't stop. >> the bay area covered with a blanket of green now, usually

we're talking spotty cells now, rain will continue to pick up as the front slowly heads to the the south. you can see the live storm tracker two, the front stalled out today, bringing the bulk of the rainfall for the western portions of the area, and for the northern portions of the area. right now, the latest developments with action developing in parts of the south bay and east bias well. we'll clear it out. looking at the central portions of san francisco, oakland, san francisco picking up a steady rain right now, heading out across the bay. and the changes have been in the santa cruz mountains as well as towards san jose, with the yellows, reds beginning to show up. so far, light rainfall reports, we can could still have moderate reports, closer to saratoga, we'll shift to the east, east of millpedes right now, this is slow moving, going to the south over the next four to eight hours. rainfall total, in the last 24

hours, santa rosa, .45, looking at san francisco, the front stalled out. picking up more than san francisco. half an inch of rain, adding to the number right now, redwood city, 4.2, san jose, late to the party, didn't pick up rainfall until about 2:45 this afternoon. and temperatures will be in the 40, santa rosa, at 40, livermore, 42 degrees, here is the radar and the satellite, the slow moving frontal system is expected to gradually move out to the south between now and midnight, now as a result the rainfall is still a factor, basically for the evening hours, and before gradually becoming less later tonight. a winter weather advisory in place for the sierra, this begins 5:00 tomorrow morning, the snow levels there coming down to around 3500 feet. this is not a major snow producer, but still looking at 3-5 inches. once again, the view of the pacific in that the front is still stalled out in the bay area, this will be on the move,

in fact all the energy heading towards southern california, san francisco, rain in the forecast for sunday. for us, close enough, we keep the showers in the forecast, but more occasional nature, a slight chance of thunderstorms, the local peaks could pick up snow levels, the snow up above 3500 feet. here is the updated forecast, showing you the models tonight. once again in coverage, this is early tomorrow morning, and then at 9:00, scattered showers, you get an idea of moving around the area of low pressure. this is to change, though, into -- the change into the afternoon hours, by late tomorrow afternoon, 3, 4, 5:00, that could set up a break, the forecast highs for tomorrow, on the cool side, fifths, san jose, 55, and looking ahead, the five-day forecast. you will notice monday, that is a break day, but we could be tracking heavy rain, especially up in the north bay by tuesday, rain likely wednesday, chance of showers thursday, so still, heather and ken, a fairly active weather pattern over the
