about to announce a significant update in the mysterious deaths of five people. something we have been following for you since friday. that is when those bodies were discovered in the home. that is near city college in the ingleside strict. as of yesterday police did not know if the crime scenes with a combination of perhaps a murder- suicide or if the killer is on the loose. they were still looking for the murder weapon, of course this was yesterday when they updated us. at least four of the victim we're told were related, three women and two men and an unknown number were shot to death. yesterday investigators brought out bag after bag of evidence and even some from the home next door, when que learned was also owned by the family. police did assure the public that the crime was specific to that home, but they would not say why. even so neighbors have been worried calling the situation and atmosphere of fear. we want to join the press

conference at the hall of justice with police chief greg suhr. >> commander off investigations, et cetera. we have made an arrest in the homicide investigation. the arrest was made early this morning. the investigation continues. it is ongoing. i want to continue to reassure the public that this incident was specific to 16 street. he want to thank everyone who has helped with this investigation. from the beginning, on friday morning, we have gotten everything that we have asked for from anyone. the fire department's first- responders and medical examiners on scene and assisted with the initial investigation, were absolutely terrific. those

members of the department of public health and critical response team reached out to the neighborhood to see what could about be done for them coping with this tragedy and provided additional and valuable assistance. the mayor's office was there with us on friday morning serving as our liaison to the high school their students and parents, we thank you and to the members of sfpd, simply unbelievable. working around the clock to make this case and included, but are not limited to crime scene investigations, ingle side station investigators, crime investigations unit robbery detail, the violence response team and our tactical teams. this was a complex crime scene. on friday morning in responding, we found five deceased persons apparently from blunt trauma. we really didn't know what we

had. we had four separate homicide scenes within the residence. we immediately initiated our task force response that has been very effective over the last ten months in calling officers from all sections of the police department to contribute what they might to this investigation. over 40 investigators have been involved in this case since friday. homicide investigators and csi technicians responded immediately to the scene for processing. they were supported in the hours to come by the crime scene investigations unit and robbery to investigate any possibility this was a home- invasion robbery. gang task force was there to investigate any gang-related angles. the special victims unit to investigate any domestic or mental health issues. without them, this investigation would not have been able to continue 24/7 around the clock as the homicide investigators got

little what much-needed sleep. our s.w.a.t. teams coordinated the tactical entry into two locations. again, i want to thank all of the asset pd investigators who contributed to this case, too numerous to name individuals or really would name every one of them now. i can't begin to tell you how proud i am to be the san francisco police department's police of chief. i will pass it over to the investigations to give you further detail as to what took place over the last 48-somewhat hours. >> thank you, chief. during the early morning hours of friday, march 23rd, five individuals were tragical murdered in the ingle side district of san francisco. the medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death, and the identification of these victims. for the first 48 hours of this

case homicide investigators along with a host of various police officers and investigators from the different disciplines in our department worked tirelessly to put this case together. homicide has made an arrest, a resident of san francisco and he has been charged with five counts of murder. search wants have been served in san francisco and san mateo. homicide inspectors will continue to follow on all investigative heeds while crime scene investigators collect and process evidence taken from the scene. i want to take this opportunity first and foremost to thank the men and women of this department that worked so tirelessly on this case and continue to work so hard on this case and i'm so proud of the men and women who work in this department who have come forward. thank you

trayvon martin claimed to have seen a person in a hoody straddling a man in a read red sweater who called out for help. >> the guy on the bottom, who i believe had a red sweater on was yelling to me help and help and i called 911. when i hooked down, the person who was on top, beating up the other guy was the one laying in the grass and i believe he was dead. >> police say zimmerman was wearing a red sweater that day and he had injuries. >> reverend jesse jackson demanded zimmerman's arrest and demanding change. >> trayvon was an innocent. he is smart. he has got loving parents.

. recapping or stop story we brought you live just a few minutes ago san francisco police announced they have had made an arrest in the kel of five people. ben luck now faces five counts ever murder. the victims were discovered friday morning at a home on howth street near city college in the ingleside district. kevin pritchett will bring us a live report at 5:30. ktvu has just learned the klaas foundation is looking for volunteers to safeco for sierra lamar. marc klaas says those searches start tuesday and says police asked his group to hold off on conducting anymore searches until deputies finished their own. today a group searched the roadside where lamar's purse and cell phone were discovered.

. a non-profit group dedicated to preserving marin county state parks is now willing to operator china camp and olompali park. because of the state's budget troubles, the marin state parks association is raising money and working to develop a plan to take over operations at those two parks. the group sent a letter of intent to the superintendent of marin state parks and that letter was approved by the superintendent, who then sent it on to sacramento for review. 70 of california's 278 state parks are slated to be closed this summer. you know, huey lewis and the news shot at china park. >> who knew? >> rock'n'roll history. >> she nice.

ken, san francisco police chief again suhr said today ever since those victims were found there has been an exhaustive search and investigation underway, more than 40 investigators involved. we did leave that press conference just about half an hour ago and here is what the chief had to say. >> we have made an arrest in the howth street homicide investigation. the arrest was made early this morning and the investigation continues. it is ongoing. i want to continue to reassure the public that this incident was specific to 16 howth street. >> reporter: the suspect now in custody is 36-year-old binh thai luc a resident of san francisco, who was arrested this morning according to the chief. police will not say where he was arrested, but the s.w.a.t. team was involved in the two search washingtons one in san francisco and one in san mateo. the chief says the suspect has a connection to the people who were killed in that house and that he has a prior criminal
