about to announce a significant update in the mysterious deaths of five people. something we have been following for you since friday. that is when those bodies were discovered in the home. that is near city college in the ingleside strict. as of yesterday police did not know if the crime scenes with a combination of perhaps a murder- suicide or if the killer is on the loose. they were still looking for the murder weapon, of course this was yesterday when they updated us. at least four of the victim we're told were related, three women and two men and an unknown number were shot to death. yesterday investigators brought out bag after bag of evidence and even some from the home next door, when que learned was also owned by the family. police did assure the public that the crime was specific to that home, but they would not say why. even so neighbors have been worried calling the situation and atmosphere of fear. we want to join the press

conference at the hall of justice with police chief greg suhr. >> commander off investigations, et cetera. we have made an arrest in the homicide investigation. the arrest was made early this morning. the investigation continues. it is ongoing. i want to continue to reassure the public that this incident was specific to 16 street. he want to thank everyone who has helped with this investigation. from the beginning, on friday morning, we have gotten everything that we have asked for from anyone. the fire department's first- responders and medical examiners on scene and assisted with the initial investigation, were absolutely terrific. those

members of the department of public health and critical response team reached out to the neighborhood to see what could about be done for them coping with this tragedy and provided additional and valuable assistance. the mayor's office was there with us on friday morning serving as our liaison to the high school their students and parents, we thank you and to the members of sfpd, simply unbelievable. working around the clock to make this case and included, but are not limited to crime scene investigations, ingle side station investigators, crime investigations unit robbery detail, the violence response team and our tactical teams. this was a complex crime scene. on friday morning in responding, we found five deceased persons apparently from blunt trauma. we really didn't know what we

had. we had four separate homicide scenes within the residence. we immediately initiated our task force response that has been very effective over the last ten months in calling officers from all sections of the police department to contribute what they might to this investigation. over 40 investigators have been involved in this case since friday. homicide investigators and csi technicians responded immediately to the scene for processing. they were supported in the hours to come by the crime scene investigations unit and robbery to investigate any possibility this was a home- invasion robbery. gang task force was there to investigate any gang-related angles. the special victims unit to investigate any domestic or mental health issues. without them, this investigation would not have been able to continue 24/7 around the clock as the homicide investigators got

little what much-needed sleep. our s.w.a.t. teams coordinated the tactical entry into two locations. again, i want to thank all of the asset pd investigators who contributed to this case, too numerous to name individuals or really would name every one of them now. i can't begin to tell you how proud i am to be the san francisco police department's police of chief. i will pass it over to the investigations to give you further detail as to what took place over the last 48-somewhat hours. >> thank you, chief. during the early morning hours of friday, march 23rd, five individuals were tragical murdered in the ingle side district of san francisco. the medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death, and the identification of these victims. for the first 48 hours of this

case homicide investigators along with a host of various police officers and investigators from the different disciplines in our department worked tirelessly to put this case together. homicide has made an arrest, a resident of san francisco and he has been charged with five counts of murder. search wants have been served in san francisco and san mateo. homicide inspectors will continue to follow on all investigative heeds while crime scene investigators collect and process evidence taken from the scene. i want to take this opportunity first and foremost to thank the men and women of this department that worked so tirelessly on this case and continue to work so hard on this case and i'm so proud of the men and women who work in this department who have come forward. thank you

this developing story, and arrest has been made in the death of five people in the inningside district. those deaths happening on friday. in other news the shooting death of a florida teenager trayvon martin has caused outrage nationwide and that emotion was felt in churches across the bay area. ktvu's maureen naylor with more on the widespread show of solidarity. >> reporter: the music was typical of the bible way christian center's sunday service, but what happened next was not? >> we want a moment of silence. >>. >> reporter: a moment of silence from a congregation asked to wear hooded sweatshirts the same clothing that the florida teenager was wearing when he was shot and killed binate watch captain who told dispatchers that "the teen looked suspicious." in san josi they prayed for an end too racial profiling and many angry that no arrests have been made. >> it stirs up a sense of

righteous indignation, that we are looking for justice and we're looking for fairness and we're not having it. >> it didn't just hit people where he lived, but hit people in oakland, people like me. >> reporter: at leaven temple baptist church the pastor delivered his sermon in a sweatshirt had ice tead and skittles, which trayvon martin was holding when he was shot. >> as a christian woman, my heart goes out to them, but to the entire community, including the man who now has to deal with the responsibility of taking a young man's life. >> reporter: one church leader said while some may question if church is such a place to make such a statement, they are simply doing what they feel is right. . a man claiming to have witnessed trayvon majorityin as

trayvon martin claimed to have seen a person in a hoody straddling a man in a read red sweater who called out for help. >> the guy on the bottom, who i believe had a red sweater on was yelling to me help and help and i called 911. when i hooked down, the person who was on top, beating up the other guy was the one laying in the grass and i believe he was dead. >> police say zimmerman was wearing a red sweater that day and he had injuries. >> reverend jesse jackson demanded zimmerman's arrest and demanding change. >> trayvon was an innocent. he is smart. he has got loving parents.

he is sober. he is innocent. he represented all of us. he made trayvon a martyr. >> federal prosecutors are still considering to bring hate- crime charges against the shooter, george zimmerman. on one 911 call zimmerman muttered something under his breath that some think was a racial slur and others can't make out. several friends and family have come forward to defend zimmerman including his parents, who say he is not racist. san leandroo police are investigating a shooting outside of a sportsbar that seriously injured a man outside of pagano's bar. officers arrested dario trevino minutes later and he is held on suspicious of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. sver's condition has not been released. >> police in foster city are

investigating the shooting of a suspected trespasser or burglar. after reports of noise and tampering with doors, police arrived and found a 24- year-old san mateo man with gunshot wounds of the police identified the shooter as a friendwood man in his 40s. neither mabhas been arrest there is new at 5:00 the calendar may say spring, but it looks like winter in some parts of the bay area. ktvu's janine de la vega at mount hamilton. >> reporter: most people that we encountered here have no clue this is private property and snow play is not prohibited there. are plenty of signs saying that, but the observatory is now going to start taking trast drastic measures. he shows us the yellow tape roping off access roads. >> we had to ban any parking

. recapping or stop story we brought you live just a few minutes ago san francisco police announced they have had made an arrest in the kel of five people. ben luck now faces five counts ever murder. the victims were discovered friday morning at a home on howth street near city college in the ingleside district. kevin pritchett will bring us a live report at 5:30. ktvu has just learned the klaas foundation is looking for volunteers to safeco for sierra lamar. marc klaas says those searches start tuesday and says police asked his group to hold off on conducting anymore searches until deputies finished their own. today a group searched the roadside where lamar's purse and cell phone were discovered.

in just an hour a vigil will be held at the crossroads christian center in morgan hill for sierra hamar. we'll bring you more on the story tonight on the 10:00 news. we now know the name of the man under arrest after an officer-involved shooting in san josi. police say 27 -year-old 27 caesare lazzarino. in san francisco a man is dead after a muni bus accident this morning on filmore. muni officials can't confirm exactly what happened, but witnesses say the man jumped in front. bus. he died at the scene. an iraqi woman found severely beaten her el cajon

home was died. alawadi was taken off life support her daughter found her unconscious in her home on wednesday. mother of five was beaten with a tire iron. found next to her was a note that said, "go back to your country." a police spokesman says the family received another threatening note earlier this morning. police are looking into whether the killing was a hate-crime. in washington, d.c., this week's supreme court argument only president obama's health care law. the court will hear three days of argument on issues whether congress can require every american to buy health insurance and whether states must expand medicaid coverage. a white house advisor said once the law is fully implemented americans will like the results. >> what people like you and i say about it won't patter. it's what people's experience and very positive and notice what people fear. what people don't want to do, they don't want to refight this political battle. >> 26 states are challenging

ken, san francisco police chief again suhr said today ever since those victims were found there has been an exhaustive search and investigation underway, more than 40 investigators involved. we did leave that press conference just about half an hour ago and here is what the chief had to say. >> we have made an arrest in the howth street homicide investigation. the arrest was made early this morning and the investigation continues. it is ongoing. i want to continue to reassure the public that this incident was specific to 16 howth street. >> reporter: the suspect now in custody is 36-year-old binh thai luc a resident of san francisco, who was arrested this morning according to the chief. police will not say where he was arrested, but the s.w.a.t. team was involved in the two search washingtons one in san francisco and one in san mateo. the chief says the suspect has a connection to the people who were killed in that house and that he has a prior criminal

record. the victims were found by a family member early friday morning. that person discovered three victims upon entering the house an police upon arriving discovered two more. even this morning crime scene investigators were out at that scene on 16 howth street in the ingleside district. the cause of death remains unknown. >> the medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death, and the identification of these victims. >> reporter: chief suhr did say that the victims suffered some sort of blunt force trauma. they are not sure by which weapon. they have not recovered that women and the chief also said there was an edged weapon involved. he was no more specific than that, but an example of an edged weapon could be a knife or anything with a blade on it. obviously, there are a lot of pieces of this puzzle, a lot more investigation that needs to take place. until san francisco, ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. thank you ken for that update. wee now down to the final 4 in march madness and we'll tell
