rain. scattered showers. mostly cloudy. highs on the mild side. we are starting off at 54. if we get sun temperatures will -- mostly cloudy. here is sal. within the past hour tow trucks removed this van. the driver told us he lost control as he tried to overcorrect and went off the roadway. this was on northbound 880 onramp. it happened just before 2:00. it was quite an operation there to get the truck out. looking at live pecktures highway 4 westbound you can see the traffic is moving along pretty well. but as steve mentioned a little bit of rain moving through some of the areas. it's going to be raining. windshield wipers the whole thing. give yourself a little extra time if you can. the morning commute is looking pretty good if you are driving to the bay bridge.

at 4:30 let's go back to the desk. >> the rain is letting up. a powerful spring storm is causing problems. some people are waking up at the airport. tara. >> reporter: a lot of the flights that were delayed seem like they are back on track. we only noticed two flights that were canceled. we did as you mention though catch several people taking cat naps before their flights. many had been stranded overnight. severely backlogging the flight scheduled. many people avoided the hassle by calling ahead. for some the wait was unavoidable. >> it was a long trip. getting a delay was kind of a

[ inaudible ] >> reporter: according to the national weather service. showers are expected into mid- morning but not expected to create anymore major problems for travelers. live at sfo i'm tara moriarty. overnight crews worked to remove a large tree that came crashing down in the oakland hills. this is the scene along shepard canyon road at iowa kin drive dakin drive. no one was hurt. crews did have to use a chain saw to get rid of the tree. in the north bay a tree came crashing down on to a house briefly trapping the people inside. now according to firefighters it happened at 7:00 last night on cascade drive.

everybody inside the home is okay. the tree also crushed a car parked in the driveway and took down power lines. neighbor say et sound like a jet taking off. they thought there had been an earthquake. the stormy weather also caused thunder benders overnight. a pickup truck rear ended another car at 14th and alice. that happened shortly before 11:00 last night. the ambulance took the driver of the car with minor injuries. it was raining heavily when an 18 wheeler overturned in castro valley last night. all lanes reopened at 12:30 this morning. for more than four hours three lanes were blocked while crews uprighted the truck and cleaned up the desill fuel. he lost control after being cut off by another car. no one was seriously hurt in that accident. the truck was carrying medical supplies. you can always go to ktvu.com

for updates. you can find information about flight delays and our live storm tracker two radar. 4:33. the suspect in last nights murder in san francisco is scheduled to make his first court appearance yesterday afternoon. prosecutors are charging convicted felon ben tie luck with five counts of murder with special serks. that would make him eligible for the death penalty if found guilty. there are still several critical questions surrounding the killings including whether the suspect acted alone. >> the ability for the suspect to carry out necessary crime would depend on the sequence of which he carried it out. we are working with the medical examiner to figure out the various times of death. >> police found five members inside a home near san francisco city college friday morning. they believe the victims knew

the suspect and let them into his house but there is still no official word of the notice. a private funeral will be hell in gilroy for three family members that died in an apparent murder/suicide. it begins at 10:00 this morning. police say he kill his mother, an 11-year-old sister before taking his own. investigators say he had signs of a post-traumatic stress discorder. grief counselors will be at a hayward middle school following the death of a 14- year-old student. scoot officials say he was playing basketball in a pe class yesterday morning when he hit his head and suffered a

seize seizure. the search for sierra lamar is intensifying. more than six million volunteers have been looking for her. for the first time detectives now say they believe sierra lamar was abducted and did not run away from home. they will continue searching every day through sunday. >> we just got to put our foot down as community and say people are not going to take our kids like that. we have to find out what is going on. >> the search for sierra lamar will begin at 8:00 this morning. suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is looking to get his job back. he says he should be reinstated

but that incident happened before he was sworn in as sheriff. he is asking the judge to rule before the city's misconduct hearing. coming up at 4:47 mitt romney's campaign hit by thieves. the items stolen. 4:36. a judge will hear arguments today on whether to release a report examining uc davis police. now last november you might remember campus police were photographed spray into the faces of occupy protestors. they are committed to releasing the entire report. but police officers claim disclosing their names and confidential personnel information would violate state laws protecting peace officers rights. two weeks ago the judge ordered those sections sealed until he issues a final ruling.

one bay area businessman may be cheering for the los angeles dodgers. peter gruber is teaming up with others including magic johnson to buy the dodgers. they have offered $2 billion for the stadium. that is a record for any pro team. mega million players will be competing for a record breaking jackpot in this friday's drawing. the jackpot grew to $476 million after no one matched all of last nights numbers. each of those tickets worth at least $250,000. the winning numbers are -- all right 4:38 is the time

right now. we got a lot of rain last night. >> we do have flooding on highway 121 in the same spot he had last night between 116 and arnold drive there and highway 12 area. otherwise we are off to a pretty decent start. let's take a look at the pictures we have now. traffic continues to move along relatively well driving into oakland. bay bridge toll plaza from our emery vail camera. the traffic is looking good. not quite as busty wind or not as much gusty wind. as you drive across the bridge. and this morning if you are driving on northbound 280 that looks good getting up to highway 17. no problems on 17 although a lot of debris reported as you drive on 17 from the storm. tree branches that kind of

snow. that is making for treacherous conditions up in the mountains. drivers facing poor visibility. take a look at that shot and slippery roads. one truck you can see spun out on an embankment. we just checked with cal tran and chains are required on both 50 and 80 today. the storm is also being blamed on a fire of an oakland power pole. this was seen on cleveland street. fire officials say a wire came down during the storm. once mg excut off the electricity firefighters were able to put the flames out. electrical wires caused problems in another part of oakland. three ac transit passengers were stranded after a live wire came down on top of their bus. firefighters helped the passengers get off the bus making sure no one touched the bus and the ground at the same

time. this morning a jet blue pilot that suffered a meltdown during a flight is in the hospital for examination. cell phone video captured the unidentified captain being wrestled to the floor by passengers. he ran through yelling about bombs, 9/11 and al qaeda. >> he said something we heard the word like they are going to bomb us. other people heard him say something about iraq and afghanistan. >> off duty pilot who was a passenger on the flight luckily was there to help land that plane safely. the captain had a medical situation. commercial pilots must pass the mental and florida exam. they are accusing the fbi

of spike on bay area muslims. the aclu says the fbi gathered information about bay area mosques. now the group says federal agents took note on muslim leaders and worshipers they met at muslim mosque. the spying took place during 2004 and 2008. time now 4:47. federal prosecutors filed paper work saying that kendra dirkey embezzled $7 million from political candidates. the amount is nearly ten-times more than the initial charges against dirkey which were filed last year. she will plead guilty to five counts of fraud and could face up to 14 years in prison. in election news this morning republican presidential

candidate newt gingrich is cutting back his campaign because of money problems. gingrich laid off one-third of his staff and asked his campaign manager to resign. the campaign will focus on using low cost social media to get his message out and a new strategy to prevent mitt romney from winning. we are also now learning ahead of mitt romney's campaign appearance on monday, two laptops and two ipads belonging to his staffers were stolen from a rented suv. a romney spokesperson said it contains sensitive campaign information but it apierce to have been a random theft. this is the third and final day of oral sergeantment -- arguments at the supreme court. the issue today is whether the rest of the law could survive if the requirement of everyone has health insurance is struck down. constitutional law experts have

the deadly wild fire in colorado may have been started from a control burn. the state forestry conducted a routine control burn last thursday. by monday hundreds of acres were on fire. not clear if the wild fire started in that controlled burn zone but it is being investigated. the fire destroyed at least 23 buildings and may have caused the death of two people. passengers on a greyhound bus were forced to make a very quick exit. the driver quickly rushed them off after the bus caught fire just blocks before arriving at their station. the bus driver says another driver behind him saw smoke pouring out of the back of the bus and pounded on the window to tell him. the driver says it looks like a mechanical failure caused that fire. >> san francisco muni fares could go up next year burr the price would still be cheaper
