deaths. christien kafton has more. >> reporter: i was in the courtroom when the judge barred -- ruled that our cameras were allowed to record the proceedings but not our face. the public defender requested that his office represent them. but the prosecutor objected because the prosecutor represented luc's brother and the judge removed adachi from the case. >> we believe the judge's decision was wrong and she didn't follow the law. >> reporter: luc is still face -- is still facing homicide

charges. >> i'm very new to the case. based upon the charges, the initial concern would be that he's charged with a multiple homicide. she's charged with special circumstances which make him eligible for the death penalty. >> reporter: luc is scheduled to be formally charged and will be entering a not guilty plea on april 5th. meanwhile, jeff adachi said at a news conference immediately following the hearing that he will be appealing the judge's decision. that appeal is expected to come within a week. now david stevenson is following all of these rapid new developments on this case and we'll have the latest for you at 5:00 and 6:00. if you are still looking for updates throughout the day, check out ktvu.com and mobile ktvu for updates, again,

appearance. the sheriff's office is if he cussing on areas -- office is focusing on areas near her home. the k-9 dogs plan to scour the lake for many volunteers who want to find the girl. this case hits home for some. >> this case just tricks you -- strikes you in the heart. you need to help in some way. >> investigators say sierra was likely abducted by someone from or familiar with the morgan hill area. another vigil is scheduled for the missing teen tonight. san francisco police are investigating a serious accident that accident a bicyclist and a pedestrian to the hospital. this was in the castro district. witnesses told police the bicyclist may have run a red light. the bicyclist was also hurt but is expected to survive. authorities are still trying to determine how a woman was

seriously injured in downtown san francisco. she was lying in the street at howard and beale streets. officers say witnesses saw a muni bus go through the intersection right before the woman was found. the victim was in her 60s. she's hospitalized with life- threatening injuries. at least three people were arrested during a u cl. regents meeting in san francisco. >> there's more than 100,000 workers out here and -- [ cheers ] >> almost 50 demonstrators attended today's meeting. many blasting the uc leaders during the public comment portion of the meeting. the "l.a. times" reports some of the demonstrators tussled with officers before the arrest. midnight. a full report coming up later in the newscast. well, it's official. within the past hour, paperwork was filed in the last half-hour to raise minimum rage. here's more. >> reporter: a short time ago, a group of students took a major step toward increasing the minimum wage in this city and they say they've collected enough signatures for the ballot. they say it's a civil rights issue and that's why they gathered around the statues, who -- who raised their fists during the olympics. and following in the footsteps of myth and carlos, the students took off their shoes and marched toward city hall about an hour ago.

they delivered about 30,000 signatures. it's a plan that would set the minimum wage at $10 in san jose. that would push it up from the state's requirement of $8 an hour. this all started and then community and labor groups jointed the effort. students decided working groups need too earn too -- need to earn more. >> amazing. empowering. we need to make this a reality. >> that's what teachers are advocating. get out there. did what you learn in your education and make a difference. it's really inspiring to see that we were able to see -- you know, reach the number within the short amount of time. >> this is not just a student issue. this is a community issue. >> it is. >> but of course, there's some opposition to this plan. a short time ago, the silly done valley -- silicon valley
