>> reporter: it's unclear how to tell how the do not track tool would work. >> a pennsylvania man faces federal charges tonight for allegedly trying to bring explosives above a u.s. airways flight. joseph picklo had things that could assemble a bomb when he went through security. he reportedly told tsa he forgot the items were in his backpack. he'll be charged with carrying explosives to a security checkpoint. a concord man is under arrest, accused of stealing firefighter tools and equipment from a training center. steve wright was arrested yesterday. it linked him to a string of burglaries. investigators believe wright stole the items last july and again this month.

>> we learn today a southern california lawmaker was arrested tuesday morning in conquered on suspicion of drunk driving. hernandez said he was visiting a friend while having a few drinks during dinner. as of now, there's no proof he tested above the legal limit. the state assembly today announced a half million allocation of funds for a job bank for veterans. it's called work for warriors. the jobless rate among national guardsman and women is about 18%. guard officials say unemployment is among its biggest problems >> the last 10 minutes of fighting a conflict around the globe, our soldiers and airmen have stepped up to the plate when the state needs them. when they return home, they're having a terrible time finding jobs.

>> a judge today appointed a private defense attorney to represent the man accused of killing 5 people inside a san francisco home. the judge named mark goldrosen as luc's attorney. he asked for a week to review the case before his client enters a plea. he assured him he'll get the best representation. >> a teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges he had sex with a student. 38-year-old peter had several sexual encounters with a 16-year-old goals. he faced 20 charges. he's set to return to court may 10th. >> a measure aimed at ending sex trafficking has collected enough signatures to qualify for the november ballot. californians say the proposed

legislation will increase prison terms for traffickers and will require them to register as sex offenders. it will also make them disclose their internet accounts. >> one of the things we're trying to do is make it more difficult for it to flourish among sex offenders. >> the hoodie protest honoring trayvon martin reached sacramento today. california lawmakers wore hooded sweatshirts inside the assembly today. the demonstration was organized by the black latino and pacific islander caucuses. they ordered the man who shot him be charge would a crime. his parents said police surveillance video casts doubt on the claim that he acted in

self-defense. police have said zimmerman's nose and head were bleeding. the teen's parents say zimmerman does not look injured in the video taken shortly after the incident. >> startling new research on autism reveals a dramatic increase in youngsters with the neurological disorder. what doctors now know, and what they don't know. john? >> this naib --neighborhood may be typical now, two families with autistic children, aiden, who lives here, is one of about 30,000 bay area children diagnosed with autism. two hours ago, nine-year-old aiden stepped off the bus. he goes to a special school. his mom says he was diagnosed at two years old. >> he was 26 months. didn't talk. through -- threw tantrums all day long. screamed, cried. he was miserable.

i couldn't reach him. >> reporter: 1 in 88 children now have diagnoseable autism. that's a startling increase in a decade. >> there's a sense of urgency now. >> how much of the increase is a result of better tracking and how much of it is the result of an actual increase? we still don't know. >> scientists discovered several genes associated with autism. experts point to external triggers. >> we're talking about infections, social conditions, and we're talking about exposures to toxicants, things in the environment. >> intensive treatment, if begun early, can significantly help children. the problem is, autism-related costs have tripled in a decade. now $126 billion a year, according to the advocacy group, autism speaks. >> something's got to be done now. we have a national crisis.

through the next 30, about 24 hours. then it starts to slide south on saturday. as we go through saturday, we can see rainfall accumulations up to three-quarters of an inch, 2 inches in the coastal hills. so it's a real storm and it's going to get here saturday morning. overnight lows are on the mile side. when you get going tomorrow morning, 50s. some places, mid 50s. look at the fire hose. flood warnings up in that area, the river had problems a few days ago. tomorrow, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. that's mainly north. this weather system has its main dynamics north of point reyes. we're kind of on the bottom half of the front. we'll get rain and wind. but the real activity is up here. we can see a half inch

to three-quarters of an inch of rain. tomorrow morning when you get going, friday morning clouds and drizzle. mainly north. then afternoon commute should be dry. look how it hangs up here. then overnight friday, in to saturday, you're going to see this, the system start to drop down as we get in to saturday morning, 1 a.m. about 9 a.m. on saturday, it's through quick and then scattered showers after that. so saturday, 5:00, more scattered showers. right now sunday should be the best day on your bay area weekend. winter storm watch friday night in to saturday night. 7,000-foot snow level. as we head in to saturday, the snow level is going to drop down quickly. the front pass is through. behind the cold front is the coldest air. behind the cold front, that's when the air is the coolest. that's when the snow levels will really drop.
