you can't start the day without knowing what the weather is like. steve paulson knows. we have mostly cloudy skies but once that burns off, this system is moving north. today looks mostly sunny and it's partly cloudy now. that's going to get temperatures to warm up. i think south and upper peninsula to low 70s. here asocials. traffic is moving along on 237 as you cross 880. you can see traffic looks good here. no major problems. also, the morning commute is moving well in san jose. we're off to a nice start. the freeway traffic looks good on 280 northbound, getting up to highway 17. now, let's go back to the desk. >> time now, 6:01. we have developing news coming in from san francisco. a homicide investigation happening right now. police found the body of a man underneath the bay bridge. the ktvu's alex savage has been

there since this morning. you have new information in the last 30 minutes? >> well, this is a man that was found murdered this morning. that's what san francisco police are confirming. beyond that, not a lot of details. this all unfolded on main street between bryant and harrison. sources telling us this morning that the victim in this case is some sort of a utility worker. we have video of what looks to be a pg&e van that's parked right next to the area where the body is. a short time ago, we talked with a representative from pg&e who told ktvu the man killed this morning was not one of their employees. that's what pg&e told us this morning. now, we also shot this video as well. homicide investigators are trying to find witnesses, potential witnesses in this neighborhood. we saw them speaking with a homeless man that was speaking with them in a tent. i spoke with a security guard

at one of the nearby condo complexes. i was told there are surveillance cameras, but at this point it's unclear if those cameras -- if investigators are looking at that video, trying to help them in that investigation. what we can confirm this morning is the san francisco police found a man that was shot and killed. obviously the investigation is ongoing here. no arrests have been announced so far by police. we're live in san francisco, sex savage, ktvu news. crews in san leandro are working on power lines downed by a woman who hit a pole with her car. here is a live picture at the scene. still a lot of work to do. police had to shut down the area so pg&e could cut the

electricity. two nearby businesses were affected. your time is 6:03. there's been an arrest with a berkley murder. a man was shot to death at sacramento and oregon street. the unidentified victim walked out of the store with another man and then was confronted by several suspects and one of them started shooting. we don't know who has been arrested or the possible motive for that attack. >> hazardous team was called into newark after a report after an explosion. that happened last night at about 10:40 at evergreen oil at smith avenue. now, the alameda fire department says some sort of chemical reaction caused a lid of a 55-gallon drum to pop off. then gas leaked out of the drum. six other drums were sitting at a warmer than usual temp. >> we cooled off the drums and

figured out what was in the barrels and isolated them from other containers. it took us a while. has, a large explosion injured one employee at this same plant. evergreen has been fined at least ten times since 2010 for odor releases. the presidential candidates, all of them are campaigning in wisconsin, ahead of tuesday's primary there. the big endorsement that one of the candidates is getting today from a popular wisconsin politician, coming up. and rick santorum brought his campaign and sense of humor right here to the bay area yesterday. now, this was at a private home in alamo, but santorum was also in fairfield at the jelly bell lee factory. he often compared himself to ronald reagan who made jelly

a woman driver was taken to the hospital after she crashed her car into a pole in the san pablo area. it happened this morning in the area of san pablo avenue. the crash knocked out power to a few people in the area. it will take several hours before all the wiring and cables are restored. 6:08, let's go to steve. thanks, sal. a happy friday. mostly cloudy skies. most of the clouds will be clearing out by noon and sunny and warm later today. the system is there packing a lot of moisture, but it's lefting northward until it slides south on sunday. it's holding a plum of moisture extending out into the pacific. today, some rain way to the north, but mostly sunny, partly cloudy and kind of muggy, humid today for us until that system cranks up on saturday. rain will develop and wind will be developing rapidly by

washington, dc, allison burns, ktvu. 6:15. we're getting news about the federal -- federal agents shot and wounded a man wednesday afternoon. officials believe 19-year-old denarcy hutchinson was trying to sell a grenade launcher. two other men have been arrested. officials said a grenade launcher was not found at the scene. our investigation is raising questions about oakland's 100-block plan. now, the city confirms the police department has not devoted any special resources to the crime fighting strategy. mayor jean quan has failed to pinpoint the blocks or if there are 100 of them. >> i requested a briefing two month ago. she responded promptly. she did show me the map but took them away. i was not ayou allowed to keep

copies of them due to the sensitivity of operations planned there. >> oakland city leaders have provided this map, highlighting general areas in the east and west parts of town. now, mayor quan could not be reached for comment, but the staff says the 100-block plan focuses on various agencies. time now, 6:16, a privacy breach. information was lost during a disaster drill that involves california child support system. now, this affects 8,000 people. it includes addresses, health care providers, and social security numbers. now, four computer cartridges were not properly secured. they may have spilled out while they were being transported by fedex. this breach will not affect the

processing of child support cases. well, the nine justices of the supreme court will be gathering in washington, dc today voting on the constitutionality of president obama's health care reform law. the justices heard arguments earlier this week. now they're going to vote one by one this morning in order of seniority. however, their decision will not be known until june. after today's vote, a single justice will be assigned to write the majority opinion. we already know that exercise is good for your health, but a new government study says it can also prevent cancer. people who are obese and don't exercise on a regular basis have a higher risk of developing the illness. the american cancer society estimates that a third of cancer deaths can be attributed to diet and physical activity habits. let's get over to sal. is it feeling like friday light? it's early.

good morning. right now, traffic is moving along pretty well the you're driving through the toll plaza. 124 miles per hour police chase this morning in the east bay. look at these pictures. they chased the car to antioch and then to the martinez area. police were worried that driver would run into a freeway closure in pittsburgh, but the

car got off just before and was eventually forced to stop. police arrested one man. they were out searching for another. still not clear why the suspects allegedly fled in the first place. new security camera video we have to show you shows a tornado tossing around a school bus. imagine being on there. this happened earlier this month in henryville, indiana. the bus ended up across the street from the school and into a diner. look inside. no students were on there, thankfully. they actually ran inside their school just 13 minutes before this tornado hit. >> a silicone valley company is taking a step that looks like a move toward privacy. yahoo says users will be able to track a box that tells websites they don't want to be track. >> firms make money by tracking

for her found a box labeled stainless steel handcuffs. two used condoms were found several feet away. these items were a mile and a half from sierra lamar's home. >> it's disturbing. it's close to home. we hope it is connected but then you hope it is not connected. maybe evidence or something to find her. >> investigators don't know if this latest discovery is connected to her disappearance, but they're not ruling anything out. sierra lamar vanished exactly two weeks ago. volunteers are hoping to expand their search through sunday. now, new information in a serial killer case. an inmate led investigators to an abandoned well. there was a large amount of

human bones. there will be a 1:00 news conference today. an antioch high school is on alert after reports that a girl was sexual assaulted right on campus. the alleged attack took place at deer valley high yesterday afternoon. now, police say they were called to the school after receiving reports that a girl was sexual assaulted in a campus bathroom. investigators are still looking into the details and they are interviewing witnesses. >> time right now, 6:33. the man accused of stabbing another man in san francisco's occupy camp is now in custody. it happened sunday night in market street in the financial district. police say the unidentified man stabbed 28-year-old brian boston reed. now, nick shaw is credited with taking that suspect into custody. shaw says the suspect came back to the camp yesterday morning. shaw then performed a citizen's arrest and held them there until the plus arrived. now, reed is still in the hospital, but we're told he's

the victim is not one of its employees. searchers will go back today looking for missing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. now, a volunteer found several items yesterday, including an empty handcuff box. 15-year-old sierra lamar vanished exactly two weeks ago. crime lab will now test the items for dna to see if they may possibly be connected to her disappearance. and bay area convenient stores will be busy all day today. the mega millions jackpot is at $540 million. but the record amount may get even bigger with all the buying that will be taking place. the drawing for the jackpot is at 8:00 tonight. a suspected drunk driver is under arrest after she crashed into a utility pole. tara moriarty has been at the scene since 4:30 this morning. pg&e crews, it's been a mess.

traumatic scene. this driver was extremely lucky. she easily could have been elect cuted. this is her car they're getting ready to tow away. this is where she slammed into a utility pole. you can see a bundle of cables where the man is standing by the line. the wires could have killed her. witnesses say she walked away without a scratch. she also failed a field sobriety test. it happened this morning when the driver was headed northbound on washington avenue. she veered off the roadway and hit the pole head on. pg&e crews cut off electricity while they repaired the poll. it's affecting nearby restaurants. >> they're expecting it to be a half a day project. >> reporter: why are they saying it's going to take so

for anything anytime. >> i'm going to do everyone a favor and not dance at noon. you're welcome. good morning. let's go out and take a look at what we have. traffic is moving along pretty well if you're driving in many areas today. it's crowded at the bay bridge. no problems onto the bridge itself. now, we've been watching all the bridges, of course, and it seems to be a little better than usual. the next three days have not been good and the last several days are shaping up to be pretty good. also this morning's drive on interstate 880 north. it's a nice drive as you drive in both directions here. if you're driving on 80 westbound, you can see traffic is moving along nicely. southbound traffic is looking pretty good. 6:50. let's go to steve. mostly sunny skies after putt and mostly cloudy skies. it's moving north before it drops south and then things crank up on saturday.

mostly cloudy, partly cloudy here, mostly sunny by noon and then fair and warm. muggy as well, a lot of humidity. this system is dropping a lot of rain on the coast. there's been over a foot of rain in some locations. i've seen anywhere from three to five inches in some locations. there's a lot there but it's staying there. that will take a lot of cloud cover away from us. the forecast saturday night into sunday shows coastal hills, two inches, about a half inch for central and south bay. the system will get here. it's just slowing down a little bit. also the wind will pick up on saturday. starting off good with patchy fog out there and all signs point towards the 70s. developing towards the santa clara valley. also towards the east bay, too much cloud cover to the north bay, so they will stay a little cooler up there. the system is developing a low. what that's going to do is a couple of things. it slows it down and wraps back

up to the north. then as it digs out, it will start to be here. it will increase the surf and that starts on saturday afternoon. still about 36 hours away. partly sunny, clouds to the north, lifting north. after my fog. it will be sunny to mostly sunny. i should say partly sunny, but 60s for some and low 70s for others, especially if you head toward the santa clara valley. it should be warm but then everything falls off the table. a wind and high surf on saturday. tuesday, the next system rolls in. well, there are reports google is preparing to get back into the hardware retailing game. searches say the search engine is preparing to sell cobranded tablets. only devices running on its android system will be available. now, google sold the nexus 1 during 2010 but shut it down after sales of other android based phones took off. this is interesting.

comcast is launching what it calls smart home service here in the bay area. it will begin offering security and home monitoring services. now, the system will let a customer adjust a thermostat, turn lights on and a half and be notified if someone breaks in your home. it will require internet service through comcast. one of those strange stories defying all the odds. the unusual medical condition that has everybody talking about this cow. and a crackdown on bay area drivers. violations that could get you a big ticket. good morning, if you're driving anywhere in the bay area, we have traffic trouble spots for me to tell you about. i will tell you about that and the rest of the commute.
