good morning, everyone, welcome to "mornings on 2". it is sunday, april 1st. i am mike mibach. >> i am claudine wong. the temperature has dropped. wind has picked up. rosemary orozco joins us. good morning, rosemary. >> it is chilly. 10 to 15 kegs cooler than yesterday -- 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. slightly warmer and the breeze will be with us as well. we will see an early week warm up. i will detail this. and we have a high surf advisory coming up. rescue operation is underway west of the golden gate. massive wave crashed on top of 68-foot yacht racing towards the bay area. they are hurt from broken ribs and and allie rasmus is live in oakland's jack lemon scare with the coast guard operation. allie? >> reporter: this is the

clipper around the world yacht race. there were 11 rats that took them from china to the bay area. some of the other boats that are part of this race made it back safely. can you see the clipper yacht behind us in the slip. crew members are back here and all okay. there are 12 crew members on board another boat called the geralyn, western australia. this is the boat and crew on one of the earlier legs of the race. when this boat you are looking at reached 400 miles off the coast of san francisco, a giant wave swept over them and race organizers say three of the crew members were severely injured. a women on two men and the women needs to get treatment for what they think are cracked ribs that she is suffering from. she needs to get the treatment as soon as possible. >> a plane with paratroopers on board were able to drop medical supplies but it was too stormy

for them to descend on the boat and airlift the injured sailors to safety. >> it was subsiding and it was bad enough that the parrotry troopers that were supposed to jump, to get an eve havingiation done weren't able to jump. that's why we went to plan b and the rescue is still taking place. >> reporter: that rescue, might now, the coast guard cutter is on its way to the yacht and the injured sailors. helicopters are enroute and some of their paratroopers will descend on the yacht to give the crew members much needed medical attention. that is supposed to happen at 10:00 this morning. allie rasmus, channel two news. they will be pounding the coast down today. there is a high surf warning. swells could reach 20 feet high with breakers topping 25 feet.

some may get a thrill watching the waves, these are dangerous swimming conditions. rip currents are strong in popular areas including stun son and ocean beach. >> this is back to normal this morning. the panoramic hay was closed throughout the afternoon yesterday. >> battered hillside caused a mudslide and at the state park. >> this, i guess, has been an especially quick slide season. we didn't have a very, we didn't have a lot of rain in december or january. but now, we have been getting it. >> public works crew removed some of the 70 yards of debris. they have forced marin county to perform mudslide controls. this time yesterday morning, a 100-foot fir tree fell. a resident who lives yards away heard the crash and thought the tree landed on her house.

it did take down electrical wires but power is restored to the area after being out for much of the day. >> they are threat investigating a hit and run crash. it happened at 1:30 yesterday afternoon at the intersection of holland beck avenue and danforth drive. they sped away and was found and arrested. both of the victims suffered major injuries. the family of a girl hit and killed on the way to school has made a claim. she was in a crosswalk at gloria way and bay walk. few steps away from her mother when she was hit. the family claims knew the intersection was dangerous and did not do anything to increase pedestrian safety. the claim will be presented to the city council on tuesday. the family attorney says if the claim is rejected, the family plans to sue the city. in fairfield, a woman was

stabbed to death and her body left behind a home. officers say it was yesterday morning when the victim's body was located near the intersection of fourth and idaho streets. the woman's name is not released. she is between 18 and 20 years old. so far, no word on a suspect or possible motive. >> notorious past, more than 10,000 people packed the oracle arena. this is the return of the dance event. during which two men died from taking ecstasy and eight people got sick and 70 were arrested on drug charges. this included a water cooling station and texting service. >> to allow people in the stands to easily communicate that there is a security issue. if they need help with something or someone is not feeling well. >> we noticed increased security inside and out the arena and watched at one youngle woman was turned away

because she was too drunk. those who put on a show were committed to providing a fun and safe environment. >> at the university of kentucky turned violent overnight. a group of students overturned cars and light vehicles and couches on fire. they posted this on you tube as well as the school's online newspaper. they were dispatched to the school and used pepper spray to break up the crowd. officers had been preparing for the possibility of post game violence even though it was the semifinalle game and not the championship game. there were about 15 arrests and 13 separate fires. there were also a few minor injuries. coming up in eight minutes, we will have highlights of the victory that set off the rioting. and stanford university prepares for the final four and against one of the most dominating players in college

basketball. today the highway patrol begin as crackdown on distracting driver. they are looking for people who are eating or doing other dangerous things behind the wheel. they say distracted driving can lead to speeding and a number of other violations without the driver realizing it. the rain is gone but the win and temperatures have gone down. want to check in with rosemary. you say 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. >> we are definitely going to fill it outside our doors. it as breezy one and with the sunshining up above. it is a chilly start. break out the wind breaker, you will need it for this morning. even into the afternoon. we expect to see the breeze continue. what a gorgeous start to the morning. most of us dealing with the conditions. and monterey reporting a few light showers. >> we check some of the wave heights as well as the gusts. high surf advisory and some of

the largest swells expected this morning with high tide. 21 feet. it looks like just off the coast of santa cruz and half moon bay by 21 miles there. this will continue for today. gusting to 36 miles an hour. right off the coastline there. we go inland a little bit. gusting to 23 and gusting to 26 miles an hour near the bay bridge. again, talking about how breezy it is out there. and fairly we had spread. take a look at the winds reported around the area from santa rosa. and not too bad. light breeze here and we are watching them pick up near area of mountain view and reporting gusts of 24 miles an hour and 23 at sfo and inland areas around livermore. concord had gusts to 25 miles an hour. >> little bit earlier this morning. 46 in concord and 49 in oakland and in hayward. we could stand something chillier. when you include the breeze out

campaigns. ucla said a mistaken financial aid led to thousands of students being overpaid. >> 7,000 students were paid twice last week when payments were sent out. university has e-mailed all the effected student and apologized and now the university is trying to get the money back. >> i went and had $10,000. i said it is a lot of money. >> it should be given back. as it is we are in such a financial crisis with the whole system. this would only make it worse. the university said it will reverse the deposits for those who kept the money. it is not clear how the error occurred. the kentucky wildcats are the favorites to win the championship. they beat cross state rival louisville. freshman and player of the year anthony davis had 18-points and a few dunks. kentucky will play the kansas jay hawks monday night in the

going to is much like the ones you see here docked here. these boats and the one that got into trouble this weekend, they are taking part in the clipper around the world yacht race. we will show you the yacht and crew. this is you tube video of the geraldton clipper. they left china to sail forever oakland. they were 4 miles off the coast of oakland. and they injured some of the crew members. one female and two male crew members were injured. they were told to have pelvic injuries and the female member has cracked ribs. yesterday, a coast guard cargo plane flew over the yacht. that is part of the mission. they were able to drop off medical supplies and it was too stormy for them to airlift the injured sailors to safety. >> they were certainly in need of immediate medical attention. the medical supplies that we

. good morning to you. rough season starts again today. high surf warning lasting through tomorrow morning. >> a bay area woman is recovering after a terrifying experience on the ski slopes. exclusive video of crews trying to rescue jacobsen. she was skiing with her husband at tahoe two weeks ago and fell into a creek bed. she landed upside down. you can see the bottom of her skis in the snowbank. her husband is wearing the green sweatshirt and sunk to his chest while trying to dig her out. she was in there for nearly 30 minutes. couldn't breathe and could not hear anything. >> no. silence. >> i was screaming. >> to be calm and not move.

it. >> bryan stow is undergoing rehabilitation in an undisclosed facility. the family said he is wheelchair bound and needs four hour assistance. a san diego woman faces charges of the death of her 4-year-old son. patricia corby was arrested yesterday after she flagged down a police sergeant at a sub station and directed the sergeant to her parked car. inside the vehicle, he found the boy who was not breathing. investigators say they believe she killed her son and then drove him to the police station. the child's father was at work at the time. an autopsy on the boy has not yet been performed. in washington, two people are feared dead after a large fire spread through a marina. they believe the couple became trapped on a burning boat that sank being during the fire. it destroyed much of the dock and several other boat early friday. firefighters had a hard time knocking down the flames. they didn't have a fire boat and the cause is still being

right now. they are headed off the coast of california to get to the damaged yacht and injured crew member that you mentioned. the yacht they are trying to get to is similar to the one docked here at jack london square. these 65-foot long boats and the one that got into trouble are all taking part in the clipper around the world yacht race. the most recent leg of the race took them from china to oakland. several of the boats that you can see. they are back here safe. and the crew of the geraldton, australia ran into trouble. this is video of the crew. from the start of the race. it started last july. this saturday, when the crew was just about 400 miles from the bay area. they hit stormy weather and a guy want wave slammed into the yacht. one female and two crew members were injured. the female crew member is the most seriously injured. she has cracked ribs and they need to be airlifted to a bay area hospital. they tried to get to the crew by cargo ship.

on the masts on these boat. the last leg took them from china to oakland. one just docked in the bay. this is about 15 minutes ago when it arrived. some of the boats made it back safely. the crew of another boat called the geraldton western australian ran into trouble. this is video from the start of the race a few months ago -- it started this summer. everything was fine until this saturday when the crew was 400 miles from the bay area. they hit stormy weather. a rogue wave slammed into the yacht, one female and two crew members were injured. >> quite unusual injury on a sailing yacht. it's injured ribs by the crushing force of the water. >> as you heard him mention the crew members are believed to be

between the giants and oakland a's begins tomorrow night. they played a few times last month in spring training. they play tomorrow and wednesday at at&t park and at the coliseum tuesday night. the preseason series is unusual because the a's already played two regular season games against the seattle mariners in japan. tomorrow is also when we get an up-close look at the plane honoring the signature look of giants closer brian wilson. virgin america will put the plane in service. it features the giants log go. you want to keep an eye out for the aircraft. if you see it and tweet a picture to virgin america, you could win a free flight or giants tickets. the kentucky wildcats are the favorites to win the championship. they beat louisville. anthony davis had 18 points and a few dunks. more than 73,000 people watched the game in new orleans.

kentucky will play kansas jay hawks monday night in the championship game. kansas came from behind to edge ohio state 64 to 62. tonight sanford is competing in the women's final four in denver. the lady cardinals lost one game this season. however, they are considered the underdogs against the undefeated number one team in the country, baylor university. sanford is lead by two players who are sisters. >> you have a great player like neka and a rising star like gena and you see how they treat each other. they have a great relationship. that sisterhood does permeate the team. >> the baylor bears are trying to be the first team in women's basketball to go to a perfect 40-0. they are lead by brittney grainer. opponents couldn't seem to do it but a bad knee stopped linsanity. jeremy lin has a small chronic
