ping of oakland. police have released this booking photo of the man who they say is responsible for that shooting. one goh. they say she's shown no sign of remorse. he's been arraigned on murder charges tomorrow afternoon. today sonar was used to comb the southern end of the estuary where police believe he may have disposed of a gun. and they say that he had opinion planning the attack ever since his expulsion from oikos university in mid- january. and we have live team coverage right now, we begin with ktvu's carol lu she's live outside the memorial service which is just getting under way,cara. >> reporter: organizers say they hope this helps the community start to recover. they hope to embrace the victims and their families, we have been watching people arriving for the last half an

hour. roughly 200 some people here. so far clergy members are expected to speak. also expected to be in attendance here, oakland major jean quan, police chief howard jordan and the deputy korean -- member. we spoke with james and donna muller they are close friends with the mother of kim. >> you know, we're both born again christians and we're just looking to god and looking to the lord to give us some comfort and some understanding as to why these things happen, you know. it's-- there's a lot of them. you know this is not the first

one. >> i'm so sad. it was very unexpected. >> reporter: this memorial was expected to be held at a korean church, but because of the expected attendance it was moved here. the members of the church say they just want to help the community any way they can. one of the family's mourning a loss tonight is that of katleen ping. rita williams spoke to her parents who still haven't told her young son, rita. >> reporter: just a few hours ago i spoke to the heartbroken family of katleen ping. >> i am so sorry. >> but whoever did this, you know we already, we already forgive him, you know. it's all up to, it's all up to god. >> i'm going to miss her but. but i need to face the truth

that she's gone. >> reporter: deeply religious, katleen's parents, two sisters and parents say they believe they have to love their enemies so they forgive the man suspected of killing the ping's oldest child. the officer secretary who also was studying to be a nurse. >> yeah, she was in the hospital and she died shortly on the operating table. that's what the police said. >> reporter: her little boy, 4- year-old keiser does not yet know his mother is not coming home. >> her boy is going to grow up without her, but we're just going to have to stick it out for him. >> reporter: the boy's father katleen's husband ian also does not yet know that she's dead. he's still in the philippines and she was helping him immigrate to join the family here. >> reporter: incredibly her father says, katleen called the

family three times at 10:54 yesterday morning and left voice mails while they were outside playing with their son. when they listened to them last night they realized she was dying. >> you can only hear like [grunting ], then nothing. >> reporter: her father says katleen ping was the brain, heart and soul of this family so in a way he says the gunman killed them all. reporting live in oakland, rita williams, ktvu news. >> as shock turns to grief, crime scene investigators are still combing through evidence at oikos university. rob roth is there and tells us the crime scene is also turning into a memorial, rob. >> reporter: police are still here at oikos university conducting their search, it's unclear if they'll be back tomorrow but the building is still sealed off and there are flowers left for the dead and

injured. at the alameda county courthouse, nancy omalley was preparing the charges against one goh, seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. >> certainly there's certain circumstances that exist, the multiple murders make him eligible for the death penalty. >> reporter: will you seek it? >> we don't make that decision until after we go through a process. >> reporter: a process of review that could take months. o'malley says she's also looking into the gunman's past. >> we're looking at him and national data bases to see if he has any history, criminal or other vie -- violence in any other part of the country. goh is a former student, he told investigators he came with a gun looking for an add add -- administrator who happened

not to be there. >> he was upset at the administrator for expelling him. >> reporter: goh grabbed the secretary, put her into a classroom and began firing. >> he did we believe plan this event several days in advance which makes it very, very disturbing for us. >> reporter: police say goh is cooperating with them telling them what happened but apparently without showing any signs of remorse reporting live in oakland, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. as rob mentioned, one goh is said to be arraigned in an oakland courtroom tomorrow. ktvu has learned that goh was booked on charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and carjacking. during tomorrow's hearing he will hear the list of charges and number of counts against him. goh is currently being held separately from other prisoners

at santa rita jail in dublin. the san francisco chronicle is also reporting goh had a pile of debt. he owed back taxes but had been able to pay back some of that money he owed. we have obtained scanner reports. as first responders arrived there was fear for their safety. >> that's the building you're setting up a perimeter around. >> okay, get a car on that, and you guys get behind that car. >> reporter: police and firefighters rushed to help the victims. >> we've got at least five down inside the building. >> the suspect is armed with a small handgun. >> copy, suspect is armed with a small handgun. again last night of goh. >> officers eventually found 10 victims, seven people died and three others were wounded. ktvu.com has complete coverage of the mass shooting. including oakland police chief howard jordan's interview on

our air this morning about how the suspected gunman may have planned the attack. a san jose man is facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly killing a pedestrian and killing two other people. police say 45-year-old ryan rapchan was also booked on battery on a police officer. officials say he hit two pedestrians in sunny vale on saturday afternoon. edgar cueros died at the hospital, his friend a 64-year- old woman is still in critical condition. less than an hour later, rathjen struck a car in los gatos. antioch police now say a student who claims she was sexually assaulted in a bathroom was not telling the truth. police say the girl told them she made up the story because she was late and didn't want to get into trouble. the girl said she left campus to meet a boy and was late returning to class. her false report prompted authorities to issue a

community warning last friday. today activists accuse prosecutors of political motives in their handling of occupy court cases. the activist called on the district attorney to drop stay away orders issued against more than a dozen people followed those protests at uc berkeley last november. they also condemned the robbery and hate crime charges filed against three occupy oakland demonstrators in an incident on piedmont avenue in february. >> it is part of the pattern where the district attorney picks sides and prosecutes based upon the sides they chose to align with. >> reporter: the district attorney's office tells ktvu quote, in this case as in all criminal cases we file we believe that the charges can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury. a three judge panel of the ninth circuit court of appeals has placed a ban.

california voters passed proposition 209 in 1986. >> every appellate court that has looked at proposition 209 has held that it is constitutional. the california supreme court ruled that it was constitutional, and the ninth circuit now twice has ruled that it is constitutional. >> the attorney who was fighting the ban says he will ask for a review of the full circuit court. ron paul is headed to the bay area later this week. paul is sedge -- is scheduled to appear in a noontime fundraiser. paul has not yet won a republican primary, but his anti war message is popular at some campuses. the inn at the presidio has opened its doors and it's celebrating it's grand opening. the hotel is in the old officers quarters and we got a peak at the construction back

this time because my plate is overflowing. >> reporter: joann shelley says she's relieved that the body of her daughter is coming home. her remains were found inside an abandoned well along with those of kimberly billy. wesley shermantine led police to where he and herzog buried their remains. so far they have identified four out of five sets of remains that have been recovered. activists took to the street today trying to stop federal action to shut down several cannabis clubs. more than 700 people marched in san francisco. the medical cannabis task force says since october 9 san francisco landlords have received warnings to evict the dispensaries. >> we have a lease and we would like to stay inside it, my heart goes out to my landlords. >> reporter: medical marijuana users say they are also

outraged by yesterday's raid at oakland's oaksterdame university and several others. only on 2, a new field poll shows that in the last decade far more californians now recognize childhood obesity at a health threat and are willing to spend money to try to correct it. health and science editor john fowler discovered a new pilot program in san francisco that's intended to hit that epidemic head on. >> reporter: this is one of 25 stores where young people buy sodas, candy and chips, like most there's no produce here. >> people want to change, they want healthier food for their children. >> reporter: that's what people in the bay view told us. >> more healthier snack, more fruits and vegetables. >> reporter: over half of californians told us the greatest health risk is lack of physical activity.

>> that they're committed to making more changes to really address kids environments so that the healthy choice becomes the easy choice. >> reporter: today in the bay view the easy choice is too often unhealthy. we've learned a new neighborhood program is about to change that. in place of the high sugar, high fat, high salt candies and snacks, activists say for about $16,000 per store, there could be racks of fresh greens and produce. >> we don't want people to get diabetes, we don't want people to have heart disease, eating fruits and vegetables are vital to that as is exercise. >> reporter: giddy says that cities are joining with kaiser to raise money for three stores that could be offering produce by this summer. >> that's my dream to walk in and buy leafy greens. >> reporter: stores say they've offered fruit but they didn't sell. health and science editors, john fowler. more details now from that

exclusive ktvu field poll. 54% of those responding say childhood obesity is a community issue. 19% say it's mostly personal but should involve the community too. as for how much of a role different groups should play, kids and parents came in at 95% followed bid health care providers and local schools. now this comes as a push is on to bring more locally grown foods to school lunches. a hearing in sacramento focused on how to connect farm fresh food to cafeterias. alice waters spoke of her edible schoolyard program launched 18 years ago at which students plant gardens and then cook and eat what they harvest. >> it's this hands on aspect. the kids are actually putting their hands in the earth and they are actually doing the cooking in the kitchen. because hearing about it is one thing, but doing it is another. >> the state board of food and

agriculture is considering waters program as a model for other states. google could have worldwide reprocushions. the court said google displayed paid advertisements for a honda competitor in such a way it looked like the competitor was linked to honda australia. google says it is considering its options options in this case. i pads are on top of the best tablet computers. you may recall the magazine caused a bit of a stir with a report that the new i pad can get as hot as 116 degrees when certain applications are running. our consumer report now says a second round of tests found that the i pad heats up about the same as its major rivals. well rain and cooler weather may be on the way, ktvu meteorologist rosemary orosco joins us now, she's tracking the conditions. >> reporter: just a few sprinkles out there.

the bigger story will be that cool down you mentioned just a moment ago. wednesday to thursday, five to 10 degrees below what we typically get this time of year and a lot cooler than what we've seen in the last couple of days. outside right now picking up a few scattered showers over parts of the north bay. this is going to continue to sink south. plenty of it off the coastline. in stinson beach just a few sprinkles. still having a hard time figuring out just how much is actually hitting the ground. this is a very weak system. but as it moves through, we're going to leave in that possibility of maybe a few sprinkles making it. we have winds picking up ahead of the front any where from 10 to 15 miles per hour, 20 in some case, near palo alto, 17 miles per hour. san jose still sitting in the mid-50s. still a very nice day in san jose with another hour and ten minutes or so before sunset. so we'll be a little gusty with the front and then once it passes through, our winds are expected to lighten up.

we will be with the possibility of unsettled weather in the next couple of days. take a look at radar. right there it's going to continue southeast. it's this cold air behind it that will bring us the below the normal temperatures and they'll be with us wednesday, thursday, friday we begin to prebound and the weekend looks pretty good. we'll take a look at the forecast model, we're showing you the rain off the coast, maybe a few sprinkles off the peninsula then it begins to shift. it's now into areas of fremont and by 8:00 or so maybe in and around the south bay, san jose, inland east bay picking up a few scattered showers, but wednesday looks like it could be with a few scattered showers. it's going to be mostly dry with cooler conditions under way. slight chance, slight chance tomorrow. the cooler day in store. and the extended looks like we will have a warmer weekend. temperatures tomorrow morning cooler than what we felt this morning. 39 in santa rosa, 41 in areas
