crime scene technicians are once again sorting through the aftermath of this shooting at a small oakland university. that is one of the new developments today. i'm tori campbell. the gunman is due in court two hours from now. he will be arraigned in oakland at 2:00 this afternoon.

he faces murder charges for allegedly shooting ten people at the university on monday. seven people died and three were injured. the district attorney says she may ask for the death penalty. police say he has been cooperative. investigators say he was in debt and may have been trying to get his money back from the school. >> crime scene technicians are back at the university processing the scene. our camera was there when the evidence lab van arrived on edge water drive shortly before 7:30 this morning. police tell us that for now everything will stay exactly as it was in the moments after the shooting on monday. there is even a car still sitting in the driveway with its trunk and doors still open. they told us they want to be sure they have a commit and accurate picture of everything that happened. they say this crime scene is a complicated one that will take time to process.

all classes at the university are canceled indefinitely. >> there is a new development in the search for a weapon used in the university shooting. just moments ago, divers returned to the scene of an underwater search in the oakland estuary. here is more. tera. >> reporter: those divers arrived here less than ten mint as go and that is because this the spot they believe the gunman could have tossed his weapon. the suspect had mud on his shoes and there were footprints here along the shoreline. now we want to show you what divers are up against. we dropped our under water camera here to give you an idea how mirky it is. whether it is night or day, it is so dark divers have to feel around to do snow angels in the mud for what they believe is a .45 caliber handgun bought in february. now this afternoon divers will

expand their search. >> today, we're going to bring out a sonar system that will give us a 3-d picture of this area and hopefully, we'll be able to see the gun, although an object that small is very difficult. it is like a needle in a haystack. >> reporter: now investigators say the 43-year-old was trying to exact revenge when he opened fire monday morning killing seven people and injuring three. officials say he was angry with the school administrator because she wouldn't refund his tuition monday. he will make his court appearance in less than two hours. he could face the death penalty. live in oakland. >> we're learning more about the seven people who died in that university shooting. today a memorial set outside the crime scene in memory of all the lives lost. the list includes mothers, daughters, wives, people known

for contributionings to their commune tition, friends of grace kim went to a memorial last night and said she also worked two jobs to help support her family. >> she was going to school, had clinicals. she worked really hard and she was just like when you saw her, she always had a smile. >> the family of 24-year-old kathleen ping called them three times after being shot, but her parents were outside playing with her four-year-old son and never heard the calls. >> whoever did this, we are already forgiving you. it is all up to god. >> i'm going to miss her, but i need to face the truth that she is gone. >> and friends of hers say the 38-year-old did not have family close by but made friends easily. he is described as a good man

went into yahoo. none would talk about the current round of layoffings. they cut the jobs of 2,000 people. he said it may sound like a lot but it isn't enough. >> given that yahoo is in search of profitability, it is not deep enough and not fast enough. this is something done by a ceo that doesn't really understand how to do layoffs. scott thompson's plan to eliminate jobs that no longer fit the company's direction. they are looking at ways to improve their products that they make for smart phones and tablet computers so they may hire people but now they have to get through this round of lay offs and once it is complete, it will save the company money $375 million a year. >> it tends to create a downward spiral and they may

have to layoff more people. >> givennings current status, yeah hugh will have another round of layoffs and reach where they can't bounce back or even grow. thank you, paul. >> students return to oakland this morning amidst confusion after agents rated the medical marijuana operation. the students came for one final class on how to harvest marijuana and another on how to deal with legal raids. the stein on the front of the school told students the school is assessing the damage and will contact them about future classes. yesterday agents removed bags and boxes of materials from there. >> we spent yesterday really just assessing the damage. they took the life blood of the school. they took all our files, classroom computers. >> they believe federal investigators are targeting the founder and not the students.

coming up at 5:00 we'll go inside today's classes in a story you'll see only on 2. a san jose neighborhood is returning to normal after a car crash, a gas leak and evacuations. that started around 10:00 last night. investigators say a woman smashed her car into a house. she also hit a gas meter that then strange a leak. police evacuated a half dozen homes. they spent hours repairing the gas leak. most residents have been allowed back in their homes. one resident who did not want to be identified said everyone was frightened. >> i didn't feel any vibration or anything. my neighbor here said that she felt the house shake. i mean almost like an earthquake. it just pounded. >> the driver of the suv was taken to the hospital, but the extent of her injuries has not been released.

this rackets l25 mission. >> the air force is not saying what happened after the launch of this top secret from santa barbara yesterday. they analyst the rocket carried a spy satellite that can see at night and through bad weather. turning back to our top story the mass shooting at the university in oakland. we're learning more about the moments right after the tragedy happened. recordings of police scanners detalked the emergency response as it unfolded. >> there are shots coming from inside the building. people are running out screaming. >> i have another unit headed over. >> the scanner revealed what

two officers backed up against a wall and started to pepper spray students. you'll recall campus police pepper sprayed protestors last year. other parents of trayvon martin will be there for a sas nation of martin luther king, jr. then they will lead a march to demand the arrest of george zimmerman in the fatal shooting of their son. an attorney for martin's family is expressing concern about the role of zimmerman's father who is a former magistrate judge and was present during the initial investigation. zimmerman says he was there as a father and investigators did not know he was a former judge. a handful of people emerged from last week's megamillions lottery a little richer but not the same for california schools. even though thousands of people purchased a ticket last week,

the extra funds amount to just under $9 per student. a spokesperson for the office of education says every dollar helps schools but this won't make a big difference. san francisco's municipal transportation agency is supporting a plan to charge for street parking on sunday's. churches oppose sunday meters. supporters say the proposal raises extra money and increases turnover, precious parking spots in the city. it would run from noon to 6 p.m. they also favor adding a $5 surcharge on parking citations. there is a move to make it more baby friendly. the supervisors are considering a measure to make it easier to bring baby strollers on to buses. the rigid policy has been a

long time gripe among parents. san francisco is losing families with babies and toddlers at an alarming rate. >> just a few hours ago a construction makeover began on a stretch of road known for deadly car crashes. they held a ceremony for the highway 1 2x pans project. they will widen it from red top road to highway 29. the project will expand the preway from two lanes to four and add a concrete median barrier to prevent head-on collisions. >> a few hours ago the san francisco giants announced a new plan to transform the at&t parking lot. the project calls for about a thousand rental homes, offices and a multistory parking lot. plans also include a waterfront park, restaurants and shops spread over 27 acres and a

nearby peer. it shows the team and ballpark are part of the community. >> we have looked for ways to see that this neighborhood not just preserves its charm and character but can add to the economic viability and economic potency of our city and our community. >> the giants are working on an agreement with the port of san francisco which owns the parking lot and the a joining peer 48. construction could begin in three years. >> this morning a garage fire in richmond was quickly extinguished. news chopper 2 flew over the scene during mornings on 2. the single alarm fire began at 6:30 in a detached garage. smoke from burned out tires could be seen from interstate 580. there was light damage to the outside wall of the home, but no injuries. investigators are not sure if the fire was caused by the car or something else inside the

garage. a massive cleanup is under way in north texas after more than a dozen tornadoes ripped through the region. >> oh, my god. >> amateur video out today shows the frightening power of the twisters. they ripped off roofs and tossed cars and trucks in the air. hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed and 14,000 homes and businesses are without power. officials say it is a miracle no one was killed but today some sure strivers are still shaking. >> unbelievable. to come and do this, in such a short time. >> how scared were you? >> really scared. signs scared. i was never scared like this in my entire life. >> it is undescribable. >> some flights are getting out of the ft. worth but many cancelled and many planes sidelined after being damaged by hail and wind.

well our weather is turning much, much cooler and breezy but the last preseason game here before the giants days have started a couple games, but that was across the pond there, but everything gets going after today and temperatures are on the cool side for early april. in fact, we have very breezy, cool conditions after the system went by last night. very cool numbers. yesterday low to mid-60s. today upper 50s to low 60s. tomorrow even cooler. 61 there. 59 san francisco. low 60s there. san jose at 63. cold lows this morning. 33 there. ken wood 35. sanoma and wood acre at 38. danville and lafayette 35. there were a lot of 30s in the santa cruz mountains. everyone is in the same

ballpark temperature-wise. the breeze is out of the northwest. a little rain last night. snow in the sa vera nevada. >> it is gone pretty fast. there has been rain to the north associated with the colder unstable air coming in. it was down early this morning, but the beat goes on for them. it is possible we could get a spray shower later on today. the core is moving in. we're too far south, but us cool is going to sit here and not move east. it will filter in even colder air. the rainfall, nothing measurable but in the green, santa clare, northern napa through thursday morning, a possibility of a shower or two. i doubt it amounts to too much but over the santa cruz mountains. >> we'll keep an eye on this. it is still 36 hours out, but still looks like a cold, unsettled pattern setting up

the food and drug administration has linked a salmonella outbreak to sushi. a few cases as far west as texas. seven people needed hospital zation. doctors say this is an ongoing and rapidly expanding health scare. the exact cause has not been concerned but it is suspected it came from spice sy tuna rolls. >> two of the healthiest counties in the state are in the bay area. ma rin followed by santa clara. san mi tae yo came in 5th. the rankings are on how long they live and other categories. >> since this newscast started we have gotten new information on the charges the accused killer will face in the university mass shooting. that is just ahead. >>

report in the case of the mass shooting in oakland on monday. prosecutors have officially revealed they will charge goh with seven counts of murder and three counts of a termed murder. he is accused of gunning down ten former classmates at oikos in oakland. he will be formally arraigned at 2:00 this afternoon. he could be eligible for the death penalty. >> another new development, a nursing program signs visor says the suspect was apparently looking for her during his rampage. she says, goh dropped out of the nursing program and was angry he could not get his full tuition refunded. a new survey has good news about the quality of life in wall knit creek. they say the quality of life is either excellent or very good. 93% plan to stay in walnut creek for the next five years.

88% say they feel safe from violent crime. more than 700 households responded to the survey. and today is national walking day. the national heart association is sponsoring the event and says it is an easy way to stay healthy. it can fight obesity, heart disease and diabetes. the goal is to get 1500 people to get up and walk for at least 30 minutes. >> thank you for trusting ktvu channel 2news. be sure to join us again at 5:00.
