rafael bridge are back open now, after an incident that prompted a call to inspection and the coast guard. a truck was going east when the engine caught fire. the driver jumped out, and was not hurt, but the fire quickly engulfed the cab. an initially inspection by caltran shows no damage. >> the fire department was quick to get out here to put this fire out. >> the coast guard was called to check for spilled fuel from a ruptured fuel tank. the fire, as you can see, basically destroyed the cab, but the tractor's load of wine and brandy appears to be okay. the left eastbound lane is still closed, but should be back open around 1:00 p.m. we want to take a live look at the richmond, san rafael bridge

from a distance. you can see traffic flowing on the upper deck. the left eastbound lane should remain closed for about the next hour. a new search is underway right now for morgan hill teenager, sierra lamar. lorraine blanco joins us to show us where the search is now taking place. >> reporter: serve crews arrived here in san martin. it is an area the sheriff's department said it hadn't searched thoroughly left. deputies literally left no stone unturned today, as they shined the light on pipes and

debris. >> the places chosen today have been done upon inspection. just looking for places that haven't been touched enoughk or touched at all, and now putting someone on the ground in those spots. >> reporter: sierra lamar has been missing for 20 days now. she was last seen march 16 in morgan hill. although they haven't discovered any major leads, this is still considered a rescue effort. >> it's just unfortunate, with this case in particular, the sierra lamar case, since the beginning, up until now, we do still continue to have very little information about the sixes of her disappearance. we're still thinking positive. our primary goal on this case is to bring her home safely. >> reporter: deputies are concentrating on rural areas today. we did also see a crew looking

near an abandoned business. the sergeant tells us, there will be 20 sheriffs departments looking until this evening. we have new information now on that mass shooting monday at oikos university in oakland. joining us live to let us know the new details about the students reaction once the gunman started opening fire. >> reporter: we understand no that the first -- now that the first victim to run ott of the building made it about 30 yards before she collapsed in the parking lot. >> the shooter is going to be a male korean. about 40 years old. 5'5". heavy build. wearing a blue jacket, and a baseball cap. >> reporter: you can get a sense of how frantic these moments were monday morning as the shooting rampage unfolded.

now flowers and rocks in the shape of a heart for doris chibuko. she was supposed to graduate in two months. now her husband plans to bury her in their native nigeria. >> when i look at them is my wife's memory. the good thing was that, she got that beautiful smile when i left on monday morning. that's what will stick in my head forever. >> reporter: meanwhile, 43-year- old one goh made his first court appearance yesterday. we have just learned goh has been assigned a public defender. meanwhile, police chief howard jordan announced overnight,

goh's intended target was not ellen cervellon, but a different administrator who does not want to be named. the victims are being remembered by family, and the community at large, as people try to make sense of an incompensable mass shootingment these are photos of six of the seven people killed at oikos university on monday. police say they were all immigrants hoping to improve their lives with an education. most were in the nursing program. today, the youngest victim, 21- year-old lydia sim is the first to be buried. her friends and family members attended a funeral service for her last night. the memorial was held at the hayward korean baptist church where sim worshiped. friends say she taught sunday school there for six years and the children adored her.

she wanted to become a pediatrician to continue working with children. she is being laid to rest in los altos. ktvu has continuing coverage of the shooting both on the air, and online. also, when you are not near your tv, all ktvu newscasts are streamed live on ktvu online and mobile ktvu.com. 35-year-old binh thai luc is accused of killing five people in a san francisco home on march 23. he is facing several charges, including five counts of murder, with a special six of multiple murder, and could face the death penalty. this morning he pleaded not guilty to all charges. prosecutors say he used a blunt instrument for the killings then robbed them. >> very little about the case. i'm hoping by next week, i will

have more information, and then know more about they're alleging. >> the judge this morning also set bail at $25 million. at this hour, bart police are searching for whoever attacked and beat a man at the coma bart station. it was a crime caught on video. witnesses are painting the attack as both brutal, and brazen. >> reporter: it happened right in front of this ticket machine in a well lit area with a surveillance camera above, and a ticket agent nearby. this man says he saw the 23- year-old victim just before 7:30 last night. >> he stopped right here. he just stopped right there. i said excuse me, and turned around. >> reporter: police say he never made it out. movements later three people brutally beat him. witnesses say those three weren't alone.

>> i didn't even know when i was on the bus. that's when i know that. like five people ganged up on him. pulled this hood over, and just start hitting him in the head. i'm not sure if there was a weapon, or maybe there was like brass knuckle. because there are lacerations in the face. >> reporter: one witness who didn't want to go on camera says there were three people beating himk and two across the street, and they were all laughing. >> they were just shocked. when the bart dude was trying to like, keep him from -- >> from moving or just keeping still. >> reporter: he wasn't authorized to do an oncamera interview, but told me the

victim is in pretty bad shape. he is expected to recover. bart police are still trying to figure out who attacked the victim and why. ron paul is in the bay area right now. the texas congressman is speaking at a campaign fundraiser at the marriott hotel on sutter street, near union square in san francisco. that event started at 11:30. then at 7:00 tonight, paul holds a town hall meeting at uc berkely's auditorium. some of his libertarian positions, such as his support for legalizing marijuana, and his anti-war stance make him popular with younger voters. ktvu will have a report on paul's bay area visit on our newscast at 6:00. transportation security administration workers walked the picket line at sfo today. coming up, what they're protesting, and how it could

an oakland market is now red tagged after a van crashed into it. the accident caused quite a lot of damage to the black and white liquor store. the driver first hit another car, then went through a fence and finally ended up in the store. police say the driver and two other people ran off. there was another crash with suspicious circumstances in oakland, police say a car lost control on southbound 880 this morning, and crashed through a fence on the right side of the freeway this morning. a tow truck driver who was called to the scene, said he saw the car's passengers clear the trunk and jump into another car. chp told us no arrests were made. a young man is being called a hero for his response to a suspected drunk driving crash in san jose. ktvu news was first on the scene yesterday morning.

investigators say a woman smashed her car into a home on elrose avenue. austin riley saw the woman slumped over the wheel moments after the crash. the 19-year-old broke the window with a rock turned off the car's ignition and called for him. a young woman and three children were injured this morning when a fire gutted their home. the fire broke out on the 1,000 block of st. francis drive. when firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. the cause of the fire is under investigation. however, investigators say the children were awake before their mother and put newspapers in a gas fireplace that was left burning. the mother, and the children, ages 2, 4, and 6 were treated for minor injuries. airplane security workers were at check points and at the

curbside this morning at san francisco international airport outside terminal 2. tsa workers walked an informational picket line to greet passengers and inform them about potential funding cuts which they say could reduce staffing. their concern is that the cut backs could make airports less safek and create longer lines at check points. >> we have to focus on our jobs. it has to be security, we can't take short cuts. >> again, the picket line was informational only, and did not affect security or flights at the airport. the coast guard is going to sink a japanese ghost ship drifting near alaska. the trolla was swept away from last year's tsunami and quake. no one is onboard, and it doesn't have any lights, so it's considered a hazard to

other ships and boats. a coast guard cutter plans to blast it and send it to the ocean floor. oak police will miss the deadline involving the first occupy deadline. it does not have the time or money to investigate the complaints from the raid outside city hall on october 25. police also will likely miss the 180 day deadline to issue its report on the big occupy protest one week later. this potentially could place the police department one step closer to a federal takeover. the richmond police racial discrimination trial is continuing today. defense attorneys for police chief chris magmus said the claims of seven black police officers accusing the department of discrimination are ridiculous. the officers allege there was a

hostile work environment. jury deliberations will begin after today's rebuttal. several small earthquakes shook the bay area overnight. there were four small earthquakes just north of morgan hill. the first was just after 1:00 a.m. this morning, in a magnitude range from 2.8 to 1.3. there were two tiny quakes near berkely this morning, measuring 1.8, and 1.7. audio has emerged today in the nfl bounty scandal, and it involves a bay area teen. the tape was former new orleans saints defensive coordinator, gregg williams telling his players to give frank gore, of the 49ers, a head injury. >> to make sure we kill frank gore's head. we want him running sideways. we want his head sideways. >> williams is also heard offering cash to the man who struck 49ers quarterback alex smith in the head during the

nfc playoffs. he goes on to tell the saints defense to test kyle williams concussion and take out michael crabtree's acl. a filmmaker in the locker room recorded the speech, according to yahoo sports. sugary beverages could go up in price as the state tries too fight childhood obesity. voters agree that obesity in children is a serious issue. it also showed that nearly 2/3 of people would support a special fee on drinks that contain a lot of sugar. doctors say the average child has about two sugary drinks a day. that equals 150,000 empty calories a year. ♪ [ music ] well as i was saying to tori here, it kind of feels more like february, not early april. temperatures are really cool for this time of year. they were cold this morning, they will even be colder friday

morning. it is mostly sunny. there's a few clouds popping up. even a few more popping up around lake county, napa county, and also solano county. there is a possibility of maybe some pretty good build ups of showers, thunder showers. maybe some brief showers later this afternoon, points north, and also east. otherwise, it's just a cold, breezy day. if you're in the sun, and a wind protected area, maybe not too bad, but overall, temps are really cool here. santa rosa, 55. mountain view, the warmest. and a couple of locations that struggled in the last hour to get above 48, 49 degrees. lake port 26. kenwood was 29. the wind machines will be out again tomorrow morning. danville, walnut creek, allenville, all in the 30s. system is rotating around, it actually digs a little further

south allowing some of that cold air to seep in here. even though we're trying to warm up, days are getting longer, it's a little tough. a few clouds and showers could pop up this afternoon. some locations say calm on the wind, but others 12, gusting to 20 at sfo. san jose, which is 16. cool readings along the coast too. gusts 25 to 30 miles an hour. highs today will be in the 50s. upper 50s or extremely low 60s. i think most locations check into the upper 50s. a little spoke in the wheel as it hangs around the northern california border. as it does, this afternoon could give a few clouds. tonight clearing and very, very cool. tomorrow morning, we'll be even colder. here's our rainfall forecast. a couple 100s in napa and concord. we could see calmer conditions and a little warmer weather. but breezy, and cool, cool, chilly temps. clouds push the showers off to the north and east.

analysis. taking a live look. the dow currently down 23. another new sign the job market is getting stronger. first time claims for jobless benefits fell to 357,000 last week. that's down 6,000 from the week before. tomorrow, the labor department releases the march unemployment numbers, and signs the jobless rate could be down again. the battle continues to keep union square's gold dust lounge open, this despite a set back. yesterday, the historic commission voted against a landmark designation for the bar. the owner of the being wants to evict the bar, to put a clothing store in its place. reality television is coming to silicone valley. the show which may be called silicone valley will be
