statement about the shooting. >> obviously a challenging moment and we've only just begun to fully take stock of the situation. >> shin says she and other musicians will continue to play at a memorial like this one six days a week for the rest of the month. and these memorial concerts are actually set to run until the day, goh, the suspect, is due back in court. today, students, staff, administrators were able to make their way back inside the building to collect their belongings. >> investigators say they're puzzled over the skydiving accident that killed a bay area man. william calhoun was killed yesterday. the 71-year-old was an avid parachutist with over a thousand jumps under his belt. the owner of the parachute center says it appeared his

parachute opened prematurely. >> it didn't look like he made any attempt whatsoever to release the parachute and use his reserve parachute. that's what we don't understand. >> there were seven deaths at the parachute center between 1999 and 2009. 7 people were hurt today when a navy fighter jet crashed in to a virginia beach apartment complex. six of them have been released from the hospital. both pilots ejected. one is still hospitalized. officials say there were no deaths but they still haven't accounted for all the residents. the fighter was powered by a student and instructor. it appeared the plane was on approach to nearby station oceana. >> a bus carrying prisoners caught fire this afternoon causing a backup on interstate 580, eastbound direction. this shows the scene about 1:00 this afternoon. the bus was taking 22 inmates from the courthouse

in oakland to the santa rita jail. two deputies evacuated safely but one was treated for smoke inhalation. a scary scene in oakland. take a look. we first showed you this at 5:15. a truck slammed in to a building at foothill and 39th avenue at 5:00 tonight. we're told everyone is okay but there's a lot of damage to the building. >> 72 fugitives were taken in to custody this weekend after a massive sweep in san francisco. >> career criminals, violent gang members, domestic violence suspects, all the way down to public nuisance. >> dozens of officers with the san francisco police department and sheriff's department all fanned out across the city on wednesday afternoon and rounded up people wanted for a range of crimes. 50 had outstanding felony warrants. 17 had parole violations.

5 had outstanding misdemeanor charges. in fremont, a 20-year-old man was shot last night. neighbors called police after they heard what sounded like an argument and then gunfire just before 11:00. police later found a man lying in the driveway. he died at the hospital. >> it is not your typical burglary in san francisco. police are looking for help after burglars broke in to a home in the bayview neighborhood late last month. many items were stolen including medallions similar to this one. they say five years service and 20 year service. they were a gift to the homeowner in return for his service in saudi arabia. if you spot the medallions or have information about the case, police want to hear from you. >> new at 6, a former realtor and pastor was sentenced to 15 years in prison today for organizing a mortgage refinance

scheme. edwin peratta targeted spanish-speaking peoplg struggling to pay their mortgages. >> it makes it more shameful and reprehensible, because he also represented himself as a clergy member. >> he defrauded at least 32 victims. he would persuade his victims to sign over the title of his homes to them and collect their mortgage payments. >> a high school teacher was sentenced today. he made national headlines when he moved in with a former student. 41-year-old james hooker faces charges. another former student says she was in a relationship with hooker in 1998 when she was 17 years old. >> an emotional morning for suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi.

it wasn't what happened inside the courtroom that had him tearing up. rob roth was there as mirkarimi spoke of what he called a love letter from his wife. rob? >> when sus pended sheriff ross mirkarimi walked out of the hall of justice this morning, he began choking up. ross mirkarimi became emotional talking about his wife, ileana lopez. they're barred from having any contact and she's in venezuela with their son. in a column today she wrote: they do not let us talk, but you can hear from me that i love you. >> i view that quite frankly as a love letter. it's about the best love letter i've received in these 13 weeks. and i think it's a message for us to all stay strong. >> reporter: mirkarimi was in court to update the judge on his domestic violence and parenting classes. >> i'm trying to muster any internal strength i possibly

can. i'm so supported and loved by many people who reach out to me. >> reporter: mirkarimi has pleaded guilty to false imprisonment in connection to a domestic violence case where lopez received a bruise on her arm. in her column, lopez blamed the media and politics for her husband's downfall. quote: just as domestic violence is to be condemned, so too is twisting an emotionally charged argument in to a basis for removing him. will she come back? >> yes, i hope so. i presume so. but yes. >> reporter: mirkarimi faces hearings before the ethics commission and board of supervisors in his attempt to get his job back. and even if he prevails there, he could face a recall election. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 44 people were arrested today during an annual good friday protest at the bay area's

nuclear weapons lab. >> i demand you leave immediately. >> the protesters were taken in to custody while blocking the main gate of the livermore laboratory. they've held their annual good friday protest at the lab for the last 30 years. >> a dramatic reenactment of jesus' crucifixion in santa clara county this evening. how people celebrated the holy day and how some were moved to tears. janine? >> we're in the east hills of san jose. just a few hours ago, hundreds of people walked up this steep hill carrying a heavy wooden cross. >> reporter: they sang and thought of suffering as they treaded up the hill.

they reenacted the journey of jesus. >> the 10th station, jesus is stripped of his garments. >> reporter: whoever was willing helped carry a wooden cross. >> we have to do repentance, especially on this day, good friday. >> reporter: at the cathedral of faith, hundreds were welcomed to witness its tradition, a mega stage production showing the last days of jesus. the passion play is expected to draw in 40,000 people over the weekend. it depicts the last supper to the trail of jesus, to torture and resurrection. >> you get a chance to have a front and center seat of what it was like 2,000 years ago. i think it does that in a powerful way. >> there are some graphic scenes, including the crucifixion. >> i would say the hardest part is the whipping. when i do the whipping, just trying to take the whip and doing all the flexing and all that. because i want it to look as real as possible. >> reporter: many in the audience aren't members of the

congregation but wanted to see the free show. lily drove down from san francisco. >> it was awesome. it brought a lot of tears to my eyes. very touching. >> reporter: there's one more performance tonight at 7:30 at the cathedral of faith that shows the crucifixion. >> a group of religious leaders led an unconventional stations of the cross procession through san francisco today. the ritual is often done on good friday to commemorate the crucifixion of jesus christ. organizers said they wanted to connect the ritual to the homeless and disabled. one of the leaders wore a hoodie he says to remember trayvon martin and other young black americans lost to violence. >> a small sea lion catching everyone's attention not only because it's cute but because of where it was rescued.

college voted on a fee hike. student protesters were sprayed on tuesday when they tried to get in to the meeting to discuss the plan. the proposal calls for raising the prices by about 400%. the college board voted unanimously to hold off on the fee hike for the summer to take more public comments. >> a health clinic is open tonight despite major financial problems. the tenderloin health clinic is the main source of healthcare for thousands of clients. other groups have stepped in to keep the doors of the clinic open. clients we spoke to are very relieved they still have a place to go. >> people that have aids that need medication. >> the tenderloin health clinic provides medical and dental care to about 3,000 clients. >> he was rescued from the rock and almost didn't survive. this

unusual patient wasn't an escapee, just a starving young californian sea lion. the message about the dangers of pupping season. jade? >> a few weeks ago the odds were stacked against this sea lion with the alcatraz connection. after coming to the marine mammal center, there's hope. >> reporter: this photo taken after rescuers picked him up showed how sickly he appeared. he's half the size he should be at a little over a year old, mustering strength to crawl up on a heating pad. >> he was malnourished. very weak. >> reporter: al turned a corner. >> he's doing wonderful. he's eating fish on his own which is great. he's gained about four kilograms in weight. >> reporter: pupping season often keeps the center here

busy. ben ruben gets to ask questions. >> i'm trying to figure out what the noise is. >> reporter: for the record, ben, it's normal jabber between elephant seals. right now, 64 of these pups are recovering here. it's about 2:30 and it's the second feeding of the day. the whole goal is to get these little guys to gain weight. many of them are found on a beach much like this one, each starving, keeping the seal close to shore instead of out there fishing. at that point, one of the biggest dangers can be human intervention. >> very good people want to help the animals, pick them up and maybe put them in to the water. that's the last thing you want to do. >> reporter: tour guides instructed them to leave where found. the private donations pay for the 40,000 pounds of fish to these pups every season.

that's $40,000 every year. >> sonoma county supervisors have put a halt to planting vineyards on properties. they say concerting steep forested areas in to vineyards can damage creeks and make hill sides unstable. they say the proposed regulations will protect water quality. wine growers are afraid it will increase their costs and hurt small farmers. >> the marin county resident says trovolla italian kitchen infringes on his name, atrovolla. the owners of tovolla say they feel the phrase is generic and they're surprised he can trademark it in the first part.

>> the state seismic safety commission is in danger of losing its funding. it's been declared unconstitutional because it relies on a fee from insurance companies. the company is reviewing earthquake risks to san francisco's water delivery system. the governor's office is looking in to other ways to fund the commission. >> a beautiful day around the bay, but will it stay that way through the holiday weekend? >> mark is in for bill tonight and he's watching the forecast. >> it will continue at least for a good portion of the weekend, especially as we head in to saturday. right now, live storm tracker 2, no raindrops to talk about. in fact, really no clouds and mostly clear skies. winds not as strong as yesterday. temperatures still on the mild side. about to take a look at the current numbers. lower 60s right now. concord checking in at 60 degrees in more neighborhoods. oakland 57, san jose a nice 60 degrees at this 6:00 hour. we do have

this, mostly clear skies. will be cooling off late tonight. the weekend, will be mild, few extra clouds for sunday. the extended, could be tracking a few showers next week, and definitely a drop-off in to the numbers. first thing tomorrow morning, bundle up. not as cool as this morning but the coolest locations, santa rosa, livermore, oakland 39 and san jose in the upper 30s as well. the big view in the pacific, i'm tracking this weather system out here. you can see a batch of high clouds just offshore. as we do head in to saturday, we'll track a few high clouds especially tomorrow morning. temperatures on the warm side, upper 50s and 60s. weather system will approach the coastline for easter. as a result, a few extra clouds, especially during the afternoon hours. we could bring in the chance of a sprinkle or light shower by mid to late afternoon. latest forecast model kind of backing off on that chance. we'll take this in to sunday and show you. sunday afternoon,

1:00, a few extra high clouds. lots of sunshine for the south bay. here's the chance by mid to late afternoon, possibly a few sprinkles approaching sonoma county and the coastline of the north bay as well. we could be tracking a few more showers as we head in to monday with more rain clouds expected for next week. forecast highs for tomorrow afternoon on the mild side. upper 50s to the upper 60s. it will be beautiful out there for your saturday afternoon. san jose tops out at 67. half moon bay, 60 degrees. and san mutt ai --mateo 64. easter sun day will not be a washout but we're bringing in extra clouds and a chance of a north bay sprinkle by mid to late afternoon. there's a chance of a shower on monday but our expectations go up by tuesday. more rain clouds and a drop-off in temperatures. it will feel mild with the 60s and i would not be surprised to see a few low 70s. >> really nice. thank you, mark.
