their boats for the salmon fishing. complete bay area news conference starts right now audio good evening, i'm ken wayne, heather holmes is off tonight. a man and his nine-year-old daughter died this morning after they were struck by a teen driver who apparently lost control of an suv. ktvu was first on the scene after the crash happened in concord. lorraine blanco is live there where you can still see the damage from the accident. >> reporter: yes, ken, you still can, if you look behind me across the street you can see where firefighters built a wooden brace to keep the building from collapsing, where the teen crashed into a family during a morning bike ride. when we got here, thousands of gallons of water pour the out over the terrible crash in concord, just feet from a fire station. >> i just stay a bunch of people running to the fire department, like running,

screaming back and forth. >> reporter: police say the 17- year-old driver of this white vehicle was heading westbound on treat, when he crashed into a hydrant, hit a family. noro died on scene. >> many of us were telling him to hang on, the fire department would be here, it was obvious he was not going to make it. >> reporter: his nine-year-old daughter died shortly after, her 12-year-old sister taken to the hospital. >> you to take away a nine-year- old's life, she is gone, never will be able to live again. you have another child who is going to be an orphan at this point, without a father the rest of her life. and you know you take it away. it is murder, absolutely. >> reporter: friends of the teens tell us he was on the way to a friend's house when he lost control of the suv. tonight he is in jail, facing manslaughter. >> it is an easter weekend when

families are together, riding bikes down the street. and unfortunately this tragedy happened, and hopefully an investigation will find out why. >> police say speed is a factor this this crash and they will be looking at cell phone records to determine if the teen was also driving distracted, lorraine blanco, ktvu. and the highway patrol says the connector ramp is to open again soon after it was closed 6 all day. the accident happened about 10:45, when a big rig overturned between northbound interstate 280 and westbound highway 92. the big rig driver was killed. he was identified as 54-year- old steve nelson of lodi, they closed the ramp so the crews could work on part of the road. and a development we first brought you live. today, the family of missing south bay teen sierra lamar announcing a $10,000 reward for information on their daughter's

safe return. as ktvu has learned, the efforts to find the girl are getting high profile help. >> reporter: 49ers quarterback alex smith shook hands with the other volunteers, they all shook hands at the search doctor this morning. >> trying to help out. >> reporter: they didn't say much more than that before heading out on the search today. >> they're here just like the public for the same reason, you know, to search for sierra. and -- their heart felt passion means a lot to us as a family. >> reporter: and there were just a handful of the more than 450 people who showed up this morning to volunteer. the line stretched out in the parking lot. the goal here, to find clues in the disappearance of 15-year- old sierra lamar. this is the 7th organized effort since she went missing last week. it is because of the financial report, the donations that the family received that they are

able to help find their daughter. the family is now offering a $10,000 reward to the person who helps find her. >> to the person who helps sierra lamar being returned and alive, safe to her family. >> reporter: the parents and sister announced the reward this morning at the headquarters this morning. >> i would like to believe if people have a tip they will come forward anyway. but you know we're just doing everything that we probably can. >> reporter: and hoping that this reward will provide yet another resource in the community-wide effort to find their daughter. in morgan hill, ali rasmussen, ktvu. and in the search for sierra, her mother last saw her daughter before she left before the 1k508 bus on the morning of march 16th. the next day, her cell phone was found in the other direction of the bus stop. on march 18th, her purse, some of her clothes were found inside near where her phone was discovered. on march 29th searchers found

an empty cuff box and condoms. you can find more on ktvu, just click on the sierra lamar tab. and one of the victims at the oikos university shooting was laid to rest today. many came for the funeral of grace kim, buried in hayward. her brother says kim was studying to be a nurse and wanted to earn enough money some day to buy her mother a house. kim grew up in the bay area and was a graduate of foothill high school in pleasantton. and oakland's amsterdam university is shutting their doors, but supporters say the marijuana trade school will open again. the federal government raided them siezing computers and other paraphernalia. that prompted the owner to give up ownership. the director will look for a more affordable home for

oakster dam, and start up classes again. and happening now, boats returning from sea. ktvu jay hernandez has more. >> reporter: her name is jackie, she fishes off the whacky jackie, they just arrived near pier 39, we can't show you the pictures. but we can tell you they had a fabulous day, the biggest salmon they brought in, 16 pounds. and nearly everybody caught one. most fishermen don't like to count the fish until they come back, and there is a reason for that. in fact this captain fishes on his boat, the linda jean,s in 2009, less than 40,000 salmon returned through the bay, up the sacramento river. he said projections which have a little more than a million salmon colding through the bay up the delta are nice, but he

wants to wait and see for himself if the predictions match up to what he finds in the water. >> it has been tough for everybody. fish buyers, fishermen, the public -- prices -- it is not good, just what it sounds like. >> reporter: at fishermen's wharf today, one family said they buy it all the time and notice the high prices. they're glad the season has started for fishermen. and of course we just finished speaking with jackie on the whacky jackie. they are cleaning the boat for another hour. she is just so glad to be back out on the water and is very happy. she can't wait to go back out as soon as the weather deems it safe and everything is a go. she is very excited today. so are all the fishermen, we'll have more on that tonight. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu news. and three marines arrived back home today after a year-

long deployment overseas. a patriot guard was there at san francisco to welcome home christopher nuncio, dan bontano, and sergeant adam bledsoe, the three are home after a year in afghanistan. >> it is fantastic being home with my family, a year is a long time being separated. but it is all worth it. my family supports me in everything i do. i love them very much. >> one of the marines, sergeant bledsoe, made it home for their anniversary, which his wife said made her very happy. and searching for the possible victims of yesterday's fighter jet crash in virginia beach. police and fire crews broke through doors in the apartment complex, looking for anybody inside, fire officials said today they have accounted for everybody, and it doesn't appear there were any deaths. meanwhile, the navy praised civilians who rushed to the scene to help the pilots who

ejected and helped to put the fire out. and a modesto teen who made national headlines when she moved in with her former high school teacher has ended the relationship. this comes a day after police arrested 41-year-old christopher hooker for allegedly sexually abusing a high school student in 1998. 18-year-old jordan powers talked about her relationship with hooker on several national tv shows. he had left his family and his job to be with powers. the teenager says she broke it off after hooker was arrested yesterday. and the art world is remembering bay area based artist thomas kinkaid this weekend. his scenes of gardens and cottages, seen all over, while some say it is mass produced. others say his success was founded on giving people who may not otherwise buy paintings a chance to buy a picture of the world. some people were out in san francisco today, reacting to

. another driver got stuck in train tracks in oakland overnight. this was the scene at 2:00 near jacklin and square, the driver was using her gps and ended up on the tracks she said. last night, it happened elsewhere and the driver said he was following his gps. and sharks fans with reason to be excited tonight. the men in teal are at the local playoffs, local businesses are excited as well, the sharks play tonight to help to decide their opponent in the playoffs. matt? >> reporter: yes, ken, it is fan appreciation night here at hp pavilion, and the fans are lined up getting ready for the 7:30 game, the sharks know they're going to the playoffs, exciting fans and businesses. the sharks spent the morning practicing before their final regular season game,

fire. the ambassador warned them as they continued to advance, in anticipation of the cease fire. many died today, sources report. and in oklahoma, they're warning people to be on the alert as police search for a gunman who shot five people, leaving three of them dead. the investigators say the shootings yesterday are likely linked because they happened within the same time of a three- mile area. all three victims were out walking when they were shot. the detectives believe it is a white man, and they say it could be hate shootings because all the victims are black. and looking at the trayvon martin case, the associated press sites an anonymous source who claims a producer trimmed a part of george zimmerman's 911 call the night trayvon martin was shot. the edit made it sound like zimmerman volunteered to police with no prompting that martin was black. zimmerman was actually

answering the 911 operator's question about martin's race. and to election news now, g.o.p. leaders today said the math doesn't lie, with mitt romney having the number of super delegates to win the nomination. mitt romney has the support of most of the committee members, who will attend the summer and can choose who they wish. mitt romney is taking time off this weekend for the easter holiday. his rival, santorum is pledging to stay in the race, despite trailing a far away second. santorum took the week off's his campaign saying he well return to the campaign trail on tuesday. in his weekly address, president obama reflected on the meaning of easter and passover weekend. they say both remind americans of the common thread of humanity. >> the notion that there is something out there bigger than ourselves, these beliefs unite

the afternoon hours, temperatures for the afternoon around 60 to 70 degrees. we are dry out there right now. and tomorrow morning just a few high clouds approaching the north bay. and those high clouds will continue to come into the region by monday afternoon. increasing clouds, then here we go with the first rounds of rain pushing back into the region, another storm into thursday. and reaching the forecast tomorrow morning, fair skies, on the cool side. by the afternoon hours increasing high clouds. temperatures max out in the 60s, warmest locations will be approaching the lower 70s, right around san jose, morgan hill and gilreno, losgatos, 45 degrees, and still on the mild side, the rain later pushing into the region on tuesday, scattered showers on wednesday, then another chance of more rain, in fact fairly significant as we do head into thursday, but good news for the easter egg hunts tomorrow, no rain drops to worry about.
