accident in oakland. police are questioning an suv driver who struck and killed a bicyclist. it happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. at 7th and bran croft-- and bancroft. the suv driver could be seen walking around in her robe. it's still unclear what lead up to that crash or if the driver will face charges. our time now 6:03. we are still following developing news. that is where two fire educate evers have been. now this fire is under control. you can see here the firefighters are still pouring a lot of water on what is left of the building. again, these are live pictures from an area called kennings ton. the firefighters got there to this. a lot of heavy flames and

embers from the fire landed on several nearby homes and businesses. that sparked another fire inside a furniture store. two other firefighter were rescue. they were taken to the hospital. we don't mother uses. and in neighboring new jersey there is this. firefighters are battling a fast moving brush fire. on the morning chews at 4:30 claudine told you it has burned 500 acres. we now have word it has grown to 100 ikeers. four fog thens can get were. people are reporting racial slurs were tagged graffiti on some san francisco homes.

ktvu allie rasmus is tracking all of this investigation and she is back now with the very latest from the sunset district. what do you know? >> reporter: one of the tags is in a pretty visible spot. right across the street federal lincolnway. the graffiti we will show you here is painted right in front of this private residence and private home. this isn't the only police where neighbors the vandalism. neighbors reported noticing the graffiti on sunday morning. it has been found in three spots. one is a block away on lincolnway. san francisco police are investigating this vandalism. they are trying to determine who is behind it and the motivations behind it whether this is some attention

with that food package if north korea does not live up to its commitments. reporting live alison burns. east bay high school senior is claiming discrimination against uc berkeley after the university denied her admission. she held a demonstration with supporters yesterday on the cal campus. she claims the university denied her admissions because she is latino. she is now appealing that decision. >> uc berkeley was significant to me it would not only allow me to further my individual education but stand as a representative for minority groups. >> members of the group by any means necessary says they need to double the number of black and latino students. the school board will talk about raising the tax rate on

2010 measure c bond to reduce long-term costs for property owners. pressure c was passed in 2010 after they promised contact its would not receive -- that is the same rate property. it was a three alarm fire that started in the back of el tapatio restaurant early yesterday morning. these flames spread through the the shopping center destroying the restaurant, as well as several other businesses. six businesses suffered fire or smoke damage. police in antioch say that alcohol may have been a factor in a crash that injured four people. a caret -- the driver couldn't

good morning. traffic continues to move along very well if you are driving into and out of the bay area. right now traffic continues to look good through all the bay area bridges and causeways. oakland police are searching for several people involved in a smash and crab robbery -- smash and grab robbery. police say one person ran inside and grabbed four laptops

he loved kids period. >> anthers was the scene last night a couple hundred people turned out for a vigil including widow who lost her husband and daughter. soliaman nuri and his nine-year- old daughter were hit by an out of control suv that jumped the curb on saturday. this morning the 17-year-old boy police say was driving that suv is in juvenile hall. his name not being released. investigators now trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol may have played a role in this crash and whether that boy may have been on the cell phone at the time of the accident. they are checking his cell phone records as we speak. we are live this morning in concord alex savidge. 6:32. meantime police in san francisco investigating two separate accidents along the embarcadero it sent eight people to the hospital. both happened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. a couple blocks apart. the one crash was at the

embarcadero. police say a suspected drunk driver in a speeding suv slammed into a parked sedan and bounced off a second car. then the suv finally hit a third car before flipping over and landing right in front of the dylan city street restaurant. >> i have never heard such a loud crash before. then i heard this scream. which turned out to be someone witnessing the accident. >> the second crash was near harrison street. the driver of a red car made an illegal left turn in front of a muni bus. there were three injuries in that crash. five in the other crash. no injuries no serious injuries have been reported. police in oakland have made a disturbing admission that is raising new questions about public safety. it involves the publics response to 911 calls friday night. tara moriarty joins us live from police headquarters with

that story. >> reporter: we have been speaking to people this morning. the first response we seem to get is wow. some people say they are just shocked that they can't believe something like this would happen. others are not too surprised. saying they made calls to opd before and had to wait a long time before the response. this was about 6:30 the department was at full staff. 125 calls came in and opd was unable to respond to any of the calls. these for are no nonemergencies. and two hours later there were more cars. 146 outstanding. so none of those people ever saw a police officer. some residence tell us the city needs to hire more officers to deal with one of the most crime ridden cities in america. >> it's pretty sad. and then you have to ask yourself what is the problem? what is taking so long.

here is a quick look at some of the top stories. two pennsylvania firefighters are dead after this big warehouse fire just outside of philadelphia this morning. the firefighters were inside a furniture store that caught fire because some of the embers from the burning warehouse hit it. three other firefighters were hurt but they are expected to survive. >> a candle light vigil was hill for a concord man and his daughter. they were hit and killed while riding their bikes on saturday. police are investigating whether the 17-year-old driver was under the influence or if he was using his cell phone at the time of that crash. >> the oakland police department made a disturbing admission it's raising questions about public safety. they were swamped with 911

calls friday evening and they weren't able to respond to all of them. racist graffiti startled san francisco neighbors. allie rasmus is live in the sunset district where the vandalism has atracked police attention. >> reporter: the graffiti includes racial slurs and has been found in slow spots in the same sunset district neighborhood. the tag is painted right in front of a a house. lincoln way is near this. neighbors reported noticing the graffiti on sunday morning. some neighbors we talked to including the man that lives network door to this house. they are noticing it for the first time. >> it's new to this area. it is disappointing to see this around here. you are used to seeing some graffiti.
