good morning, to you. it's wednesday april 11th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm claudine wong in for pam cook. let's get a quick look at your weather and traffic. it has been a busy week of rain. more coming today? >> yes. yes on all those. we do have our system heading up to the sacramento valley. we will have some sun in the morning and cloud it up in the afternoon. we will get a few showers but mainly a possibility of thundershowers off to the east. here is sal. we have a pretty tough drive. we've had fender penners and some serious wrecks. also this morning we are looking at 101 in marin county. remember still wet. drive carefully it will be a tough drive. let's go back to the desk. sal, thank you. we are still following breaking news coming in from san

francisco. police are telling ktvu news a car involved in several hit and run accidents flipped over near the hewn ye tracks. ktvu alex savidge just arrived there. what do you see or no? >> reporter: this is a serious accident that happened this morning. the driver was barely injured. this is all papping on the embark care owe at spring street. it was on its roof ear this art the awe 49 this morning. this is car hit several other parked cars in that area. there was a witness who saw the driver hitting those cars. that witness apparently followed this suv here to this intersection of embarcadero and green street where this car may

be going somewhat fast. flipped over, crashed here injuring the driver and again part of the issue as we come back out here live is this suv is sitting on the muni tracks. this is the f line. the f line tracks are blocked here. again, suv that has crashed this morning on the embarcadero sitting in the middle of the muni line here. police trying to clear this scene. we are working to get more information for you. for now we are live in san francisco alex savidge. 6:03. a freight train hit a car on the tracks and killed a driver. this happened late last night at the train crossing on castro street. it doesn't look like the driver was trying to beat that train. it doesn't appear to be a suicide attempt. investigators want to know how

or if the driver lost control. no one else was hurt. there was a big sigh of relief coming from southeast asia. a tsunami watch was lifted for most of the indian ocean. that earthquake hit just after 1:38:00 a.m. pacific time. people poured out of buildings and on to city streets. some terrified people were crying and clutching loved ones. at this point there are no reports of casualties are major damage. a tsunami warning does remain in effect for india and sri lanka. these quakes hit the same general area as a 9.1 earthquake that triggered a tsunami back in 2004. nearly a quarter million people

were killed back then and there were death in the 13 different countries. some waves reached nearly 100 feet high. in a few hours the search will resume for sierra lamar. she has been missing for nearly four weeks. tara moriarty joins us live. >> reporter: we are here at burnett elementary school will volunteers will be gathering in two hours. if you want to participate it has been muddy out there so bring boots or tennis shoes. you have to be 18 years old and bring some kind of picture like this one. now last weekend there was a huge turnout hundreds of people showed up including a handful of 49er players. they fanned out at this same location.

authorities believe she was kidnapped. police later found her cell phone tossed off a roadway close to her home and a few days later her purse, and school books were wedged between a building and a big cactus. they town an empty cuff box and -- the location is known as a teen hang out spot. investigators are waiting for the result of forensics here. dogs have scour the parts -- scoured parts of morgan hill. the family scrapped together a $10,000 reward for information leading to lamar's safe return. police have received more than 1200 tips. so far no clues on to how the teenager vanished.

green. we also have slow traffic on highway 4 westbound already stop and go. already stop and go traffic in parts of contra costa county an 680. let's move along and take a look at 237. there was a crash westbound at 237 at the lawrence expressway. it was blocking three lanes far time. they may have moved it out of the way. traffic may be effected as you drive toward the lawrence express way. here in milpitas it does look good. let's go to san jose. northbound 101 101, 880 and 280 looks good there. let's go to steve. our system which was a slow mover yesterday has finally sped up and leaving behind pretty good rain totals.

it was steady all day and stacked up for some. i can't remember the last time san jose had so much rain. it was one of those core kippa terns. inch plus for hayward. from concord, cordelia up to napa three quarters to almost an inch there. rain turns to snow right around blue canyon. 40s for some. low 50s for others. because that system is moving out we will have some sun in the morning. we will cloud it up in the afternoon. possibility of showers and maybe some thundershowers. out to the valley it's possible. eastern napa county. i think city ran moe would be the best bet.

chp officers used bean backs to arrest a man that lead them on is archaist. that driver had been waving a gun and they spotted the car on interstate 10 and gave chase. the driver wouldn't surrender even after crashing into another car. there was intense standoff until officers fired the bean bags and took them into custody. ross mark rheumy has hired -- mirkarimi has hired an attorney with plenty of star power.

yesterday in florida the president said it's only fair for millionaires to pay the same tax rate as the middle class. the u.s. senate is due to vote on the buffet rule possibly next week. new this morning nine miners in peru are finally rescued after six days trapped in a collapsed mine. i want to show you new video of the miners being lead out. one by one. you can see they are wearing sun glasses to protect their eyes from the sun. the miners had been trapped since last thursday. they were given food, water and oxygen through a tube. 6:17. investigators in sonoma county blaming broken rental equipment for a power failure that happened sunday night. that blackout caused the county's 911 dispatch system to crash for several hours. sonoma county is renting an

emergency power supply system for police and fire agencies. the delivery of a new one is expected for about a month. a man is arrested -- 22- year-old andrew vargas entered a guilty plea to felony drunk driving charges. he hit this young man near at & t park last august. he was leaving a giants game with his family. family says the little boy suffered a brain injury as well as broken bones. another woman was also hurt. george lucas movie company is abandoning plans to -- the county planning commission has already approved plans for the 269,000 square foot facility but residence living at the property were against that

around moisture there. san jose says mostly cloudy. we are getting a little clearing here. any sun breaks won't last too long. hayward had over an inch of rain. not too bad there at napa. and redwood city had a half inch of rain. tahoe says snow. truckee says mix. blue canyon 33 at snow. this is a very warm system. upper 40s. temperatures are dropping as the sky gets a few breaks in the clouds. we're in the upper 40s to a few mid 40s. now really unstable atmosphere get to be juiced up here. this will give us possible showers and thundershowers later on today. the next system upstream brings rain back. some sun here for awhile. partly cloudy to mostly cloudy.

right now we are looking add traffic on highway 24 that looks pretty good. but still wet roads from overnight rain. so far no major crashes. a day out on the water turned into a rescue mission for one family in jacksonville, florida. a father and daughter quickly jumped into action when they spotted this dolphin. they tugged on the animal by its tail. a met that the father saw in a rescue mission video. 6:26. starting today parts of the golden gate park will be off limit to dogs because of coyotes. in the past couple of weeks several dog walkers say they

have come across really aggressive coyotes in golden gate park. they say they are defending their territory because it's pupping season. a quarter mile of jfk drive of north lake and middle lake will be off limit to dogs through the season which could last through august. be careful out there on tax day. you are more likely to die an untimely death. researchers say fatal traffic accidents rise 6% on tax day. likely from people rushing to post offices and increase stress with impairs driving skills. the study is published in the journal of the american medical association. this year tax day is tuesday, april 17th. bart is making its way to san jose. the special presentation. a man seriously hurt after crashing his car on the embarcadero in san francisco necessary morning. we'll tell you what police say

pam cook has the night off. we are starting with developing news coming in from san francisco. a car believed to have been involved in several hit and run crashes finally flipped over near the muni tracks. ktvu alex savidge is there now. you have new information so what do you know? >> well good morning, dave. san francisco police have told us this was a possible drunk driver that got in pretty serious crash this morning on the embarcadero. the crash happened right on the muni tracks. this is the f line. the muni system is back up and running here. apparently this happened around 5:15 this morning when the man the driver hit several other parked cars near broadway and polk. one of the witnesses who had their car hit apparently followed this driver here to the intersection of embarcadero and green where this crash happened. that's where i want to bring in a person that witnessed the aftermath of this incident.

chuck you work nearby. you saw the end of this crash. can you explain what happened? >> yeah. i guess he tried to cut over the island to get back into the regular lane of traffic when he hit that there was a light post there. he was sliding up and down the intersection right here. >> reporter: what did he say to you? >> he got out of the car and asking where the driver was. >> he was confused. >> yeah. medicated in some level. >> reporter: did he seem to be in the right state of mind? >> no, he was rolling around on the ground. he seemed pretty loaded. >> reporter: san francisco police just telling us a short time ago that they do believe this driver was under the influence intoxicated this morning when he hit several parked cars and crashed his own car along the embarcadero.

the move knee line back up and running this morning. the concord father and daughter that were hit and killed while riding their bikes will be laid to rest today. funeral services for soliaman nuri and his nine-year-old daughter will be held today. the 17-year-old driver was released from juvenile hall yesterday. he could be rearrested. >> we have no legal aspect to hold him on any charges. >> so he can drive? >> you know whatever his license is at this time he's still within those per ramates. >> the nuri family released a statement in reaction to the teen being released. saying quote we know this country has a justice system put in place. that's why our families moved here. police in santa rosa have a

suspected arsonist. we wanted you to take a look at this surveillance image. the man may have set six vehicles on fire on the flight of april 1st. investigators say he targeted unlocked vehicles, took valuables from them before setting them on fire. the arsons took place in an area bordered by west third street. valley west drive and full son road. 6:33. george zimmerman the florida neighborhood watch member that fatally shot teenager trayvon martin is looking for new attorneys today after his lawyers dropped the case. they say they cannot reach zimmerman so therefore they cannot serve him. lawyers say they are worried about zimmerman's mental condition but willing to represent him again if he decides to contact them. in the meantime reverend al

restaurant owners say the proposed new regulations will be bad for business. the proposed ordnance will require all establishments that serve alcohol to apply with nuisance based performers. any violators will cut back their alcohol serving time. they are telling the times the city should focus on adding police officers to keep up with walnut creek's growing night scene. the city planning commission will talk about this issue tomorrow night. after years of discussion, there will be a ground breaking tomorrow for the south bay bart extension. lorraine blanco is live in san jose where today future bart riders will get a glimpse of what they can expect. lorraine. >> reporter: ha is right. a bart train car is set to arrive here at this tent at noon today. one day ahead of ground breaking for the bear station. security is already in place here. they are out here 24/7 to make sure no one touches the valley transportation authority setup. here is a new peek at the line.

of high-rise buildings. panicking after a magnitude 8.6 earthquake followed by an 8.2 after shock. they triggered tsunami warning throughout the indian ocean area. a watch is still in effect but so far we have not had any reports of casualties or serious damage. >> back here at home the oikos university future of that school is very much in doubt after last weeks tragic shooting rampage. the president says classes have been canceled indefinitely. once the students do go back many will be moved to another east bay campus to avoid any further emotional trauma. >> there was this a car believed to be involved in a series of hit and run crashes finally flipped over right near the muni tracks. the driver of that car is in

the hospital. we will bring you a live update from this crash scene coming up. volunteers will gather many morgan hill where they will be searching for missing teenager sierra lamar. tara moriarty joins us. >> reporter: this is the first of three searches planned for this week for the missing teen. one volunteer just pulled up a minute ago. they are gathering here at the search command center. it's an elementary school they have yellow ribbons hanging up with sierra's name on them. they will be spreading out. we are here at burnett elementary school where hundreds turned out for the last search. they fanned out from the same spot close to where sierra lamar disappeared. they believe the 16-year-old was kidnapped while trying to catch a bus.

she found her cell phone tossed off on the side of the road. on march 29th searchers found an empty handcuff box and used condoms within two miles of our house. investigators are still waiting for the results of forensic testing. diver haves searched nearby reservoirs and ponds but found nothing. cadaver dogs have searched parts of morgan hill and gilroy. the family has come up with a $10,000 reward for anyone having information on the search for her return. hopefully this morning volunteers will find something that will help them solve the mystery of what happened to this teenager. live from morgan hill i'm tara moriarty. time now 6:46. occupy oakland protestors vow they will continue to carry on their message. >> three weeks i was living in

the roads are wet. how are we looking? >> we are looking better than before. things are drying off. and if you are driving anywhere i still say you should give yourself a little extra time but it's not as critical. i wouldn't say critical the word i'm looking for the roads are not as wet i guess. we came on the air at 4:30. here we are almost 7:00 seems to be drying off. 2:37 slow traffic here. 880 north and southbound looking good. the traffic trouble spot list has become a little shorter. still got a couple things out there. if you are driving out to the commute in fact if you are -- are we going to the maps? i think we are going to talk about contra costa county here and traffic is moving along relatively well on highway 4.

looking at the road sensors only slow traffic in antioch. if you look at concord, pleasant hill, and walnut creek not really a lot. let's just go to the weather with steve. >> okay, sal, thank you. a few breaks here. still mostly cloudy skies. add a little bit of sun here. but then i think we will cloud things up here. there is so much moisture in the air. it's a very warm system. there is snow up there. it's a snow rain mix for some. and accumulations i don't think will be very heavy. for some we had decent amount there is. dublin over to concord. napa had an inch of rain. hayward had over an inch of inch of rain. some reports of rain over shasta. there is snow at blue canyon. a rain snow mix at truckee. there is snow on the side of the highways.

we do have developing news from los angeles. police say a couple sitting in a car was shot to death in an aparticipant carjacking attempt near the usc campus. it happened early this morning. the two victims are usc students. so far there are no word of any arrests. our time is 6:56. knowing what to do in an emergency can save a life. and a young san francisco girl will be honored because she made a 911 call that saved her mothers life. 14-year-old belcas called 911 last year when her mother had severe heart problems.
