good afternoon. i'm mike mibach. tori campbell has the afternoon off. we have developing news this afternoon in the trayvon martin shooting case. in the past half-hour, law enforcement says a special prosecutor will announce later today that she will charge george zimmerman with the shooting. that announcement is expected at 3:00 p.m.

pacific time. zimmerman said he charged -- he shot and killed the teenager in self-defense. zimmerman's attorneys who quit yesterday say they've not heard from him since sunday and do not know where he is. eric holder assured civil rights leaders will take action in the trayvon martin case if warranted. holder spoke at the national convention of the action network. the attorney general promised to take action if there's evidence of a federal criminal civil rights crime. a father and his daughter killed on a weekend bike ride, and this morning the two were remembered at a funeral service in the east bay. lorraine blanco is live this morning in antioch where the service is still underway. lorraine? >> reporter: well, the nuri family asked us to shoot video from afar and asked us it

released from juvenile hall. he could be rearrest and charged if police determine -- if police determine distracted driving caused that crash. two earthquakes shook indonesia. people were running out of high- rise buildings in a panic and women and children were clutching each other tight. one hotel guest hurt himself jumping out of a window. residents were urged to seek higher ground because of a tsunami wave. david cameron was visiting when the quakes hit. >> i'm hugely concerned about the reports of the earthquake in the ual region. our thought -- in the actual region. our thoughts should be with those affected. britain is ready to help if

help is needed. >> this morning's tremors brought back memories in 2004 when a 9.1 earthquake hit. there were deaths in india and sri lanka. some waves reached nearly 100 feet high. ktvu has learned that administrators are preparing classes again for oikos university. the classes may be moved to another location. according to the contra costa times, the university president says once the students return, many will be moved to another east bay campus to avoid further trauma. two possible locations include patton university in oakland and unitech college in fremont. right now a new search is underway for morgan hill teenager sierra lamarr in two

new locations. she disappeared march 16th. deputies say more than 1,000 tips have filtered in. tara moriarty is live this afternoon at the search command center with the latest. tara? >> reporter: well, mike, here is a copy of the flier showing the $10,000 that sierra's family is offering for the reward. we're here at burnett university where volunteers are gathering. >> you will see the map here. >> reporter: they targeted a quarry south of gilroy and a shooting range near morgan hill. >> when you put this amount of people out there, you're bound to find clues. >> reporter: anything suspicious is marked for authorities. >> when they do come across something that's of interest they will mark it with flagging tape. they will flag it, and take notes. >> reporter: marc klaas's own daughter was kidnap and killed nearly 20 years ago. >> we would be looking for

found nearby. but there have been no other traces of her since then. this search will continue for one more hour an then this weekend volunteers will head out again. back to you. >> thank you, tara. a man convicted of running down a 9-year-old baseball fan in san francisco last august was sentenced this morning in san francisco. 22-year-old andrew vargas pleaded guilty to felony dui and hit and run. in exchanged, he was sentenced to one year in county jail, probation and 100 hours of community service. he must also attend dui classes. prosecutors say vargas was going the wrong way when he hit ryan white who was on vacation from philadelphia leaving ryan white with a brain injury and broken bones. another individual was injured. a driver was taken to the hospital this morning after an accident that happened at 5:00

a.m. officers say they got a report that a vehicle had hit numerous parked cars on polk street near broadway. that vehicle continued down the embarcadero where it hit a pole before overturning. >> he was wondering where the driver was and the officer was like, you were the driver. he said no, i wasn't driving. he said where is the driver? and he rolled around the on the ground a few more times. >> he seemed to be -- >> he was loaded out of the his mind. >> the driver expected to survive. no one else was hurt. you can them by the damage here there was a violent collision. the train smashed into the back end of the car which is now half of its original size. investigators think the driver may have lost control before the train hit it. no one else was hurt. still to come -- president obama is making another pitch

the university of california released its report on an incident last november at uc davis in which police pepper sprayed peaceful occupy demonstrators. the release of the report was held up after the campus police went to court asking that the nails of the officers be kept secret. the judge agreed to conceal most of the officers' names. you can find the text of the report at ktvu.com. president obama continued his push this morning for increased tax rates for the wealthiest americans. as alison burns reports from our washington, d.c. bureau, mr. obama surrounded himself around people he says are being treated unfairly under the current tax law. >> reporter: the white house, president obama was joined on stage by corporate secretaries and other office workers. this is intended to show the people who pay higher tax rates than their millionaire bosses.

for the second day in a row, the president is trying to rally support for the so-called buffest rule that will require millionaires to pay a minimum 30% tax rate. the senate votes next week. >> it's wrong that the middle- class americans pay more in taxes than some billionaires and millionaires. >> reporter: president obama said ronald reagan advocated the same idea so perhaps it should be called the reagan rule instead of the buffett rule. while the president was holding his event, mitt romney's advisers were holding a conference call saying the president's proposals represent the worst of washington. back to you. mitt romney turned his focus to president obama this morning. that comes one day after rival candidate rick santorum was suspending his campaign. he said his run to unseed mr. obama is like the 1980 race

saving a live. ktvu's claudine wong is emceeing the event. commuters are getting a glimpse of the south bay extension. this will be the berryessa station. crews will break ground on that site tomorrow. >> this is a $2.3 billion project with that, there are a ton of jobs that will be created, a lot of constructiontion jobs, a lot of trucks, dirt hauling. it's the largest infrastructure project to sit the silicon valley. >> the extension project will put a station in milpitas and one in north san jose. san francisco is close to starting a water taxi service. it's reported the service will go from pier to pier along the waterfront. it comes in time for several water events including the america's cup, the construction of the new cruise terminal. the water taxis will be 60 feet

-- the dow jones jumped this wednesday about 82 points. apple is being accused of fixing the prices on electronic books. this morning, the justice department filed charges against apple. the company and five major book publishers were under investigation. the federal government examined whether apple cut a deal with the publishers when apple released its i-tad tablets. the company would have allegedly received a 20% commission on each book sold. lucas film is abandoning plans to build a new studio facility in marin county. the planning commission already approved plans for the $269 -- for the 269,000-square foot facility on gravy ranch. however, people living near that property were against the development saying it would generate noise, traffic and create environment damage. lucas said the level of litter -- bitterness and anger

expressed by the homeowners led them to abandon the project into a new walmart store is open in san jose at the corner of cherry view and almaden expressway. 250 people are expected to be hired by the company and it should boost revenue in the area. the walmart will have several green features like l.e.d. lights and low-flowing toilets and faucets. the death of ronniemont rose -- ronnie montrose was a suicide according to the coroner. the coroner concluded he took his own life last month at his home. that's according to the "chronicle." his widow said he suffered from clinical depression with you she can't believe he -- but she can't believe he committed suicide after being successfully treated for prostate cancer. he did not leave a suicide note. he was 65. nine miners in per you are
