the chp advises to slow down and be careful on the wet roads. of course, the main event moved in the bay area early this morning. the urban and small stream flood advisory, that advisory has expired. we have? of -- somewhat of a break. some sunshine, clouds, even so a -- even some passing showers. but on the live stormtracker2, closer to monterey bay and also to the east there's shower activity. so somewhat of a break right now. i'm gonna shift the maps. we do have more activity. this could be the next impulse that moves into the bay area as we do head into the overnight hours. as far as rainfall over the past 24 hours, you can see the numbers, santa rosa, .45. look at orinda, .75. probably associated with the fire system that rolled through the orinda. this is video sent in by a viewer out of orinda.

hostilities. jury selection began today in the trial of john edwards. the 58-year-old ed wards accused of conspiring to violate campaign finance laws and accepting illegal contributions. the case centers on nearly $1 million in payments made by two donors to help hide his pregnant mistress during the presidential campaign. if convicted, he faces a maximum sentence in 30 years. a fairfield -- police say a fight staired between two groups inside its -- inside the car -- inside the bar and outside. police responded about the fight and found the two victims in the parking lot. >> we don't know what the reason was it was, if this was spilled over from a previous

incident. detectives are slowly piecing it tooth as -- together as we speak. >> they say the surviving victim is in serious but stable condition. we've learned they information about a shooting in west oakland. two men were wounded last night. the two victims drove themselves to the hospital and are expected to be released today. police say the gunfire appears to be tied to another shooting a few blocks away. no one was hurt in the earlier incident. >> police are still searching for suspects. investigators say an antioch apt complex fire may have been an act of carsen -- an act of arson. well, somewhat of a break across the -- at least across the bay area. our live camera looking out towards mt. diablo. some pretty clouds there. look for those cloud buildups as we head into the afternoon. the unstable weather pattern sticks around for today -- sticks around today and tomorrow. not a lot of coverage to show you right now with the bulk of the activity to the south and also to the east. just outside of salinas and right around the morgan hill area. once again, this is our next weather system moving into the north, already generating some rainfall, especially for the coastal waters off cape mendocino and rain showers moving into the evening hours. current numbers, 50s. san jose, 60. oakland, 56. santa rosa in the upper 50s. for today, we'll call it a mixed bag with sunshine.

some scattered clouds and off- and-on showers. the rainfall rates will be ramping up as we head into the evening hours. you can see the system that moves across the bay area producing the heavy rain. the flood advisory earlier this morning. that is shifting out to the east but upstream, the flow, here is the circulation. you can kind of pick out with the clouds here, kind of the cloud clusters, some cold air. that will continue to sweep into the region later today. so here we are at 4:00 and into the evening hours. there's the rain picking up in the north bay with the possibility of some thunderstorms gradually spreading to the south by 10:00 and 1:00. once again, a wet morning commute, especially for the early-morning hours of friday. as we head into friday, still the possibility of some scattered showers and it's cold enough and unstable enough we could have a few isolated thunderstorms out there across the bay area as we head into friday afternoon. the weekend, though, will be dry. in the sierra, our rain translays with more snow in the mountains and there is a winter

the dow don't is up 166 points. u.s. stocks rose today overall at 1% on thursday. italian bonds eased some euro concerns. oakland city leaders are trying to figure out ways to cut down on illegal dumping. city council leaders believe independent haulers are to blame for most of the dumping. they offer cheap lists on sites at craigslist, the california integrated waste management board said oakland spent $3.2 million last year picking up 300 tons of trash. statewide, illegal dumping cost
