we start tonight with some breaking news in the north bay where two people were -- where two were shot in daylight. it happened about 2 this afternoon in the city's downtown area. . we are live now where we just spoke to police about the investigation. >> reporter: we spoke to police just after 15 minutes ago and this shooting happened three hours ago. this is still a active scene. you can seat victims clothing and the evidence markers in the street. police are still processing the scene. investigators have recover the weapon and aren't looking for outstanding suspects which a strong indication it may have been a murder suicide. police received several calls about a shooting in downtown at two this afternoon. when they arrived they didn't know what they were walking into and they proceeded as if there was still a gunman on the loose. investigators -- their investigation has led them to believe two were shot. a man and a woman in front of a

small law office. no word if the relationship between the man and woman but police say they are not looking for anyone else in this case. >> processing the crime scene. we don't think there are any outstanding suspects or anybody else involved so it's just status here. >> coming back to the live shot you can so officers still on the scene. there was quite a crowd. we are hearing some of the victim's family members may have been here at the time of the shooting. the police have said they will continue to update us about it this case and we will have the latest for you tonight on the 10:00 news and of course you can check out the website and mobile ktvu for updates. we are live. >> we have new information tonight on yesterday's murder suicide in south san jose. police say they confirmed that the child found inside a parked car at a shopping center is the daughter of the victim.

a man shot a woman and then hippings. it happened in the shopping center parking lot and -- on east capitol expressway. their child was in a car seat in the vehicle. the police aren't releasing their names until their families have been told. >> the coast guard is still searching for four sail others knocked off a sailboat during a race. its been act 26 hours since the sailboat manned by eight people was flipped over by high waves. patty lee joins us live where a private vigil is underway. >> reporter: several hundred people are expected to attend this vigil here at the san francisco yacht club. you can see people are starting to arrive. now half of the crew are members here, including the captain who survived and the crew member who didn't. flag is at half staff and flowers are at the front of the yacht club. representing each of the eight on board the boat. >> we are just praying and hoping to god that a miracle

happens. it's the ocean. it's a dangerous place. >> reporter: the boat was rolled over by a series of waves, a man didn't live and four others are still missing including allen, jordon and alex. because the family of the 4th hasn't been told we are not releasing his name. >> it's a tragedy. it's a horrible accident and it touches the whole bay area, sailing community. tight knit. >> reporter: the coast guard rescued the captain, james bradford and three others. >> the conditions are better today. >> reporter: they are still searching for survivors, three coast guard cutters and four helicopters scanning the ocean. helped by calmer seas and lighter winds. >> the ability to stay on scene for longer period of time. it improves the chance that we would be able to sight someone.

>> reporter: they plan to keep search until dark and reassess. this afternoon they confirmed the missing men had foul weather gear and live vests that would help them survive the night. all eight of the men are known in the sailing community as experienced racers and as you can imagine this accident has hit the sailing community hard. >> more details. the race they were taking part in was the 2012 full crew race. the yacht racing association sponsored it. . >> a woman in critiquing condition. it happened around 10:00 at market and sanchez street. the blaze may have started in the kitchen and it quickly

moved to two alarms. when crews first arrived they were told someone was trapped. the woman was taken to the hospital. the red cross is helping displaced residents. >> police looking for the person who attacked a ice cream vendor. it they say he pistol whipped the cellar robbed him . officials say three children were killed after a outbreak of tornadoes ripped through the midwest. a storm chaser caught this video, that was in the northern part of oklahoma. at least five are confirmed dead from the storm. all of them in oklahoma.

you can see the headlights of a car almost in the path of that tornado. the car got away safely and nobody was hurt. >> more than one hundred tornadoes were reported from the powerful system that rip across the midwest. today people are forced to face the destruction. elizabeth godn 't takes us to the hardest hit places. >> reporter: it went through oklahoma, kansas, nebraska and ohio heading for more states sunday. authorities warned millions to make emergency preparations, something the kansas governor said is important for survival. >> i think if people took the warnings and -- took them seriously we had more notice on this system than you formally do. >> reporter: shelters opened in kansas for evacuated victims, homes and businesses suffers damage. >> it looks like a war scene.

event, however, the outpouring of support from all the people here make the event much easier. the. >> reporter: the victims were found march 23rd in the home by a surviving daughter. they had been beaten, slashed, days later a 35-year-old was arrested and charged with the murders. he pleaded not guilty. many questions remain. >> i think while the investigation is going on there hasn't been a lot of explanation as to how it happened, what the motive was, that's probably going to come out soon. >> reporter: those details will come out if and when there is a trial. the surviving family has maintained their privacy. that continued on this difficult day. in san francisco, ken pritchett. channel 2news. >> the president announced late today he is expecting an investigation of secret service agents accused of consorting with prostituting in columbia. the agents have been suspended
