over smed we have a crew on the -- over head and we have a crew on the way to the scene. morning the loss of 5 sailors. we received this photo today of the eight crew members setting out on the chase saturday morning. they recovered a body in the bought www.erand.com -- baldy in the water and three others rescued. ktvu's matt keller is live with the conditions the team sailed right into to. the dangerous weather conditions at the time of the boating accident made it difficult for rescuers to search for the survivors. >> sitting -- the crew was first on the scene after getting a mayday

call saturday afternoon. he was that controls when they headed to the islands. >> saw a sail boat sort of breaking up on the rocks. >> reporter: these are pictures from earlier that day. the eight people on board were competing in the race. once they reached the islands winds gusting up to 35 miles per hour and waves 15 feet. >> makes the seas and things more extreme as they stand up. the helicopter crew saw a flair leading them to some survivors. the helicopter had to go higher, a normal rescue is done at 50 feet but the wind was too much for the aircraft to handle. he had to go up four times higher, above the wind to 200 feet. that makes it more dangerous. >> a yo-yo, and you swing it on

a short swing it won't swing much but if you elongate it -- >> reporter: the two survivors were pulled into had helicopter, followed by the rescue swimmer. >> they were in shock. the search was called off yesterday but the boat is still out there. they are trying to figure out what they will do to remove the boat from the area. matt keller, ktvu channel 2 news. the giants are planning a tribute tonight for one of the victims of the boating accident. we have received this picture from the giants of alexis bush when she was younger. she was major league baseball very first bat girl. the giants are planning on observing a moment of silence tonight. people continue to bring flowers to the san francisco yacht club as they come to grips with the loss.

murder-suicide. the victim and the suspect had dated previously. their daughter was found inside the car in the shopping center parking lot where the shooting happened. the toddler was not hurt. she is now in the care of child protective services. new information on a story we told you about, police have been tracking burglaries of unlocked homes and cars. ktvu's jade hernandez is live where police have now made three arrests. >> reporter: in the neighborhood, neighbors are finding they have to do more. >> reporter: he heard about the home burglarized. >> a few around. it is just a fact of life.

we are following breaking news in oakland. ktvu channel 2 news learned one person is dead after a shooting. the location is calaveras and boule street near 580 near mills college. a witness said someone walked up to the car and shot into it several times. the driver of the car crashed into a pole and one passenger inside the car died. the driver was injured but managed to walk away. we are staying on top of this story. if we get new details we will let you know. a judge released a girl who was sent to juvenal haul

because prosecutors she would flee and not testify against a rapist. she has a history of running away but the judge said the case chartered rare legal territory. the girl must wear a ankle bracelet as a condition of her release. tonight friends and family of sierra lamar are gathering. ktvu's janine de la vega is live with the new information that investigators may have tonight. >> reporter: frank, we will get to that in a minute. we are behind burnett elementary school, the headquarters for the search center. they have pink balloons, they desperately want to find her. they have 600 pink balloons, that was her favorite color and they will release them into the

air. >> we are hoping she will see it somewhere, someone will see it and it will give her more courage. >> reporter: this afternoon the sheriff's department says results came back from analyzed items that were submitted as evidence. it provided investigators with leads to follow up on. her phone, purse and a box labeled handcuffs were found. they won't reveal which items that provided leads. sierra lamar was last seen on march 16. she never showed up for school and authorities believe she was abducted. this afternoon they were suching the water, using sonar to capture images. over the weekend hundreds searched searched for anything
