saturday. i'll have your numbers coming up! and good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday, april 21st. shaping up to be a beautiful weekend out there. let's go to rosemary and a peek at the forecast. good morning, rosemary. >> good morning to you! already bright and sunny. we have a summer-like pattern in place, fog off the coast, very dense and shallow. it's not going to be with us very long. it looks like it will be burning off to the morning hours. afternoon numbers into the 90s for inland spots. it's going to be the warmest day of the week. we'll talk about what you can expect for your neighborhood and the cooling trend ahead, coming up. we begin with overnight news from oakland. one man is dead after a shooting. lorraine blanco is live in oakland, where the victim tried to get to a nearby home for help. >> reporter: a young man was yelling and banging on that door behind me right there.

he way saying he was shot. the people inside were too afraid to answer the door so they called police. what happened before that is still quite sketchy. here's what the scene looked like early this morning. oakland police heard gunfire on their shots and directed them to the 1800 block of 78th avenue. then neighbors called saying a man was banging on the door and asking for help. when police arrived they found the man in his late teens or possibly early 20s on the neighbor's porch. he was pronounced dead on arrival. the young victim had no i.d. so police are trying to figure out who he is and who shot him. police are investigating. they believe the victim is from east oakland because of tattoos on his body. right now there's no description of the effect. reporting live, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. an investigation is also underway into a deadly motorcycle crash in san francisco. it happened on the southbound lanes of highway 101 between octavia boulevard and van ness avenue. just after 1:00 this morning a

motorcyclist slammed into the center divide. highway patrol shut down the section of 101 for about 45 minutes. investigators say they believe the accident involved only the motorcycle and no other motorist. the victim died at the scene and is described as in his late 20s, early 30s. authorities are checking if alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash. a new search is planned for for sierra lamar. the 15-year-old dissed disappeared a month ago on her way it school. today some 90 lawful officers from around the bay area are scheduled to search the hills, san martin and gilroy. the search begins at 9 a.m. and will end at sunset. two hundred of these posters are on cars. riders will smart phones can also code a code on the posters to get more information. and louisiana night search

teams found the body of a missing sonoma county teenager. 15-year-old charlotte molinari was last seen on saturday leaving home on her bike. the sheriff's department says it appears she died from apparent suicide. alameda county super nadia lockyer says it's time to focus on her family. she's stepping down from office to care for her 8-year-old son and recover from a tumultuous year. she claims she was assaulted by an ex-boyfriend at a newark hotel in february. there are allegations of blackmail and embarrassing text messages and a sex tape. she says has been in rehab for alcohol abuse. she explained her reasons for stepping down in an exclusive interview with the bay area news group. >> i don't hike to say victim, but if somebody that -- didn't realize -- how difficult it would be to --

heal from what i went through the last year, after in treatment. >> her husband treasurer bill lockyer says he support ace wife's decision to step down, saying it's in the best interests of their family. the board of supervisors will vote on tuesday to officially recognize the resignation. the board has 60 days to name a replacement. the board president says there are many good candidates. and the supervisors do not choose someone before the deadline, governor brown has the option to pick the new supervisor. the ethics committee hearing to determine the future of suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi is scheduled to start on monday. yesterday a superior court judge ruled mirkarimi does not have to be paid during his suspension. mayor ed lee suspended the sheriff last month after mirkarimi pleaded guilty to false imprisonment of his wife. both men are expected to testify about a meeting at which lee says mirkarimi

declined to explain what happened. he's accused lee of providing incomplete information in a sworn affidavit. >> say his deposition is false or misleading? >> i believe that the mirkarimi deposition is in complete. >> the ethics commission hearing could take weeks or months. the panel will make a recommendation to the board of supervisors. the board will then have to vote on whether or not mirkarimi can keep his job juppe the cherylors who died in last week's race will be honored tonight in a flotilla in racoon strait off angel island. dozens of boaters set sail on san francisco bay last night, preparing for the summer racing season. they held a moment of silence for the five crewmembers killed or lost at sea when they boat slammed into the rocks exactly a week ago today. >> we're all still in the first phase of this tragedy and trying -- everybody trying to come to terms with it, and everybody is kind of have to

palo alto reporting mid to upper 50s as well. redwood city, sunnyvale. inland east bay, upper 50s for livermore. may not even need a jacket this morning. we're looking at a rapid warm- up once again. the warmest day of the week expected today. perhaps the warmest day of the season so far for most of us. a look at satellite, easy to see the ridge. looks cloud formation shows you that dome of ridge or high pressure over california. back behind it, we're got this system. this is going to dig south and as it does, it's going to bring back out southwesterly breeze, expected as early as tomorrow, then by wednesday maybe even a little bit of rain thursday looks to be the better time frame on that. take a look here we've got that fog off the coastline. by 11 or so it's pretty much well off the coastline. we're mostly sunny today but tomorrow morning the time staff now, sunday morning notice the southerly search. it's going to creep from this direction.

good morning to you! a live look there at the blue sky, sunshine, and the heat is on for the afternoon! los angeles police are looking for a suspected car thief who drove this vehicle over a cliff. police stopped the suspect one mile north of pacific coast highway and when the man's wife got out of car to talk to deputies, the driver suddenly steered the vehicle off the road and down the steep embankment. police say he got out of that

car and ran away. it will be still a few days before the florida man accused of killing trayvon martin is out on bail. suspect george zimmerman needs time to raise the $150,000 bond he was in shackles during his court appearance yesterday while he insists the shooting was in self-defense he took time to apologize to the parents of trayvon martin. >> i wanted to say i am sorry for the loss of your son. i did not know how old he was. i thought he was a little younger than i. and i didn't know if he was armed or not. >> once zimmerman makes bail, the judge ordered him to wear a electronic man tore and cannot carry a firearm or consume alcohol. relatives have received death threats. martin's parents rush out of court yesterday without commenting. a spokesman says they are devastated that zimmerman will possibly be released soon from jail.

three more secret service agents have now resigned in the wake of the colombian prostitution scandal. that makes a total of six agents now left that agency. one of former agents, david cheney, is also being criticized for posting a picture of himself on his facebook account, standing behind sarah palin. under the photo he posted a comment saying, i was really checking her out, if you know what i mean. >> this culture in the secret service is code of honor just doesn't allow that sort of thing. so i'm absolutely blown away this agent had this on his facebook. >> the military is also investigating the involvement of 11 of its service members in that scandal. republican presidential candidate mitt romney reaches out to latino voters on a campaign stop in arizona. romney appeared at a roundtable discussion with latino business leaders in tempe. supporters of the dream act demonstrated outside of the event saying they want romney to change his opposition to the legislation that would provide

a pathway to citizenship for college students who are not in the u.s. legally. inside the former president of the university of arizona also pressed romney on the issue. >> i think that it would be good if you could provide at least some signal for a grimmer of hope for some of these students who are obviously worried about this. >> thank you. appreciate it. thank you. >> up with of the big mistakes we make -- >> on monday romney will campaign in pennsylvania with marco rubio, who called for passage of a modified version of the dream act and he has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential running mate for romney. republican presidential candidate ron paul continues to draw large crowds at his infrequent campaign appearances. the 76-year-old is popular with younger voters because of his positions on legalizing marijuana and staying out of foreign conflicts.

ron paul insists he is staying in the race. this morning in his weekly address, president obama is calling on congress to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling. >> on america higher education cannot be a luxury. it's an economic comparative that every family must be able to afford. that's why next week i'll be visiting colleges across the country talking to students and students but how to make higher education more affordable and what is at stake now if congress doesn't do something about it. >> president obama wants congress to keep student loan rates at their currentless, 3.4%, before they double by law on july 1. some republicans oppose the rates because of high cost of the taxpayers. former military post near monterey is now a national monument. that's after president obama signed a declaration yesterday. since the post close in 1994 it's become a popular area for people to hike and bike. but there are pockets that post

that remain off limits due to old military ordnance still on- site. >> dedication of these areas as a national monument will also help us speed up the process of cleaning up both land and making it accessible to the public. >> 1.5 million soldiers went through training at fort order and it is visited by a hundred though people every year. there's hope a new monument will bring even more visitors, giving the area an economic boost. time is 7:18 it appears the california high-speed rail project can't count on any additional funding in the near future. this week the senate joined the house in dismissing a funding requestly the obama administration for one billion dollars for high-speed rail projects around the one trim the chairman of the state's high-speed rail authority says the project hadn't planned on any additional federal funds right now. but in the future, california is counting on federal governments to provide the majority of the projects

funding. this weekend muni passengers should expected longer travel times because of conjunction on the line. work began last night at 8 p.m. and will last until 5 a.m. monday. during this time it will be shut down. some city streets will be impacted as well, including the avenue between steiner and church streets. construction will continue throughout the summer and fall. american airlines is vowing to fight off a takeover attempt from u.s. airways. u.s. airways announced yesterday three unions representing pilots groundworkers and flight attendants with american airlines are now in support of a takeover. american is currently in bankruptcy and u.s. airways argues a takeover will help save nearly half the jobs american want to cut. >> it's going to save 6,000 jobs here in texas and in oklahoma, as compared to management's proposal to eradicate 13,000 jobs. and continued to outsource more flying. >> u.s. airways likesly needs

to convince two more creditors to go along with the merger. the creditors include banks and boeing. after claiming steadily for four months, gas prices are finally starting to fall. nationwide pump prices have dropped 6 cents over the last two weeks, to an average of 3.88. that's after price surge to nearly $5 earlier this month. experts say gas prices could fall another 5 cents or more next week. of course, here in the bay area prices are higher than the national average. but they're moving downward also. in san francisco, the average is now $4.28 a gallon compared to 4.31 a week ago. it's now 4.18 in san jose, compared to 4.20 a week ago. and in oakland, 4.16 now compared to 4.19. your time is 7:20. preparations for the summer olympics are underway. what is happening now to get that olympic torch ready for its run. and the events about to get underway this morning here in

i want to show you the forecast because we got changes coming as early as tomorrow. we begin a cooling trend. it will be modest, monday, tuesday and wednesday more noticeable. look at wednesday night. look at that. scattered showers in the forecast there for wednesday night, as well as thursday. so we'll be tracking that for you. meanwhile we have summer-like weather in store for today. good to moderate air quality, numbers start to drop off tomorrow. more so monday, tuesday, wednesday. back into the low 70s for the afternoon. back to you. with less than 100 days until the summer olympics, torch run practices are already underway. yesterday officials conducted a test run on the olympic torch relay. it was a full dress rehearsal to test timing, security issues and traffic patterns. about 122 volunteers were running with the torch, which was not lit. the flame will arrive from grosse on may 18th, to kick off an 8,000 mile relay across britain. >> we're testing a typical day in the torch relay, so we're

right now oakland police are searching for a gunman in

an overnight shooting, and we're learning more about what the victim did right after he was shot to try to get help. and welcome back to mornings on 2, everyone. that shooting happened around 2:30 this morning p lorraine blanco is live with the investigation now underway. lorraine. >> reporter: oakland police department shot spotter picked up a dozen shots on 78th avenue. officers on scene tell us this man ran to this home to this porch and tried to get help. the people inside didn't want to answer their door in the middle of the night to a stranger so they called police. when police arrived the young man about 18 to 20 years old was dead. the victim had no i.d. on him. so police this morning are still trying to figure out who he is and who shot him. they believe he's from east oakland because of tattoos, right now there's no description of suspect and investigators are still piecing together what led to this

shooting. one officer is on scene told me it could be drug-related. reporting live, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning the california highway patrol is trying to determine why one man led them ton a high-speed chase on bay area freeways. it began around midnight when police saw a car swerving on it 78680 in walnut creek. they say the driver just took off and that chase went from 680 to highway 24, before ending in oakland. that's when the driver took the west grand exit and crashed into a fire hydrant and a parked car. he was taken into custody and police are trying to figure out if that car was stolen. although an investigation continues this morning, authorities say they believe they have shot and killed a man suspected of carjacking several vehicles and who shot at west sacramento police officers the the suspect barricaded himself in a sacramento apartment building last night. he busted a hole in the side of his apartment, exchanged gunfire with law enforcement and set foyer to his place.

that's when authorities say they decided to shoot him, giving firefighters safe access into the building. >> he just looked kind of crazed like gone. >> some flickering and the fire started to ignite. i saw him lighting the fire. >> you watched him light a fire? >> i could see through the apartment. >> the sacramento county coroner is trying to identify the suspect. authorities launched a massive manhunt for him, closing the yolo causeway on 80 yesterday after an attempted robbery. the gunman fled by hot wiring a tractor, carjacking three vehicles, and shooting at officers. the manhunt lasted nearly 14 hours. the first victim in the oakland vocational school shooting was the last one laid to rest. friends and relatives of 24- year-old cat lien ping gathered yesterday in hayward. she was the office secretary in the first person allegedly killed this month. her funeral was delayed until

her husband received a tourist visa from the philippines hem attended the service with their four-year-old son kaiser. >> with all the evidence -- and mom in heaven so mom is happy. >> he's had a hard time accepting his wife died in such a tragic manner. seven people were killed in the shooting. the school plans to resume classes on monday. california governor jerry brown and hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered to honor a sheriff's deputy who died in the line of duty. 53-year-old deputy robert paris with a 16-year veteran with the stanislaus county sheriff's department. his brother and sister remembered him at his funeral in modesto yesterday as kind and compassionate. the deputy was shot to death last thursday along with another man as they served an eviction notice in modesto. the suspect then shot and killed himself. a group of oakland residents plan to take back

their streets today around fruitvale and international boulevard. last december a five-year-old boy was shot and killed near his father's taco truck on 55th and international boulevard. a volunteer group of off-duty security guards will patrol the boulevard starting at 5:30 tonight. they call themselves the bay area street safety patrol. they wear black berets, fatigue pants and carry handcuffs. san francisco's well-known restaurant may have served its last customers early this morning. but the 100-year-old chinatown restaurant may also get a second chance. according to the san francisco chronicle, the owner of the restaurant can present plans to bring the restaurant back up to code at a meeting before the city's public health department on tuesday. if the plans are approved and the renovations are made, sam woe could reopen. the owner i anew restaurant and bar in san francisco says the city's red tape is silencing his dream of providing live music for his customers.

he could open tupelo's just five months ago. he says he chose the site because of his home to live music for decades. last october the city's entertainment commission issued him a live music permit, but three days later the planning department revoked it. >> from the onset we were handcuffed with restrictions. >> we want -- if he does, i think he'll be able to play music. >> the telegraph hail 12ers neighborhood association says the previous business which provided live music did so without the proper permits, and earned a reputation for late night fights and violence. they acknowledge no trouble since they bought the business. a real estate agent says it's a growing problem in antioch. people allegedly squatting in vacant homes. neighbors say as many as three people have been living at this house since december. the property owner says they are not tenants, and have never paid rent. >> it's an epp epidemic.

i suggested an alarm to keep the squatars way. >> no one answered the door when a ktvu news crew knocked. but the accused squatters responded to an e-mail to the realtor demanding she provide them with the proper eviction process or leave them alone. they even filed a restraining order against her. police in south lake tahoe are trying to find out who threw a small bomb into the medical marijuana dispensaries. police say late thursday night, someone tossed a small explosive device in the patient to patient marijuana collective. bomb started a small fire but caused only minor damage. two employees who were inside at the time were not hurt. a manager at says the device contains acid which he believes was intended to kill marijuana plants growing in that building. medical marijuana activists calling on president obama to leave their industry alone. yesterday was april 20th, the day commonly known as one for marijuana users to embrace the

culture. and in san francisco a smoke-in was meld at golden gate park. and in oakland activists rallied outside oaksterdam university. one man says after being injured in the line of duty, enduring nine major surgeries and thousands of prescription pills, he turned to medical marijuana. >> starting using cannabis, and my pain is manageable. not gone, it's manageable and i'm not a walking zombie anymore. >> the crowd marched to president obama's campaign headquarters and gave a letter to the staff asking the president to stop the federal crackdown. at the university of colorado in boulder, fish fertilizer was the weapon of choice for officials hoping to stop the annual 420 pot rally. just before dawn it was vlade all over campus to deter people from gathering. people not students were banned from campus yesterday and all day long police patrolled the university, check the i.d. of everyone entering that area.

>> i think 4-20 is annoying and disruptive to classes, but the way the campus is treating it and the university is treating it has been more disruptive to my school schedule than this ever was. >> unable to occupy their usual spot, the pro marijuana crowd marched across campus. a handful of people were arrested. a possible electrocution under investigation in san mateo. pg&e says helium filled mylar balloons shorted on the power lines on south norfolk street last night, sending them falling on to a truck. truck driver tried to move the lines but they were still live and the man reportedly died at the hospital. pg&e is now reminding people never to touch downed power lines. distracted driving is being blamed for a pair of accidents on the san mateo bridge. around 6 a.m. yesterday morning, this costco big rig crashed in a stalled pickup on the westbound side. police say that crash triggered a second one on the eastbound side of the bridge. the driver of a minivan was looking at the big rig when he

drove right into a highway patrol car, we hit a firetruck. both cars were empty and no one was seriously hurt but police say the driver of the van should have been paying better attention. >> i believe that person was -- had minor injuries. had they not -- been paying attention to the road rather than the other side, this could have been avoided and wouldn't have that traffic. >> and traffic was backed up for miles while caltrans cleaned up diesel fuel. police say april is distracted driving awareness month and this should be a good lesson to everyone out there. for the past year we've been reporting that a new area code is coming to santa clara county. it is 669, and beginning today callers are being encouraged to start dialing a 1 before calling a 408 number. in october that will become mandatory to place a call. the new area code will be introduced in november. good morning to you! we are gearing up for the

they called 911. when first responders arrived, near 78th and arthur, they found a plan in his late teens, possibly early 20s suffering from gunshot wounds then tried cpr but he died on scene. the victim had no i.d. so police are trying to figure out this man is and who shot him. they believe he have from east oakland because of tattoos on his body. there's no description of the suspect and investigators are piecing together what led to the shooting. we spoke with neighbors who say it's a rather calm and quiet naked, and one officer said the shooting could be drug related. we'll stay on top of this and try to have an update on future newscasts. authorities are trying to identify the motorcyclist killed in a crash early this morning in san francisco. it happened on the southbound plains of highway 101 between octavia and van ness avenue. just after 1:00 this morning the motorcyclist slammed into the center divide. highway patrol shut down the

section of 101 for about 45 minute. investigators say they believe the accident involved only the motorcycle and no other motorist. the victim died at the scene and he is described as in his late 20s to early 30s. >> we had a motorcycle incident, for some unknown reason the motorcyclist collided with the center guardrail. a new search is planned for today for missing teenager sierra lamar. the morgan hill 15-year-old disappeared more than a month ago while on her way to school. today some 90 law enforcement officers from around the bay area are scheduled to search in the hills above morgan hill and gilroy. that search will begin at 9 a.m. and will end at sunset. and 200 of these posters are now on bart cars to spread awareness. the posters include her name, photo and description as well as law enforcement contact information. riders with smart phones will also be able to scan a qr code

from her alcohol and drug addictions while also spending more time with her family. she has been caught in a scandal involving an ex- boyfriend and alleges of blackmail, e-mail hacking and a sex tape. plans to rescue the postal service are running into some resistance. the u.s. senate could consider a majorover haul as soon as next week. new legislation would include permitting the postal service to ship beer and wine, and the bill would also push for new online businesses, eliminate saturday deliveries and cut staff on retiring packages. but the proposal stopgap measure with only a handful of new revenue streams. reports say the service is losing $36 million a day. the coroner's office in l.a. has ruled commentator andrew breitbart died of heart failure stemming from coronary disease. a negligible amount of alcohol was found in his system but no

fired at 78th avenue and arthur street. police say the victim ran to a ramdom house and knocked on the door for help. the people inside called for police, but the man was dead at the scene. we do not have information on a motive or suspects. an investigation is also under way into a deadly motorcycle crash in san francisco. it happened on the southbound lanes of highway 101 between octavia boulevard and van nest avenue. just after 1:00 this morning, a motorcyclist slammed into the center divide. highway patrol shut down that section of 101 for 45 minutes. investigators believe the accident involved only the motorcycle and no other motorist. the victim did die at the scene. he is described as in his late twenties to early thirties. authorities are checking to see if alcohol or excessive speed were factors in the crash. a new search happening right now for missing teenager sierra lamar. the morgan hill 15-year-old disappeared more than a month ago while on her way to school. today, some 90 law enforcement officers from around the bay area are scheduled to search in

the hills above morgan hill, san martin and gilroy. the search began just a few minutes ago and will end at sunset. last night, search teams found the body of a missing sonoma county teenager in annan dale state park. the 15-year-old was last seen on saturday leaving home on her biefnlgt the sheriff's department says it appears she died from an parent suicide. autopsy will be performed on monday. nadia lockyer says it is time to focus on her family. on her 41st birthday today, she is resigning from office to care for her 8-year-old son and to recover from a tumultuous year. she claims she was assaulted by an ex-boyfriend at a new york hotel in february. lockyer says she's also been in rehab for alcohol abuse. now, she explained her reasons for stepping down in an exclusive interview with the bay area news group. >> i don't like to say the word "victim," but if somebody that

nearly 100,000 people everywhere. there is hope the designation of a national monument will bring in more visitors and an economic boost. california's high speed rail can't count on future funding in the near future at least. congress denied the obama administration request. the project hadn't planned on any additional federal funds right now, according to the chairman. but in the future, california is counting on the federal government to provide the majority of the project's funding. american airlines is vowing to fight off a takeover attempt from u.s. airways. u.s. airways announced yesterday three unions representing pilots, groundworkers and flight attendants with american airlines are now in support of the takeover. american is currently in bankruptcy and u.s. airways argues a takeover will help save nearly half of the jobs american wants to cut. >> it's going to save 6000 jobs

pacific coast highway in malibu. when the man's wife got out of the car to talk to deputies, the driver steered the vehicle off the road and down that steep enbankment. police say he got out of the car and started to run. they believe he may be possibly mentally unstable. this morning, the california highway patrol is trying to determine why one man led them on a high speed chase on bay area freeways. it began around midnight, when police say a car swerving on 680 in walnut creek. the driver took off when police tried to pull him over. the chase finally ended in oakland, when the driver took the west rant exit and crashed into a fire hydrant and parked car. he was taken into custody and police are investigating to see if the car was indeed stolen. well, it's hard to believe it's april, because it feels more like august. certainly hot out there and maybe the hottest day of the week. but if you don't like it, rosemary, it's all going to change soon? >> yes, and fairly soon. meanwhile, let's hope you have a pool party to get to today, because it's going to be a hot one, especially for the valley

norfolk street, sending those lines onto a pickup truck. that truck driver tried to move the lines, but they were still live and the man reportedly died at the hospital. pg&e is now reminding everyone never to touch downed power lines. although an investigation continues this morning, authorities say they believe they have shot and killed the man suspected of car jacking several vehicles, and the man they also say shot at west sacramento police officers. that suspect barricaded himself inside a sacramento apartment building last night, busted a hole in the side of his apartment, exchanged gunfire with law enforcement, and then set fire to his own place. that's when authorities say they decided to shoot him, giving firefighters safe access into the building. >> he just looked kind of crazed, like gone. >> seen some flickering and the fire started to ignite. i seen him lighting the fire. and. >> you watched him light a fire? >> yeah, i could see through the apartment. >> the sacramento county coroner is now trying to identify the suspect. authorities launched a massive manhunt for him, closing the

yolo causeway on interstate 80 yesterday afternoon after an attempted robbery. the gunman fled by hot wiring a tractor, car jacking three vehicles and shooting at officers. that manhunt lasted nearly 14 hours. distracted driving is being blamed for a pair of accidents on the san mateo bridge. around 6:00 a.m. yesterday morning, this costco big rig crashed into a stalled pickup on the westbound side. that crash triggered a second one on the eastbound side of the bridge. they say a driver of a mini van was looking at the big rig when he drove right into a chp patrol car, which then hit a fire truck. both cars were empty and no one was seriously hurt, but police say the driver of the van should have been paying better attention. >> i believe that person was -- had minor injuries. had they been paying attention to the road, rather than to what's going on on the other side, this could have been avoided and that wouldn't have backed up all the traffic on the eastbound lanes. >> and traffic was backed up for miles, while cal trans cleaned

up diesel fuel spilled by the big rig. police say april is distracted driving awareness month and this should be a good lesson to everyone out there on the roads. the ethics committee hearing to determine the future of suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi is scheduled to begin on monday. a court determined he does not have to be paid during suspension. mayor ed lee suspended the sheriff last month. both men are expected to testify about a meeting at which mayor lee says mirkarimi declined to explain what happened. mirkarimi is accusing the mayor of providing incomplete information in a sworn affidavit. >> would you say his deposition is false or misleading, then? >> i believe that the mayor's deposition is incomplete. >> the ethics commission hearing could take weeks or even months. the panel is going to eventually make a recommendation to the board of supervisors. then the board will vote on whether or not mirkarimi can keep his job. the first victim in the

[ foreign language ] >> ping's husband says he's having a hard time accepting that his wife died in such a tragic manner. seven people were killed in that mass shooting. the school does plan on resuming classes on monday. a group of oakland residents say they plan to take back their streets today. the crime rates in the areas around fruit veil avenue and international boulevard are some of the highest in the city. last december, a 5-year-old boy was shot and killed near his father's taco truck on 55th and

international boulevard. a volunteer group of off-duty security guards will patrol the boulevard starting at 5:30 this evening. they call themselves the bay area street safety patrol. they wear black berets, fatigue pants, and carry handcuffs. california governor jerry brown and hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered to honor a sheriffs deputy who died in the line of duty. 53-year-old deputy robert paris was a 16-year veteran with the stance law county sheriff's department. his brother and sister remembered him at his funeral in modesto yesterday, as kind and compassionate. the deputy was shot to death last thursday, along with another man as they served an eviction notice in modesto. the suspect then shot and killed himself. police in south lake tahoe are trying to find out who threw a small bomb into a medical marijuana dispensary. police say late thursday night, someone tossed a device into the patient 2 patient collective, causing minor damage. two employees who were inside at the time weren't hurt.

shooting at students was sentenced to 189 years in prison. back in october, brendan o'rourke fired into a crowd of about 230 students during recess at an elementary school in carlsbad, near san diego. two girls who were hurt testified at his trial. o'rourke had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but last month, a jury convicted him of attempted murder and ruled he was sane. it will still be a few days before the florida man accused of killing trayvon martin is out on bail. suspect george zimmerman needs time to raise the $150,000 bond. he was in shackles during his court appearance yesterday and while he insists the shooting was in self defense, he took time to apologize to the parents of trayvon martin. >> i wanted to say i am sorry for the loss of your son. i did not know how old he was. i thought he was a little bit younger than i am, and i did not know if he was armed or not. >> once zimmerman makes bail, the judge ordered him to wear an

electronic monitor, check in with police every three days and he cannot carry a firearm or consume alcohol or take illegal drugs. his relatives also say they have received death threats. meanwhile, martin's parents rushed out of court yesterday without commenting. a spokesman for the family says they are devastated that zimmerman will possibly be released from jail. plans to rescue the postal service are running into resistance. the u.s. senate could consider a major overhaul as soon as next week. new legislation would include permitting the postal service to ship beer and wine. the bill would also push for new online businesses, eliminate saturday deliveries, and cut staff by offering retirement packages. but the letter carrier's union calls the proposal a stop gap measure, with only a handful of new revenue streams. reports show the postal service is losing $36 million a day. weeks of protests in canada turned violent when student protesters clashed with police
