those are the left hand lanes there near the ashby exit. it was a different story about an hour ago after a car ended up trapped under a big rig. three of the four lanes had to be shut down. the woman driving was taken to a hospital complaining of shoulder and chest pain. the big rig driver wasn't hurt. >> a tense hostage stand off at a east bay bank ended peacefully after an alleged robber surrendered. it started at the wells far go. a teller set off the alarm. officers saw the hostage drama through the windows. >> they looked inskied found several people on the floor. one male with a knife holding onto a female and had the knife to her. >> reporter: they rushed in and a crisis negotiator talked to the suspect. he finally gave up when the hostage told him she was pregnant. the suspect then told police he had planted a bomb in the bank. two bomb sniffing dogs from the

sheriff's department swept the area and didn't find anything. >> san francisco police have arrested a 22-year-old man after a break-in at i a home. they say a man told them someone broke into his house just before 8:30 yesterday morning and started beating him up with a crowbar. police later spotted a man matching the description of the attacker nearby. >> they attempted to stop the suspect. he fled on foot and officers caught up to him where they tried to take him into custody. he resistedda arrest and ended up having two officers to the hospital. >> reporter: he was booked for attempted murder, possession of a burglary tool and resisting arrest. >> three people were injured during what police and witnesses call a gun battle in oakland late last night. police say two of the victims were found near 98th and holly where the gun violence first started.

a third was located a short time later. witnesses say they heard dozens of shots. >> sound like -- at least 30 shots. two different guns, long rapid fire, close to a gun fight. >> reporter: when police responded they reportedly found a man sitting in his car with gun shot wounds. they say two of the victims suffered nonlife threatening wounds but the third appears to be more serious. oakland police are reportedly changing their tactics and coming up later at 5:15 we are asking the oakland mayor about reports officers are now being pulled back from some of the most violent spots in the city. >> there were dozens of arrests today as protesters blocked streets. hundreds of protesters showed up and tried to disrupt the wells fargo share holders meeting. we have live team coverage starting with david stevenson on the ground there in san

francisco. >> reporter: take a look. you can see the police barricades that were left behind. by the time the protest wrapped up 24 people had been arrested many of them for trespassing, the street had been blocked the share holders meeting had been disrupted. hundreds of people marched through san francisco's financial district this morning, aiming to occupy the share holders meeting. >> robo signing and people are losing their homes and it's ruining the economy. while they are making out with the largest first quarter profit that they just announced. >> reporter: protesters plan to use stock certificates to gain access to the meeting speak out on economic injustices. >> we were told that they were -- letting their share holders in to the meeting and then what they did was send us to an empty building. >> reporter: many never made it

delegate count in to the primary. romney leading with 683, santorum with 267 before he suspended his campaign. gingrich has cornered 141 and republican paul has 84. it takes 1, 144 to officially get the nomination. >> gingrich is hoping for an upset in delaware. he toured the billy graham library in north carolina today but he has been campaigning very hard in delaware and said if he looses the primary there he is going to reassess his campaign. a spokesman later said that he will not suspend his campaign immediately even if he does loose in today's primary voting in delaware. the ballot results are just starting to trickle in. we should should have a good indication of those results in the next 30 minutes. >> the united states agriculture department announced today that a dairy

cow in central california tested positive for mad cow disease. an an exive said it was found when the cow was picked for random testing. this should only the 4th time its been found in the united states. the first since 2006. officials though insist the public was never at risk. >> this particular animal didn't enter the food supply at any time. there is no concern about that. >> reporter: the u.s.d.a. said an investigation sundayway but the animal didn't get the disease by eating infected feed. officials say there were only 29 cases of mad cow disease in cattle worldwide last year. that is a dramatic drop from the peak in 192 of more than it 37,000. >> the san bruno city council will meet tonight to discuss what to do about sections of that ruptured pipeline from the deadly 2010 explosion. the pipe has been out of

service since september 2010 when the blast happened. a lot of residents pushing for it to be removed to help the wounds from the deadly accident. the council is considering three plans, leave the pipe in the ground but filling it with concrete, removing part and filling rest with concrete or just tearing it all out. >> late this afternoon apple posted its second quarter financials and they blew the top off expectations, net income -- net uncome for the company -- let me try to get this. net income for the company shot up to $11.6 billion with strong sales of i-phones and i-pads fueling aml's profits. they sold more than 35 millionaire phones in the quarter up 88% from a year ago. sales more than doubled to 11.8

million and all of this driving stock up. we tracked prices over the last quarter and in january apple was trading at $411 a share and then continued to climb up. it dipped on march 7th and that's when the new i-pad was announced. shares then continue going up, hitting a high in april before falling below the 600-dollar mark closing today at $560. >> it wasn't the only united states company whose fortunes rose on wall street. stocks were pushed higher by guard corporate earnings. at&t, verizon reported better than expected profits and ge and dupont also showed gains. the dow closed up 74 points topping 13,000, however the nasdaq fell slightly closing down nine points. >> we just spoke with the

this is with 4% of the precincts reporting. romney as you see there has the early lead of 66% -- this is now -- this is still connecticut. i can give you rhode island numbers with 9% of the vote in, romney had 62%, ron paul 25% and gingrich with 7%. romney will probably be the no, ma'am nominee but we will update you. oakland firefighters mopping up a house fire when they heard gun shots just a block away. the fire broke out about 9:30 at 14th and campbell. nobody was hurt but as they were wrapping up, people came running from a block away to tell them someone had just been shot. >> heard it, maybe five or six

couldn't go into detail with because it could compromise public safety. it focus on 5% of the city but according to city leaders it's where 90% of the shootings happened. they said it was only meant for 90 days. they say now they are reviewing the plan to see how it's working if anything needs to be changed. >> the area that we have been focusing on has now been cleared. behind that and around it has been showing increase in some of the violent crimes we haven't seen before. >> reporter: now today the mayor announced a plan to help teens and young adults in the hundred block. we will have that and what the chief said about the spikes in crimes in oakland hills. that all at 6:00. live in oakland. >> two years after the devastating oil spill in the gulf, federal officials filed a first criminal charges connected with that disaster. a bp engineer was charged with

obstruction of justice today. that's him there. the 50-year-old, allegedly deleted hundreds of key text messages even after prosecutors ordered him to keep them. investigators say they showed that the oil spill was much larger than bp first reported that efforts by bp to control the spill was failing. if convicted is he facing a possible 20 year prison term. the disaster started in april of 2010 when the rig exploded off the coast of louisiana. that explosion killed 11 workers and triggered the largest spill in united states history. more than 200 million gallons of crude oil plowed out of that well before it was finally capped. one study done by a business group from new orleans estimated the long term economic impact on the gulf area including fisher are yous and tourists could exceed $100 billion. >> time for us to get our first check of the weather and let's check in with bill martin

. >> complete bay area news coverage continues. this is ktvu channel 2news at five. >> the disappearance of sierra lamar prompts school officials to make changes. the district will now tell parents earlier and more often. robert honda is live on the change in the policy as well as the latest on the search efforts. >> reporter: a volunteer center here plans another certify tomorrow morning but when sierra first went missing her parents didn't find out she missed school until that night. the district said that situation should not happen again. there are almost 9,000 students attending public schools at morgan hill and now parents will find in the morn figure one of their children didn't show up. sierra disappeared march 16th but her pants didn't find out she was gone until the evening

. republican primaries in five different states no. real surprise but romney has just been projected at the winner in delaware. romney is also the projected winner in connecticut and rhode island. we are still waiting for results in new york and pennsylvania but romney will probably win those two states as well. romney now declared the winner of three of five primary states voting tonight in the presidential primary. a group of children led a rally today in support of a latino youth center. . >> the demonstrators gathered to protest plans to close the latino youth center. an alcohol and drug prevention program provides homework help. >> we want to prevent them from dropping out of school.

morning -- might find a half inch up there around jenner or around the stinson beach area. tomorrow morning, doesn't look, like, a bad drive. there are sprinkles in the area. afternoon, see, just real widespread. i suspect we will very see a lot of drizzle. looks like your morning drive may be wet, wednesday afternoon, evening drive, best bet for moisture on the rod but not a lot coming from the sky. now we switch so a longer range model and look at thursday as that gets ready to come in. thursday morning, a few sprinkles and then thursday around 8:00 a.m. and then right there thursday at ten. it is not a big deal. it'll create rain up in the mountains, snow, higher elevations, thursday the strongest of all the systems but still very week. forecast temperatures look like these.
