it is sunday, april 29th. i am mike mibach. >> i am claudine wong. >> rosemary orozco has a quick look at the sunday forecast. >> good morning to you. many of you say will be just as nice as yesterday. some of us slightly warmer and cooler by the coast. we have subtle changes taking place. it includes the on shore breeze and fog along the coastline. meanwhile for the action on the inland spots. not going to feel this. we will look at the numbers expected for your area coming up. the demolition project is on schedule. vehicles should be driving on the replacement road. allie rasmus is with us. and crews are halfway finished now. allie? >> reporter: mike, this is what is left of doyle drive. the columns and the 30 feet sections of the elevated deck. that is all that is left.

in front of it at ground level is a new temporary road. we watched the asphalt trucks and pavers working on the new road. smoothing out part of it at 5:30 this morning. that's what they will get to drive on tomorrow morning at 5:00 a.m. this is an animation of what it looks like coming in from san francisco. they will pass on to the temporary road we showed you. crews are halfway through the whole process. they are on schedule and 20 hours left to finish the work, there is still a lot left to do. >> we still have to stripe. and put the rails. there is still tons and tons of work to do. we want to thank the public for staying off the road. especially this area. we appreciate that. >> you can see from news chopper two, the giant toppled columns from the demolition yesterday. drivers will see a lot of this debro. most of it monday morning.

the temporary road will run alongside it. it will take demolition crews another month or so to completely clear away what is left of doyle drive. the toppled over columns and all the chunks of concrete and rebar. that will take more time to clear away. they will be able to drive through the areaen o the temporary road. according to caltrans, everything is on schedule. many motorists are heeding the advice and traffic is down 50 to 60% there. people who normally take doyle drive to the golden gate bridge are taking alternative routes. some most tourists told christian that they were stuck for half an hour or longer. >> were you stuck? >> no. we went out. >> are you visiting there. live in san francisco. >> we live here. >> you hadn't heard about the construction. >> no.

family members. san jose police have been identifying jonathan best and his brother brian stabbed a 51-year-old man outside in the morning on cleveland avenue in the rose garden neighborhood. s.w.a.t. teams if surrounded the house. nine hour standoff followed. and the best brothers got away. they are investigating to see if alcohol was involved in a head on crashful it happened at 1:30 on al made darya folsom avenue. and a -- allah media avenue. and -- alamehe da avenue. and the injuries were senate life threatening. the driver of the truck may have been under the influence. >> the car chase ended with another one in oakland. sheriff's deputy ran a license plate on the car and found out it was stolen. they tried to pull the driver over, he kept going.

there was a chase until the driver lost control. hit a fire hydrant and a tree. two suspects were taken into custody. no one was seriously hurt. >> we have new information about a deadly california yacht race. we first told you about this on the 10:00 news. it hit a much larger boat. the debris from the yacht was seen floating near the islands. they were killed in the crash several miles off the coast near the border. the coast guard and mexican navy are searching for one missing crew member. >> they celebrate the lives of the five people lost in the fatal yacht crash. >> coming up. these special public memorials are planned for the one victim. >> five other people seriously hurt after high wind brought it down outside after st. louis bar. 17 people were hospitalized and up to 100 people were treated at the scene yesterday

night. he lost consciousness before an ambulance arrived and pronounced dead at the hospital. was in a fight east of the studio. anyone with information is asked to call san francisco police. >> this land owned by berkeley is planning more events today. they have what is called occupy the farm. series of workshops from farming to yoga. they have been using a piece of land known as the gill tract for more than a week now. it is used by uc for agricultural research. city of oakland said it is suing two more occupy protestors. chloe and paul woods are accused of spray painting the convention center. the city wants $400 from the protestors to cover the cost of cleaning up the property. they sued another protestor for alleged sandallism during a protest last december. this kicks off this

oakland police are investigating a fatal shooting. that happened on the lawn street housing complex. investigators were on the scene early in the morning. police aren't saying much about what happened. the shooting was the result of a home invasion robbery gone wrong. a man in oakland is dead after getting into a fight outside a burger king. that started at 8:20 last night on 13th anbroadway. the man appeared to be drunk and started harassing an elderly woman. the two got into a fight outside. the man who appeared to be drunk fell and hit his head. the second man got away and hasn't been identified. there is a fight al shooting. a 48-year-old man told police he accidentally shot his 38 year old brother. they were looking at his brother's new gun. that was around 7:30 last night on cambridge drive.

good morning and welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm claudine wong. >> good morning, everyone. i'm mike mibach. rosemary is tracking changes this morning. hi, rosemary. >> good morning. they are subtle changes as mike mentioned, cooler on the coastline. anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees of cooling expected. we have fog and partly to mostly cloudy skies for the coast. rest of us will be just as warm as we felt yesterday, even warmer in some cases. we'll look at the numbers in your neighborhood, what you can expect for the week ahead, even have a few showers in the forecast. that's coming up. well, continuing coverage of the doyle drive closure now. demolition is mostly done. us from we'll show you the scene from news chopper 2. what was doyle drive is now just rubble. at this time tomorrow the replacement roadway should be open for the monday morning commute and as ali rasmus tells us, all signs are pointing to that happening on time, right,

alley? >> reporter: that's right, claudine. behind us is kristi field. up until five minutes ago, there was a long row of 20 asphault trucks parked along mason street. you see there is a lot of congestion here, a lot of regular cars and vehicles passing through. cal trans is still asking people to try to avoid being in this area because of all the construction that's going on. they're using this road to get to this construction site. this is all that's left of the old doyle drive. you can see about 10:30-foot sections of concrete, toppled over. this was the upper deck of doyle drive and in front of them is a temporary road that drivers are going to use for the first time tomorrow. and all morning we've seen pavers going across it. the road was especially paved overnight and an hour and a half ago we were one of the first vehicles to drive on it. cal trans gave us a behind the scenes tour of the road that will open to the public for the first time 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. this is what it will look like. if you're governor romneying from the golden gate bridge and 101 south into san francisco

drivers will see a lot of debris from the old doyle drive still there. drivers will have to pass alongside it. cal trans representatives say they hope people aren't distracted by all that debris on the right hand side. it's going to be a new experience for drivers all together tomorrow. they will also be coming through a new tunnel for the first time bringing them onto that temporary road that replaced doyle drive. >> there is a curve to come out of the tunnel when you transition onto the temporary bypass. we will again be warning people, we'll have cautionary signage, because it is new. the whole roadway is new. we want people to be aware, keep it slow. >> reporter: now while all of the elevated portion of doyle drive is now gone, a lot of people watched it happen and cheered as it happened. the debris is going to be around for a while. it's going to take demolition crews another two months at least to completely remove and recycle all of the concrete columns columns and steel to that used to hold doyle drive together. it's not supposed to restrict access to this temporary road. according to cal trans

everything is on schedule and that temporary road will be available for drivers to use for the first time 5 a.m. tomorrow. live in san francisco, alli rasmus, k.t.v.u. >> and a live look at a couple brimmings in the bay area. let's look at the golden gate. very quiet in both directions of 101 at this hour. 9:03 on the clock. north bay giants fans, the game is at wop. you can always take the ferry even though it's sold out, there are other affair res that can get you there and you just have to walk down to the ballpark. the bay bridge, all is pretty quiet on this sunday morning in both directions of 80. many motorists have been heeding the advice and avoiding the area of doyle drive. within the last 20 minutes, golden gate transit told us there was about a 50% less traffic on that bridge yesterday, so it seems drivers are using alternate routes, such as lincoln boulevard through the presidio. motorists even told christian captain they were stuck in traffic there for just about a half hour or longer. >> did you know about the

at least once. paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. investigators are still trying to establish a motive. at this point it's not clear if it's all gang related. the victim's identity hasn't been released because police are still notifying family members. in overnight news a man who led police on a chase from the peninsula on the east bay to the south bay has been arrested after a crash. the c.h.p. says they tried to pull over the driver of this van this morning in redwood city for talking on a cell phone and weaving. the van drove to hayward then to san jose. they put out spike strips on 88 outs at first street. it moved to the shoulder after it hit the strips and crashed into a tree. an ambulance took him to the hospital where he will be checked for d.u.i. oakland police are investigating to see if alcohol was a factor in a head on crash overnight. it happened just after 1:30 this morning on alameda avenue near the home depot. police say a truck driver veered out of his lane and crashed into a car going the opposite direction. both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.

police suspect the driver of the truck may have been under the influence. >> and just about 30 minutes after that crash, a car chase ended with another crash in oakland. this one happened on do little and age enberger. sherves's deputies hand a -- sheriff's deputies ran the license plate and found it it was stolen. if driver lost control during a chase and hit a fire hydrant and then a tree. two suspects were taken into custody. no one was seriously hurt. we have new information about a deadly southern california yacht race that we first told you about on the tech:00 news. on the 10:00 news. it's believed that yacht hit a much larger boat during the race. debris from the yacht was seen floating near the coronado islands. three crew members were killed in that crash. and the coast guard and the mexican navy are still searching for one missing crew member. fillie and friends continue to celebrate the lives of five people lost in the bay area's fatal yacht race crash. coming up at 9:15, the special public memorial that is planned

developed. the marine layer has reestablished itself down right about 1000 feet. so spilling into the bay this morning. we're looking at mostly sunny skies for today and our numbers really not impacted. in fact we are slightly warmer than where we started 24 hours ago. 56 in oakland right now, 59 in napa. 59 in the south bay, 59 for san jose. livermore, low 60s. fairfield as well as concord. so a quick rebound is what we're seeing this morning, and our numbers will fall once again well above average. anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees, slightly warmer for inland spots, and cooler at the coast. the satellite radar, have to show you this. talk about what's going on. the ridge of high pressure still in charge of our weather pattern, but it's beginning to weaken just a little bit. we have systems that are riding over the north of it. it is going to increase the on shore breeze, it's bringing back the low clouds. already seeing that this morning and we eventually will be rolling our temperatures back. we're going to remain a little bit above average as we head into your work week, but then the first week of may will be mild, even a chance for some

saturday. their nationalities have not been reported. 40 coalition members have died in afghanistan this month. the death toll so far this year stands at 131. nine years after the u.s. invasion of iraq there is a new sign things are returning to normal in that country. iraqi security forces are now dismantling the concrete blast barriers that surround baghdad. there are hundreds in all. the walls went up immediately after the u.s. occupation started in 2003. the iraqi government says it hopes the removal of the walls will help return a sense of normalcy to the city. security still remains an issue, though. a bomb attack near baghdad killed at least 30 people just 10 days ago. in egypt this weekend, the saudi arain jan elm embassy in the country is closed. they say security threats from protesters is making it too dangerous to keep the embassy open. the protest center over an egyptian man arrested by the

saudis for drug possession. they are demanding the man be let go. a one-year-old boy is dead after being attacked by the family dog on his birthday. it happened at the boy's grandmother's house in henderson, nevada. family members say their six- year-old dog named onion showed no signs of aggression that day but later that night when the baby crawled over to pet onion, the dog snapped and attacked the boy. the family has had that mass i have the rodesian mix dog since it was a puppy and they say onion has always been peaceful. >> he has been around him since he was born. and -- they played with each other all the time, and they kissed each other all the time. they laid -- they slept together. >> animal control officers are going to quarantine onion and will determine if he has ray bees and then he is going to be euthanized. for the washington state man suspected of killing his daughter and wife the hunt is over this morning. as casey siegel reports, authorities believe they found peter keller dead in his bunker after a 22-hour stand off.

>> reporter: a week-long investigation leads police in washington state to this fortified bunker on a steep hillside about 30 miles southeast of seattle. >> there is movement, there is someone inside the bunker. we do believe it's peter keller. >> reporter: cops tried punching their way in on friday using tear gas, but with no luck. then on saturday, after a 22- hour standoff parkes bomb squad making their move. blowing the top off this mountain bunker. inside, police believe they find their man, 41-year-old peter keller. dead from an apparent self- inflicted gun shot wound to the head. keller was a wanted man all week long. the prime suspect in the murder of his wife of 21 years and their 19-year-old daughter. >> found in their respective bedrooms with gun shot wounds to the head. >> reporter: police believe keller set fire to his home in north bend last sunday. then fled. authorities found gas cans scattered throughout the house. >> there's lots of black smoke rising from the vents on top of

the house. >> reporter: police warned the outdoors man was heavily armed and on the run. they immediately set their sights on hiking trails nearby, putting up flyers with keller's picture, looking for leads. police say keller spent eight years making the multi-level bunker, spending the last moments of his life inside. >> tactical teams notified us that they have seen within a dead body, again, with a great deal of blood around it. >> reporter: the king county sheriff's office tells us the body discovered looks like keller, but the medical examiner will have to make a positive i.d., which we understand would not happen until sometime sunday, or possibly monday. in los angeles, casey siegel, fox news. family and friends mourned a victim of the sailboat tragedy off the islands. they gathered in berkeley for a memorial service for elmer morrisey. he was vibed assed a adventurous. he worked at the lawrence berkeley national laboratory

that created a son nix nick boom a week ago. for those who consider themselves serious collectors the hunt is on. these are photos of the meteorite as it hit last sunday. robert woolard is a pharmacist from little rock, arkansas. he said he's searched for meteorite fragments around the world. >> you always go where other meteorites have been found. they pepper down over a large area, usually two to three miles wide, seven to eight miles long. pretty typical. >> and it's not just the thrill of the find. one woman who found a 17-gram fragment said she received a note from nasa saying that fragment could be worth 10 to $20,000. a photo exhibit at the san bruno bart station is recognizing a dark chapter in american history. the photos show japanese americans on their way to internment camps back in 19 42. thanks to the photos of these same people today. some 120,000 people were sent to internment camps during world war ii, and many camp survivors came to yesterday's

he was taken to the hospital where he later died. police are investigating if the stabbing was gang related. several people have been detained for questioning but no arrests have been made. antioc police are investigating a fatal shooting that may have been an accident. a 41-year-old man told police he accidentally shot his 36- year-old brother. he says they were looking at his brother's new gun when suddenly it went off. it happened around 6:30 yesterday evening on cambridge drive. police are interviewing the man and investigating the incident. also, a man in oakland is dead after getting into a fight outside of a burger king. the fight started around 8:20 last night at the burger king on 13th and broadway. police say the man who appeared to be drunk started harassing an elderly woman. another man got involved, and the two got into a fight outside. police say the man who appeared to be drunk fell and hit his head during that fight. the second man got away, and has not been identified. the man accused of a killing spree at an oakland vocational school is scheduled

to return to court tomorrow afternoon. 43-year-old wong co is expected to enter a plea. he is being held at the jail in dublin without jail and is facing seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. police say he took a 45 caliber handgun and then randomly shot at people at the beginning of the month. investigators say he was angry that the school would not refund his tuition. the family of sierra lamar is hoping an increase in reward money is going to help them find the missing teenager. that reward more than doubled from $10,000 to $25,000 yesterday. the money came from fund- raisers and donations, including $10,000 from an anonymous donor. police believe lamar was kidnapped on her way to school on march 16th near her morgan hill home. more than 150 volunteers helped pass out flyers and search new areas yesterday. >> the important thing is to us, is to get her back home, if there's someone out there that has her, you know, we just want her back home.

>> today, circus caballero will be donating 10% of its proceeds to the find sierra fund. tomorrow we will get an update on san jose's formally conjoined two-year-old -- formerly conjoined two-year-old twins, angelina and angelica were separated last november in a 10-hour service at the children's hospital in palo alto. the twins have undergone physical and occupational therapy, and their lead surgeon says they've had a very smooth recovery so far. angelina and angelica will celebrate their third birthday in august. a police officer in southern california received a special delivery at a mcdonald's. the officer delivered his baby in the parking lot of the restaurant after his wife went into labor. he says they were driving and then pulled into the first parking lot they saw which happened to be mcdonald's. he called 911 and dispatchers coached him right through the delivery.

rail project. that project is now estimated at 68 billion dollars. the project had ballooned to $100 billion before governor brown ordered the plan revamped. san mateo assembly man jerry hill will introduce a bill requiring that experts hired to study the project must disclose business relationships and income sources. a los angeles times article found one expert was looking at data prepared by a company he had previously worked for. pg&e says it wants to know by tuesday if customers want to opt out of the smart meter program. the utility says this is not a firm deadline, because customers can opt out at any time. but officials say they'd like to get a clearer picture of how many opt-out customers are out there. so far, about 20,000 residential customers have opted out of the smart meter program right here in northern california. the program came under fire after critics cited possible privacy and health concerns. the white house run for republican newt gingrich officially comes to an thend

night. investigators are still trying to establish a suspect and motive for the shooting. the sudden storm brought down a party tent in st. louis. killing one man and sending 17 others to the hospital. up to 100 people had to be treated for injuries. the bar owner who hosts that party said he was told the man who died was struck by lightning. authorities aren't confirming the cause of death. >> and boating season on the san francisco day kicks off this afternoon, all beginning with the 95th annual boat parade which is at noon. this year's theme is american spirit. the parade will feature more than 120 historic work boats, fire boats, tow boats and more. continuing coverage now of the doyle drive closure. cal trans shut down the roadway just over 37 hours ago, and as alli rasmus tells us, everything remains on schedule to get the new replacement road open in time for the monday morning commute. alli. >> reporter: the work continues this morning. behind us is the construction site, and this is all that is

left of doyle drive. the demolition for the most part is done. chunks and columns of roadway. in front of that is the new paved roadway that drivers get to drive on tomorrow morning. cal trans gave us a tour of this new freshly paved road. let's show you the video of it. this is what it's going to look like as you're driving from golden gait bridge and 101 south into san francisco. one thing we noticed and drivers definitely will notice, a lot of debris from the old doyle drive is still there, right next to the road. drivers will have to pass alongside all of this and cal trans representatives hope that drivers aren't distracted by it. it's going to be a new experience altogether for drivers tomorrow. they will also be coming through a new tunnel for the first time, that takes them out into that roadway. it will bring people onto this temporary road that replaced doyle drive. >> we're asking people to be very aware, be cautious, and be patient. because getting used to this new roadway and having this whole new kind of landscape for

a while, it's going to be distracting. we want people to be patient because we do expect delays in the first couple of weeks. >> and the elevated portion of doyle drive is now gone. there are a lot of people watching it happen being torn apart, and cheering as it happened but the debris will be around a while. it will take a couple months to remove and recycle all the concrete, columns and steel posts that used to hold doyle drive together. out here live, while the work continues cal trans is asking people to try to avoid this area. this is chrissy field, mason street. they are using this road to gain access to that construction site we showed you a minute ago. so while all that work continues, they'd like to avoid congestion and traffic congestion in this area. but everything is going according to schedule, and that new temporary road should be open for drivers at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. live in san francisco, ally rasmus, k.t.v.u. in overnight news, oakland police are investigating a

fatal shooting. it happened on 65th and east lawn street overnight in the lockwood gardens housing complex. investigators were on the scene early this morning. police aren't saying much about what happened, but the victim's nephew says the shooting was the result of a home invasion robbery gone wrong. new this morning, seven people have been killed in a bus crash on the way to tokyo disneyland. that bus was full of vacationers and crashed into a roadside wall on the highway this morning. the driver and the surviving 38 passengers on border with all injured. 13 of them seriously. all of them are believed to be japanese nationals. police are investigating the cause of that accident republicans are criticizing president obama's campaign ad which shows former president bill clinton praising him for ordering the mission that killed osama bin laden. >> he took the harder and the more honorable path. and the one that produced, in my opinion, the best result. >> the ad also implies that romney is weak, and would not

california lottery officials say a ticket sold at the chevron gas station on hart avenue matched five numbers but not the mega number in friday night's drawing. here again are the winning numbers, 2, 5, 45, 46, and 47. the mega number there is 37. because no one hit friday's jackpot, tuesday's mega millions jackpot will be worth 102 million. a new york woman is helping to raise money for the fight against cancer by challenging one of the world's most accomplished athletes. mary eggers took on lance armstrong in a swim off yesterday. she challenged armstrong to the race by sending him a message on twitter and to her surprise the seven-time tour de france winner accepted. the swim off raised money and awareness for the organization teens living with cancer. thousands of runners are waking up with some sore legs after this weekend's country music marathon. it's one of the largest events of the year in nashville, tennessee. yesterday more than 30,000 people participated in the 13th annual event. among the sea of runners was singer and song writer cheryl crow.
