neath one of the units in san jose. turning to our other top stories, there are planned protests on this mayday and whose whose is right outside city hall but we are first starting with alex savage and tell us about the protest that really turned ugly in the mission district. >> reporter: it sure did. between 50 and 100 people took part in the mission district last night. one of the places they targeted was the police station. you can see the front window has been smashed. they dressed in all black after 10:00, a number of cars were trashed. we saw one being 0 towed away. the tires had been slashed as

well. a dozen or so businesses and there was an eye tallian restaurant which came under seas. some of these vandals were carrying crowbars. i see all a big signs and they are shouting, occupied will never stop and we want to kill the cop. it was scary. >> officers in riot helmets guarded the mission statement and police say there was one person arrested in connection with all that van limb. a group of protesters broke away from that rally and that's where they damaged all those

allie rasmus is there on what they are planning and why their original plan on the golden gate bridge changed. allie? >> well you are out in the plaza area and there is a group of 20 or so people. the way is to take them with mayday picket lines around the bay area. occupied movement has coordinated and worked together on some of these protests and some of the visible picket lines and the nurses one day strike with sutter health but they say many of the workers across the bay area and different unions taking part in all of this, a lot are involved intense contract negotiations and they say having a rally

like this keeps them optimistic. >> i think having events like this has a way of adding a layer of optimism. >> reporter: now initially occupied supporters had planned a rally to shut down the golden gate bridge today but those plans have changed. there will not be a planned rally at the golden gate bridge and unions representing the labor billion bridge, they came out and told occupied they didn't want that to happen but wanted supporters to go to larkspur at the ticket terminals and also in san francisco. and along with that, they wanted buses to pick people up at 12th street downtown and some of the buses will take people over to bart stations. live in sap fran, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 morning news.

packed ferry capsized. army divers continued rescue and recovery operations through the night. at least 100 people died after the boat broke into pieces in heavy winds and rain. an accident killed three sailors in a southern california yacht race. it was taking off at the start of the race last friday. they believe that yacht collided with another ship. two men on the yacht died of blunt forced injuries and a third man drowned and another man is still out there and they are looking for any large ships in the area at the time of the accident. in the meantime, alexis bush she is one of four people resumed missing near the

from that rally and started damaging businesses and cars and just one arrest has been made in connection with last night's violence. if you are just joining us, service canceled because of a mayday worker's strike and workers are out on the picket lines and they have been there for about an hour, right tara? >> that's right, these ferry workers have been here since the sun came up and they say they have been treated unfairly and they want it to stop. officials have shut down ferry service and they will not leave the dock. they are trying to avoid a walkout. >> reporter: after 45

bargaining sessions with the transit district they are still hung up on how to pay for healthcare. >> we have made contexts at the table and they told us that we have met their financial needs but that is not enough. they want a certain form of healthcare payments that burdens families the most and we just done agree with that. >> we went ahead and did a preemptive action to go ahead and cancel service and the reason we did that was so all of our customers would not show up this morning with no service anyway because of a picket line. they are keeping an eye on things to see if they need to add extra buses and they wanted to avoid inconveniencing baseball fans. it is scheduled to be back up 2:15 and you still can take the bus or go by car.

tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. union leaders and occupied protesters will be in san francisco and other bay area cities. the mayday events will continue well into the evening. now occupied organizers say today's mayday rallies will be unlike anything we have seen before. they are planning a number of small events rather than one big one. police are also warning commuters early today. the employees' union will stage another rally at city hall today. the hundreds of members of -- hundreds of members turned out last night for a noisy protest at city hall. they say they have made enough sacrifices over the years and now they want businesses to

. here is a quick look at our top stories, we are learning a child is critically injured. the fire victims were all from the same family. it was a three-alarm fire which started at 2:50 this morning. we already heard an asian woman in her 30s died in that fire. the city's mission district was cleaning up after vandals trashed their neighborhood. many were dressed in black targeted at least a dozen businesses and several cars. they even vandalized the police station and golden gate bridge ferry service has been suspended. our cameras are live out there. bridge and bus operations were

not affected by this. it will start up at 1:55 p.m. right now people are boarding buses at san francisco city hall and allie rasmus is there with more on where those buses are headed, allie? >> reporter: well a busload of people just left and pulled out of san francisco city hall and there were about 30 people on it and there is another bus off in the distance and these buses are taking people to larkspur and other areas so they can join others. there has been a change of plans. they initially planned to shut down the golden gate bridge but there is not going to be a rally at the golden gate bridge and it is not supposed to shut down and plans have changed after they said they didn't want the bridge to be shut down

but wanted the focus to be on contract negotiations an ongoing negotiations not a traffic jam. there is about 40 people here at san francisco city hall and they are here to take them to the ferry terminal near san francisco. >> workers have been negotiating for over a year over 45 contract sections and they have offered on the table and given back over $2 million and yet that is not good enough for the golden gate bridge board. >> reporter: and golden gate bridge ferry service is shut down for the morning as we have been mentioning but the plan is to take people who support those workers and there are some people waiting for that second bus you can see in the distance to fill up and there are union supporter member

going to join the picket lines. live in san francisco, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 morning news. well there was a mayday scare at six new york city banks yesterday. envelopes containing white powder was sent to the banks including notes that ended with quote, happy mayday. they were evacuated and the powder turned out to be none testify particular. a fire insured seven people. after this fire started just before 6:00 last night. they say the building did not have fire sprinklers. the cause is still under investigation. walnut creek is expected to

over san pablo bay, 50s and 60s and in fact they will be out of there for a while. clouded up on thursday and your weekend is looking better and a little warmer. this morning the auto makers reports u.s. sales jumped to 141,000 cars and trucks. monthly sales have increased from a year earlier and the biggest increase came from the 200 mid-sized sedan. ford and general motors reported their gaps. and they are currently ahead and he has been with that company and it has become known for the ever changing merchandise and it is hoping he can help turn old navy around.

. dow jones industrial average is down 20 points. and he will get his bright yellow car back and the starve several food network shows talked with us about the return of his stolen car as he was opening up the newest restaurant in san jose. it was stolen from a car dealership and investigators found it in a richmond storage unit last saturday as they were investigating a shooting. >> the police department in mill valley and the marin sheriff's department came through big. they did a great job and i am glad to see there was finally an end to it. >> police are trying to figure

out how there was a car still in that storage unit. a young sea lion pup named alcatraz was rescued in late march and he was malnourished and now he is healthy enough to be returned to the observe then. another two pups will also be released as well and that will be at 11:00 this morning. they will discover the sex of four falcon chicks and the chicks are over three weeks old and it is time to examine and band them. it is not hard to band them but the mother may pose problems. the mother and father are expected to fly back and forth screaming at him while he is in the nest. hey, sal, what are you seeing out there? >> well, we have a lot of traffic and a lot of slow
