involved. news chopper 2 on the way to police activity in san francisco near the corner of eighth and howard, find out why one man is now fighting for his life. mornings on 2 starts now. well good morning to you. welcome to mornings on 2. i'm dave clark. >> good morning i'm tori campbell. happening now, there are protests planned all across the bay area on this may day 2012. we have live coverage. alex sadvidge is in the mission district where a rally turned ugly. but we start with tara moriarty. >> reporter: and ferry officials are about to make a

statement right now. ferry workers are upset because they say the transidistrict is not being fair. they say they've met the district half way and they won't budge in contract negotiations. so the salsalito ferries will not leave the dock until 5:15 this afternoon. that's because the district decided to cancel all ferry service in order to avoid a walk out. after 45 bargaining sessions with the golden gate district they're still hung up with how to pay for health care. >> negotiations haven't been contentious per se, we just haven't met in the middle yet. >> looks like it's pretty contentious right now. obviously the membership of the coalition and the ferry workers are pretty upset about the situation. and they want to have a contract. it's been over a year and that's just taken too long. now there is added security here this morning at the ferry terminal. we've seen several chp officers they're making sure this protest stays on the sidewalks in front of the terminal and not on the terminal itself.

no ferries again running until 2:15 this afternoon. now we're told that the transit company is keeping an eye on its bus service if they need to add more buses today they will. if you need to get into san francisco this morning you can still go across the bridge by car or by bus. and basically the golden gate transit district says that they are -- it's pretty much a wash here as far as the financial situation goes. even by shuts down all of the ferry service they're not losing any money because they're making it up in added bus fare and tolls. tara moriarty. >> we'll check back with an update with you tara. but first, that ferry strike is not the only strike going on this morning. nurses say sutter health is looking at reductions that will put patients at risk. even though picket lines come

down tomorrow morning, nurses will be locked out until monday next week. this strike effects 4, 4,500 employees at five sutter locations. antioch, vallejo, castro valley, two at berkeley. business owners in san francisco's mission district are cleaning up after vandals trashed their neighborhood. businesses, cars even the police station were targeted. ktvu's alex sadvige is out there right now. he'll be back in a couple of minute, in fact, he just came back. what are people telling you happened out there? >> reporter: yeah witnesses are telling us this is a large group of vandals between 50 maybe and 100 people dressed in all black. some of them carrying bats and

crow bats much of their anger focused here at the mission police station. they smashed some of the front windows here. beyond this damage the vandals trashed a number of expensive cars throughout the neighborhood. early this morning we saw this mustang being towed away with its tires slashed and an anarchist a symbol painted on the side of it. a dozen or more business had paint up and down the street. video here at farina italian restaurant, it was full of customers eating at the time when the vandals closed in. some people ran to the back of the restaurant. protesters hurled patio chairs at their front window and says he's bracing for more problems today. >> we're going to be more on alert. take precautions, if we see something coming down the street this is something we have to do. but police have alerted what

fourplex. we're now learning a child is one of the two critically injured victims. and the fire victims were all from the same family. the three alarm fire killed one family member. she's described as an asian woman in her 30s. three others were taken to the hospital. two of them have life threatening injuries. one year after the death of osama bin laden, we're getting new clues to his state of mind just before he was killed. coming up at 7:15, what newly released documents say osama bin laden wanted to do with al- qaida and the new target the terrorist group was planning to attack. time now 7:07. we're following a long man hunt and the lock down of a school. a naked burglar has been caught. collin cain according to officials was first seen looking into cars on miller

avenue. police rushed to the scene, cain rushed toward a school. that school was placed on lock down. he was subdued with a taser then arrested. some people who live in san francisco's glen park neighborhood may be starting a petition to fight new traffic citations. the chronicle report says several drivers who park on chenery street have been getting tickets for failing to curb their wheels. the city code does say the drivers have to curb their wheels on any perceptible grade which is 3% or more. it is 7:08. we want to check in with sal on more police activity going on in san francisco right now. >> we're going to go to news chopper 2. we have police activity of a wide area on eighth street is closed here near fulsome for a stabbing investigation. news chopper 2 i was just asking him to give me a little bit of a show before we went on

air. here we are on live tv and looking at a pretty wide area on market that is closed. you will see delays near howard, on eighth. it's a good area to avoid. this is because a man was found in critical condition with stab wounds to the neck in this area. you can see it looks kind of like a ghost town down there, but at this time it would not be a ghost town obviously. they have this area shut down, surprising how much they have shut down over here. we do have word that the man who was found on the sidewalk leading from a stab wound to the neck is now in the hospital in critical condition. word that the patient is now in surgery. 7:09, let's move along to traffic pictures. bay bridge backed up to a 15 to 20 minute delay. no major problems. contra costa county not doing so well. 2:42 we had a crash involving a motorcycle. that traffic is very slow. highway4 is slow in antioch,

7:29 about 45 minutes ago, bus loads of may day protesters left san francisco city hall. ktvu channel 2 reporter allie ration -- rasmuss is there. >> reporter: there is no ferry service because ferry workers are on strike. if you come down and try to catch one of the boats this is what you will find. there's about 200 people. these are union members, ferry worker union members. other union supporters and occupy supporters who are walking around marching around with their signs. you can see they've got the musical instruments, sort of festive environment they have right now. these are several rallies going on. not just involving the ferry

workers but sutter health nurses have walked off the job today. union workers are getting support from the occupy movement. one of the ferry workers there explained why her organization is on strike. >> we believe that everybody deserves affordable health care for both themselves and their families and what the golden gate bridge is doing is try to burden people who have families with increasing health care costs and that is not fair and we're going to fight against it. >> reporter: a couple of weeks ago they had planned to have a rally at the golden gate bridge toll plaza in support of the ferry workers. but because of some last minute changes they decided they didn't want the focus to be on rally there an a possible shut down of the golden gate bridge.

but they asked for supporters to come out and join them on the picket line for this may day strike. and this may day rally and event. later on this afternoon however, golden gate ferry service is expected to resume but for now this morning it is shut down because most of the people who work with that union are in picket lines. >> 7:31, tonight's ferry strike is just one event tied to may day. union leaders and occupy protesters are teaming up for rallies across the bay area. many are in oakland. rallies and marchs are planned at several locations in oakland today. the may day events begin early this morning and will continue well into the evening. occupy organizers say today's may day rallies and protests will be unlike anything we've seen today. they're planning a number of small events instead of one big one. police are also preparing for today's demonstrations.

they are warning commuters to expect delays most of the day. also happening right now in cuba, hundreds of thousands of people are marching through the streets of havana on this may day. this is new video. now they are celebrating fidel castro's historic role in the cuban revolution more than 60 years ago. may day is actually a day of celebration in most communists countries. you can always get the latest information from today's protests around the world and herein the bay area online ktvu.com. click on the may day tab on the front page. time now 7:33, we've been following a fatal fire in san jose since 4:30 this morning. look at your pictures, this started in a fourplex in the southeast part of the city. pam cook now here with new information from that scene, pat. >> reporter: yeah we have a photographer on the scene and he is out there talking with some of the people living in the building and near by. the building that caught fire as well, one witness was able

to take incredible video of this fire on his cell phone. take a look. the fire started at about 2:50 this morning. fire investigators tell us here at ktvu that one person was killed in that fire. three other members of the family were taken to the hospital. two in critical condition, and she does confirm that one of those critically injured is a child. a woman that lives in that apartment building describes what she saw. >> first we smelled the smoke coming from the downstairs garage. we got out, called 911. we got out and before you know it the fire engines had arrived and the flames were billowing out from the garage below us. >> reporter: this is this morning shortly before the fire. it shows two cars burned completely destroyed in the garage area of one of those units. so it looks like the fire may have started there in the

garage. now the fire department spokeswoman talking with our photographer at the scene did not confirm that only that the cause is being investigated. but again, one person dead, other members of the family critically injured this morning. and that -- this morning in that fire in san jose. pam cook, ktvu. some beef that was sold in antioch is being recalled after an incident involving an ink pen and a meat grinder. the recall is for meat sold in raley's. a meat worker accidentally dropped his ink pen into the store's grinder. it happened sunday afternoon. no illnesses have been reported. if you have happened to have purchased ground beef at the store you can take it back to raley's and get a refund. the future of walnut creek's night life could change dramatically. an ordnance would place strict

regulations on all businesses serving alcohol. it's a response to several alcohol fueled fights in downtown walnut creek. several bar owners are opposing the ordnance, they're threatening to file a lawsuit if it is passed. time is 7:35. today the san jose city council are releasing properties they will put up for sale. 34 san jose properties will be available according to the successor agency. they include an old fire house, parking lot, theater buildings and vacant lots. the first round of properties will be available on june 1. caltrans is working on what will eventually be the first double car pool lanes in the bay area. highway101 between palo alto and mountain view will get two

new lanes in each direction. the work is scheduled to wrap up by the end of summer 2013. >> all right, time now 7:36. this is turning into a very busy day for sal as we try to get you where you need to get. >> there is a lot of traffic out there. i want to let you know that traffic is going to be busy all over the place. let's go outside and take a look at the commute. 237 the traffic is moving along relatively well until you get to 880. then you're going to see a lot of slow traffic. i want to mention at the toll plaza of the bay bridge it's still a normal commute. 15 to 20 minutes before you make it on to the bridge. no problems getting on to that span. on the golden gate bridge you saw the police activity we showed you last time. however the traffic a little bit slow. people are not being able to use the golden gate ferry and that traffic is now getting into the car. and we do have an oil slick in san jose on the ramp from southbound 87 to southbound 280. san jose fire on the scene

it's time to examine and band them. the chicks are not hard to band but the parents might pose a challenge. the parents are expected to fly back and forth screaming at him. time now 7:55. congress still working out the details for funding a highway and transit bill. democrats and republicans agree. however republicans want to include federal approval of the keystone xl pipeline as part of that deal. the white house is threatening to veto the bill if that keystone part remains part of the legislation. trust fund money will run out at the end of june. better not run out of patience this morning.

sal says there's a lot of traffic out there. >> if you're headed to the golden gate bridge and wondering what all the police activity is out there. you see a lot of officers there from chp and other agencies near the golden gate bridge near the san francisco side here. also on the marin side to keep people from unlawfully doing anything on that span. there were rumors that there was going to be a protest. now we've learned since then that the protest will be called off. however, a lot of police presence near the golden gate bridge. a lot of police presence because of an earlier crash and because service has been cancelled -- because ferry service has been cancelled more people may be using the bridge. no problems getting on to the span. there hasn't been any accidents on the span. contra costa county is a mess. 242 backed up to highway 4. 680 is backed up to walnut creek.

alex sadvige is covering a protest turned violent. but we begin with tara moriarty at the ferry strike. and there was an announcement. >> reporter: that is right, they announced there will be another work stoppage on may 10. and next time they plan to have a bigger strike. next time they will also target buses. workers are upset because they say the golden gate transit district is not being fair when it comes to health care coverage. they decided to picket and in return, district officials decided to cancel all ferry service in order to avoid a walk out. 60 members say after 45 bargaining sessions the district is not bubbling.

>> when it comes to our health care, we are not going to give up. >> our next meeting is may #. we are on a wait and see mode. we're sticking with what we have on the table. it's hard to tell at this point when the outcome will be. >> reporter: ferries shuttle 3,000 north bay commuters each weekday morning will not be in service until 3:00 this afternoon. there are several chp officers patrolling the area to make sure traffic runs smoothly. the strike is essentially not over until an agreement can be reached. tara moyiarti. nurses at nine sutter health locations are staging a one day strike on this may day. these are live pictures, news chopper 2 is flying over alta bay memorial hospital. you can see the picket line right there. nurses walked off the job just about an hour ago. they are also striking at

medical centers in antioch, vallejo, castro valley, two in berkeley, san leandro and buehrleing game. protesters say they are protesting cuts to sick leave. the striking nurses will be locked out until sunday at 7:00 a.m. sutter health says it has hired skilled temporary replacement workers for a five day contract. it is 8:02, this morning store owners in san francisco's mission district are having to clean up after vandals trashed their neighborhoods. they targeted businesses, cars even the police station during a protest last night. alex sadvige is joining us with the damage. >> reporter: yes, witnesses telling us this was a large group of vandals, they were dressed in all black. some of the members carrying bats and crow bars. this is one of the places they targeted. the mission police station where you can see they smashed some of the front windows and

tossed paint on to the building. officers in riot gear stood guard outside of the station late into the night last night helping to deter further violence. this was a large group between 50 and 100 people who broke away from a near by occupy rally in dolores park. they began shattering store windows. last night we talked to a valet attendant who told us he witnessed this. he said they even threw eggs at him. >> it's the 99% that has to come and clean this up in the morning. hey, it's sad. >> reporter: this morning we saw a white mustang being towed away. there was also an aston martin

police found a man stabbed. so far police tell us they have no information to give us about the suspect. in a news conference just about an hour ago the fbi said they just arrested five men in a plot to bomb a bridge outside of cleveland, ohio. the fbi says the five men are self-described anarchist. they are not tied to international terrorism. now according to the fbi there was never any danger to the public because the devices these men planned to use were fakes. they were controlled by an undercover fbi agent. one year after the deaths of osama bin laden we're getting new clues about his state of mind at the time he was killed. coming up for you at 8:15, knewly released documents show what osama bin laden wanted to change about al-qaida and the other concerns he had about his terrorist organization. 8:05, the city of davis is looking for some volunteers willing to take on a pretty tough job.

budget cuts are forcing the college town to transfer three full time meter maids to other jobs in the city. now there's just one remaining traffic control officer. so the city says it will train volunteers on everything from when tickets should be ticketed and how to deal with angry drivers who receive one of those citations. muni will go before the board to gain a new boarding policy. muni says it will improve on time performance. the board of supervisors must vote to amend the code before back door boarding is allowed. muni also says it plans to hire 10 new fair inspectors to help enforcement proof of payment. there's a reason sal is focused on the golden gate bridge area, right.

>> just a lot of police presence on that span and near it. we're going to show you pictures taken by news chopper 2 of the police near the bridge. more people using it after the ferry is down. but you will see a lot of police presence around that area today. let's take a look at the bay bridge, that traffic is going to be busy coming into the bay area here. no major problems on to the span. the south bay is very slow. we've had a couple of incidents in san jose, 280, 101 is the slowest if you have to pick the slowest commute it would have to be 101 all the way to sunny vale. again not taking a backseat to anyone. contra costa county, highway 4

is ridiculous. antioch, bay point pittsburg. today is not one of those days when you're going to say, boy, that's a nice commute. that's not going to happen today. mostly sunny, still low clouds around. patchy low clouds. san jose mostly sunny by now. low cloud deck tends to favor the peninsula and south bay more than today. yesterday there were a lot of 80s inland. fog wasn't high enough to clear the coastal hills but it is today. instead of the 80s or upper 70s now more low 70s to mid-70s. some locations will drop a good 10 to 12 degrees from yesterday. 87 down in gilroy yesterday. fog and low clouds mostly sunny day at the coast but it'll be a fresh day, breezy out of the west northwest. had gusts at 40 miles per hour earlier, now it's 10, nine. some of that low cloud deck at the santa cruz coastline. but san jose a little southeast to five, mostly sunny.

50s now, had some low 40s in the north bay under mostly clear skies right at 50 degrees. yellow indicates 70s and that sounds good. 50s, 60s closer to the bay. yesterday was the warmest day. no doubt about it for inland temps will continue the cooling pattern. monday was the warmest, the cooling began. we began yesterday but it's for everybody today. pattern will drop temperatures down good five, 10 degrees. we level off for thursday then start to level out. a lot more upper 60s and lower 70s closer to the bay. 50s and 60s, 68 in santa cruz. they get sun and cloudy pattern. low clouds, sunny, but here

comes that system saturday. if there's any rain it'll be very light. clear it out on friday. and warmer as we go into the weekends. today is the last snow survey of the season. the survey will be taken at 11:00 this morning. the last report showed that water content in the snow pack was only 55% of normal. san francisco expecting one of the city's busiest summers in years. more tourists than usual are expected. thanks to big events like the 75th anniversary of the golden gate bridge. the u.s. open golf tournament and the america's cup yacht races. hotels are already filling up and so are reservations for sightseeing trips. seven to 8 million people visit san francisco, typically in the summertime. this one may beat those marks in the past. it is 8:10, today environmentalists will capture some mission blue butterflies

on san bruno mountains and release them in san francisco's twin peaks neighborhood. the mission blue is an endangered species that is native to san francisco. urban growth is shrinking the area that can support the butterflies. so the they are looking for additional places that new colonies can survive. bullying may be the reason a wayward dolphin in hayward beach won't swim out into the open ocean. rescuers tell the new york times the dolphin was attacked by other dolphins as it was guided out of a shallow channel. now experts have decided to see if the dolphin will return to the ocean on its own. it was seen feeding on fish. >> very different. yeah. a former oakland police chief is pointing fingers, who he's blaming for oakland's troubles and responding to the occupy movement. a new ruling in the ross mirkarimi case it involves his wife who are still far away from san francisco. you got to see this, the

already dead in in -- india after a ferry boat sank. this boat that was filled with 350 passengers broke into two pieces in heavy winds and rain in the northeast part of india. 8:14, new details are emerging this morning from the documents seized in osama bin laden's compound. the documents are being released on the first anniversary of osama bin laden's death. and allyson what else are we learning this morning? >> reporter: you know tori, we're also going to be able to see these documents ourselves. they're going to be posted online later this week from a combating terrorism sector in west point. we did learn more about what was in them from president obama's top advisor. osama bin laden wanted to change al-qaida's name.

he was concerned in experience in younger al-qaida's members. >> osama bin laden agreed that a large portions of muslims had lost their trust in al-qaida. >> reporter: cnn is also reporting this morning that more than 100 computer files embedded in a pornographic movie planned to seize a cruise ship and launch mumbai style bombings. osama bin laden was struggling to try to remake al-qaida and bring factions together when he was killed. according to reports in the words of former oakland police chief anthony batts. a rookie crew of city leaders led to a violent show down with occupy protesters on frank ogawa. bats was one of 16 people

interviewed for the project for the occupy movement. batts says he would have treated the occurrence with more affirmty. yesterday an independent monitor reported the reforms that were ordered by a federal court almost 10 years ago still have not been fully implemented. that monitor robert warshaw criticized the police's military type approach to last year's oakland protest. his relative ability to handle complaints that came after. but he did say that police chief howard jordan has been making improvements. it is 8:00 # -- 8:17. the search for sierra lamar has led to five arrests. they found five men in

violation of their registration. later this week, divers plan to continue searching water ways. the 16-year-old vanished in march on her way to school. involuntary manslaughter charges have been filed against a man who police say accidentally shot and killed his brother. police say michael enriquez went to his brother george's home saturday night to show him a new gun. the gun went off as they handled the weapon. and michael enriquez was killed. closing arguments will begin early this morning in the murder trial of edwin ramos. he's charged of killing bolonia and his two sons. prosecutors say it was a case of mistaken identity. they say ramos is a gang member, he opened fire on a car he thought contained rival gang members. ramos is contending, he was not

the gunman. well the wife of mirkarimi will stay in venezuela for seven more weeks. eliana lopez and mirkarimi's son was allowed to go to venezuela so she could take care of her ailing father. today a judge is scheduled to deny mayor ed lee's attempts to subpoena mirkarimi. the 18th hole is supposedly one of the toughest finishing holes ever. but the greens are nice and smooth. >> this year i genuinely think you will see more puts made in this year's u.s. open than in past u.s. opens here. just the nature of the grass.

time now 8:29. right now several may day protests and rallies are happening that are all over the bay area. ktvu's allie rasmus has been following one group all morning. she's back with us live. i know picket lines have shutdown service, what's happening allie. >> that's right there's no golden gate ferry. the ticket booth is closed and off to our left; you can see a group of people they are picketing. the group here is about 20 people strong. about an hour ago there was a much larger group of about 150 people marching around the

ferry building. they were playing music, they had instruments, they had loud speakers. they were passing fliers explaining why they are on strike today. this is one of the walk outs. members of the ferry coalition and other union members boarded buses from san francisco city hall. they took those buses to lucksburg to join ferry workers on the picket line. workers had been without a contract for a year. health care is one of the main sticking points between the negotiations between the union. >> we believe everyone deserves affordable health care for both themselves and their families. and what the golden gate is doing is burden people. that is not fair and we're going to fight against it. >> reporter: union organizers told us there was a last change

in plan. initially, they called for the shut down of the golden gate bridge. but the union workers did not want that. they did not want today and the demonstration to be about a traffic jam on the golden gate bridge. they wanted to focus on the tense contract negotiations that had been going on for a year. to supporters are being asked to come to one of the picket lines to join the ferry workers and support them that way. golden gate ferry service is scheduled to resume later this afternoon at 2:00. but for now, you can see everything is shutdown here behind us. we have seen a couple of people show up and find out why they can't take the ferry. the union members have explained to them that they're on strike and they won't be able to take the ferry this morning. we want to show you live pictures from lurksburg. we are right there. these are live pictures from the ground. ferry workers also picketing.

coming up at 8:45, we'll bring you a live report on the headaches that suspended cars for customers this morning. today's ferry strike is just one event tied to may day. union leaders of occupy protesters are teaming up for rallies all across the bay area. many of them are in oakland, rallies and marchs are planned at sáefl -- several locations in the city. now occupy organizers say today's may day rallies and protests won't be like anything we've seen before. they're planning several small events instead of one big one. now the police are also getting ready for today's demonstrations. they are warning commuters to expect delays in downtown oakland most of the day. also happening right now, i wanted to show you this. this is cuba. look at all the people here. hundreds of thousands of people marching through the streets of havana cuba on this may day.

they're celebrating fidel castro's historic role in the cuban revolution more than 50 years ago. may day is a day of celebration in most communist countries. you can always get the latest on today's protests around the bay area and around the world at ktvu.com. make sure you click on the may day tab right there on the front teenage. it is 8:33. we've been following developing news from san jose since 4:30 this morning. a huge deadly fire at a four unit apartment complex at coyote creek. ktvu's pam cook has been getting new information from the scene, she joins us now from the newsroom, good morning pam. >> good morning, just a horrible story for one family in san jose. we just got off the phone with a san jose fire captain who is on the scene of that fire this morning. she tells us here at ktvu news that the mother in her 50s died in that fire. the father is said to be in critical condition now in the

hospital. she also said a 6-year-old boy had to be rescued from the townhouse. firefighters had to conduct cpr. he is in critical condition now. firefighters were met by neighboring screaming that people had to be rescued from that townhouse. we spoke to a woman who also lived in that building. >> we got out. called 911. before you know it firefighters were here and the flames were billowing out of the garage. >> reporter: witness accounts like that and video from the back of the building point to the garage where you can see extensive damage. including two cars completely destroyed. that could be where the fire started.

now captain gutierrez say it is firefighters rescued people by helping them down a ladder. the cause of that fire still under investigation. reporting live in the newsroom, pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. a neighborhood burglary suspect is in the custody of millvalely police after leading officers on a lengthy man hunt that prompted the lock down of a school. police responded to the area and cain ran off toward old mill school. the school was put on lock down while police searched the neighborhood. he was subdued with a taser and arrested. today the san jose city council is expected to approve a list of properties for sale. the properties were once assets of the city's redevelopment agency. but governor jerry brown desolved the state's redevelopment agency to deal with the massive state budget crisis. 34 san jose properties will be

made available according to the successor agency. they include an old fire house, parking lot, theater buildings and vacant lots. the first round of properties will be available on june 1st. time is now 8:36. the walnut creek city council is expected to make a full-time decision that could change the night life in the city -- to make a decision that could change the night life in the city. several bar owners say they are against the ordnance, they threatened to sue if that ordnance is passed. some beef sold in antioch is being recalled after an incident involving an ink meat and meat grinder. apparently a meat department worker accidentally dropped an ink pen into the store's grinder sunday afternoon. there's no word yet of anyone

getting sick. if you happen to have purchased ground beef at that store sunday afternoon, you can take it back to raley's and get a full refund. caltrans is working on what will eventually be the first double car pool lanes in the bay area. highway101 between palo alto and mountain view will get an additional hov lane in each direction. that will result in six northbound lanes and six southbound lanes. >> that's something to look forward to. >> yeah, it is. sal, are we looking forward to the rest of this morning's commute? >> no. >> i didn't think so. >> there's a new crash northbound 280 in san francisco getting up to highway 101. the alameda maze is what they call it. getting up to 101, 101 itself is very slow as you drive out of the candle stick park area

that move could help it save up to $300 million a year and that could make the difference between making a profit and registering a loss. this morning business owners in san francisco's mission district are cleaning up, vandalled trashed their neighborhood. about 100 vandals many dressed in black targeted several businesses, cars they everyone vandalized the police station on valenzia street. we're also seeing a lot of police officers outside the golden gate bridge. they're trying to head off may day protests from labor groups or the occupy movement. now occupy oakland threatened to occupy the bridge on behalf of bridge workers who were right in the middle of a contract dispute. those plans reportedly have been called off. we will keep you posted. golden gate ferry service is cancelled this morning because of a worker strike.
